April 2013

Dear Friends and Family,

1 have been neglectful in sending out the latest news of our ministry and family.

Over the past couple of months we have been very busy,

but as 1 look back I can't

really pick out one major event.

Margy spent two and a half weeks in March grandmothering Zach and Hannah. I held
down the fort here in Honduras. You don't really realize how much your partner does
until they take an extended vacation. By the way, have you ever tried to redeem
your airline frequent-flier miles? Having wisdom teeth removed is a pleasure in
comparison. But, Margy flew on her miles. I also purchased our tickets for this

summer's trip.
We hope to see many of you during that tour. We will be visiting churches, friends
and family. My Mother has been placed under the care of hospice, but she may live
for considerable time yet. I hope that she is lucid when we visit her in Las Vegas.
Naturally, if she passes on before then, all our plans and scheduling will have to
change.
I continue working on the materials for the leadership training seminar. 1 never
thought that I would write in Spanish, but my skills are improving slowly. Mark has
been a great help both in checking grammar and as a sounding board to help me
remain centered and reduce my tendency to wander. It is essential that the material
be concise, because we want to use this in a 1-year study program. We are trying to
set up meetings with our students from the first round of leadership training

seminars to celebrate their "graduation. " (None of us really graduate from

studying the word of God and its application to our lives). We will have cake and
present certificates of achievement at the ceremonies.

We continue to work at the conversion of the Bible institute to a camp. And we have

turned the administration and rental over to the pastors' association. We seek to
empower them. We don't want it to be an albatross, but if they can maintain and run
it, we hope to sign the property over to them next year. We will still maintain an
office and a shop there for awhile.
I love this grand-parenting thing. I can enjoy the baby until she gets fussy, or

needs a change, and then hand her off. We should have had them years sooner.
Actually we did, but Zach was a couple of thousand miles away, and we did not get
much time with him. Seriously, Katrina is now seven months old and a strong willed,
determined child.

She wants to walk and now free stands for a 20 or 30 seconds at a

time and gets around by pulling herself up on furniture; she will walk soon.

Blessedly, her parents have had the wisdom to teach her the word "NO"

early.

Margy reports that Hannah is happy all the time. She loves to eat and enjoys her
brother greatly. Nine year old Zach is very loving and helpful to her.
Thank you for your prayers on our behalf. Bill

Leadership Training Seminars...

Current Students - We are also currently
going to two churches each month to train
church leaders. We have approximately 23
students at the church in La Ceiba and 12 at
the church in Cofradia. We are in the

process of coordinating with other churches

to take the seminars to more locations soon.

Course Graduates - On April 10th we presented certificates of

completion to two of our groups from last year. These students
completed the two-year course in 2011 and 2012. We presented 9
certificates at these two locations. More students completed the
course but failed to turn in the final test. We will be presenting
certificates to the other 15 students that completed the course at
the other three locations.

Curriculum This year we are working

to condense the two-year curriculum down to a one-year course by
removing much of the repetition and less profitable material. This is a
very time-consuming process, but we hope that by shortening the
course, more students will complete the study.

Resolution Ceremony
In January, many of the men that
attended the men's retreat last fall

reunited to sign the resolution set

forth in the movie, "Courageous".
Their families joined them to
witness their commitment to being
men of integrity and Godliness.
More than 80 men and their

families traveled to Siguatepeque wearing their best attire for this memorable and special day.
It was touching to see sons learning from their father's example and families supporting these
men in this commitment.

Leadership Training - in Nicaragua

Mark had a great opportunity to
join his college roommate,
'*
Jonathan Wolfgang, in
Nicaragua for a mission trip.
Part of the team's purpose was
to provide pastor and leadership
training. They held a one day seminar for pastors in which they
emphasized having a servant attitude, pure motives, and integrity.
They also held a two day conference for men in church
leadership. Using the movie. Courageous, they again
encouraged the men to live lives of integrity and remain
faithful to God and their families. It was a blessing to see
God use Mark's experiences in Honduras to help equip and
train church leaders in Nicaragua. It was a joy for Mark to
be able to work along side his long time friend and brother

in Christ.

I Ith-I2th Grade Re-Entry Retreat

We had a great time on our 11th and 12th grade MK Re-Entry Retreat. Nine students from
different parts of Honduras came together on the island of Roatan for a week of fun in the
sun, growing friendships, and preparing for their next life transition. This was our fourth
retreat to partner with missionaries, Wes and Cindy Williamson, to cover material from the
book Third Culture Kids by David C. Polluck. Our sessions were spent discussing their
personal identities as missionary kids, the things they would grieve as they leave
Honduras, the challenges they will face as they "return" to a country that does not feel like
home, their unique gifts as MKs, and much more. We also enjoyed snorkeling, a park with
exotic birds and monkeys, and a zipline. It's always a blessing to see the students bond
with one another and walk alongside them as they process the material and work through
their personal experiences, fears, and anxieties.

Joining Bajb Christian Mission...

