in,gableshavefallenintothestreet,wallshavecollapsed,andfloorboardshavesplinteredandspilled
guestsintotheroomsbelow,andsoon.Knuckleboneandhisemployees,asmallhordeofchartering
goblins,havemadesomanyimprovisedandhaphazardrepairsthatthebuildingbearsalmostno
resemblancetoitsoriginaldesign.Guestsaresometimespuzzledtofindthathallwayshaveshiftedor
thattheirroomshavemoved,occasionallyupordownafulllevel.Theinnisnormallyfivestoriestall,but

manypricelessworkswerelostforever.Today,acouncilofscholarsfromalleighthousesoverseesthe
restorationofknowledgeinthenewTowerofWords.Thoughthedrowareafractiousandchaoticrace,
theyrealizethatthelossofmoreknowledgemightspelltheirdoom,sotheyhaveagreedtocooperatein
themaintenanceandcontrolofthisstructure.

warrens.AlltrogsgatherfortheannualmatingritualsthattakeplaceintheCeremonialArena.Therest
ofthetime,malesdwellinoneportionoftheburrows,andfemalesandyoungkeepstrictlytotheother.

EerieSinlo'ssmalltrollcommunitylivesinroomycavesandstonehutsdesignedtoaccommodatethe
creatures'impressivestature.Despitetheirlownumbers,thetrollsaresecondininfluenceonlytothe

Byfarthemostnumerousofthedrowchattelarethepitifulgoblins,whicharesoubiquitousthatmost
ofEerieSinlo'sinhabitantslearntoignorethemcompletely.Althoughmanygoblinsliveinslavequarters
providedbytheirowners,largenumbersdwellintheseslumsandmakethedailytrektoandfromtheir
owner'shomeorbusiness.Thestreetsoftheslumsarelinedwithshacks,ruins,andtenementsthatare
teemingwithgoblins,packedwithrefuse,andplaguedbyverminandpredators.Nosensiblebeingwould
liveherevoluntarily,buttheslumsaretheonlyhomethatthesedowntroddengoblinsknow.Someofthe
fewfreegoblinsinEerieSinlohaverelocatedtotheGhettoofOutcasts,butthatneighborhoodisnot
muchofanimprovement.Afewgoblinsarebraveandresourcefulenoughtoescapefromtheirowners,

fashion,LadyThandyshahasambitiousplansforitsuse.Heragentshavepurchasedseverallocaltaverns
andbrothels,andsherecruitstheneighborhood'smoreskilledresidentsaskillers,spies,andguards.The
restofthedrowinEerieSinloshunthedistrict,leavingitsinhabitantstotheirowndevices.Inreturn,the
residentshavecreatedanightmarishsocietyruledbycriminalgangsandbrutalthugs.Fromtimetotime,
atalentedresidentrisesupfromthegrindingpovertyandregainsinfluenceinthecity,butforthemost
part,thedowntroddendrowoftheghettoremainoppressed,poor,andutterlywithouthope.Foreigners
sometimesvisittheghetto,andahandfulevenlivehere.Ironically,comparedtootherdistrictsinthe
city,theGhettoofOutcastsisrelativelysafeforoutlandersbecausecommondrowignorethedistrict,
andresidentsaretoofargonetocarewhotheyrubshoulderswith.

O1.GuildofthePoxbearers
ThefilthandverminsoprevalentintheGhettoofOutcastssometimescauseoutbreaksofterrible
diseases,andfewsicknessesareasdreadedasthesuppuratingpox.Victimsofthepoxwasteawayfor
monthsoryears,pronetoweakness,fevers,andconvulsions.Meanwhile,theirflesh,crateredbyboils
andweepingsores,almostliterallymeltsawayinlong,stringytendrils.Theguildisalsodevotedtothe
gawdMangrusandseveralZealotsserveamongstthem.Thesevictims,knownaspoxbearers,have
formedabeggars'guildandusetheirillnesstoimprovetheirqualityoflifehoweverlittleofitremains.
Theguildrunsafairlystraightforwardprotectionracket.Bandsofpoxbearerswanderthestreets,
demandingpaymentfrompassersby.Sincethepoxishighlycontagious,theimplied(orovert)threatis
thatthosewhofailtocontributewillbeforciblyinfectedandconsignedtoahideousdeath.Almost
anyonewhohassparecoinsgladlygivesthemupinthehopeofavoidingsuchafate.Thereisabenefitto
aidingpoxbearersaswell,sincethediseaseissaidtograntdivine(orpossiblyprofane)presciencetoits
victims,allowingthemtoseethefuture.Generousdonorsaregivenabriefandusuallyobscure
prophecy,andthosewhopartwithfewercoinsreceiveableakervisionoftheirfutureoften,the
revelationthattheywillbecomevictimsofthesuppuratingpoxanddieinagony.Theguildhouseisa
surprisinglypleasantlookingvilla,keptingoodrepairbyskilledpoxbearers.Residentsofthe
neighborhoodgivetheplaceawideberth,outoffearofcontagiousguildmembersandtheirleader,said
tobeavictimofthediseasewhoperishedandwasraisedasanundeadcreature.Supposedly,thefoul
beingnowusesthepoxasaweapontogainpowerforitselfanditsfollowers.Therumorhasneverbeen
confirmed,butitisplausibleenoughtokeepoutlandersaway.

