Ask Ss to look at the sentences and make sure that they


understand the meanings of the adjectives (they have all
appeared at some point in the Total English Elementary
course).

Use this activity after Lesson 7.2 Ex. 2 on page 82.


Procedure
Ss work in pairs. Give each pair a copy of the activity.
Explain that the crossword can be completed by
rearranging the letters in the table to form words related
to the arts and films. The words in the table are not in the
same order as the crossword, and there are no numbers
in the crossword, but to help them some letters of each
word have already been put into the crossword.
Allow them about 1015 minutes for this, then ask them
to stop, and check their answers. The winning pair is the
pair who has completed most of the crossword.

Comparative bingo

Use this activity after Lesson 7.1 Ex. 4 on page 81.


Procedure
Before you begin, make sure that Ss are familiar with the
game of bingo, with a brief demonstration/diagram on
the board.
Divide the class into six teams, and give each team a
bingo card. Make sure all the team members can see it
(you might need to make more than one copy of each
card if you have a big class, or enlarge the photocopies).

Procedure
Ss work in pairs. Give each pair a copy of the activity.
Explain that there are 18 adjectives hidden in the grid.
Ss must find these adjectives, then use 14 of them to
complete the sentences. They must change the adjectives
to their superlative forms.
The words in the grid can be read horizontally from left
to right (), and from right to left ( ), and also vertically
top to bottom ( ) and bottom to top ( ).

The winning pair is the pair who find the most adjectives
and put them correctly into the sentences after
1015 minutes.

Spontaneous decision dominoes

Use this activity after Lesson 7.3 Ex. 9 on page 85.


Procedure
Ss work in groups of three or four. Give each group a set
of cards and a list of verbs.
Explain that their cards contain pairs of sentences, A and
B. Sentence B follows on from sentence A (give them an
example to illustrate this, e.g., A The music is very loud.
B Ill turn the radio down). The aim of the activity is for Ss
to join all the cards together, the B sentences following
on from the A sentences. To help them, the first and last
cards are marked Start and Finish. However, the verbs
have been removed from the B sentences. Your students
will find these in their verb list. They must also put these
into the B sentences.
The first group to join all the cards together and complete
the B sentences with the right verb is the winner.

Procedure
Ss work in groups of four. Give each group a copy of the
activity.
Explain to Ss that they have decided to go in their group to
a big city for the weekend, and they must decide what to
do. They should each choose one picture in each set (they
cannot choose the same picture as another student in their
group), and write their name under that picture.
Working together, they try to persuade the others in their
group that their choice is the best. They then decide on
one picture in each set.
