Hi everyone!
A little bit of a belated introduction here! My name is
John Murray and I joined Gateway as an Admin
Support Worker in February of this year, under the
TUS Programme. The TUS placement lasts for one
year. I myself have had mental health issues and it was
the perfect opportunity for me to not only help myself,
but learn new skills and help others at the same time.

whether Im doing office work or helping out during

drop-in.
One of my favourite parts of the job is welcoming new
members. I try to make them feel as welcome as the
members made me feel when I started. Walking
through Gateways door for the first time was quite
nerve wracking, but Im so glad that I did, and its this
feeling that I try to give new members.

Before Gateway, I had worked in retail for many years Cheers everyone! Heres to more fun times ahead!
and had no office experience whatsoever, so it was
quite daunting to start in a completely new role.
John M.
However I was made to feel very welcome from the
word go by the team and the members, and settled in
quite quickly. Ive never taken to a job and the people
so fast in my life!
Ive come to really enjoy working with Gateway, and
the positive effect it has had on me personally has been
amazing. I actually ENJOY coming to work these days,

Sen Cahill on being a O.A.P.

So Sen whats it like being an O.A.P.?
Well to be honest with you its just the same as being 63, 64 and 65, but I really think the
big 70 will be the watershed for me.I really enjoy coming to Gateway every Thursday
and it is the highlight of my week because I meet friends who have the time to talk to me
and I find this is a rare thing these days. If I can keep my mind healthy I will always be the
youngest O.A.P. in Gateway. Good on ya Sen, and may you go around the sun many more
times.

Imagine being able to pinpoint precisely the moment you developed a serious mental illness. David Adams
locates his trigger in 1986 and a radio report about the explosion of AIDS. From that moment on, his life
turned to obsession with contracting the deadly disease, involving all expected prevention rituals. His life no
longer his own, there followed decades filled with personal anguish. Holding himself personally responsible
for the immediate spread of AIDS all the time mentally incapacitated him. He was locked into repetitive
hygiene routines, extremely unhealthy trapped thoughts..
