Healing INTRODUCTION This is a condensed guide containing the basic steps for improving and maintaining your health. It demonstrates the principles for avoiding or overcoming acquired diseases, and living a healthy, fulfilled life, regardless of age. This is actually our natural birthright. We just need to return or advance to a more natural lifestyle where healing can take place. The key paradigm for moving towards radiant health is ‘natural living and holistic healing’. This is based on lifestyle and healing methods that lead us towards attaining harmony with our biological, social, and spiritual nature. ‘Holistic healing’ means improving all levels and aspects of our being while moving towards achieving greater harmony in our day-to-day life. By following these outlined methods and guidelines towards rebuilding your health, you are certain to improve, whatever the name of your disease. Rather than fighting a disease, focus all your resources on improving your health. Your disease is then liable to disappear on its own, and you will have a very good chance of remaining healthy and fit right into old age. THE ROAD TOWARDS DISEASE These days most of humanity lives in relatively unnatural conditions surrounded by a minefield of technological and chemical health hazards. Even worse is the fact that we are largely unaware of the nature of these hazards, therefore, in order to live more as nature intended we need to become aware of the main health hazards in our environment and learn to avoid or minimize them. If in doubt, try to envisage which condition or course of action is more natural and in harmony with our human nature. The main biological influences on our health are environmental factors, nutrition and exercise. Our health is also significantly influenced by our beliefs and emotions. In addition there are numerous other natural healing methods to help us in our quest. These range from herbal and other remedies and working on muscle and bone structures to using electro, magneto and vibrational medicine. Real health, the perfect functioning of all parts of body and mind, is so rare that most people do not recognize it and mistake the temporary absence of disease symptoms for health. Formerly, people suffered mainly from violent but short and often fatal infectious diseases; now they are afflicted with chronic degenerative diseases for a lifetime. The main factors causing our health degeneration are as follows: 1. Unnatural nutrition: food refining, lack of 'living food', lack of vitamins, minerals and enzymes, incorrect food combining, unsuitable diet for our metabolic or blood type. 2. Chemical and Electromagnetic pollution: pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, medical drugs, food additives, synthetics, air and water pollution, and microwaves. 3. Lack of physical activity: too much sedentary TV, computer, office activity, driving instead of walking. 4. Harmful negative feelings and emotions: resentment, fear, discontent, greed, envy; emotional damage during birth, childhood or adolescence - and lack of positive feelings such as happiness, gratitude, devotion, contentment, joy and positive role models. 5. Harmful mental attitudes: lack of spiritual or humanistic goals, worry, and lack of faith that things will work out in your favour. 6. Inherited genes: of poor and deteriorating quality. As a result of these negative factors, we inherit or develop an inefficient
digestive system, weak immune functions, and problems with various organs. Initially, and especially during childhood, this leads to short bouts of acute infections, digestive upsets and rashes. Sooner or later we develop chronic diseases that become ever more debilitating and life threatening. Using drugs and technological solutions to suppress the symptoms of our deteriorating condition does nothing to reverse this trend and re-establish good health. THE ROAD TOWARDS RADIANT HEALTH We can only reverse the relentless deterioration of our health by removing the negative factors that caused it and replacing them with positive steps and habits. This means practicing natural living - i.e. good nutrition, proper breathing, plenty of physical activity, improved emotional and mental attitudes, as well as using specific procedures, uppermost of which is the purification of body and mind. A fundamental aim of all healing is to provide the body with more vitality. True healing is always a holistic process involving physical, bio-energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects. Before you see a natural therapist or search the Internet for specific remedies to cure your health problem, try to get the basics right then most of your problems may disappear on their own and any remaining symptoms will give a much better indication of what is required. Basic health improvement should include the following steps: • Intestinal Sanitation: Remove old accumulated wastes, establish proper bowel movements, eliminate harmful microbes and re- establish a healthy intestinal flora. • Cleansing: Remove metabolic wastes and accumulated toxins through repeated cleansing periods. Sanitize your teeth. • Allergy Testing: After a cleanse re-introduce foods gradually to discover any food allergies and chemical sensitivities. • Acid-Alkaline Balance: Check the acidity of your urine and saliva, and correct any over-acid or over-alkaline condition. • Microbes and Parasites: Remove harmful microbes and parasites with the help of simple remedies and devices. • Pollution Control: Minimize electromagnetic and chemical pollution inside your home. • Healthy Living: Improve your health with exercise, sunshine and ‘living’ water. • Good Diet: Adopt a high-quality diet suited for the specific requirements of your body. • Mind and Emotions: Use mind tools to eliminate negative beliefs and emotions and acquire positive ones instead. By adopting this program, better health and an enjoyable life is possible for almost everyone. The key to success is in your mind! True healing simply means learning and applying the laws of nature. THE HEALING CRISIS When using holistic healing methods you need to understand the principle of the healing crisis. We do not follow a straight line of either health improvement or health deterioration. Periods of illness interspersed with times of relative wellbeing occur on the downhill road to chronic degenerative diseases and death. Similarly, we also have ups and downs on the uphill road to superior health. Travelling downhill is easy, we do not need to work for it, but improving our health requires consistent effort. Contrary to the lengthy periods of ill health on the downhill road, the dips on the uphill road are usually short and sharp. They are called 'healing crises' although I prefer the less dramatic name 'healing reaction', or simply 'reaction'. After each reaction we advance to a higher level of health than before. The road to better health follows a definite pattern. The old system of nature cure called it… HERING'S LAW OF CURE:
"All cure starts from within outwards, from the head down and in reverse order as the symptoms have appeared." This means that in every real healing the sequence of our health deterioration will automatically be retraced: old, long-forgotten disease symptoms may suddenly flare up again in the form of a healing crisis. In addition, the emotional side of our health problems is important. Each disease, accident or surgical intervention contains a strong emotional component that needs to be re-experienced during a reaction; otherwise the healing remains incomplete and the problem may present itself again at a later time for healing at a deeper level. This also means that the body selects the kind of healing crisis that is most appropriate at the time, taking into consideration its needs and abilities to have a certain area healed or improved. We can consciously influence this choice by working on a particular problem. In the beginning our healing reactions will be mainly on the physical or biological level, but more and more we will experience the release of emotional blocks and changes in consciousness. PATTERNS OF HEALING At some stage on the road towards health the body will feel strong enough to renew the fight for healing a diseased organ and this can result in inflammation and pain. Also a limb that had been paralyzed during an earlier disease may temporarily be afflicted again. Other common healing reactions are boils and mucus discharge in what appears to be a cold, or skin rashes. E.g. a skin reaction over a stiff or painful joint may lead to improvement of the joint. If one supports the body during this period with rest, cleansing diets and so forth, then the organ will eventually acquire much better health than before the flare-up. If, however, drugs are used to suppress the healing symptoms, then the inflamed organ will return to its sub-acute, chronic condition and wait for another opportunity to heal itself. You may actually learn much about yourself, your body, your health problems and your emotional reactions by patiently observing the healing process instead of rushing to “fix” them. What you should do rather, is live as healthily as possible, cleanse the body and be optimistic about it all. Such healing crises may appear from time to time separated by weeks, months or even years, bringing us ever closer to achieving our goal of superior health. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY Various problems may suddenly develop during health improvement. Formerly, the body was insensitive to commonly used harmful foods or drugs, but now there is an immediate and forceful reaction. Foods that you may have eaten habitually before going on a cleansing diet may suddenly cause a gastro-intestinal upset making you feel sick and miserable for days. However, such reactions do not need to happen if you first test for food allergies or use a low-allergy diet. Your body now trusts that you will not hurt it any more in the old ways. But if you do, your body is very offended and lets you (the mind) know about it in no uncertain terms. This is the language of the body. If you learn to listen, your body will first tell you about its needs in a subtle way - an intestinal rumbling, an itch, a slight muscle weakness or a passing pain - before using more drastic measures. Eventually it will let you know its needs by intuition, by likes and dislikes, and you will rediscover your lost body instincts. Then you become independent of expert advice and just do what your body ‘tells’ you to be right. While one can usually gain quick relief from distressing symptoms, rebuilding a strong and healthy body is a slow process and can take a long time. It needs a great deal of experimenting and solid determination to carry through with a program, often for many years. While one can usually gain quick relief from distressing symptoms, rebuilding a
strong and healthy body is a slow process and can take a long time. It needs a great deal of experimenting and solid determination to carry through with a program, often for many years. As you can see, there is no simple way for completely avoiding health-related suffering. We can only choose in which way we want to suffer, or not. To achieve better health we can choose to stop eating some of our favourite foods and willingly endure some unpleasant healing crises, or we can expect to suffer involuntarily and in an uncontrolled way from chronic-degenerative diseases as we get older. The choice is ours… Step 2 INTESTINAL SANITATION Clean Out & Sanitize Your Gastro-Intestinal Tract Many diseases tend to start in the bowels and that is where holistic healing should start as well. It is not possible to become healthy when we are constipated and our intestines are full of putrefying wastes and overgrown with harmful microbes. This environment allows toxins to be re-absorbed into the blood and pathogenic microbes to demolish our immune system and invade various parts of the body. To sanitize our digestive tract we need first to clean out the bowels and remove years of accumulated wastes stagnating in bowel pockets, and covering the intestinal walls with hard crusts. Such cleansing kills most of the harmful microbes and repopulates the gastro-intestinal tract with probiotic bacteria. Finally we avoid being constipated ever again. BOWEL CLEANSING Commonly used methods to clean out accumulated wastes are colonics, flushes and laxative foods. The term Colonic is short for colonic irrigation. The objective is to fill the large bowels repeatedly with as much water as possible. The more serious the condition, the more often should colonics be used - once a week at first, but sometimes even daily as with advanced cancer or if there is much foul-smelling wind or diverticulitis. The aim of colonics is to remove all putrefying matter from the bowels, clean out the bowel pockets and remove the hard crusts that often coat the bowel walls. In order to achieve this, the bowels should be filled repeatedly with as much water as possible. Have a bowel movement before starting the colonic. To administer a colonic, add 1 heaped teaspoon of salt and 1 level teaspoon of baking soda to 2-3 litres of moderately warm water. Use a bucket enema or enema bag. To avoid mess perform this exercise in a shower recess. Hang the enema bucket about two to three feet above the body on a hook or convenient place on the wall. A good position is to kneel on the floor with the head down and rectum elevated. Or you may lie in bed in a similar position or on the right side; use a plastic sheet underneath. Lubricate the rectal tube and insert it slowly up to a depth of about 20 – 30 cm. If there is any pain or discomfort, do not insert any further. Expel the first lot of water when increasing pressure is felt. After that, you should be able to hold much more water. When renewed pressure is felt, stop the inflow of water and assume different positions, especially lying on the right side for a while to fill the ascending colon. Repeat the expulsion and intake of water until all of it has been used. The addition of baking soda neutralizes over-acid bowel conditions while the salt acts as a drawing agent and prevents demineralization of the blood. This is important for people with low blood pressure and a poor circulation. With high blood pressure or weak kidneys add very diluted lemon juice instead. A few drops of Lugol’s solution help to expel excess mucus. If unable to do colonics at home,
you may have a series of colonics at a hydrotherapy centre. Flushes: A large glass of water with a tablespoon of Epsom salts (Magnesium sulphate) or Glauber salts (sodium sulphate) on an empty stomach is usually sufficient to flush out the intestinal tract. Drink more water afterwards. Less strong, and only suitable if one is not constipated, is an isotonic flush: dissolve 9g or a heaped teaspoon of salt in one litre of warm water. Drink within 5 to 10 minutes on an empty stomach but no additional liquid afterwards. Flushes may be alternated with colonics. Laxative Food: Aim to have two or three easy bowel movements daily. Use laxative food as required, such as freshly fermented food, ground linseed, prunes, psyllium hulls, or drink large amounts of water within short periods. Our bowel bacteria need the right amount of food, mainly fibre and sugars from fresh vegetables and fruit, to produce low-level fermentation. Too little of it is constipating, too much causes diarrhea. Highly recommended is ground linseed added to meals (one or more tablespoons) and psyllium hulls: stir a heaped teaspoon in a large glass of water and drink immediately about 30 minutes before a meal, one to three times daily. Drink more water afterwards. If there is not enough water it becomes constipating. Use linseed freshly ground in a blender or coffee grinder, and store frozen or refrigerated. Squatting: Ordinary toilets encourage a sitting rather than a squatting position. This is not conducive to complete emptying of the lower bowels and a cause of various health problems, such as hemorrhoids. A squatting position is preferable to keep you bowels healthy. To achieve this, you may support your feet with a footstool and in addition bend forward to exert more pressure on the bowels. GARLIC AND PROBIOTICS Presently most individuals, especially if they have used antibiotics and various other medical drugs, have intestinal overgrowth with Candida and other pathogenic microbes. This causes or contributes to a wide range of diseases. To re-establish the beneficial intestinal flora it is preferable to eliminate most of the harmful bacteria and fungi beforehand. Before breakfast take a clove of crushed garlic with a tablespoon of Epsom salts in a glass of water, and drink more water or herb tea afterwards. If you are constipated and the Epsom saltsgarlic flush does not empty your bowels within a few hours, then take another tablespoon of Epsom salts with water, or use another strong laxative, otherwise the dead microbes may cause headaches, nausea and other discomfort. If you have difficulty drinking the dissolved Epsom salts, use very cold water. One to two hours afterwards, but before eating or drinking anything other than water or non-sweetened tea, take several high-potency capsules. Each of these should provide 10 billion or more beneficial lacto-bacilli, especially acidophilus and bifido bacteria. For 2 to 3 weeks continue taking one or more capsules before all meals. If Candida has been a major problem, then repeat the Epsom salts-garlic flush several times on subsequent days, as long as required. Instead of probiotic capsules you may also take powder of equal strength, or you may use a cupful of fresh acidophilusbifido yogurt. If you are not able to use the Epsom salts-garlic flush then you may try an isotonic flush or use senna or another laxative, and instead of garlic try wormwood, pau d’arco, hydrogen peroxide (1 tsp 3% in a glass of water), or put crushed garlic in empty gelatine capsules. To remain free of re-infestation have a course of probiotics once or twice a year. HYDROCHLORIC ACID In the elderly and especially those with chronic degenerative diseases, often even young asthmatics, the body frequently loses its ability to produce an adequate amount of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. This leads to incomplete digestion of proteins, and poor absorption of vitamins B1 and B12 as well as minerals. The resulting mineral deficiency usually causes fingernails to be soft; also the hair may be unhealthy. Hydrochloric acid is also needed to activate pepsin and kill
