Such a beautiful songand words! It has a depth of love and warmth that brings tears everytime I sing
it. God's love is that way...The season we have been in is winter! It was apparent with leafless trees, non-

blooming shrubs, flowers of all kinds dormant, and grasses browned by the frost. There is a certain portion
of Shuster Ave. in El Paso, I love and as we rounded a curve, the gorgeous blue, cloudless sky had caught
my eye and captured my thoughts, but suddenly there was a huge flowering tree, high in the yard of a hillside
home that was laden with brilliant pink buds. What a sight, and what a surprise! 1 had no idea things were
so close to budding out. The day before perky little jonquils peeped through and the tulips and hyacinths
surprised us as they burst forth. God's timing takes place as always as he wills it! My how this was brought
home to us the very next day.

As you all know for two years we had tried to sell our home. It was such a responsibility to have while
travelling, and also the work was endless for us. Coupled with the tremendous office work, and letter writing,
we were really at the place of thinking God had other plans, as we felt we could no longer go off and leave
our house as before. HOWEVER, in those two years, we realized there had been absolutely NO TIME for
us to move. We were booked too heavy, and the timing was not right. People would go thru the house, and
tell the real estate agent they would be back with a contract. NOTHING!!
Most of you do not know that my back became severely painful this past year, having had a very hard
fall earlier. 1 tried and tried to keep going, but toward the end of our tour we rearranged our schedule and
cut it short, to come home to my doctor. I ended up in the hospital. The renewal for the contract of sale
was due on the house. We told our friend we would not go ahead right now. I was not up to having a house
ready for showing constantly, and then we decided that we might even just try to sell it ourselves.
Our prayers became more earnest. We KNEW God was alive, He had a plan, but WHAT. After the weeks
of prayer, and hoping and praying we would do the right thing, we decided.we would put it in the paper
just one weekend. We did not want to spend much money on advertising. Our final prayer was, "Lord, don't
let us make a mistake, but if it is your will send us just ONE person, a buyer!" Nothing on Friday, but on
Saturday evening the phone rang. A voice said, "Is this the house with the little gazebo, on Portland?" I
said, "Yes, it is!" She said, "I've got to have that house!" End of story, she bought it!
We had also prayed at the same time that the Lord would lead us to the right place, and without a doubt
again, we have found it. I have always heard the saying, "The Lord will answer your prayers according to
his will, and I believe that with all my heart. Also the answer will be YES, NO, OR WAIT AWHILE. This
answer was surely a long time coming, but yet it worked out perfect in His timing. Because of my physical
situation we are bound to home for a period of time. Usually we are home only Jan., Feb., and March. These
months are so full of preparation, moving would be impossible. By being detained this time, moving will be
accomplished with less stress and strain.
Now I can tell you we were astounded, thankful and certainly humbled at the way our God moved in this.
You might wonder where does the song "Blest be the tie" come in?....Without the prayers for us, the sale
of the house, and consistant concern and love from so many wonderful friends, our faith may not have been
strong enough to sustain us. The bond of Christian love is the greatest sustaining power I know of, other
than our Lord Jesus Christ. We thank God for all our friends! (Phil 2: 1 & 2, N.A.S.V.)
You will be wondering what is the situation since I have been in limbo, and what is wrong. Diagnosis, another
disc has gone, scar tissues built up on the four other back surgeries, and of course the arthritis is in there
full force. The pain has been intense. Numerous measures other than additional surgery are being tried. Some
working, some not. Travel to the scale that we had kept up will be impossible, thus we have prayed and prayed
about what to do. We have many things scheduled and pending. It does not seem we should discontinue our
work. Those scheduled we are hopeful of keeping, in many instances flying. (They will pay expenses.) Then
for those that we drive to, we will go at a much slower pace, with less in the area at the time. Some days
we had three concerts, besides numerous radio, newspaper, and TV interviews, and that was a lot. We feel
one of our greatest ways of helping other parents and people involved in Mental Retardation has been thru
various agencies. We hope to concentrate on Benefit concerts for these, and at the same time, schedule the

churches in the area. Possibly, just flying in and then returning after the course of events have been fulfilled.

