Pickpocketing is a form of larceny that involves the stealing of money or other

valuables from the person of a victim without their noticing the theft at the
time. It requires considerable dexterity and a knack for misdirection . A thief
who works in this manner is known as a pickpocket. This issue of pick pocket
is not new, but recently has been on a dramatic increase, and we need to
tackle this priblem now before it gets worst.
Pickpockets and other thieves, especially those working in teams,
sometimes apply distraction , such as asking a question or bumping into the
victim. These distractions sometimes require sleight of hand, speed,
misdirection and other types of skills. Pickpocketing can be a dangerous
trade, since persons aware of the presence of pickpockets in an area may
conceal such items asspecially designed mousetraps, rat traps or empty
decoy wallets on their person. Since pickpockets usually have no way to
gauge the contents of a wallet, save by the style of dress of the victim, they
must take what they find.
There are uncountable techniques wich pickpocket use to steal
items from their prey, here are demonstrations of some of thier mode of
operation:
First, a person sits down. Then the pickpocket sits behind the person facing
the other way. The pickpocket slides his or her hand into the person's coat
pockets and steals its contents. They are very professional, leave fast and get
lost in the crowd outside. This tecnique is mostly efficient in a tight setting
where people are pressing against each other, so the target wont feel the
pressure of the pickpocket's touch
Another technique called the angry couple uses the trick in which two people
pretend to be fighting or arguing and attracts and distract onlookers while a
third person would convieintly work his hand to the purse and pocket of the
excited ordience without being noticed.
A popular techniques addopted by pickpocket is bumping into the target,
creating a distraction while immediately dipping his hand inside the pocket
and taking anithing within his reach.
Pickpocketa also take advantage of a good Samaritan. This is perhaps the
most ruthless tactic employed by pickpockets, because it preys upon the
good nature of the target. Again, this tactic works best in pairs or groups. One
person will pretend to be in danger, summoning the attention of the target,
while the other steals the money.
One of the most common and effective methods of theft is to use a beautiful
woman to distract the target while either she or her partner steals the
target's money. In one scenario, the woman may bend down in a revealing
outfit in front of the target while another pickpocket steals the wallet from his
back pocket. Alternatively, she might do the stealing herself, and distract the
target by grabbing him or kissing him, playing off her touches as affection
and then secretly grabbing the man's wallet.
What is our overwhelming concern qith the way pickpocket is
increasing, well for one reason, people carry a lot of money, camera, moblie
phones, id cards, passport, jewelries etc... and no one wants to lose any of
theses items which contains so much information. It is adviceable to follow
safety measures which will allow you to avoid the attention of pickpockets,
notice them when they want to operate and which will truncate their success
when they attact without you noticing.
This will involve knowing the places where pickpockets can likely strick, this
places are usually tight and busy places with many distractions, when you
get to this kind of place keep alart of any foul play from anybody. You will also

need to keep any item with you in the front pocket rather than the back. You
may also carry as little money as pissible and also keep them where you can
see it al all times. Also avoid walking down lonely places aspecially at night.
Finally, try not to be the focal point of pickpockets ie dress simple, don't bring
out money anyhow and don't flexa lot of your valuable items.
Government should also try to provide more free education and jobs to keep
the pickpockets busy and to prevent future occurences of this situation.