microbes in food. A lack of hydrochloric acid may cause overgrowth of the digestive tract with harmful microbes causing malabsorption, intestinal distress, allergies, and a weak immune system. Related symptoms are belching, anemia, and discomfort after eating, or food lying heavily in the stomach. As a digestive aid add lemon juice (e.g. from half a lemon) or a tablespoon of cider vinegar, and in addition up to half a level teaspoon of dissolved magnesium chloride to cooked meals, especially to protein meals. Magnesium chloride reacts with organic acids to form magnesium citrate or acetate and hydrochloric acid. Also drinking half a cup of bitter herb tea before or after meals can stimulate digestive juices. Alternatively, you may either use hydrochloric acid-pepsin tablets or, more cheaply, diluted hydrochloric acid. To make a 2% solution that is safe to use, mix 1 part of 20% acid with 9 parts, or 1 part of concentrated 35% acid with 16 parts of water. You may then dilute 1-2 (plastic) teaspoons of 2% acid with ½ cup of liquid and drink it after the meal. You may protect your teeth by drinking through a straw and rinsing thoroughly afterwards. However, habitually taking acids makes the body over-acid, while not enough sodium bicarbonate is available to neutralize the acid in the duodenum. While the stomach content needs to be acid, the small intestine needs to be alkaline otherwise nutrients are not properly absorbed. Therefore, when using hydrochloric acid with a meal, take also half a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in liquid 2 hours after a small meal, and about 3 hours after a large meal with flesh food or other proteins. Step 3 FASTING AND CLEANSING Cleaning Out the Rest of Your Body Fasting is a period of restricted food intake, and cleansing is the removal of waste products from the body as a result of fasting or special procedures. The combination of fasting and cleansing is a very effective healing method. It helps in overcoming chronic diseases and rejuvenating an aging body. It also ensures continued health and minimizes the risk of a disabling disease later in life. Unfortunately, fasting can be rather unpleasant, especially for beginners. It releases stored toxins and waste products from organs and tissues. This may temporarily overload the blood, causing headaches and nausea. To minimize unpleasant effects, start with short fasts, activate the liver and kidneys and keep the bowels working. Do not fast if underweight, very weak or very sick. In this case improve your health by gradually adopting the High-Quality Diet in Step 9. Just by fasting alone many chronic diseases can be healed. For someone on a cooked diet a period on raw foods is a fast or cleansing period. The cleansing effect is made even stronger by restricting the diet to one food item such as apples or vegetable juice or just water. Start with several one-day fasts, possibly once a week, before trying a three-day fast. Then have a three-day fast once a month; if on normal working hours have the first fast day on a Friday. The second day often feels the worst. Once or twice a year you may fast for seven days or longer. Instead of a series of strict fasts you may have longer periods on a raw-food diet, and a strict fast only occasionally. With chronic diseases the need for cleansing obviously is much greater than just for general health improvement. After a year or two, or on return to good health, the number of cleansing periods may be reduced to once a year except if much processed food is used. Also start a mild fast with the onset of a cold, flu or other infectious disease. The more often you fast, the less you are negatively affected by it; a sense of
peace and well-being may develop instead. If during a fast the tongue is still strongly coated and the breath has a strong odour on rising in the morning, then this shows that you are still congested. Conversely, if breath and tongue are clear in the morning then the body is reasonably clean and no more fasting is indicated. Scrape or brush the tongue clean whenever it is coated, e.g. using a sharp-edged spoon. For several days before a longer fast start already reducing the amount of food, and preferably do not eat flesh food or processed food on the last day before a fast. Best have only raw fruit and vegetables on that last day. Likewise, increase the amount of food only gradually after a fast and have only raw food on the first day after a fast. The longer the fast the less you may eat at the first meal, and the longer it should take to return to the usual diet. An apple is good for breaking a juice or water fast. When going on a fast it is advisable to drink plenty of liquids, and every morning use a colonic or laxative. Use a tablespoonful of Epsom salts in water or herbal laxative. Alternatively take psyllium in water as described in Step 2. Take it easy during fasts, rest whenever you feel weak, or just stay in bed if necessary. Skin brushing, deep breathing exercises, mild sun exposure, drinking a lot of peppermint tea, pleasant outdoor activity and frequent showers are helpful to minimize unpleasant symptoms. To increase the cleansing action during a fast have some light physical activity, walking or gently bouncing on a rebounder or better a “lymphasizer”’. This speeds up the lymph flow to many times its normal rate. Massage is helpful. Also try inverting the body - e.g. hanging upside down, using a slant-board, or bicycling in the inverted position. Castor Oil Pack: The effectiveness of the fast can be further increased by using a hot castor-oil pack for about three days before and during the fast. Coat the liver area (the bottom of the right ribcage) and upper abdomen with castor oil, cover with a woollen cloth folded in several layers and keep warm for an hour or two with a hot-water bottle. At bedtime take 2 tablespoons of olive oil shaken in a jar with lecithin and fresh orange or lemon juice. The next morning take sufficient laxative to produce a good cleanout within a few hours. The castor oil stimulates the liver's capacity to detoxify, the olive oil induces the gall bladder to empty and expel fat-soluble toxins from the liver while the laxative removes the poisons quickly from the bowels. This method of cleansing causes a minimum of discomfort that might otherwise result in headaches, nausea and weakness. Liver Cleanse: An excellent liver cleanse, which also may remove gallstones, is a three-day apple fast with a castor oil pack and half a cup of olive oil on the last evening, and Epsom salts the next morning. For details see the Basic Cleanse below. In a short version, you may just have one apple day with castor oil pack and olive oil in the evening. There are also other versions in which you may take various liver herbs, and up to four times one tablespoon of Epsom salts. THE BASIC CLEANSE This 8-day basic cleanse is designed to clean out and sanitize the gastrointestinal tract, the liver and the gall bladder. Eat apples (preferably organic) only for the first three days, as many as you like. Granny Smith or other tart apples are preferable but if they are too acid for you then use a sweeter variety. In the evening have a hot castor oil pack on the liver and upper abdomen, and a tablespoon or two of olive oil at bedtime. On the evening of the third day take half a cupful of olive oil in this way. Then lie down immediately on your back or right side. After the first bowel movement the next morning look in the toilet bowl for gallstones. There may be hundreds of little greenish wax balls of different sizes floating on top of the water. However, if the stones are further back in the liver, they may only come out with the second or third cleanse. First thing in the morning of the second to fourth day take a glass of water with
a crushed clove of garlic and Epsom salts as described in Step 2. About one hour later take a large dose of acidophilus-bifidus culture as high-potency capsules, powder or self-made yogurt. If you do not have the time or energy for the full cleanse, then you may now return to your normal diet and do the rest at another time. Otherwise, from day four to day eight replace the apples with freshly pressed vegetable juices, possibly flavoured with apple or other fruit, drink very slowly; stop using the Epsom salts and garlic in the morning. Every 3 hours, or 5 times daily, take a heaped teaspoon of psyllium hulls together with 2-3 teaspoons of ground linseed in a large glass of water, drink immediately followed by more water. Preferably take lecithin granules and digestive enzymes together with the juices. With every glassful of juice you may take 2 or 3 enzyme tablets such as pancreatin, bromelain or mixed enzymes. On the morning after the last juice day and possibly at bedtime the night before take a tablespoon of Epsom salts in water or enough laxative to produce a strong bowel cleanout during the morning. You may sit on a bucket to investigate what has come out; often there are long strings and parts of compacted matter looking like sections of bowel. It is advisable to increase the variety of food very gradually while doing allergy testing at the same time. There are many possible variations of this Basic Cleanse. For instance if you do not have a juice extractor, you may either continue longer with apples or have small raw salads instead. If you cannot get organic apples but have plenty of good grass and vegetables for juicing then you may extend the juice schedule from 5 to 8 days but also have the castor oil packs, olive oil, garlic, Epsom salts and acidophilus during the first 3 or 4 days. Another possibility, especially good for those with raised blood pressure, is to use freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of vegetable juice, and possibly instead of the apple days as well. Use psyllium hulls and ground linseed as for the last 5 days of the Basic Cleanse but instead of vegetable juices, drink the juice of 5 to 8 lemons diluted to 3 or 4 litres with pure water. You may do this for the full 8 days or just instead of the vegetable juice for the last 5 days. If doing this for the full 8 days, then use castor oil packs, olive oil, Epsom salts, garlic and acidophilus as described for the apples days. You may sweeten the diluted lemon juice with a small amount of raw honey or maple syrup. An often-used additive is Bentonite, finely powdered absorbent clay. This helps to remove plaque or old coating from colon walls and also absorbs toxins. Each time you use ground linseed and psyllium add one teaspoonful of powdered or one tablespoonful of liquid Bentonite. DIFFERENT CLEANSING METHODS Except for very sensitive individuals, I recommend apples for the first three-day fast. Preferably obtain unsprayed apples, otherwise either peel, or scrub in warm soapy water and rinse well. Do not ingest waxed skins. Eat as many apples as you like, generally the more the better to keep the bowels moving. Apple fasts are usually well tolerated and are also suitable for children. Fasting on freshly pressed vegetable juices is somewhat more severe but generally well tolerated. Preferably use plenty of green juice made from grass, leaves and celery, flavoured with sweet vegetables such as carrot, beetroot or pumpkin and possibly apple and ginger. This may be diluted with water for a total fluid intake of 2 - 3 litres daily. If rather sensitive, minimize the amount of sweet juices. For all conditions it is beneficial to use green protein powders during the cleanse: spirulina, barley or wheat grass powder, and possibly chlorella powder (best cell wall broken varieties) and bee pollen. Use these with suitable fluids alone or in addition to any of the other cleansing foods or juices. For very sensitive, weak and underweight individuals a rice diet of 10 or more days may be better. Initially, eat only cooked brown rice, lightly flavoured with salt and olive oil and preferably 1 to 3 tablespoons per meal of unheated ground linseed. Use sufficient linseed to have three easy, bulky bowel movements daily.
You do not need to eat proper meals, just have a few spoonfuls whenever you feel hungry, and chew very slowly. After several days you may also add cooked vegetables. Preferably follow the rice diet with a short period of eating raw food only. If brown rice is not tolerated, then try white rice. If you are sensitive and also have blood sugar problems (hypoglycemia or diabetes) then use cooked lentils instead of rice. For insensitive individuals a three-day lemon-juice fast is excellent, especially good for improving liver functions. It is also recommended for overweight, high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems and diabetes. It helps to clean the liver and arteries of fatty deposits. About 10 times during the day drink a large glass of water with the addition of the fresh juice of up to half a lemon. You may flavour this with a small amount of fresh grapefruit or orange juice. Later you may extend this fast to seven days. The 'grape cure' is well known as a cancer cure but it is also good for coronary artery disease and other chronic diseases. You eat about 1kg of grapes spaced out during the day to avoid any strong rise in the blood sugar level. Sensitive individuals may use additional alkalizer if the grapes cause acidity. Continue for up to six weeks. Black grapes are best, otherwise purple or red. Unfortunately it is difficult to obtain unsprayed grapes. If you have to use sprayed grapes wash them thoroughly in warm soapy water and rinse well. If you are sensitive to moulds also soak them in diluted hydrogen peroxide or expose to sunlight and a last rinse before eating. For a longer cleansing period a mixed fast may be used. You may, for instance, start with several days on a rice and vegetable diet, followed by a raw food period, some days on apples or grapes, and a further period on juices. Then you repeat this sequence in reverse order with days of eating only fruit, raw food and finally rice and vegetables before returning to your normal diet. The whole cleansing period may last for several weeks or even months with repeated sequences. Unless you have an acute infectious disease, do not start a strict fast when you feel weak. In this case you may alternate between a rice and vegetable diet and a raw-food diet. With acute infections have mainly fresh fruit, salads, broths and vegetable juice until health improves and good appetite returns. In addition ensure at least one daily bowel clean-out by using an Epsom Salts-garlic flush, colonic, enema or laxatives. If you suspect that your body is overloaded with chemicals or that the ability of your liver to detoxify is reduced, have only mild fasts initially such as the rice diet and raw-food diet. Also supply plenty of sulphur from onions, raw egg yolk, MSM, and possibly the amino acids cysteine and methionine. Regular cleansing becomes more important the older and physically less active we become. The Oil Rinse: Fat-soluble toxins may already be removed before they reach the liver. First thing in the morning take a large sip of a light oil, such as sunflower oil or grape seed oil (stored in glass bottles) and vigorously swish it around the mouth for ten to twenty minutes, then spit it out (be careful, it may clog the sink). Rinse the mouth several times with warm water. Continue this for several months. This rinse is especially important if the lymph system is congested as it commonly is with cancer and other chronic diseases. It is also useful with health problems in the head and neck area, and dental problems. Distilled Water Rinse: At other times distilled or de-ionized water may be used to filter out water-soluble toxins. On rising and at bedtime use a cupful of distilled water. Take a mouthful and hold it for about two minutes. Then spit it out and repeat the process until the cup is empty. MUCUS PROBLEMS Mucus problems are very common and may manifest as a cold or flu with a congested or running nose, or as congested or inflamed sinuses, and ear or hearing problems including tinnitus and ‘glue ear’ in children, glaucoma, hay fever, throat and lung problems, especially asthma. To overcome these conditions try the following
