The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information denounced today the continued illegal
detention of blogger Ahmed Doma after having completed his term beginning on 5/2/2009 and
ending on 5/2/2010. However, he is still detained in Arish police department with no legal
justification.

Doma's case dates back to January 2009 , when he passed through to Gaza during the Israeli
offense. Upon is return to Egypt ,he was arrested by Egyptian security. Despite being a civilian
, and not holding any military post he was court-martialed. The military court of Ismailia
sentenced Ahmed Saad Doma to one year in prison and a fine of LE 2000, on charges of illegal
infiltration of the eastern border , violating the presidential decree #298/1995. During his

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said that abusing of Doma and others in
Egypt is at odds with what the Egyptian government has announced on 19/2/2010, before the
United Nations Human Rights Council, that the alleged use of emergency laws against
journalists, bloggers and political activists, is based on incorrect information.