We feel we can continue as things are now by just slowing our pace.

Also so many people have said, "Why don't you wriie another book, or why don't you send articles to magazines."
The main reason is TIME. The schedule we were keeping made it an impossibility. I struggled for days just writing

the newsletter. I have many things I would like to write about, but without office help, I have no time. With the slower
pace, I am hoping that these things might become a pan of our ministry, possible reaching MORE people than we
are now. The whole emphasis is and always will be, ''We can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me."
Our first trek out will be to Denver the weekend of April 19, 20, and 21. We will share in a Missions Fair at the

Bear Valley Christian Church there, and then fly to the Chicago area for the Indiana Association of Retarded Citizens
Association State Convention. This will be a superb opporiunity and time will be precious at Bear Valley on Sunday.

Also while in Denver, Tim will give a benefit concert for the Adams County Association of Retarded Citizens (The
Adams County Center). The exact date is pending as 1 write. This time out will tell us a lot as to the limits we are
bound by.

I was asked to write an article for Seek magazine, and this time has permitted that. It will be published in Dec.
issue 1985, and concentrates on the joys and hardships of having a special child.
The fall tour has left us with so many marvellous memories, and hopefully after we get moved I can write this in

Baley's Notebook. Of special significance was Tim's visit again to the Nation's Capital and playing at the National
Symposium of Mental Deficiencies. Those days were WILD but meaningful.
There have been several concerts while home, but not as many as before since I have been in stop gear. Probably

one of the greatest helps to Tim is playing as church pianist for the little church we attend when in town. They are
without a pianist currently. Tim was the only one. His playing was not always in the key for one to sing. He wanted
to do it SO BADLY, that he spent hours upon hours practicing so he could accomplish this. Dad was by his side
helping, and together by Saturdaynight. Victory was there for Sunday. Also, this has madeand forced him into greater
versatility in his regular playing. He is so proud that he can serve HIS Lord in this way. It's a dream we never thought
possible.

Jerry will begin the rounds again with getting Melody ready to go. We hope to be able to resolve the heating of
the transmission, and hope that our expense in all the repairs will be minimal. It may be necessary to go to a heavy
car, for the comfort of riding. We are considering this. So MUCH to THINK ABOUT!
We ask your MOST EARNEST PRAYERS FOR US TO KNOW GOD'S WILL AND DIRECTION IN ALL
THINGS. We want to glorify and honor HIM according to HIS will in our lives always in all ways. Pray for health,
strength, wisdom and direction, for the relief from pain.

Without saying, you know medical expenses are wild, Melody has them tooand January and February are usually
poor months financially. If you can help, we would be so grateful.
Tim's bike as well as his piano are really getting the workout since we are home!

We just wanted to let you know what is going on and that we love each one of you, and a fuller report will be
on its way as soon as I physically am able to handle it all.
Those who ordered the book will be receiving them shortly. They arrived but the binder did not do a satisfactorjj
job...thus they were sent back to be done over. THEY WILL be coming!!!

How much we love and appreciate each of you and for your prayers and financial help we humbly say THANKS
from the bottom of our hearts.

God Bless, good health, and so-long for now,

Palsy's

June 1985
Just to CHATTER and share some ' HI - NOTES ' so have

a cup and think with me about this story I heard. (WeVe thought
a lot about it.) A woman confiding her troubles to a friend in
a distant city wrote, "WiU you PLEASE PRAY WITH ME that
in this crisis I will be guided to do what, a year from now, I
wiU wish I had done, (or be glad I did)!' A surge of reassurance
can sweep through your blood SIMPLY by reading Psalms 32:8b
- "I WILL GUIDE THEE WITH MINE EYE!' With Him as

our guide and helper, we can live today so that we will have
NO regrets tomorrow. It all takes TEAMWORK, and there is
no "I" in team. Form a partnership - YOU AND CHRIST!
And now some Key Notes. ..