methods in addition to avoiding lactose, especially from cows’ milk products. For hay fever, nose and sinus problems dissolve a teaspoon of salt with a pinch of Epsom salt in a litre of warm water. Also add a fungicide such as a drop of tea tree oil or a teaspoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Draw this up the nostrils, one at a time, and spit the water out. Another method for clearing the sinuses is to kneel with the head to the floor and make loud snoring and snorting noises at the back of the nose. Spit out mucus; continue for 10 minutes. Try warm castor oil packs over the sinuses, and do head and neck exercise (see Step 8). Have any amalgam fillings or dead teeth removed. Avoid moulds and use anti-fungal therapy. The Sugar Cure: Keep a teaspoon of fine sugar in the mouth until it is dissolved, then spit out and take another teaspoonful. Continue with this for one or two hours, and repeat on subsequent days or weeks as required. The sugar draws mucus dissolved in lymph fluid from the lymph glands and so gradually clears the headspaces. It can stop a cold within hours. Neti is an effective yoga method for rinsing the sinuses. Neti pots are available at most Yoga centres, but you can use a coffee or teapot with a fine spout instead, or even some douche equipment. Fill the pot with mildly warm and lightly salted water. Bend low over a sink with the head turned to the side; insert the spout of the neti pot into the upper nostril and let the water flow out. It will rinse the sinuses and flow out from the lower nostril. After half the water is used up, turn the head and let the water flow into the other nostril. Finally close one nostril at a time and strongly blow out air to expel any water remaining in the sinuses. Patting the back is helpful with infections and congestions of the lungs, especially with asthma and cystic fibrosis. Lie face down over a chair, or over the edge of a bed or couch with the head to the floor. Have a helper vigorously pat the back with flat hands while you try to cough up and spit out loosened phlegm. It may help to take some iodine beforehand, such as Lugol’s Solution or internal iodine solution in a drink. This tends to make the mucus thinner or more liquid and therefore easier to expel. Step 4 ALLERGY TESTING Overcome your Food Allergies & Chemical Sensitivities It is common for many of us to fall into the trap of becoming addicted to any daily-used food or substance to which we are also allergic and vice versa. Initially when we eat allergenic food we experience stimulation due to the release of adrenal stress hormones. This stimulation (adrenalin) causes us to constantly crave these foods to which we soon become unsuspectingly addicted. However, eventually the adrenal glands become exhausted and we develop a chronic degenerative disease and lack of energy. In this book, the term 'food allergy' includes not only genuine immunological reactions, but also food intolerances and chemical sensitivities. THE ALLERGY-STRESS MECHANISM An environmental challenge such as an incompatible food or emotional stress initially causes an ALARM REACTION. The adrenal glands release inflammatory hormones and the sympathetic nervous system is over-stimulated. This may result in an acute allergic reaction or a general inflammatory condition, hyperexcitability, increased blood pressure, palpitations, aggressiveness, short attention span (ADD), anxiety or anger and poor digestion. This is the basis for the demonstrated connection between junk food and anti-social or criminal behaviour. If we continue eating the same problem food nearly every day or continue to be plagued by stressful memories or conditions, then the stress becomes a permanent
fixture and the body adapts by releasing anti-inflammatory hormones. At this stage noticeable symptoms of the alarm reaction with its inflammatory tendency subside. This is the RESISTANCE PHASE, a state of adaptation with a hidden or masked allergy. Commonly the alarm reaction occurs in early childhood when we are first introduced to wheat or cows' milk, maize or soymilk, or other reactive foods, and then settles down to several decades of hidden allergies with minimal symptoms. However, eventually the capacity of the adrenal glands to produce sufficient antiinflammatory hormones becomes exhausted and we enter the EXHAUSTION PHASE. Now we have a ‘maladaptation’ to allergens and emotional stress with chronic and generalized inflammations. These may manifest as arthritis, cancer, heart disease and any of the other diseases typical in our society. Finally even this chronic inflammatory condition subsides and we have the stage of advanced old age with senility, debility and the final insensitive stages of degenerative diseases. This shows us the requirements for genuine health improvement. By permanently removing the offending problem food or emotional stress, and at the same time supporting the body with high-quality nutrition, we slowly begin climbing back. We leave the exhaustion phase and re-enter the resistance phase with a period of quiet recovery and finally move back into the alarm phase with a series of acute healing crises. At the end of this long healing process we may have re-acquired the adrenal functions and disease-resistance that we had as a healthy child before we started getting colds, allergic reactions and digestive upsets due to problem foods. Hans Selye was a professor of experimental medicine and surgery when he found this stress mechanism in 1936. His pioneering book is called The Stress of Life (McGraw-Hill). So far the medical profession has not yet grasped the importance of his fundamental discovery for understanding the diseases of our society, I assume because it is not profitable to do so. However, we know now what we need to do to heal ourselves. Sometimes energetic individuals, often males with blue-white irises who cannot relax, experience a prolonged period of lethargy when avoiding wheat or gluten products. During this time the adrenal glands have time to recover. Others who are already closer to adrenal exhaustion feel much stronger as soon as they avoid allergenic food. Addictions and allergies are part of the stress syndrome. Prolonged severe stress of any kind leads to adrenal exhaustion in the same way as an addictive allergy. The only real solution lies in avoiding chronic stress factors such as allergenic food, work pressures and so forth. Discovering your allergies and addictions is an essential step in your healing process. You may do this by adopting a five-day low-allergy diet as described in the following. After complete avoidance of an allergenic food and while reducing the overall allergenic load from other influences at the same time, one usually becomes hypersensitive to that food for a period lasting from a few weeks to several months. After this, the sensitivity to the offending food gradually declines. If during the hypersensitive period you are occasionally exposed to the allergenic food, then an immediate strong reaction may be triggered resulting in pain, weakness, a rash or whatever its characteristic effect is on your body. If this is done repeatedly but separated by at least four days between exposures, this may delay the complete recovery but is not likely to result in serious internal damage. However, such permanent damage will result if you use this food so frequently that you do not get an immediate reaction any more or only a much weaker reaction than initially. Generally it is essential to avoid the offending food as much as possible for an extended period in order to heal yourself completely. Depending on the severity of your initial symptoms or degenerative disease this may be from a few months up to several years. How soon you overcome your allergic tendencies depends mainly on the overall effort that you put into a comprehensive
health improvement program. TYPES OF ALLERGY Depending on its severity and mode of manifestation, we may distinguish between four types of allergy: addictive, cyclic, fixed, and multiple allergies. An addictive allergy induces us to eat our favourite food every day or we are threatened with withdrawal symptoms. Therefore, we have a craving for a certain food and eating or drinking it makes us feel better. The user usually is not aware of his or her addiction and for this reason this type of allergy is also called hidden or masked allergy, corresponding to the period of adaptation. In a cyclic allergy we have a reaction to a specific food only if it is eaten in excess, by eating large quantities of it at any one time, or by eating it on several successive days. In addition, a reaction to a cyclic allergen may be triggered by other adverse factors, especially by stress as from emotional and mental problems, or from environmental agents such as fumes, tobacco smoke, and so on. Combining two different cyclic allergens in the same meal may also cause a reaction due to the joint effects of both. Poor food combining or a generally acid body condition may be further contributing factors. If you realize that you have a cyclic allergy - the food agrees with you sometimes but not always - then eat it only on a rotation basis, not more often than once every four or five days. Fruits and the lactose content of dairy products often belong to this category. They may not cause immediate reactions, but eating fruits on successive days may cause an increasing degree of over-acidity and skin problems in sensitive individuals, while too much lactose may lead to a build-up of mucus. Both in turn, can trigger secondary symptoms such as arthritis. With a fixed allergy one reacts every time the offending food is eaten, no matter how small the quantity. These reactions can trigger diarrhea, urticaria, or even severe anaphylactic shock or death. Fixed allergies, therefore, are non-adapted allergies and thus easy to recognize. One soon learns to avoid offending items, e.g. nuts, eggs or shellfish. Fortunately, only a small percentage of all allergies are of the fixed variety, most of them are addictive or cyclic in nature. With multiple allergies we react to a wide range of foods and chemicals and quickly become allergic to any replacement foods. This is sometimes called 'being allergic to the twentieth century'. The main causes may be deficiencies of zinc, digestive enzymes and gastric acid, weak liver functions and bacterial overgrowth of the digestive tract, often with systemic Candida infestation. The solution is intestinal sanitation, a raw-food diet and a high intake of zinc and sulphur compounds. Before testing for allergies by elimination sanitize the intestines and correct indicated deficiencies by using multi-vitamins and minerals. We may also speak of a trigger allergy. Attacks of asthma or hay fever are often triggered by inhaled substances such as pollen or house dust containing dustmites. However, such reactions would not occur if the mucous membranes were not already hypersensitive because of underlying food allergies, mucus congestion and antioxidant deficiencies. In a similar way food chemicals may act as triggers for hyperactivity if the blood-sugar regulation is weak. A hypersensitive skin reacts very strongly to insect bites because of its high histamine levels due to underlying food allergy and over acidity. Removing the triggers will help to some degree but the underlying health deterioration continues and a new trigger may readily be adopted. ELIMINATION TESTING There are various forms of allergy testing, some more technical, others a simple skin scratch method, muscle testing or pulse testing; none of these, however, is as reliable as proper elimination testing, sometimes also called the elimination diet. For five days or longer you abstain from all commonly eaten food. During this time, try to minimize any other possible allergic influences such as solvents, or
car exhaust fumes, house dust, moulds, gas, or cigarette smoke. Basically avoid anything with strong or unusual smells. Starting on the second day there may be more or less troublesome withdrawal symptoms with cravings for the food or stimulant to which one is addicted, be it alcohol, nicotine or other drugs. There may be headaches, dizziness, weakness and other problems. On the fourth day these symptoms usually subside and one begins to feel much better. Often symptoms of long-standing ailments such as arthritis, heart disease or schizophrenia may disappear or improve as well. If you do not feel right by the fifth day, it may be better to extend the fast until you improve. Chemicals and drugs whether medical or recreational, take much longer to clear from the body. It will greatly lessen discomfort during the fast if you take a strong laxative on the first morning of the fast as described in Step 2. In addition drink a lot of water or diluted herb tea. The most reliable fast is on pure water only (not chlorinated or fluoridated). Less strict you may use herb teas, cooked vegetables and/or rice, flavoured only with olive oil, herbs and salt. If you fast on fluids, use a laxative on each morning of the fast. Most recommended is elimination testing directly after the Basic Cleanse. After the Basic Cleanse or on the morning of day six, have your first test meal. Preferably use only white rice with olive oil and salt to establish the normal pulse rate. Check your pulse for a full minute before, and 30 and 60 minutes after the meal. Always test sitting in the same position, and when the pulse rate is not increased from any previous activity. Then have several smaller test meals of different foods during the day. In the beginning, test mainly foods that you expect to be safe. Test suspected allergenic foods at the last meal of the day so that you can sleep off any prolonged reactions. Use suspect foods only individually or with previously tested nonreactive foods. Before and after each test meal make the pulse tests and any other relevant tests. If the pulse rate increases by 10% or more after the meal, then this indicates an allergy; the greater the increase, the stronger the allergy. If there is a reaction involving a combination of newly tested foods, then repeat testing the individual foods at a later time. In addition make other tests relevant to your condition. For example, with weak eyesight check your reading ability using a wall chart; school children may be tested for clarity of writing and speech. Check the range and pain level of impaired joints or muscles, and watch out for any sign of bodily or emotional discomfort. Keep a detailed diary of the pulse rates, measurements and any unusual happenings, feelings, discomfort and so on. Those with diabetes should also test their blood-sugar level, and those with hypertension check their blood pressure (you can easily buy a sphygmomanometer). Usually urine and saliva become more acid after a reaction. You may stop a strong reaction by taking 1 level teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) or better, 2 parts of baking soda with 1 part of potassium bicarbonate. On a normal diet reactions may be delayed and manifest up to two days later. In addition, if you have a strong reaction it may help to dilute the suspected allergen 1:100 with water. Then clean the mouth and put a few drops of this mixture under the tongue. If this does not help within minutes, dilute further in steps of 1:100 and repeat the process. Test offending foods again after three to six months. Commonly small infrequent amounts are then tolerated. Eat suspect or problem foods not more than once a week. If conditions deteriorate again, test again or adopt a safe low-allergy diet. The body is less sensitive to allergic reactions when using alkalizers and digestive enzymes. Step 5