After consulting with Hazelwood Christian Church (Mark and Joy's sending church)
and Bajio Christian Mission's board, Mark and Joy have decided to join BCM and
come under their leadership. They have served overseas under the direction of
Hazelwood Christian Church for almost 14 years and have enjoyed this partnership

and relationship. They will continue to have a close relationship with Hazelwood
Christian, but the decision to officially join BCM was made in order to simplify record
keeping of ministry funds in Honduras and to provide continuity in BCM upon Bill and
Margy's (Mark's parents) future retirement. Bajio Christian Mission is the non-profit
organization that Bill and Margy formed 29 years ago while still serving in Mexico.
Bill and Margy and Mark and Joy have been working together in Honduras for nearly
12 years. Until now, we have maintained separate newsletters and publications. As
we officially join together under BCM, we will also begin collaborating in one single
newsletter mailing called "Co-Missioned". We believe you, our newsletter
subscribers, are a very big part of what God uses us to do each day. Without your
prayers, encouragement, and financial support, we could not continue. Therefore,
you are coworkers in the mission God has given us and we all share Christ's calling
in the Great Commission. Please bear with us as we combine our mailing lists. If you

receive two copies of this newsletter, please bring that to our attention, if you would
rather just receive he newsletter via e-mail please write us a note to that effect.
It will take some time to complete this transition. For tax purposes, Mark and Joy will
continue receiving their support at Hazelwood Christian Church through the end of
2013. All financial gifts beginning January 2014 should be sent to the BCM address.

Margy enjoyed a two-week visit in Knoxville. She was able

to spend the time with their daughter. Rebecca, and her
femily. Hannah will be I year old on May !3th.She is always
happy and loves to jump in her bouncer. Zach is in tiie
third grade and enjoys playing outside and riding his bike.

Katrina v/as 8 months old on

April 24th. She loves to crawl,

stand, and sing. She says ba, pa
da, and ma and has 8 teeth.

Leadership Training
Bill and Mark continue to travel each month to train church leaders at a church in Cofradia and

La Ceiba. There are currently about 12 students in each church. We are also editing the course
material in an attempt to make a more condensed study. We are working on the fourth and final
book in the series. We will then revisit all the books to correct errors discovered in the editing.
Our goal is to develop a curriculum that can be reproduced and taught by local leadership for
years to come.

Men's Retreat

7.
HFTO oeyBUMTesn

In October, the churches held their second men's retreat. As a

follow-up to last year's theme. Courageous, the men watched the

movie Fireproof and focused on
how to be Godly husbands.
Approximately 80 men came
from different parts of Honduras.
This was the first camp event that used the new dining
*
facility and tables. It is encouraging to see the men of
Honduras come together to strengthen one another in the
Lord.

12th Annual Honduras Missionary Conference

In September we held our 12th Annual Honduras
Missionary Conference. More than 115 missionaries
came from all over Honduras to share in a time of

spiritual renewal, fellowship, and networking. We were

blessed to listen to messages from Roy Comrie who
reminded us that God's justice may tarry but it is sure to
come. The kids and youth enjoyed being together and
learning about putting on the armor of God to face
satan's attacks.

Hazelwood Work Team...

We were thrilled to host a college
age team from Joy's home church,
Hazelwood Christian Church, in

August. They worked tirelessly on

the task of remodeling the camp
administrative house into a dining
facility. This required demolishing
and rebuilding walls, retiling floors, and other projects.

The team also served at a church that was planted by one of the Bible Institute alumni, Cesar
Heman. He is still pastoring this small, rural church. The team was prepared to do a program
for 40-60 children, but more than 130 children attended the event.
Even though it seemed overwhelming, the

team did a great job of ministering to the

kids. They sang songs, did a craft, played
games, and shared a Bible story. We are
hopeful that this program was instrumental in
bringing new families to this church in the
mountains.

Continued Construction...
Since the team left, Mark continued to

oversee the hired workers to complete the

remodeling project. They have built and
tiled counter tops for the new kitchen and
finished a new bathroom in the cook's
quarters.

Baji'o Christian Mission Address Change...

We are very grateful for the faithful service of the BCM treasurer, Lyn Mclntyre, over the last
several years. Due to family care needs, she has had to step down from this position. The Bajio
Christian Mission board has decided on a new treasurer to fill this role. Due to this transition, funds

should now be sent to his address in Indiana: Bajio Christian Mission, 4886 E. County Rd. 400 S.,
Plainfield, IN 46168. Please make note of this change.
Mark and Joy will continue to receive their funding at the Hazelwood Christian Church address until
January of 2014. At that time, all funds will need to be sent to Bajio Christian Mission at the
Plainfield, Indiana address given above.

Thank you very much for your prayers and financial support!

Joys parents came down inAugust to celebrate Katrinas first

birthday. Katrina is the light of our lives and brings us great joy.
She loves ducks (her birthday theme), music, books, baby dolls,
and being chased. She's been walking since she was nine months
old and she is continually babbling on about something.

Margys college roommate, Marge Phipps,

came for a visit in October. We all had a

fun time together at the beach and around

town. It was a great time to rekindle an old
friendship. Also pictured above is a recent
picture of Rebecca's kids, Zach and Hannah.