. . . First is the WHOLE NOTE. . .A longer note about

Earnest prayers for our tomorrows have gone up!!! Our prayer:
HOW CAN WE BEST SERVE? Limitations of physical en
durance have taken pre-eminence in planning our future. A trip
in Melody (our motorhome) to Denver and another to Austin
left us with NO doubt an easier riding vehicle would have to
replace our Melody! (That was devastating as she was family.)
Jerry began the rounds of hunting the right van or heavy car,
and our prayers were continuous. Result, we traded her for a
1984 Ford conversion van. (Tim is disappointed it isn't
DIESEL.) It was so clean I was sure it must be new when he
came home with it. The seats are excellent, and the comfy cap
tain's chairs recline. Also the back seats make into a bed. As

lovely as it is and as comfortable as it will be for travelling,

IT ISN'T MELODY, AND WE'LL MISS HER! It won't be the

same. . .Our next trip out will be June 30 through most of July
into New Mexico, Arizona, and California. This will tell us a
lot in how we can schedule our future. We do plan a slower

The GRAND Surprise

pace and more concentration in an area when we drive, but we
are looking more and more to the big birds in the sky. Friends
have told us about the airlines and the tickets you can buy and
go any place in the U. S, for one price for the full year. This
is available to senior citizens, and Jerry is (Should I say it?)
a saintly senior! Actually we cannot begin to drive for the cost
of the tickets. We are faced with an ever increasing office load,
as the past 4-1/2 years have brought us into a lot of situations
and lives! Constant requests of every description come across
the desk, and yes, fan mail for Tim, and we see an ever increas
ing Arm Landers' type of help to parents and concerned people.
Mail is always stacked. And even as it is we do not handle the
3,000 plus on the mailing list and keep it updated. Spanish
American Evangelism, who capably does all of our printing,
also sweats over the mailing in its entirety. We need to be able
to have much less HIGHWAY TRAVEL and use this time in

correspondence, writing, booking, bookwork, etc. We have

grown to the place where most offices would have 3-4 people
on their staff. Rest and relaxation seem to be nil. Having the
van will lessen work that was necessary for Jerry on the motor
home (Driving is about a full time job.) and for myself the
housekeeping entailed in it. We are planning emphasis on
writing, as there are many possibilities here, and also, AGAIN,
at the persistence of many, many people, a sequel to my book,
or another book. I am surprised at myself, but I REALLY do
want to do this. (I can't say that for the first one.) Time again
is a hindering factor, just as I have not been able to do a full

been such JOY in planning, and people have helped in every
possible way. It has certainly proved to us howwonderfully Tim
and Jerry and I have been so blessed of God by such a host
of friends. We plan to havea videocassette made of it, sojnany
of you can see it this way. I believe this will about equal the
surprise he had when he played with LIBERACE. The piano

only color choices. My only conmient is it is ELEGANT, and

terviewaired, Red Camp's son was in California driving down

the highway, and he heard the interviewXW (Red is Tim's piano
teacher in Corpus Christi, Ibcas.) What a shock.. .The only
natural thing for son to do was call his dad!!! Another inter

view in Florida produced Red a phone call from a musician

friend of years back. (As Tim always says, "Back in the olden

It took 1-1/2hours to drive the 60 miles from Chicago to Merrivilleand 2-1/2 hours to fly from Denverto Chicago!! Purpose
of trip.. .Tim was invited to play for the state convention of
the A. R. C. (Association of Retaided Citizens) which was held
in the hotel Wewerepampered and cared for, and we had every
intentionof reciprocating just as intently. Well, the airlines goof

more than a LITTLE disturbed, but he trudged on - playing

in the suit he had donned at 4:30 A. M. I assure you he and
dadwere ready for a change of clothes when we got back to
Denver next day. (Oh yes, we picked the suiter up in^hirago~
and took it in hand back to Denver. Th^ can even lose stuff

memorable and thrilling experience.