THE ACID - ALKALINE BALANCE Bring your Body Back into Balance Our blood is slightly alkaline, and the body makes every effort to maintain this alkalinity at a constant level. For this purpose we normally have an ample reserve of alkaline minerals. Most of our food supplies minerals. The total balance of minerals in a particular food may be either acid or alkaline. Mineral salts are composed of an acid group (anion), such as chloride or phosphate, and an alkaline group (cation), mainly metal ions such as sodium, calcium, magnesium or potassium. If one of these groups is stronger, then on balance the salt is either acid or alkaline. In plants strongly alkaline metal ions are combined with weak organic acids. A surplus of organic acids will make the food taste acid, as in fruits. However, in the body all organic acids are usually oxidized. In the end this leaves an alkaline residue. Therefore, we say vegetables and fruits are alkalizing or alkaline-forming. An exception are individuals who are over-acid because of allergies or a weak glucose metabolism. They need to neutralize free organic acids to avoid becoming even more acid. Animal tissue, on the other hand, contains a high percentage of strongly acid phosphoric acid bound to mildly alkaline proteins and other biochemicals. The organic compounds in food of animal origin will be oxidized and a strongly acid residue remains. Accordingly, we may classify our food as either alkaline-forming or as acid-forming. • Alkaline-forming Foods are sprouted seeds, vegetables and their juices, fruits, almonds, most legumes, the outer parts of potatoes, bananas, millet, buckwheat and brown rice. • Acid-forming Foods are meat, fish, eggs, cheese, most grains and nuts (being high in phosphoric acid), and the core of potatoes. • Neutral Foods are refined starches and sugar, fats and oils. In order to maintain an ample alkaline body reserve, we may eat approximately four times the weight of alkaline-forming food compared to acid-forming food, or 80% alkalizing to 20% acidifying food. There are food tables available to show the amount of acid or alkaline equivalents in different foods. However, these are practically useless as some foods change their values in the body due to metabolic problems. Sugar, which is chemically neutral, and even alkalizing fruits become acid-forming in sensitive individuals due to the formation of lactic acid. The same applies to any food to which you are allergic. On the other hand, habitual meat eating can lead to an over alkaline condition as explained below by slowing down the metabolism and creating a deficiency of metabolic acids. Even the same food may change from being alkaline-forming to acid-forming if it is incorrectly combined with other foods, or when you are emotionally upset. While seeds will commonly be alkalizing if sprouted or fermented, when cooked, minerals may not be available as they remain bound to phytates, and then may be acid-forming. All of this is contrary to what you would expect by using acid-alkaline food tables. Furthermore, the values in these tables reflect the mineral content of the food but this varies greatly depending on soil and storage conditions, production methods and cooking. Therefore, the only reliable and meaningful method is to observe your own body, your skin sensitivity, tendency towards inflammations, allergic reactions, and possibly test your urine and saliva acidity. ACIDITY PROBLEMS The main reason why people become over-acid is overproduction of lactic acid due to: 1. Inefficient metabolism 2. Stress: food allergy, chemical sensitivity or emotional upset 3. Eating too much sweet food 4. Acids accumulating after eating fruits
5. Strenuous muscle activity 6. Candida problems Chronic over-acidity causes a continual loss of minerals needed to neutralize excess acid. This makes the body hypersensitive to pain and outside influences, and the metabolism becomes inefficient. The more acid the body becomes the more histamine is released. This means acidity causes and greatly increases inflammations and allergies; it also makes the skin very sensitive to insect bites and other irritants. Most degenerative diseases are associated with over-acidity and chronic inflammation. Over-acidity is on the one hand a cause and on the other hand an effect of a poor blood-sugar metabolism, as in diabetes and hypoglycemia. Normally glucose is oxidized to neutral carbon dioxide and water, while in these conditions acids accumulate. Over-acidity causes the pain so prominent in arthritis and rheumatism. If the alkaline reserve is insufficient to neutralize these acids, calcium will be mobilized from the bones causing them to become brittle (osteoporosis), and tissues and joints to calcify. Furthermore, tumours grow only if the surrounding tissue is too acid. Because of this incomplete oxidation, sugars and fruits are highly acid forming in mineral-deficient bodies. It is similar with lactose. If this cannot be properly utilized it forms mucic acid that causes mucus congestions as well as pain. Other foods such as refined starches and wheat products often form mucus and acids because of only partial oxidation. Also incorrect food combinations or even disturbed emotions can cause normally alkaline-forming foods to become acid forming. Basically, this shows us the vicious circle - or downward spiral - in which many diseased individuals are caught: Because the food lacks sufficient alkalizing minerals, the metabolism becomes inefficient, and organic acids accumulate in the body. These acids require additional alkaline reserves for neutralization and cause the metabolism to become even more inadequate. This in turn produces more acids and so forth. ALKALIZING THE BODY Strongly alkalizing foods are spirulina, barley and wheat grass, fresh green vegetable juice and vegetable broth, e.g. the broth of boiled potato peelings. Those who are over-acid become even more so with cider vinegar and other fruit acids. However, dissolving dolomite or eggshell powder in vinegar or lemon juice until nearly neutral produces a highly alkalizing remedy. Alternatively, baking soda or potassium bicarbonate may be used to neutralize acid fruit juices and alkalize the body. On the other hand for those with raised blood pressure and insensitive skin, acid fruits and their juices are excellent. Body acidity increases when using large amounts of Vitamin C as ascorbic acid. This can lead to inflammation, increased pain and other problems in susceptible people (over-acid/low-calcium type). Therefore, it is advisable to use either the neutral sodium or calcium ascorbate, or neutralize ascorbic acid with a suitable alkalizer. If, on the other hand, you are too alkaline, then use ascorbic acid unneutralized or only partly neutralized as with potassium bicarbonate, milk of magnesia or magnesium oxide to dissolve calcium deposits and stone formations. During acute allergic reactions it is advisable to alkalize the body quickly. Repeatedly take a teaspoonful of baking soda with plenty of water, best before breakfast or during the reaction. However, it should be stressed that the best alkalizing food cannot bring lasting improvement if one continues to eat food to which one is allergic or sensitive, or with too much sweet food and acid fruit. BODY TOO ALKALINE With an insensitive body the metabolism is too alkaline. ‘Insensitive’ means that histamine levels are low, the skin is insensitive to irritants, pain and
inflammations are suppressed, and emotional reactions are weak. This is common in old age, and is associated with potassium deficiency, calcium deposits, arthritic deformations and kidney stones. It may also result from a weak liver in combination with a high meat diet. Normally urea is formed as the end product of the protein metabolism but this requires additional energy and specific enzymes that are in short supply with a weak liver. Instead, an increasing amount of ammonium salts are formed which make the body too alkaline. In this condition use plenty of acid fruits, ascorbic acid and cider vinegar. THE REGULATION OF BODY ACIDITY "pH" is a measure of acidity based on hydrogen ion concentration in a fluid. A pH of 1 indicates the highest acidity, pH 14 the highest alkalinity, while pH 7 is neutral. The body automatically tries to keep the blood slightly alkaline within a very narrow range of about pH 7.36 and 7.46. In youth our metabolism is often too fast, too many acids are being produced, and the body becomes chronically over-acid. Later in life, however, with decreasing muscle activity and vitality not enough metabolic acids are formed, potassium is lost from the cells, and the metabolism becomes sluggish. With this the body often becomes chronically too alkaline. If the blood is too acid this is called Acidosis and when it becomes too alkaline we speak of Alkalosis. By excreting either more acid or more alkali in the urine, the body tries to maintain a normal blood pH level. In addition, the breathing rate may be changed: increased volume of breathing makes the blood more alkaline by releasing additional carbon dioxide into the air. Decreased breathing, on the other hand, increases the carbon dioxide level in the blood and makes it more acid. The balance in the blood between carbon dioxide and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is the main "buffer system" that keeps the blood pH constant. With an efficient metabolism the pH of the urine depends mainly on the acidalkaline balance of the diet. A diet high in acid-forming foods will naturally produce acid urine. This is not dangerous as such but it is an indicator that the diet is unbalanced, and may in time lead to exhaustion of the alkali body reserve. If the urine is always very alkaline this can lead to stone-formation in the urinary tract, and may indicate a lack of metabolic acids for efficient energy production. Elderly heavy meat eaters often are too alkaline while young vegetarians commonly use too much sweet food, and that makes them too acid. A normal mixed diet containing about 80% of alkalizing and 20% of acidifying foods should give slightly acid morning urine of about pH 6.4, provided the metabolism is reasonably efficient. Urine formed in the body after meals is naturally slightly alkaline as a result of the production of gastric acid. TEST YOUR BODY ACIDITY In order to obtain an indication of the acid-alkaline balance of your body you may occasionally test your first morning urine. In evaluating the result take into account if your present diet in general and the last meal in particular was balanced, acid or alkaline forming. If you test the urine during the day the result may be much more variable because of the alkaline tide after eating. You may obtain test paper from a scientific supply shop, a pharmacist or chemist. Test paper should preferably have a range from about pH 5.5 to pH 7.5. For an approximate test you may also use litmus paper, it turns red with acids and blue when it is alkaline. If there are any digestive difficulties, check the saliva acidity, especially if you do not seem to get sufficient value out of your food. In addition, allergic reactions make the saliva too acid. Before a meal the normal acidity of the saliva is 6.4 -6.7, while 30 - 60 minutes after the meal it should be above 6.8. If the level is below 6.4 before the meal the body may be too acid, and if it remains below 6.8 after the meal then the stomach may not produce enough acid. Instead of pH strips you may use yellow turmeric powder or just plain curry
powder. Dissolve a teaspoon of the powder in half a litre of methylated spirits, shake and allow to settle, producing a yellow solution. Above 6.8 it becomes ruby red. To make your pH test pour some of the yellow solution into a test tube or small drinking glass. Add a few drops of urine or saliva. If it turns ruby red, then what was added had a pH greater than 6.8 (alkaline). If it stays yellow, then the pH is less than 6.8 (acid). ALKALIZING WITH CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM If you want to alkalize the body quickly because of a cold or pain then it is advisable to take half a teaspoon of baking soda with water before several meals. Drink more fluid afterwards. On low sodium diets use potassium bicarbonate or Milk of Magnesia instead. An excellent alkalizer is potassium citrate; also calcium citrate and magnesium citrate are good. Alternatively you may dissolve dolomite powder in vinegar or lemon juice. In the body the organic acid is converted to energy while the mineral remains to alkalize the body. Keep several tablespoonfuls of finely powdered dolomite together with a glassful of vinegar or lemon juice refrigerated in a jar. You may stir or shake the mixture occasionally to speed up the reaction. Drink up to 50 ml of the decanted liquid daily, either before one meal or divided before two meals, best diluted with water or other liquid. This supplies approximately 500 mg of calcium and 300 mg of magnesium. When all the liquid is used up mix a fresh lot of dolomite with vinegar or lemon juice. You may use (organic) apple cider vinegar, or just white vinegar. Alternatively, add a teaspoon of dolomite or eggshell powder to any acid fruit juice (e.g. lemon, orange) and let it react for up to an hour before decanting and drinking. In this way acid fruits are beneficial for sensitive and over-acid individuals who otherwise should avoid or minimize them. Dolomite supplies calcium and magnesium in the desirable ratio of 2 to 1. If you normally use magnesium supplements, then you may use powdered eggshell instead. 50 ml of neutralized vinegar will carry about 800 mg of calcium into the body. Step 6 MICROBES & PARASITES Eliminate Harmful Microbes & Parasites Microbes and parasites have many beneficial functions in our body. That is obvious in the case of valuable or probiotic bacteria, but even so-called harmful microbes can have their benefits. As an example have a look at the cold virus. Many individuals suffer from mucus congestions as a consequence of their chosen diet. The cold virus helps them periodically to expel excess mucus, and so protects them from more serious eye, ear and lung diseases. However, microbes that are otherwise harmless can become dangerous for those with a weak immune system. Therefore, if you are not in good health, it is advisable to use a microbial and parasite elimination program in addition to rebuilding your immune system. A common problem is infestation with the fungus Candida albicans as a consequence of using antibiotics and other drugs. Antibiotics should always be combined with garlic or other fungicides and bacterial cultures such as acidophilus/bifidus. Eliminate harmful intestinal microbes and parasites with Intestinal Sanitation as shown in Step 2. During an acute infection or infectious disease use mainly a light diet with plenty of raw food high in vitamin C. Lung infections also require a high intake of vitamin A, e.g. 10 halibut liver oil capsules daily in divided doses. Next you may consider cleaning the blood, especially if you have systemic Candida, a generalized infection, or any advanced disease. Some common methods are colloidal silver, olive leaf extract, grapefruit seed extract, fresh garlic, bowel tolerance Vitamin C, Lugol’s solution or saturated solution of potassium iodide, an electronic zapper or blood purifier, plus a magnetic pulser to treat tumours
and localized infections in lymph glands or specific organs. It is best to use a wide combination of remedies. In addition to this, sanitize your teeth as shown in Step 7. Fever is a great help in fighting infections by killing heat intolerant germs and strengthening the immune response. Keep it up with hot baths, hot teas and sweating. Very high temperatures may be reduced with cold packs around the calves, cool baths and blue light. If the fever is too concerning seek professional help. Viral infections In addition to the aforementioned general antimicrobial methods also use a high intake of antioxidants, selenium and zinc. Take 5 x 2 g of sodium ascorbate or ascorbic acid, 3 x 15 - 20 mg of zinc, 200 mcg of selenium, up to 3 x 2 g of L-lysine and up to 3 x 200 mg of alpha-lipoic acid. In addition take 1 tablespoon of cod liver oil (emulsified with lecithin and juice) and other Omega-3 fatty acids, possibly also other antioxidants, such as grape seed extract and electrolytically reduced or ionized water. With hepatitis also add silymarin/milk thistle. In life-threatening situations try intra-venous vitamin C in addition to bowel tolerance vitamin C. Bladder infections: Take the simple sugar D-mannose, half to one teaspoon in water every 2 to 3 hours; this eliminates 90% of infections (those based on E-coli) within a few days. If it does not help then take 15 drops of SSKI (see below) in a lot of fluids every 3 to 4 hours for up to several days. Candida: The most common symptoms are thrush (oral or vaginal), itching and skin infections. When invading the blood it devastates the immune system, and causes or aggravates food allergies, auto-immune diseases, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, memory impairment, hyperactivity, menstrual problems, miscarriage, and others. Some common remedies are coconut oil, garlic, pau d'arco, propolis, wormwood, and the oils of tea-tree, neem tree, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, mustard and thyme. Use several of these in high doses until you get results, also use acidophilus as described in Step 2. Avoid sweet foods, fruits, yeasts and moulds. For Candida infestation of the blood also see PARASITES, or use an internal iodine solution or an electronic blood purifier, see below. COMMON REMEDIES Coconut is an all-purpose anti-microbial. The medium-chain saturated fatty acids in coconut oil are potent anti-microbial agents, effective against fungi, including Candida, viruses and many bacteria. The active fatty acids are caprylic acid (with 8 carbon atoms), capric acid (10 carbon atoms) and lauric acid (12 carbon atoms). They work by causing microbial cell walls to disintegrate. Depending on your ability to use fats, take up to 4 tablespoons of coconut oil spread out during the day. After improvement, reduce this to 2 tablespoons for several more weeks. Better than cheap commercial coconut oil is cold-pressed or virgin coconut oil. However, even this is heat-stabilized to destroy lipase. More effective is homemade raw coconut cream or milk: press small coconut pieces through a low-speed juicer, or use a blender with warm water (keep the mix below 50°C), strain and refrigerate. For topical applications and for those with fat malabsorption this lipase-rich coconut milk is much more effective than heated coconut oil with a low concentration of free fatty acids. Alternatively, you may use lipase supplements with coconut oil. Internal Iodine: A saturated solution of potassium iodide (SSKI) is an all-round anti-microbial. You may buy it from a chemist, or make your own by dissolving 15 g of potassium iodide in 10 ml of water. As a precaution when travelling in tropical countries take about 10 drops in a small glass of water, and temporarily more with an acute infection. Caution: High amounts for more than a few weeks can suppress thyroid functions. Alternatively you may try Lugol's solution. This is a mixture of iodine and potassium iodide, also labelled Aqueous Iodine Oral Solution. If a test drop does not cause an allergic reaction, continue to take 4 x 6 drops daily in juice (but
