RESOLUTION No. 15A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF DORAL, FLORIDA, CONDEMNING THE REMARKS
OF DONALD J. TRUMP REGARDING IMMIGRANTS; PROVIDING
FOR TRANSMITTAL; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE
WHEREAS, on June 16, 2015, Donald J. Trump, Chairman and President of The
Trump Organization and Owner of the Trump National Doral Resort, announced his
candidacy for the Presidency of the United States; and
WHEREAS, during his announcement, Donald J. Trump made several derogatory
and racist remarks about immigrants, referring to, not only immigrants from Mexico, but
immigrants from all over South and Latin America, as drug smugglers, criminals and
rapists, and blaming Mexico for many of the security issues currently being faced by the
United States; and
WHEREAS, Donald J. Trumps remarks, included, [w]hen Mexico sends its
people, theyre not sending their best . . . Theyre sending people that have lots of
problems, and theyre bringing those problems. Theyre bringing drugs; theyre bringing
crimes; theyre rapists; and some, I assume, are good people. . . Its coming from more
than Mexico. Its coming from all over South and Latin America, and its coming
probablyprobablyfrom the Middle East.
WHEREAS, Donald J. Trump has refused to apologize and/or clarify his
statements and, instead, has furthered them by reinforcing negative stereotypes
associated with South and Latin American immigrants, especially Mexican immigrants;
and

WHEREAS, as a result of his actions, many domestic and international companies


in a variety of industries have decided to sever business ties with Donald J. Trump and
his various organizations, including, but not limited to, Univision, NBCUniversal, Camping
World, and Macys; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County have taken public action to
denounce Donald J. Trumps comments as derogatory and inflammatory; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council recognize, appreciate, and honor the
contributions that immigrants from all over the world have made to the founding, growth,
and development of the entire United States; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council further recognize, appreciate, and honor
the contributions that immigrants have made in the growth and the development of MiamiDade County and the City of Doral, especially Latin American and South American
immigrants, many of whom fled political persecution in the hopes of a better life in the
United States; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council desire to condemn Donald J. Trumps
comments as racist, derogatory, inflammatory, and having no place in the greater
American political discussion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DORAL, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1.

Recitals. The above recitals are confirmed, adopted, and incorporated

herein and made a part hereof by this reference.


Section 2.

Condemnation of Comments. Donald J. Trumps racist and

derogatory comments are hereby condemned.

Section 3.

Transmittal. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of

this Resolution to the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners.


Section 4.

Effective Date.

This

Resolution

shall

become

effective

immediately upon its adoption.
