Define and explain the following theories of failure, a) Maximum shear stress b)

Maximum strain energy theory.

Explain briefly the following loads act on the aircraft a) Fuselage load b) Landing

gear load.

Calculate the shear flow distribution in the channel section shown in Figure

produced by a vertical shear load of 4.8 KN acting through its shear center.

Assume that the walls of the section are only effective in resisting shear stresses

while the booms, each of area 300 mm2, carry all the direct stresses.

kNm applied in the vertical plane of symmetry. If the section has been completely

idealized into a combination of direct stress carrying booms and shear stress only

carrying panels, determine the direct stress in each boom.

The thin-walled single cell beam shown in Figure has been idealized into a

combination of direct stress carrying booms and shear stress only carrying walls.

If the section supports a vertical shear load of 10 kN acting in a vertical plane

through booms 3 and 6, calculate the distribution of shear flow around the section.

The thin-walled single cell beam as shown in figure 1 has been idealized into a

combination of direct stress carrying booms and walls carrying only shear stress.

The section supports a vertical shear load of 10 kN acting in the vertical plane

through booms 3 and 6. Calculate the distribution of shear flow around the

section. Boom areas: B1 = B8 = 200 mm2 , B2 = B7 = 250 mm2 , B3=B6=400

mm2 , B4 = B5=100 mm.

Write a short note on the following joints with neat sketch. a) Spliced joint b)

Eccentric joint c) Gusset joint d) Welded joint e) Braced joint.

Write a short note on a) Semi tubular rivets and blind rivets b) hi-lok fastener and

taper fasteners.