not at the same time as antioxidants). Continue for 3 weeks, but interrupt if you develop a strong reaction. Do not take the iodine for more than 3 weeks as that interferes with thyroid activity. If necessary, repeat the course after several months. Herbs: Commonly used are Echinacea to stimulate the immune system, and Pau d'arco or Taheebo for fungal problems. Others are borage, chamomile, golden seal, marigold, peppermint, prickly ash, and wormwood. Aromatic oils: borneol, clove, eucalyptus, lavender, oregano, tea tree and thyme. Very effective is propolis, a bee product. Aloe vera assists in the treatment of infectious diseases. It is excellent for gastro-intestinal irritation, inflammation and ulcers (Crohn’s Disease). Not all commercial brands are effective. If there is no improvement, try another brand. Take as much as you can tolerate without getting diarrhea. If available, use fresh aloe vera straight from the garden. Avoid yellow leaves and the base of a leaf with its yellow sap, as this is a strong irritant and laxative. Propolis is a natural antibiotic from the beehive. For best results apply it directly to the site of the infection whenever possible. For a sore throat, keep some propolis powder in the mouth (between gum and cheek) and gargle with propolis solution; apply it to a sore tooth; for sinus problems, sniff it up the nose; for earache put it in the ear; for skin infections apply it directly to the skin; for internal infections, of course, you need to swallow it. Some people are allergic to propolis. Colloidal Silver is very effective in killing bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Commonly the strength of the solution is five PPM, or up to 50 PPM in very concentrated remedies. You may use one spoonful three times daily. Continue until any infection subsides, and then continue with one spoonful a day for another week or two. Best keep it in the mouth for some time before swallowing. During critical periods you may double or triple the above amounts. Preferably store colloidal silver in a dark glass bottle, and keep in a dark and cool place. Take colloidal silver only as required to overcome an infection, you may use it again after a rest period of several weeks or months. OXYGEN THERAPY Professional ozone therapy has been used with good results in cancer and AIDS therapy, usually ozonising about 200 ml of blood withdrawn from the patient and then re-infusing it. This method is widely used in Germany and Mexican cancer clinics but illegal in most other western countries. The same applies to hydrogen peroxide infusions. In self-help therapy hydrogen peroxide or stabilized oxygen are commonly used. The latter is an oxygenated chlorine compound that easily gives off oxygen. The usual amount is up to 10 drops in juice several times daily. However, I prefer hydrogen peroxide. A healthy immune system produces hydrogen peroxide to kill microbes. Start taking just a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide in a glass of water. Gradually increase to 1 teaspoon or more, four times daily before meals and at bedtime, always on an empty stomach. If you develop an aversion against it, just decrease again to a more comfortable level. Swallow quickly instead of slowly sipping. To disguise the strong aftertaste, add aloe vera and especially cinnamon. Continue this until the infection subsides, and then gradually reduce the intake. In addition, you may use hydrogen peroxide to rinse your mouth, and gargle morning and evening. It helps to prevent colds and other infections, including tooth decay, and is better than toothpaste. It is also helpful to bathe any tumour or infection site daily in diluted hydrogen peroxide, or use it as a pack (soaked cloth). This is especially good mixed with honey. To stop a developing cold or flu put a few drops of 3% peroxide in each ear canal, first one ear until the bubbling stops, then turn the other side up and insert a few more drops. In addition to gargling with diluted hydrogen peroxide to stop a throat or respiratory infection, you may also put diluted hydrogen peroxide in a spray
bottle and spray some into the mouth while at the same time deeply inhaling. This also helps with asthma. At other times you may spray-inhale a mixture of dissolved sodium ascorbate and ascorbic acid. One teaspoon of 3% peroxide is equivalent to about 10 drops of 35% peroxide. Be careful handling 35% hydrogen peroxide, flush any accidental spills on clothes or skin immediately with water or immerse in water. Healthy body cells or acidophilus bacteria are not normally harmed by oxygen therapy. In fact, acidophilus bacteria produce hydrogen peroxide to destroy fungi. More expensive possibilities are the use of medical-grade air ionisers or ozone generators. ELECTRONIC ZAPPER AND MAGNETIC PULSER There are two basic types of electronic zappers commercially available, the Hulda Clark zapper and the Robert Beck zapper or blood purifier, in addition to newer developments. They help eliminating parasites, bacteria, fungi and viruses from the blood and lymph system with low-voltage pulsed electric currents. The Clark zapper operates with 9 V positive offset current at a high pulse frequency of about 30,000 Hz. The Beck zapper or blood purifier uses 27 to 36 V and a low frequency of about 4 Hz. It appears that the mild electric current prevents microbes from multiplying. The Beck zapper appears to be preferable to clean the blood, while the Clark zapper is useful for treating infection sites by placing an electrode on opposite sides of the problem area. With the Beck zapper the small electrodes are fastened directly over the arteries, where you feel a pulse, on one forearm or near the ankle of a foot. The recommendation is to use it for 2 hours daily to eliminate all or most harmful microbes and parasites, including viruses in the blood within a month or two. Dr Beck also designed a strong magnetic pulser to treat infected lymph glands and other parts of the body with poor blood supply. Use it on areas with suspected inflammation, infection, tumour or pain. Preferably use a pulser with a variable rate and set it fast, up to 10 pulses per second. Pulsers with low magnetic pulse intensity are helpful for other problems but do not appear to inhibit microbes or parasites. For sources to buy a zapper and pulser see my website, the Internet, or ads in alternative journals (e.g. Nexus). PARASITES Examples of common parasites are intestinal worms and protozoa. Malaria and Giardia are protozoa. Most of these parasites can be eliminated with wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), best combined with other herbs. In animal husbandry a high level of copper is used to eliminate parasites, including liver flukes. You may simply take a heaped teaspoon of ground wormwood and quickly wash it down with fruit juice. Alternatively, stir it into a cold liquid and drink something pleasant afterwardsYou may also fill it into capsules. However, it is most beneficial as a bitter tea (1 teaspoon in half a cup of water), which stimulates digestive functions, especially liver and gall bladder. For parasites and Candida you may take one heapedteaspoonful up to three times daily for 4 weeks or until symptoms disappear, and then take it twice a week for several more weeks. Increase the daily intake gradually to reduce any die-off reactions. With long-term problems alternate monthly a high intake of wormwood with high doses of pau d’arco. During any parasite or Candida cure have a high intake of water or diluted liquids to flush out toxic residues. In addition you may use the electronic zapper and magnetic pulser to clear parasites from the blood and lymph system. The commonly used Hulda Clark parasite herbs are tincture of black walnut hulls, wormwood and ground cloves. For details see my website. In addition, avoid propyl alcohol, propanol or isopropanol as in cold cereals, cosmetics, shampoo, lotions and sprays. URINE AND AUTO THERAPY Urine therapy is widely practiced in many cultures, and is amazingly effective with a wide range of different diseases, including infections. Urine contains antibodies and immune stimulating factors against all the microbes in our body.
Researchers state that even minute amounts of antibodies, sometimes so low that they cannot be detected with conventional methods, are effective in preventing and treating diseases. Urine is especially effective against allergies, autoimmune diseases and other disorders of the immune system. To switch off an allergic reaction use urine collected during or after the reaction. Put a few drops of straight or diluted urine under the tongue, and keep it in the mouth for a few minutes. When drinking urine routinely, allergic reactions may not occur at all, thus doing away with the need to identify which substance one has been reacting to. There are various ways of using urine but generally it is advisable to start with small amounts. This is not only to get accustomed to the taste of it, but also to slow down any healing reactions, such as diarrhea, vomiting or nausea. The Universal Remedy was developed by Martin Lara (http://users.erols.com/martinlara/). In a small (dropper) bottle mix 2 drops of urine and 1 tablespoon of water by vigorously shaking for ten seconds. Whenever you feel sick put 4 drops under the tongue every 2 waking hours. Make a new remedy every week. Another method is to dilute a spoonful of morning urine with 5 to 10 times the amount of non-chlorinated water. Shake several times with a sharp downward stroke. Drink immediately or take a spoonful several times during the day; keep in the mouth for a while before swallowing. Start using undiluted urine with a few drops or a spoonful. These may be swallowed immediately, and you may wash it down with some water or juice, or eat a piece of fruit. With allergies and immune disorders it is more effective to leave the diluted urine under the tongue for a few minutes. With Candida, constipation, and to flush out the intestinal tract you may drink several cups of urine before breakfast. The usual maintenance dose is one cupful. Do not use undiluted urine that is cloudy. If the body is reasonably clean, then the urine does not taste offensive and reflects the aromas of the previous meal. The second morning urine, especially when drinking a fair amount of liquids after rising, is usually milder and easier to get accustomed to then the first morning urine. Urine therapy is a form of auto-therapy. Auto-therapy means using our own pathogenic fluids or pus to stimulate the immune system. The strongest effect is achieved when injecting the auto-vaccine, e.g. 1ml of fresh urine or strongly diluted pus, under the skin. Step 7 POLLUTION CONTROL Improve your Environment & Sanitize your Teeth Most of us live in an artificial and unnatural environment that makes it impossible to remain healthy by simply continuing in the commonly accepted way. Instead, we must become aware of the multitude of negative influences created by modern technology, and try to minimize their harmful effects on us. This includes housing, clothing, workplace, the water we drink and the air we breathe, and even our teeth. CLOTHING Clothes are our 'second skin' and their material and colour have a direct influence on our emotions and well-being. This applies especially to garments that are worn directly on the skin. Except for occasional short-term use, avoid underwear, including pantyhose and stockings, made of nylon or other synthetic material. Nylon seems to be worse than polyester. The only acceptable man-made fibre may be rayon as it is based on cellulose. Minimize wearing a bra, synthetic clothing and heavily chemicalized wool or cotton material (e.g. permanent–press). Select colours that balance your emotions: wear bright colours when you are low in energy and blue when you are nervous or irritable.
Avoid murky and dull grey colours, and be extra careful with black. Preferably wear shoes made of natural materials and with leather sole. Rubber and synthetic soles prevent the discharge of static electricity. Walking barefoot for several minutes on moist grass or wet sand helps to overcome this problem and recharge our energies. A large study (Singer and Grismaijer: Dressed to Kill. Avery Press) found that women who wear a tight bra all the time had a 125 times higher rate of breast cancer than women not using a bra. Women who never wear a bra have the same low breast cancer risk as men. A tight bra blocks the lymph circulation in the breasts. Therefore, if you do wear a bra, use a loose-fitting one without under wires and minimize using it at home. Also stimulate the lymph flow in the breast area by circling your arms, or massage around the breast, best while doing inversion exercises. HOUSING Preferable are building materials that do not block the natural electric, magnetic and life-force fields of the Earth. Basically this excludes sheet metals and steel or wire-mesh concrete reinforcements that form a cage-like structure. This leaves stone, brick, wood, straw, clay and fibrocement as energy-friendly building materials. Chemically treated wood is problematic as well, some chemicals are worse than others. It is also preferable to sleep under a roof that is covered with a non-metal, such as tiles or shingles. Most modern houses have aluminium coated insulation inside the walls and under the roof which blocks most of the natural energy flow. Except for windows and doors such metal enclosures block most of the natural energy flows and may be a reason why it is more difficult to recover from a serious disease inside a house. Sleeping habitually over earth radiation from underground streams and fault lines contributes to cancer. If in poor health, you may have your bed checked by a dowser who is able to perceive earth radiation. Alternatively you may protect yourself with earthed wire-mesh under the bed as explained below. Be careful with tinted glass for large windows because this may result in the wrong kind of colour therapy. New copper, lead and plastic pipes may leach undesirable concentrations of heavy metals into the water. Maximize natural fibres for your interior decorations and minimize synthetic carpets, curtains, covers, and so on. They emit pollutants, and accumulate static electricity. Synthetic materials, fluorescent lighting and TV sets lower beneficial negative ions in the air. Open windows minimize this harmful effect. If cooking and heating with gas or kerosene ensure that combustion gases are removed. Many people are allergic to these. Make your home a low-pollution sanctuary. Synthetic foam rubber mattresses are not good either. They emit toxic gases that may be a major factor in cot death. Wrap them in clear polythene with only a small opening at the bottom. Use natural blankets and sheets on top of the mattress. Even commercial sheepskin is chemically treated and can cause problems. Frequently expose pillows and featherbeds to the sun to kill moulds and dust-mites. This can greatly reduce asthma problems. Alternatively use an airtight pillowcase. Preferably use mattresses (futons) filled with natural fibres such as kapok, wool, horsehair or cotton; latex or natural rubber may be the best material. A cheap alternative is straw or hay from a pesticide-free source. Innerspring mattresses may direct confused magnetic fields into the body, depending on how the spirals have been tempered. When moving a compass across the surface of the mattress the needle should not be deflected from its north-pointing position. . Try not to use steel-framed beds or steel-spring frames that deflect the compass needle. Move the bed if there are metal beams or live wires in the wall behind the bed. Featherbeds sometimes contribute to arthritic problems due to static electricity between the feathers. Try to sleep with the head in a northerly direction or otherwise between north and