SURPRISEI

Whoops! About forgot the 16th note (tiniest note of all).

Introducing "Charmie!" Our home wihout a dog (Actually she

doesn't know she's a dog.) has left us all longmg for the same
since we had to give up Tiffany. At Christmas friends sent a
check and said, "Don't spend this on your work or on Melody!
It is for a gift for the 3 of you!' Ah Ha! I thought - a puppylf'
could train to travel with us. A LONG story evolved, but we
got the adorable 9 oz., 4 week old, (supposedly) white (She has
considerable apricot coloring.), tea cup poodle, on Dec. 24. A
name? Oh, say, "Jerry, I love Stephanie but we need a neat
French name, so that's your job - o.k.?" Well, it wasn't o.k.,
but he found the French word Charmant which means SWEET

(And she is sweet\), so he suggested calling her "Charmie!'

Perfect! In telling Loretta Sapp her name I said, "In our case
it is please squeeze the Charmie!" She laughed and said, "Oh,
then she's little T.P.!" Her full growth weight is less than 3-1/2
lbs. A man said, "Where's the REST of your dog?" How we
love her!

'TIM'S HYMNS'

. . . In her book Rosemary tells not only of the many crises

in their lives, but also how God has given their son a tremen
dous finger dexterity and how it led to a keen interest in the
piano. As parents, they did all in their power to encourage Tim
in his music. His little one finger and one hand tunes led to
two fingers, two hands, and soon he was scaling the keyboard!
Tim plays almost completely by ear, never with music, and a
song is rarely played the same way twice. Those who hear and
see him MARVEL at this God-given ability. Many requests
were made for tapes after reading the book or hearing him
thus "TIM'S HYMNS HE TOUCHED ME" was made. The

name so chosen simply because, truly, GOD touched this one's

life. There are 17 favorite hymns on the cassette.

"Play me a song, Tim!"

Fall 1985

Happy 90th birthday, Grandma Brechbuhler!!

April 19,1985 - It was 6:00 A.M., a cold, misty, dreary

morning as we piled into the car of our good friend,
Wilma Grimstad, and hastened to the Denver, Colorado,
International Airport. Anticipation of the coming events

we thought we HAD to have into "LITTLE

working toward, June 30, was here, and with a bit of fear

BLUEBIRD" (our van). Would you guess she's blue?

Traveling in Melody (our motorhome) all these past years
made it relatively simple. If we thought we needed IT,
was not dampened by the wet weather; we did not realize we would stuff it in! In the van, not so! So we drug out
the severity of the storm above us. The coming activities and then drug in and finally after what seemed forever,
and the part we were to have in the convention we were wehad it all togetherand the day wehad been diligently

fastening seatbelts and zooming high in the sky. Alas, (of what we might have missed taking) we pulled away
a touch of fear as we began to enter into the hovering, from El Paso on I-IO with ease and comfort in the "Little
black clouds. It seemed they were so heavy they would Bluebird". Oh, how the desert heat was upon us, but

crush the plane. Lightning, though beautiful, was like a

knife stabbing. The rough, choppy movements left one's
stomach churning. Fear gripped many, and my own
uneasiness was surfacing until I remembered who is able
to bring PEACE in ANY storm! John 14:27 "Peace I

Paso...

