CAREER CENTER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS
The Career Planning & Placement Center is offering two great summer internship programs for 2010, Dream Dollars and The Scheyer Family Scholarship. The Dream Dollars Program is a unique “scholarship” program for undergraduates. The USC Dream Dollars Program provides stipends for USC students who receive internships with a non-profit or government organization. This program will support students hoping to gain work experience from an unpaid internship. Students will be selected through an application and interview process. All internships must be a minimum of six weeks during the summer. The program provides a stipend of $1,200 for each student. For more information please stop by the Internship Programs Office in STU B-1or attend the information session on March 2nd, 1-1:30pm in STU B-3. The Scheyer Family Scholarship for Summer Interns, established in December of 2007, will provide an award of $2,500.00 to two students enrolled in approved summer internships. Preference will be given to
sophomores, juniors or seniors with demonstrated financial need. Student recipients must have a major in the USC College of Letters, Arts & Sciences and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students must be in good academic standing and must have a graduation date between December 2010 and May 2013. Students must have an internship prior to applying for this scholarship. NBA – Summer Internships Our Summer Internship Program is a hands-on opportunity for enrolled college students to build their work experience and learn the behind-the-scenes operations of the NBA. Over the 10-week program, summer interns participate in a series of events and activities exposing them to the many facets of the NBA’s business. Applicant placement within an NBA Department is based on interest, experience, academic achievement and the NBA’s business needs. All positions are located at NBA League offices in either New York City (midtown Manhattan) or Secaucus, New Jersey. To qualify for the Program, students must be enrolled in a college or university at the undergraduate level and be in their sophomore or junior year. California Against Slavery – Intern Slavery still exists today. 17,000 slaves are sold in the United States each year—70% are female and 50% are children. At the same time, American minors are being exploited as sex slaves in the pimping industry. Today, a convicted human trafficker can walk free after 3-5 years under California law. It’s time for justice. Together we can make a difference. California Against Slavery (CAS) is a grassroots group passionate about stopping human trafficking and modern day slavery. Our immediate goal is to put an initiative on the November 2010 California General Election Ballot to strengthen current human trafficking laws and increase victims’ rights. This includes recruiting team leads, coordinating petition circulators, and monitoring training and materials for circulators to ensure we reach our goal of 1M signatures by Spring of 2010. Intern will gain valuable experience in grassroots mobilization, community organization, political campaigning, and leadership skills. Applicants must be passionate about stopping human trafficking. FELLOWSHIPS City Hall Fellows
City Hall Fellows is a non-partisan nonprofit national service corps training the next generation of leaders for America's cities. Our 12-month, paid, post-college Fellowship integrates hands-on experience working within the highest levels of local government with intensive training in how cities work. For the class of 2011, we will be placing cohorts of Fellows in 3 cities: Houston, Texas; San Francisco, California; Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Fellowship is open to students of ALL majors.