east. Our brain waves are slowest when the head points towards magnetic north. Cover your head during cold nights to minimize heat loss. Sleep in total darkness or cover your eyes during sleep, as production of beneficial melatonin is interrupted by exposure to electric light, although moonlight and red light are harmless. Avoid even short exposure to electric light in the first part of the night; use a weak torch if needed. If you live in a modern house try to sanitize it by minimizing the use of synthetic items that release chemicals, as for instance formaldehyde from glued material such as many carpets, chipboard or plywood. Avoid solvents and smelling household cleaners and disinfectants, tobacco smoke, mothballs and insect sprays. If the outside air is reasonably clean, good ventilation helps to minimize any problem. MINIMIZE ELECTROMAGNETIC-POLLUTION Strong electromagnetic fields (EMFs) of about 50 to 60 cycles per second (hertz, or Hz), and the related electromagnetic radiation (EMR) are harmful. Long-term exposure can aggravate any existing health problem, especially lack of energy or fatigue, irritability, aggression, hyperactivity, sleep disorders, nightmares and emotional instability. Increasing numbers of individuals are becoming hypersensitive to EMR. Chronic exposure to high levels of EMR, especially while asleep, is a constant drain on our vitality. It creates chronic stress, which interferes with the regeneration and healing that normally takes place during a good night’s sleep. For more information on health problems due to electricity with many case reports see www.emrsafety.8m.net. EMR exists around power lines, power tools, electric stoves, heaters, boilers, freezers and television sets when in use, extending up to several meters around the appliance. Keep your distance if possible. Using an electric iron or an electric keyboard or working with handheld power tools can quickly drain our energies. When working with electric equipment we can reduce harmful effects by holding our hands under running water from time to time, in addition to having a shower in the evening or walking barefoot on grass. Try to minimize electromagnetic pollution, especially while sleeping when the pineal gland is most susceptible. Preferably switch off all power points in the bedroom and unplug all electric leads with 2-prong plugs before going to sleep, especially power points or leads close to the bed. This applies also to waterbeds, which need to be switched off or unplugged overnight. Three-prong plugs may remain connected to power points because this allows stray electricity to flow off through the earth connection. If the head faces a wall with power points or other electric wiring inside the wall close to the bed, then move the bed towards the middle of the room so that you can walk around the bed. When using an electric blanket, warm the bed beforehand and disconnect the power before you go to bed or better still, connect the blanket to a good earth. Do not habitually remain near a working electric appliance, and minimize fluorescent lighting, watching television, using video games, computers and even electric keyboards and hand-held electric tools. Stray currents and radiating fields can still be emitted from electric wires even if appliances are switched off. AC electric fields do not disappear when an appliance is switched off, only AC magnetic fields disappear. Keep live wires away from your body. Preferably do not live near high-voltage lines, microwave towers or electric-train tracks. Alternatively take extra precautions to shield your home. TV sets and computer monitors emit harmful X-rays. Preferably sit as far away as conveniently possible. Flat or liquid crystal screens are much safer than conventional screens. An increasing hazard is microwave radiation from ovens, mobile phones, cordless phones and keyboards and other equipment. Most dangerous are long-reaching microwave stations inside the house for phones and computers. Electro-proofing your house: The measures outlined so far will go some way to reduce the harmful effects of EMR on your health. However, often they are not
enough. There is a simple way to check if your home and workplace are sufficiently safe. You can do this by measuring the electricity that is absorbed by your body. For this you need a digital voltmeter that can measure millivolts. Then you get some insulated electric wire that is long enough to reach from most rooms to the ground outside and attach an alligator clip to each end. Finally you need a ground stake or earth spike, a copper pipe is good, which you drive into moist soil. One end of the wire is clipped to a clamp at the top of the ground stake and the other to the black probe of the voltmeter. It is not good enough to attach the earth wire to a water pipe or to the main electricity ground stake of the house as they may carry high voltages. To close the circuit you now hold the metal end of the red probe firmly in one hand. However, it is more convenient to hold a piece of copper pipe, which is connected through a clipped or soldered insulated wire to the red probe. Set the dial to 2 AC Volt; if it shows less than 200 mV that is good, and you can switch the meter to the 200 mV setting. Preferably the reading should be below 100 mV in commonly used rooms and on your bed below 10 mV. Usually the reading is much higher, and you may get from 2 to 80 V while lying on your bed. You can reduce this by moving the bed away from the wall, but mainly using earthed wire-mesh or an earthed electric blanket. This also protects against harmful geopathic stress or earth radiation from underground streams. Cut off the plug and solder or clip an earth wire onto all three-wire strands. Alternatively attach a plug to the earth wire. If the bed has a steel frame or innerspring mattress then these may also need to be earthed. In addition earth any metal parts, such as window frames, metal wall cladding or roofing iron that show an unacceptably high reading when touched with one hand while holding the earthed probe in the other. This is especially the case if there are high-voltage powerlines, microwave towers or transformers nearby, or power lines that form a right angle at street corners. Combine all internal earth wires to a main earth wire, and connect this to a long ground stake behind the house in moist soil. It is also possible to get a good earth by connecting the earth wire to a moist part of a tree or large outside plant. If measuring the EMR in your bedroom is not conveniently possible, then just put some chicken-wire under your mattress and connect it to a good earth (e.g. ground stake) for protection against dangerously high EMR or earth radiation. An upper floor commonly has much higher voltages than the ground floor, as there is wiring in the floor as well as in the ceiling. To sanitize an apartment or office in a large building call on expert help. Alternatively or in addition to these measures, you may disconnect the fuse or switch in the meter-box for the bedroom (commonly including all power points in the house) overnight. Possibly have a separate fuse switch installed for the bedroom, or a demand switch that only supplies power to the circuit when needed. To improve your well-being and avoid road-rage or fatigue while driving, earth the inside of your car by leading the electricity from seats and large metal areas back to the negative pole of the battery. DENTAL PROBLEMS Our teeth are another major pollution area. Mercury amalgam fillings or different types of metal in the mouth act like an electric battery. Dead teeth with filled root canals tend to be chronic infection foci, and inflammations may remain inside the jawbone (cavitations) even after removal of teeth. All of these may not cause local pain but instead can create problems in other parts of the body because through acupuncture meridians each tooth is connected to a specific organ. Heart disease, for instance, is commonly connected with inflammations or infections in the number 8 or wisdom tooth positions, while kidney problems are related to the front teeth. Root-canal filled or other dead teeth are chronic infection foci and contribute too many diseases due to anaerobic microbes in the tiny canals or tubuli of the
dentine. Even after removal of bad teeth health problems can still arise or continue from root or metal fragments causing chronic infection and inflammation in the jawbone. Replace amalgam fillings with plastic composite. With serious conditions (e.g. MS, cancer) and large fillings, extraction of amalgam-filled teeth can bring much better results than simple replacement. Try to find a dentist who is familiar with safe amalgam removal procedures as recommended by holistic dentists associations. Remove mercury by using high doses of vitamin C, L-cysteine, MSM and chlorella before and after amalgam removal. Clear plastic partial dentures with plastic teeth are preferable to pink dentures, bridges, metal partials, and porcelain teeth with a metal base. Nickel in stainless steel can suppress the immune system and is carcinogenic. Even dental gold can be a problem because it is commonly blended with more harmful palladium. Try to keep your mouth free of metals and have only metal-free plastics as replacement. Any metal in the mouth can lead to allergy, on average about 30% of individuals are allergic to some metal in their mouth. For scientific information on the harmful effects of heavy metals see www.home.earthlink.net/~berniew1 and www.melisa.org. Step 8 HEALTHY LIVING Exercise, Sunlight & Living Water are Great Healers Healthy living is the solid basis for building radiant health. It focuses on the positive aspects of what we eat, drink, feel and think. In addition we use the three great healers of exercise, sunshine and living water as vital parts of a healthy lifestyle. SUNLIGHT Sunlight is our primary source of life and provides a combination of bio-energy and electromagnetic energies. Research shows that living in a sunny area is associated with lower rates and better outcomes of many diseases. Examples are multiple sclerosis, depression, cancers, especially breast cancer, and even skin cancers, especially melanoma. It has been estimated that in the U.S.A., about 30,000 cancer deaths yearly could be averted by regular mild sun exposure. In contrast, sunburn and fluorescent lighting appear related to increased rates of skin cancer and melanoma. Lack of sunlight in winter, or if bedridden, may cause depression, which can be cured by looking into sunlight and other suitable bright light, especially in the morning. This also helps us to sleep better; even babies sleep better if exposed to sunlight. In addition often look into the blue sky, this releases serotonin and uplifts our mood. Sunlight is also required to convert cholesterol into vitamin D. Deficiency of it is related to cancers, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and many other conditions. Frequently expose your whole body to mild or moderate sunlight. This may be in the garden, on the veranda or even inside a room with an open window. In addition sit lightly clothed in the half-shade under a tree or veranda. Except in winter do not sunbathe during the hours around midday. Short sunbathing is invigorating but long exposure is exhausting and ages the skin. Strong tanning is not desirable Acceptable sunscreens are zinc cream and PABA lotion. PABA is related to Bvitamins. You can dissolve PABA by mixing it with an equal amount of bicarbonate in a small amount of water and rub this on the skin. Re-apply it after swimming or heavy sweating. To prevent it from washing off you may mix it with some coconut cream. Prevent skin cancers by adopting a protective diet high in antioxidants and fish oils but low in seed oils. Avoid over-acidity, and use protective clothing as required. In addition to the skin, the eyes are important entrance points for sun-energy. J. N. OTT (Health and Light, Pocket Books) demonstrated with his research how
important it is for us to get the full spectrum of sunlight into our eyes. This is not possible if we sit behind windows or wear glasses all the time. These filter out essential UV frequencies, and this has been linked to diseases such as arthritis, cancer and leukemia, eye diseases, hyperactivity, endocrine and sexual problems. Plastic does not absorb UV-rays. LIVING WATER Water, air and food are the three main essentials to sustain life. For remaining healthy, these should be as clean and life enhancing as possible. All three are highly polluted in our present environment, and we need to make an extra effort to improve them. Food is the most difficult aspect and explained in a later chapter. Individually we cannot do much to improve our air, besides living in the countryside or buying an air ionizer. This leaves water in need of our attention. Water has the ability to attract and accumulate bio-energy. Bio-energy or life force energy is known in all traditional cultures under many different names, such as Chi, Ki, Od, Orgone or Prana. It can be seen or felt by many psychic or sensitive individuals. Water also stores an energy memory of harmful or helpful vibrations to which it was exposed in the past. This is the basis of homeopathy. Our chlorinated tap water is polluted with non-biological chemicals and negative energy imprints. It is also devoid of bio-energy and so may be regarded as being badly polluted as well as 'dead'. Contaminated water may be filtered, distilled or treated with reverse osmosis but it remains dead unless it is then energized to make it 'living' water that can improve our health. While polluted and dead tap water can contribute to the deterioration of our health, living water is one of the greatest healers. Ideally, healthy, living water should have the following properties: • Purity – being free of chemical, biological and vibrational pollution • Minerals - it should be well mineralized • Low Surface Tension due to the small cluster size of water molecules, becoming ‘micro water’ • Antioxidant Activity – having an abundance of negative hydrogen measurable as a negative oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) • Vibrations – carrying positive, health-promoting vibrations • Bio-Energy – being strongly charged with life force. All of these health-giving properties are naturally present in sunlit, cascading mountain streams. Purity is easiest to achieve with readily available filters, distillers and reverse osmosis. I have no strong preference for any particular method as long as you feel assured that your purified water is free of chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, pesticides and microbes. However, most of these methods, in addition to the nasties, take also the beneficial minerals out, while most filters do not adequately remove fluoride. There are also filters available (KDF-GAC) that only remove pollutants and leave beneficial minerals in the water. Minerals in our drinking and cooking water supply a sizable part of our overall mineral intake. Individuals can become badly de-mineralized from drinking distilled water over a long period. Also reverse osmosis water and rainwater (except if stored in concrete tanks) are very low in minerals. Therefore, remineralize purified water, by adding magnesium and colloidal minerals. Low Surface Tension is a common by-product of energizing water. This creates small liquid crystals, forming cage-like structures of about 6 molecules. Due to this effect energized water is called ‘micro water’. It contains minerals in an energized colloidal form and stabilized within small clusters of water molecules, which makes them easy to absorb. Antioxidant Activity: Antioxidant-rich water is now easily produced with water ionizers as electrolyzed reduced water (ERW). Positively charged ions (e.g. magnesium) and negative hydrogen accumulate on one side, making the water reducing (antioxidant) and alkaline, while negative ions, such as chloride and fluoride produce oxidizing acid water. Therefore, ionizers can be used to remove fluoride
from drinking water. The negative charge of alkaline water declines quickly with exposure to light and air, and in contact with metal and soft plastics. However, in closed brown glass bottles filled to the top or in a cupboard it can keep for days and weeks. You can choose between through-flow ionizers and batch ionizers. Batch ionizers are usually cheaper, more robust and easier to repair but more labour intensive, while through-flow ionizers are more convenient but usually more expensive. Vibrations: Water retains a memory of vibrations to which it was exposed as an energy imprint. These imprints in turn influence the user of the water and may be due to chemical, mechanical, electrical or magnetic influences, or even to feelings, emotions and thoughts. Some good water filtering and energizing systems impart natural rock vibrations in combination with a vortex formation. In biodynamics the purity of water was assessed with crystallization pattern. The purer the water, the more harmonious is the crystallization pattern and vice versa. In his book The Message from Water and on the website www.adhikara.com/water.html Masaru Emoto shows in countless pictures how the crystallization pattern of freezing water changes when exposed to human thoughts and feelings. Negative vibrations resulted in chaotic or confused crystallizations. As our body contains large amounts of water you may now appreciate what any negative thoughts and feelings are doing to your health. Bio-Energy: We obtain energized water from fresh raw fruit and vegetables, from rainwater during thunderstorms and from water exposed to sunlight. A stronger charge results if the water is exposed to a source of bio-energy while in turbulent motion leading to vortex formations. High mineral content, especially colloidal silica, helps in retaining the charge. Stirring water first in one direction and then immediately in the other direction can form vortexes. Also flow forms can be used in which the water cascades through several levels of spiral formations. Another system is a copper spiral through which the water flows. Commonly used sources of bio-energy are sunshine, magnets, Tachyon devices, crystals and ‘orgonite’, a mixture of about equal parts of metal particles and resin. An easy method is to let the alkaline water coming out of an ionizer flow tangentially into a plastic funnel, thereby forming a vortex. You may then tape a strong south-pointing magnet to the outlet, or let the water flow between opposite magnetic poles. EXERCISES Adequate physical activity is a main requirement for achieving and maintaining good health. Deep breathing while exercising is essential: lack of oxygen becoming breathless - is harmful. Therefore, breathe more vigorously than required for the activity at hand and increase the intensity of your exercises only gradually. Use a variety of activities such as cycling, walking, jogging, push-ups, digging, lifting, swimming, and so on. When jogging without padded running shoes touch down with the ball of the foot, and use the ankle joints as cushioning springs. Depending on your body needs and inclinations many different exercises may be performed. The more important ones are stretching, hanging from the hands or feet, using a rebounder or a lymphasizer, circling the pelvis, head and shoulder stand, isometric exercises, scalp and face exercises (pulling faces, tensing and relaxing scalp muscles), shaking to loosen the body, and slow graceful and rhythmic movements with or without music. Yoga exercises are excellent for stretching and massaging the internal organs. Frequently during the day you may do some stretching, tensing, circling or shaking. In addition, a time of the day or the week may be selected for a more thorough workout. With advancing age stretching becomes increasingly more important. Lie on a large bed or carpeted floor, and move your limbs and spine in various positions to the limits of their range and then stretch just a bit further. Try to let the body move on its own without much mental direction. Just