A missionary to India came to El Paso. He said to his

hostess that he wanted to meet Tim Baley and his parents,
if it was possible, and we didn't live too far. His friend

said she would try to arrange it. Her apartment complex

is in the next block from ours! When Phillip and Margaret
Ho came, they told us they had heard the 'Tim Baley
Story" in India via The Voice of America. Here is what
happened. Last March when we were privileged to attend
the International Symposium on Mental Deficiencies in
Washington, D. C., one of the many interviews we had
was on The Voice of America. They followed us around
the great share of a morning and again at night. This was
what Phillip and Margaret had heard. At the same time,
in the San Francisco area, Red and Alvis Camp's son (Red

is Tim's teacher) was driving down the freeway in

California, and he heard it!!! He called his mom and dad

telling them he had heard the story of Tim and Red!!!

HOW TIME FLIES

Lir Bluebird Wings Her Way North

Traveling now north through Georgia, and color is
indicative fall is here. Oh, we are so blessed to see such

beauty. Into Tennessee and soon Kentucky. An overnight

stop at Lexington and with the Broadway Christian
Church. A tasty dinner, and then a concert which was
aptly entitled a "Taste of Tim". Next morning we
hi-tailed it on to Canton, Ohio. I drank in the scenery,
and Jerry drove! Who can say there is no God when they

look at such beauty? Late afternoon we surprised mother.

Arrival time was earlier than anticipated. Tim was
pedaling hard in the back of the van to get to Grandma's,
so we went faster.. .Grandma had a spread, and was it
tasty. It was a long day, and bed was so welcome. Florida
seemed to have a thing against laundromats, so we saved
it ALL for Canton. It took awhile, but we were soon clean
again. We had gone to Canton for several reasons, but
the main one was my mother's 90th birthday celebration!

.. .The days of "at home" are fading. Bags are drug

out and packed, and before we realize, we are heading
out again, and it is September. I wonder where the
summer went?

AND THEN IT'S "ON THE ROAD AGAIN"

September 16 was a beautiful day to travel. The heat

was gone, and clouds were upon us. A few scattered
showers made it most pleasant. Our path this time was
east on I-IO. Florida isn't just around the corner from
Texas. When we hit ORANGE, Texas, we were 1/2 way

to Florida, another "Believe It or Not." Hopes of a

concert in Sour Lake, Texas, were realized. Such
SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY. Tim was elated as
Preacher and Mrs. Buford Cole loaded him down with

HOT PEPPERS. Every place we would stop to eat he

drug a few out of his pockets to enjoy with his meals.
I told him they were hot enough to set his pants on fire.
His reply, "Oh, Mom, they're not hot!".. .We were
saddened as we saw the effects of some of Hurricane

Elena's happenings as we drove along the coast. What

we feared was an endless trip wasn't, as we did come to
Orlando eventually and in time for our first commitment
which was at the Southeast Christian Church in Orlando.

This active, growing, busy congregation has an 8:15 A.M.

service. Tim would never vote for thatbut he did agree
to play, and amazingly he KNEW he did it! Afternoon
was our time to journey to Apopka (near Orlando) and

She doesnH really look 90!

We started the activities off with a lovely family dinner

for all who could make it on Friday, October 4 (actual
birthday October 5). What a delightful meal and time,
but I felt bad when we got home. In the night a sore throat
awakened me. Saturday, the 5th, I was SICK. High
temperature, sore throat, etc. soon found me in the

doctor's office. One very special event we had planned

to take in while home was my 40th high school class
reunion. I had never been able to attend one. The timing

was perfect. It was this night!!! Medicine and bed all day,
and then to the reunion. What a joy to see everyone after
SO MANY years. Amazing there were few I didn't know
even though time made its changes on all of us. One of
the class members, a commerical photographer, made a
picture of all class members. It turned out beautifully,
and I know all cherish it as I do. Thanks, Walt! The only

changes I saw were maturity, a few gray hairs here and

there, and a deep sense of caring. (It comes with
maturing.) Next morning we were to sing for church, and
Tim play. I told the doctor the day before I HAD to, for
it was mother's birthday, and we wanted to sing for her.
He said, "You will never do it." Well, I got E for effort.

We wanted to share it with you.

