Brief
Sancta Maria College website has not been updated in over 5 years
You have been asked to develop an area for the new website for Sancta Maria College that is
up-to-date and reflects the special character of the school.

The aim of the site is to provide users with information about Sancta Maria College in
a way which will appeal to a wide general adult audience.
Target Audience
Students, staff and parents of Sancta Maria College
Specifications:

Website

must have at least 4 linked pages


code must be compliant with existing web standards
must reflect the special Character of the school
must reflect the beliefs and values of the target audience
must be suitable for dial-up as well as broadband users
must display correctly in different browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome

easy to navigate (users should be able to access the information they want with
the minimum number of mouse clicks)
attractive and appealing to the target users

Process:
Research
Research existing school websites. (6 minimum including some special
character) Use the PMI form to guide this phase. Write a paragraph about what you
have learnt, what you will use in your website etc.
Trialling
Trial a range of programmes. Photoshop vs paint, notepad vs notepad++.
Justify why you will use the ones you have chosen.
Trial the equipment you will use. This could be cameras, scanner etc.
Trial a range of components. These could be: Colour, Fonts, images, animations
etc. Get and record stakeholder feedback to guide decision making.
Do a PMI sheet for each component.
Trial techniques and processes. These could be HTML or CSS techniques or
Photoshop techniques/processes. Get and record stakeholder feedback and do a
PMI form.
Design
Create a detailed design of your website. This includes layout, colours and
images. This could be drawn by hand or on the computer. This should include how
the layout will work (div tag placement) and styles (CSS rules) should be informed
by your trialling and stakeholder feedback.

Creating and on-going testing


Create the website testing as you go. Test code by using a validator as you
create your site. Document the results. Test layout etc. by getting others to try
them out.
Stakeholder feedback is important here. What do others think of your site as it is
developed?

Trialling and Evaluating


Trial the website and gain evidence of its fitness for purpose. Evaluate it
against the specifications and get stakeholders to evaluate it.
Trial the website using at least two different browsers and get others including
the teacher to test and comment on it.