do what feels good. Some other useful exercises are as follows. Inversion Exercises strengthen the internal organs, drain lymph fluid from the lower part of the body, and flush the brain and face with blood. All this is good to delay or reverse aging. In the inverted position rhythmically tense and relax the muscles of the face and neck or sometimes the whole body. You may use inversion equipment that lets you hang upside-down, or you may use a slant board. Slant-boards are commercially available but you may just put a padded board from a bed or couch to the floor. Optionally you can use some straps to hold the feet in place. Lie on it as long as you like with the head just touching the floor. You may meditate or rest in this position. Another possibility is to kneel on a bed, couch or armchair and rest forearms and head on the floor. You may also do a shoulder-stand, headstand or handstand against a wall. Try bicycling movements in the inverted position. Do not invert if your blood pressure is rather high. Tensing: Tense and relax one muscle after another, starting with one foot, then the other and working up towards the top of the head. Inhale deeply, each time gradually increasing the tension, hold for a few seconds, and then slowly release the tension while exhaling. Finally, tense all muscles, starting with the feet and moving up to the neck. Simultaneously inhale deeply. Hold the whole body tightly tensed for several seconds; then gradually release the muscles, starting with the neck and moving down to the feet while exhaling. If a particular organ or limb is weak focus on it with repeated cycles of tension and relaxation. Do this exercise repeatedly during the day. Tensing may be done in any position: sitting, standing or lying down. It is easy to do while sitting at a desk all day long. Just take a deep breath, hold it for a few seconds while tensing the whole body, and then relax during exhalation. Frequent tensing is especially important if you have to stay in bed for a prolonged period. If your work requires you to stand still for extended periods remember to rhythmically tense and relax your leg muscles at regular intervals. Head and Neck Exercise: Slowly, but with force, bend the head three times in each direction, forward, backward and sideways. Try to let the head just drop to each side. Then move the head in circles, again slowly and forcefully, three times in each direction. This is excellent for strengthening the neck and in all cases of head congestion, eye and ear problems, and recurring headaches. In addition, you may circle the head 100 times in each direction. Body-Mind Exercise: Slowly move a stiff joint several times to the limit of its range. Then simply imagine the same movement but with an extended range, repeat several times. Then move the actual limb again and see whether its range has improved. The actual movements are easier if performed during slow exhalation. Test in this way how far you can turn your head. BREATHING EXERCISES Generally, we breathe just enough for the activity at hand. However, to prepare for action it is beneficial to breathe more deeply than we actually need. This makes us more energetic, helps to cleanse the body and neutralizes over acid conditions. Practice deep breathing out in the fresh air. Watch that during normal breathing your lower ribcage is moving. However, during sedentary activities it is preferable to breathe deeply but slowly. This helps to relax body and mind. By deliberately over-breathing we create tension and by under-breathing we relax. Watching the Breath This is a relaxing exercise to still the mind, or as part of a meditation. Mentally follow the breath flowing in and out without any attempt to control it. Full Breath: Inhale for several seconds, consciously filling first the lowest part of the lungs, causing the abdomen to lift. Then expand the middle part and finally the upper part of the chest. Hold the breath for several seconds then slowly release, starting with the upper chest. End by contracting the abdomen. Repeat this several times. Abdominal Breathing: Place a hand on the abdomen and feel it rise and fall without moving the chest. Adopt abdominal breathing when an acute breathing problem
develops. Exhaling: This helps to relax and relieve anxieties, tensions and pain. While standing, inhale quickly in about 1 or 2 second and then exhale slowly for about 10 seconds in one continuous sweep. Near the end, the shoulders should move forward, the buttocks press together and the pelvis move forward and upward in an involuntary movement. During exhalation you may focus on problem area, imagine the breath flowing into it, making it expand and feel warm. Alternating Breathing is helpful for balancing body polarities. Close the right nostril with a finger and inhale through the left nostril, then close the left nostril and exhale through the right nostril. Inhale through the right nostril, and exhale through the left one, and so on. Several rounds of this are good at the start of a meditation. Eight - Two Breathing: This may be used for stilling the mind and emotions, or during meditation or spiritual healing. Inhale for a count of eight, hold for two, exhale for eight, hold for two, and so on. The flow of the breath should be smooth and harmonious. Step 9 NUTRITION Adopt a Healthy Diet for Your Specific Requirements A good diet is essential for preventing and overcoming diseases. It needs to be appropriate for your metabolic type and body condition, and should be high in enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other protective factors. Eat your food as much as possible whole, live, and organic, chew well, enjoy what you eat, combine different foods correctly and deliberately under-eat rather than over-eat. • Whole food mainly means unrefined, using all edible parts. • Live food is basically the same as raw or uncooked food. 'Live' means that the food is still high in vitality and naturally occurring enzymes. These are destroyed when food is heated above 45ºC. • Organic Food is free of toxic chemicals, has been grown in good soil without pesticides and inorganic water-soluble fertilizers, it has not been irradiated, and is free of genetically engineered components and chemicals added for storing or during processing. Some important cooking rules: • Avoid soda in cooking or baking, it destroys B-vitamins • Use the cooking water; it is rich in vitamins and minerals • Do not fry or heat oils or fats • Cook for the shortest period and at the lowest temperature • Do not keep food warm for long, cool quickly for storage • Avoid aluminium and minimize stainless steel cooking utensils • Glassware, ceramic or enamel are best for cooking • Do not leave acid food in contact with metal surfaces • Do not cook what can conveniently be eaten raw • Do not cook with microwave Before cooking legumes or whole grains soak them overnight or even longer. This liberates inositol and minerals that are not available when cooking without prior soaking. Soaking and rinsing the seeds several times before cooking also reduces any pesticide residues, myco-toxins from fungal contamination, and lectins that may irritate the intestines or cause allergies. Food Combining is based on the following biochemical rules: 1. Proteins, with oil or fat (e.g. meat, fish, nuts), require strongly acid gastric juices 2. B vitamins, magnesium and chlorides activate digestive enzymes 3. Sweeteners, sugars and acids inhibit the digestion of starches There are three main groups of food to consider when working out correct combinations:
1. Proteins, sweet and acid foods, fruits 2. Neutral foods: fats and oils, vegetables, avocados olives 3. Starches: cereals, bread, potatoes and non-oily legumes Neutral foods may be combined with either one of the other groups while the two extreme groups are better kept apart. Therefore, eat meat, fish or nuts at the beginning of the meal for proteins to receive the strong gastric juices in the pit of the stomach. The rest of the meal, if not too liquid, will remain in distinct layers on top. Next eat some vegetables, and leave any starches for the last part. You may, however, mix some flavouring vegetables with meat or fish, or eat fruit together with nuts, or flavour lentil or bean soup with a small amount of meat. The weaker the digestion, the larger the meal, and the less it is chewed, the more important is correct food combining. Before a cooked meal it is good to have either some fresh vegetable juice or a small amount of raw vegetables or fruit. Intestinal Fermentation: Combining food high in fibre with sweet food is likely to cause wind. This gave rise to the frequently quoted rule not to combine vegetables with fruit. In this case some of the sugar from the fruit is not absorbed and then over-stimulates bacterial activity in the large intestine, causing excessive wind, flatulence or bloating. However, moderate intestinal fermentation can ease constipation. How much sweetness we can tolerate together with fibre is very individual. The more efficiently we absorb our food, the larger the amount of sweetness we can handle without getting into trouble. To avoid problems with beans, these may either be soaked or sprouted before eating, or the water in which they have been cooked may be renewed and discarded once or several times. HIGH-QUALITY DIET As a general rule, the more you follow a diet that is ideally suited for you, the better will be your health, and your weight will gradually normalize. If you are on a conventional diet at present, change only gradually onto the high-quality diet but if confronted with a serious disease, you may do so very rapidly or even adopt temporarily a raw-food diet. You need not be afraid that you may never eat your favorite food again. The longterm impact on our health comes from what we eat daily, not from occasional treats or transgressions. When you eat out just eat what is available; if it does not agree with you, you will know better the next time. The following is a low-allergy diet with a high intake of raw food, including fresh vegetable juices, sprouted seeds, fermented and purple food, legumes, nongluten grains, such as rice, millet, corn and buckwheat, and in addition also arrowroot, sago and tapioca. Excellent are meals based on legumes, especially cooked or sprouted lentils, peas and chickpeas (e.g. as hommos). Fats, oils and proteins are much healthier for us if eaten raw, while most vegetables are easier to digest if cooked or juiced. To gain weight, you may eat more cooked food. The best fish is deep-sea fish of small or non-predatory species or seafood from uncontaminated coastal regions. Large predatory fish is high in mercury. Farmed fish may be polluted with chemical residues and low in omega-3 fatty acids. Chicken or other fowl is best home-grown or organic. Beef and chicken broth are strengthening with general weakness and debility. Meat is healthiest for us if eaten predominantly raw. It should be from disease and chemical-free animals. Those with type O blood group generally feel better and remain healthier with flesh food in their diet. Minimize cooking flesh foods, especially heating above the boiling point. Raw minced meat may be flavoured with grated or chopped onion, garlic, and ginger, tomato or radish, lime or lemon juice. You may also blend pieces of chicken or turkey, flavour and drink as broth. Fish or other seafood may also be marinated (dice and soak in lemon juice). Use only organic or otherwise safe meat from a reliable source. Do not eat raw meat from a feedlot. Commercial pork is not safe. Ask for grass-fed beef or eat lamb instead if you want red meat. As a further precaution periodically use an herbal anti-parasite program, and freeze the meat for ten days or more to kill any
tape-worm cysts. I believe that with these precautions raw meat is safe and healthy, while habitually using cooked meat is inherently unhealthy, due to lack of enzymes and the formation of carcinogenic chemicals when heated above boiling point. Eggs should be genuinely free-range or organic and preferably not produced with commercial pellets. Fresh, raw egg yolk is a health food that improves vitality and immune functions. It may be used as part of a salad dressing or mixed with other food. It does not increase but rather prevent the risk of heart disease. Alternatively eat egg soft-boiled or coddled, egg white may be cooked or beaten. The best milk products are yogurt, cottage cheese and cheese from goat's milk or from fresh, raw organic cows’ milk. Nuts, almonds and other oily seeds contain anti-nutrients; raw nuts are especially high in enzyme inhibitors. However, this is not a problem if they are soaked overnight, as this makes nuts healthier and easier to digest. Peanuts must be vigorously washed and rinsed to reduce any fungal contamination. Nuts and other oily seeds may be used as pastes or nut butters, preferably raw, after soaking or fermenting. However, freshly ground or refrigerated linseed may be used for its laxative action and omega-3 fatty acids without prior soaking. Oils and fats should be raw or unheated. Most recommended are avocados, raw butter and cream, virgin coconut oil or coconut cream, cod liver oil and other fish oils, and extra virgin olive oil. Coconut oil is highly recommended for its antimicrobial activity in addition to providing good energy and body heat without causing undue weight gain. Fruits need to be used with care. Commercial fruits may be heavily sprayed, and their high sugar and acid content can cause problems for individuals with a sensitive skin or low blood pressure. They should neutralize fruit acids as explained in Step 5, and eat fruit together with fats or oils such as mixed with avocado or coconut cream. On the other hand, individuals with insensitive skin and raised blood pressure do well with fruit and may often have just fruit instead of a regular meal. Normally, use fruit mainly before or between meals. Breakfast is commonly based on cereals. However, grain-based and sweet foods cause problems for most individuals, especially if sugar-sensitive and overweight. Instead, try a breakfast of any of the following: ground linseed, seed yogurt, nut butter or soaked nuts and oily seeds, fresh coconut or dairy cream, coconut oil or grated coconut, egg or egg yolk, cheese or cottage cheese, bananas or other fruit. If you have fruit for breakfast, add some coconut cream, raw egg yolk, cottage cheese, ground linseed, avocado or protein powders (spirulina, wheat or barley greens) to slow the absorption of sugars.. You may use any of these as porridge with barley or wheat grass powder, spirulina, bee pollen and ground linseed. You may also use a sprout salad with some of the above. Hommos is good with most meals and can also be used as bread-spread. Sourdough bread is better than yeast baking, try rice, spelt or rye bread. If you do use cereals, use mainly non-gluten grains, such as rice, millet, corn and buckwheat, and in addition also arrowroot, sago and tapioca. Preferably cook these cereals or starches together with legumes, such as lentils, peas, chickpeas or beans. Legumes combine well with vegetables as a standard cooked meal, as for instance lentil soup with pumpkin, carrot or sweet potato. Restricted Foods: wheat and gluten-enriched foods, sweeteners and sweet foods, dried and pasteurized milk, margarine, shortenings, canola and seed oils (except if cold-pressed); highly heated, processed and GM-foods. SPECIAL FOODS Special foods high in protective nutrients may be used for general healing qualities or to overcome various health problems. Examples are sprouted seeds, bee pollen, cereal grasses, juiced or powdered; purple foods, sulphur foods, and unheated lactic acid fermented foods. Sulphur-rich foods improve detoxification and strengthen the immune system. These include raw egg yolk, garlic, onion, horseradish, watercress, turnip and members of the cabbage family.