I've admired her since I was a kid,

A Christian example in all that she did.

I knew her mother too quite well.

Our plans for Open House were so capably laid by my

and memorable occasion for all of us. All of the family

was there except a nephew from Dallas and a nephew

from Columbus, Ohio, who came but ended up as an

emergency in the hospital. From about 1:45 until after

4:00, mother STOOD greeting her host of friends. What
a tribute to her! We kept teUing her to sit down, but she
didn't have time. We left the gala affair at 4:00 and
hurried to prepare for the concert at the First Christian
Church in Canton at 6:00. Mother and the family came
later. Tim gave the concert his very best, and Grandma

knew it was especially for her. A host of friends enjoyed

a let down and fill-up time after, and mother was in the
center of it. The gifts (though she requested NONE) and

Mother, Wayne, & our Aunt Alice

Now we get into a BUSY week. We had been asked

to give a BENEFIT CONCERT for Heart, Inc. (A
planned Christian residential home for the retarded in
Canton). We said, **We'd be glad to." It was set for
Saturday, October 12.1 had told Mary Price, the charm
ing director, we would be available for concert publicity

under such pressure now, and we went to bed EARLY.

Felt we needed it.
On the HOMEWARD TRAIL

Travel weather remained beautiful, and the vibrant

colors became more intense. Des Moines, Iowa, and the

Rising Sun Church of Christ gave us a lovely reception.

The city was colorful, and the church was responsive and
spontaneous in every way. An excellent concert for a week
night. Afterward started driving on toward Joplin,
Missouri, our destination for the following night. We
figured if we could drive 100 miles, it would ease the next
day. A motel a friend told us about sounded like a perfect
place to stop. There hadn't been a motel on the road since
we have traveled that has been full or close to it. Wouldn't

after October 6. Well, she was a busy little bee, and we

had tremendous opportunitiesseveral T.V. interviews,
and numerous places to play. On top of that, we squeezed
in some special times with friends and family! The week
flew by, and before we knew it, it was Saturday, October
12. One of the most beautiful places Tim has ever played
was in the Palace Theatre that night. It has been partially
restored (is 60 years old) and is a real treasure, though
many didn't think so and wanted to tear it down. It is
now secured by an endowment. A unique beauty is the
ceilinga replica of stars and cloudsand you are certain
it moves. Tim was enthralled and felt so honored to play
there. Boy Scouts and Viet Nam Color Guard gave a very

special touch to the lovely affair. We were happy to be

a part of such an energetic group of concerned people
working toward this cause. Hats off to Mary and Bill

you know, at 12:30A.M. they had a NO VACANCY sign.

They were full, too, I am sure, as cars were everywhere.
The Lord provided a place just a bit further. For awhile
we wondered though! Off again at 6:15 A.M. and arrived
in Oronogo, Missouri, (near Joplin) in plenty of time for
Tim to practice and have a nice visit and dinner and then
to the church. After the concert a quiet time of visiting
with our hosts, the Charles Weavers. Tim was enamored
with their large, lovely farm house. The LAST LAP is now
before us. Tim said, "Dad, I'm so anxious to get home!'
I said, "Dad, I'm anxious to get home!' Jerry drove 569
miles to Amarillo that day, and early the next morning
we were back at it. One urgency was our puppy, Charmie,
who had gotten sick and wasn't improving. Her fragile
3 lbs. was losing its hold on her. It was a question to us
what her problem wasbut we felt sure she got some food
from against the wall or under a bed in a motel (possibly
sprayed with bug repellant. Jerry saw her chewing, and
soon after she was sick.) We did not want to take her to
a vet along the road so getting home was important to
'Charmie', if not to anyone else. We winged our way on
from Amarillo and arrived safely Saturday afternoon, Oc
tober 19. Tim's longing to see and play his beautiful ivory
grand and pedal about El Paso was soon realized. People
in the apartment say, "It's so QUIET while you're gone!"