Sprouted seeds and young shoots such as cereal grasses provide a high degree of vitality and rejuvenation. Sprouted seeds are a mainstay of a good diet. Commonly used for sprouting are legumes such as lentils, mung beans, fenugreek and chickpeas, but also almonds, nuts and sunflower kernels may be spouted. Sunflower and buckwheat seeds make a tasty salad when grown in seed boxes and cut close to the soil when 5-10 cm high. Purple Foods have especially strong antioxidants. When cooked or pressed with skin they yield purple juice. Common examples are beetroot, black, purple or red grapes or currants, cherries, red wine and red cabbage, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Green Protein Powder: I recommend this as a basic snack or meal. Mix one teaspoon of spirulina and/or chlorella, two of barley or wheat grass powder and ground linseed, and three or more of bee pollen in a suitable liquid. This may be almond milk, seed yogurt or milk yogurt, fresh vegetable juice or grape juice, or smoothie made with raw egg, pawpaw, banana or other fruit. You may add a pinch of lecithin, coconut oil or extra-virgin olive oil, and make the consistency so that you can drink it, or eat it like porridge. Bone Jelly Broth is excellent to improve connective tissue and is useful with arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, weak blood vessels, varicose veins, sagging skin and other age-related problems. Simmer fish heads or knucklebones for several hours with the addition of a tablespoon of vinegar in a non-metal pot. Strain and refrigerate or freeze in small lots, frequently add to meals. For slimming minimize food based on grains or cereals as well as sweeteners and sweetened food. Eat mainly slow-digesting food such as proteins, unheated fats and oils, legumes and vegetables; maximize raw food intake, lemon juice fasts and exercise. PROBLEM FOODS Problem foods are widely used basic foods that lead to health problems in large parts of the population. So-called junk food and heavily processed and chemicalized food belong in this category, but also dried fruits, milk products and wholemeal bread. What chiefly makes a particular food a problem is the presence of one or several components that frequently cause metabolic or digestive problems. Avoid or minimize any problem foods that you can identify as contributing to your health problems. The main problem foods in our society are: Lactose and cow's milk products Gluten and wheat products Sugar and sweet foods Red meat and fats Chemicalized food, stimulants, and moulds. Cow’s milk proteins and lactose cause mucus congestion and susceptibility to colds, ‘flu and asthma, as well as allergies and enzyme deficiencies, especially from using pasteurized products. For babies you may use goat’s milk or fully hydrolyzed whey or casein powder. Wheat and gluten tend to cause intestinal irritation and inflammation, and greatly contribute to malabsorption, overweight and allergies. Gluten temporarily causes leaky gut syndrome even in healthy people. Other grains lower in gluten than wheat are oats, rye and barley. Sugar and sweet foods make us over- acid and oversensitive, cause mineral deficiencies and contribute to a wide range of diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Possible sugar substitutes are xylitol, glycerin or stevia Red meat and saturated fats (when heated) cause enzyme deficiencies and may contribute to many diseases, especially if highly heated, however unheated they can be health foods. Chemicalized foods are basically all non-organic processed foods with added chemicals - most supermarket foods. Grain products, peanuts and dried fruit are
most affected by moulds. METABOLIC TYPES We have inherited our metabolic make-up from the traditional diets of our ancestors. I distinguish between 3 basic metabolic types: the non-vegetarian type needing a high intake of slow-digesting proteins and fats; the vegetarian type doing well on a fast-digesting high carbohydrate intake, and those in-between, the balanced type. The relationship between these basic metabolic types and blood groups is rather straightforward. Blood group O is the oldest blood group. It originated in the hunter-gatherer area and corresponds to the non-vegetarian type with a high requirement for protein and fat and low use of starches. Group A resembles most closely the seed-eating vegetarian type, while B is the lacto-vegetarian type, and closest to the balanced metabolic type. Blood group AB has the characteristics of A as well as B. Some sub-groups of A need more protein and fat. Those of the non-vegetarian type, commonly with blood group O, need mainly slowdigesting food; those of the vegetarian type and commonly with blood group A do better with fast digesting food, while the other types and blood groups may use a balanced diet. SUPPLEMENTS Food supplements are most important for individuals with malabsorption and those using processed and refined food or non-organic produce. Also many diseases can be improved with specific nutrients. The following are some basic guidelines. To improve your diet use concentrated health foods such as barley or wheat grass powder, bee pollen, cod liver oil and other fish oils, kelp powder, lecithin, and spirulina or chlorella. For a more natural action and better absorption, crush any vitamin and mineral tablets and mix them with meals, or take your tablets near the middle of a meal. Digestive enzymes are beneficial for malabsorption, underweight, if elderly or in poor health, and may be taken with all cooked meals. Lipase (to digest fats) is especially good for diabetes, heart disease and overweight. Proteases (to digest proteins) help with cancer. Fat-soluble vitamins are frequently deficient due to malabsorption. Vitamins A and D are best obtained from fish oils, especially halibut liver oil and cod liver oil. Capsules of deep sea fish oil are good for their omega-3 fatty acids but do not normally contain vitamins A and D. The preferred form of vitamin E is as mixed tocopherols. With signs of malabsorption take the tablet or emulsified forms of these vitamins, or rub the oil into the skin. Avoid synthetic fat-soluble vitamins, especially d,l alpha tocopherol, natural vitamin E is d-alpha tocopherol. To improve the absorbtion of oils from capsules or cod liver oil open the capsules and mix the oil with lecithin and food. Alternatively mix the oil with lecithin and juice in a jar and shake, or mix in the mouth before swallowing. Without emulsifying oil in this way it does not properly absorb; instead it may remain in a puddle on top of the stomach content and endlessly repeat. This also applies to other oil-soluble nutrients, such as vitamin E oil capsules or coenzyme Q 10. Alternatively, open vitamin E capsules and squeeze a suitable amount into each freshly opened bottle of extra virgin olive oil and cod liver oil. Vitamin E tablets do not need to be emulsified, just crushed and mixed with the meal. You may take a multivitamin tablet or B vitamin complex as health insurance. Vitamin C in large divided doses is helpful in emergencies such as acute infections, burns or poisoning. Antioxidants are protective for a wide range of conditions; coenzyme Q10 can improve energy levels. The most important minerals are usually selenium, zinc, boron, chromium, magnesium and calcium. Step 10
MIND & EMOTIONS Use Your Mind to Become the Person You Want to Be Our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, beliefs and emotions form the fabric of our inner world. They are the main factors that determine whether we are healthy or unhealthy, happy or unhappy. They have a direct influence on our body by changing or maintaining our inner blueprint and by directing, blocking or enhancing bioenergy flows and glandular activities. They also act in an indirect way by determining which foods we eat, which environmental factors we choose, which kind of knowledge we acquire and how we use it. Therefore, in order to improve our condition, whether on the social, mental or emotional level, or with regard to our health, we must first change our inner world. Some steps in this direction are as follows. 1. Examine your present condition on all levels; make a list of what you do not like, and another one of how you would like to be instead. Set priorities and start making the necessary changes. 2. Your body tries to fulfil the expectations of your mind, therefore remain consistent in expecting to become as you want to be. 3. Reprogram your subconscious mind with mind-control methods to become the person you want to be; participate in workshops. 4. Adopt a holistic or spiritual philosophy of life. There are specific techniques to accomplish this. However, use mind methods for emotional and mental problems in combination with nutritional improvement: stabilize the blood-sugar level, avoid allergens, and use appropriate supplements. In this way, the nutritional component of our mind problems is easily rectified and we can make much better progress with the remaining, deep-seated problems. Techniques for improving our mental and emotional condition are emotional release, prayer and meditation, and autosuggestion methods such as relaxation, affirmation, visualization and guided imagery. Deep relaxation is essential for success with autosuggestion methods, meditation and all other methods to contact the inner self. You may experiment with the following relaxation methods: • Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes. Focus your attention for 10 to 20 seconds on your right foot. Feel it becoming warm and heavy. Then move to the left foot, the right calf, the left calf, and so on, moving upwards to the head. Include the chin, the jaw, eyes, the back and top of the head. • Imagine being in a red-coloured room on an upper level of a high- rise building. Then enter an elevator and feel yourself going down and down until you reach an orange room; then go further down to a yellow room, a green one, then blue, indigo and finally violet. • Imagine yourself walking down a bush path to the bottom of a waterfall; feel the peace. • With each slow exhalation feel that you drift lower and lower in a long tunnel, or imagine diving towards the bottom of the sea. • Slowly count backward from 50 to one. With each count imagine yourself sinking deeper and deeper. • An easy method is slow, rhythmical breathing. Inhale for a count of eight, hold for two, exhale for eight, hold for two, and so forth. Focus your attention on your breath, how it quietly flows in and out. You may also focus on your slow inhalations and exhalations without paying attention to the timing. AFFIRMATIONS Look through your list of beliefs that you want to change and select one of immediate importance. Often this will be a health problem or an emotional difficulty. Then work out a short statement to describe your goal. With breathing problems, for instance, you may state: "My breath flows free and easy at all times". Write it down at least ten times, and then read it aloud as often as you wrote it. Do this several times daily. While making each statement, try to feel it at the same time; in our example feel
your breath flowing freely. Emile Coue, the originator of autosuggestion therapy, frequently used the following affirmation: "With every day in every way I am better and better." Note the rhythm and poetic sound of this suggestion. In this way the right half of our brain, which requires artistic stimulation, can accept a verbal suggestion, which it otherwise might ignore. The right brain is intimately linked to our subconscious mind. You may also use: “My days are filled with love and joy.” GUIDED IMAGERY For many problems guided imagery is the most powerful autosuggestion method. Visualization or mental imagery is an effective form of guided imagery. Enter a state of deep relaxation, visualize your goal or the desired solution to your problem, and then hold the picture in a vivid form for as long as possible. Try to feel it at the same time. Visualizing a solution provides the form, which then allows your feelings to fill this form with the energy to manifest the imagined condition. Alternatively, you may produce a mental movie, also called guided reverie. Even if not producing a moving scene, visualization is usually more effective if you do not try to hold on to a still picture, but rather make it in some way dynamic as with changes or fluctuations in color, size, intensity of feeling, or by breathing into it. See yourself as you would like to be. Use your imagination to create a mental picture suitable for your specific problems. There is no limit to what you can achieve. EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT) EFT is very effective in overcoming the harmful effects of negative emotions and memories. The basic principle of this therapy is stated as: "The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption of the body’s energy system." Some single aspect problems, such as fear of heights, public speaking, snakes or spiders may yield within minutes. Select a problem or memory that still evokes a negative emotion. Then use the following formula: "Even though I have this ____, I deeply and completely love and accept myself." For instance, if you had a diagnosis of cancer you may say: "Even though I have this fear of cancer, I deeply and completely love and accept myself." Say this affirmation aloud while tapping. With repeated tapping you may shorten the affirmation, or say it just in your mind, or see it as an inner movie. To be effective you need to be specific. Your fear of cancer may be from a fear of dying, pain or suffering, leaving your family behind, and others. You need to address each of these different aspects separately. Each time while saying the affirmation, you tap each acupuncture point, or pair of points, about 7 times. Do this firmly with the tips of the slightly curled index and middle fingers of each hand on both sides of the body. These meridian points are: • At the top of the head • At the inner end of each eyebrow • On the bony ridge at the outside of the eyes • On the bone under the eyes • Between bottom of nose and top of upper lip • Midway between the point of the chin and the lower lip • Where the breastbone, collarbone and first rib meet • On the side of the body level with the nipple or bra strap • On the inside of each wrist. At the beginning of the procedure and again after a series of tapping assess the emotional intensity of the stressful memory or fear on a scale from 0 to 10 by imagining the situation. If the intensity has lessened but not returned to 0, repeat it with an adjusted affirmation. With some problems, especially addictions and those of a physical nature, repeat
the procedure many times during the day for an extended period. For more information see www.emofree.com or www.mercola.com/forms/eftcourse.htm. PRAYER Basically, in prayer you ask for guidance, give thanks or offer yourself for service, while in meditation you listen for the answer. Eventually, both methods may be combined in what we may call inner communication. The most effective prayer is a thanksgiving for the granted request, knowing that it has already started to manifest on the spiritual level, and will in due time appear in your reality. Here is a summary of the requirements for a successful prayer: 1. Contemplate and formulate your message. 2. Relax or enter a meditative state. 3. Create an emotional outpouring. 4. Say your message in simple words, preferably aloud. 5. Include thanksgiving for what you are about to receive. 6. Have complete faith that the prayer is successful. 7. Repeat your prayer several times on successive days. MEDITATION During meditation you still your mind and raise your awareness towards your guiding consciousness. Christian saints used to call meditation 'silent prayer'. In meditation, you remain wide-awake in a heightened state of consciousness without thinking. If we feel somewhat tired, our meditation can be improved by raising our energies beforehand with a few minutes of deep breathing and whole-body shaking or other vigorous exercises. Then proceed with a relaxation exercise and state the goal of your meditation in a prayer or affirmation. Assume a position in which you are comfortable for an extended period. Preferably keep the spine straight. You may sit erect, with both feet on the ground, in a chair with a straight back, or sit cross-legged in a lotus or semi-lotus position. For many it may be more comfortable to sit on the heels with a cushion under the feet. You may also lie flat on your back if you are able to remain wide-awake in this position. An easy method is with slow breathing. Focus on the breath, feel how it smoothly and rhythmically flows in and out. Do not try to regulate or guide the breath, just follow it mentally and feel it. When thoughts arise let them drift past without paying any attention to them, the same with outside noise. At other times you may concentrate on your heart centre and feel it becoming warm, filled with love and compassion. Alternatively, focus at the middle of your forehead, feel it as a centre of happiness or even bliss. If the eyes are closed, it helps if you turn them up and inwards as if looking at the forehead centre. As an effective healing exercise “breathe into” the part of the body in need of healing. Imagine filling it with energy, feel it becoming light and warm, embrace it with love from your heart centre. Hold these sensations as long as you can and expand them throughout the body. Meditate for thirty minutes or longer, the longer the better. Preferably make meditation a regular habit at the same time and in the same location each day. EMOTIONAL RELEASE Each time we suppress a feeling or do not express it in a suitable way, the generated energy solidifies into muscle tension. Therefore, we need to 'let go' release accumulated negative emotions and tension, and learn expressing our emotions appropriately. Some emotional cleansing techniques are as follows: Direct Release: Try to express your feelings immediately in an appropriate way. When you are angry, say so, and when you have tender feelings, acknowledge them with a loving smile or touch. Re-enactment: In many instances it is inappropriate to show our feelings. Then we can re-enact this episode at a convenient time in privacy. Recall all the details, and even try to exaggerate your feelings. Kick, scream, hit, and say what you would have liked to say.
Forgiveness: The key and cornerstone of emotional healing is forgiveness. As long as we cannot unconditionally forgive, ourselves as well all others, we will remain trapped in negative emotions from the past. This prevents us from fully loving ourselves as well as all others. A SPIRITUAL PHILOSOPHY A philosophy of life is our basic belief system about the nature of our existence, about its purpose and goal. From this we try to understand our role in society and our relationship with the environment and any higher forces. Everyone has a philosophy of life and acts accordingly, even if they are not consciously aware of it. With a spiritual philosophy of life we see ourselves as part of a higher purpose, of a universal blueprint, and we consciously try to cooperate with its unfolding and manifestation. It gives us guidance and support in our daily interactions and relationships. In the same way that we can deliberately choose to believe in and follow a certain religion or political party, we can also deliberately adopt a spiritual philosophy that helps us to heal ourselves and move towards a more radiant life. Normally, this adopted philosophy can be in harmony with our present religion or political views. Just look for the highest ideals and replace any negative aspects with positive beliefs. The centre point of any philosophy of life is the question of meaning or purpose. If we see no specific purpose in life, and especially in our own life, then it is quite natural to live for the sake of sensory and ego gratification, but we also may easily become depressed. In a spiritual philosophy we believe in a higher purpose. We may not know the exact nature of this purpose, and it may not even matter. The important part is to move in the right direction towards our ideals, however slowly and however often we stumble. Try to walk a middle path between pleasureseeking and self-inflicted suffering. The basic key to overcoming obstacles and moving towards radiant health is that we firmly expect to achieve our goal and act accordingly. Just let yourself be guided step by step, one step at a time, by listening to your spiritual guidance, or by moving towards your highest ideals. This is called 'living by faith' or 'going with the flow'. It is a simple guide for the ten basic healing steps that form the foundation for any successful attempt to overcome a specific disease. Many health problems may already disappear just by using these ten basic steps, and any remaining problems can be more easily addressed with specific healing methods. On the other hand, if a vital basic step has not been dealt with, e.g. if there is overgrowth of the blood or intestinal tract with harmful microbes, then no amount of supplements or other procedures may be able to overcome a specific disease. Disclaimer: The aim of this book is to provide information on using natural healing methods to improve health and overcome illness.