O2.TheSnakeandWeasel
PleniusGreysoul(NEmaleDarkmanBard9)haslivedintheGhettoofOutcastsallhislife.Atalentedthief
andfence,hepullsthestringsofmanythugsandalleybasherswhocallthedistricthome,andhe
specializesinreturningstolengoodstotheirowners.Ofcourse,heisusuallyresponsibleforthetheftsin
thefirstplace,andhechargesexorbitantpricesfortheitems'return.EvenifPleniusdoesnothavea
givenstolenitemforsale,oddsarethatheknowswhereitis,andhewillpartwiththisinformationfora
price.Sharinghisgoodfortunewiththeresidentsoftheghetto,PleniushasturnedtheSnakeandWeasel
intooneofthemoretolerableeatinganddrinkingestablishmentsaround.Itattractsarelatively
nonviolentclientlebydiscouragingbrawls,crime,andmayhemwithinitswalls.Pleniusenforcesthe
rulesthroughhisbugbearandhalfogrebouncers,allofwhichareaccomplishedwarriors.

O3.TheDemon'sDen
Brutalthugslurkintheghetto'salleys,butslightlymoreprincipledroguesandswashbucklersholdsway
incertainpartsoftheneighborhood.Knownasrakes,theyareusuallyDarkmenor(rarely)fullblooded
outcastsfromtheirfamilies,unitedbyadesiretochangetheirsocietythoughexactlyhowto
accomplishthatchangeremainsaboneofcontention.Therakeshaveseveralfavoredwateringholes,
foremostamongthemtheDemon'sDen,whichattractsclientswhoarerelativelypleasant(and,onrare
occasions,nonevil).Theygathertotalk,drink,gamble,brawlingoodnaturedfashion,anddiscussthe
inequitiesofdrowsociety.TheirinformalleaderisZaetha(CNfemaleDarkmanSwashbucker9),an
outcastsaidtoworshipfallendeitiesthatwerepowerfulbeforetheriseofZandal.TheDenisalsoa
favoredhauntforthechaoticadvocatesofZues,andcasualvisitorsshouldbeonguardwhenboth
groupsarehereatthesametime.Althoughmanyrakesarelesshostilethanfullbloodeddarkelves,it
wouldbeamistaketothinkofthemasanylessviolent,mercurial,orevil.Exceptionsdoexist,butmost
rakesarejustascruelasdrowinotherpartsofthecity.

O4.TheHideaway
EerieSinloisfullofcreaturesontherun,whetherfromtheirownkindorfromthedrow.Ontheoutside,
theHideawayisanordinaryinnlocatedinanespeciallytawdry,rundownsectionofatawdry,rundown
district,butitalsoservesasarefugeforthoseonthelam.ProprietorMelashD'valla(Nmalehalfdrow
Thief9)isnotrunningacharity.Hechargessteepfeesforhisservices,inpartbecausemuchofhis
incomegoestodrowofficialsandsoldiers,whomhepaystolooktheotherway.Thetruepurposeofthe
Hideawayisanopensecretthroughouttheghetto,butmostresidentsknownottodiscussitovertly.The
establishmentisaspleasantaspossible,consideringtheneighborhood.Thefoodanddrinkisbadbutnot
toobad,thediningroomisfilthybutnottoofilthy,andthegamesarecrookedbutnottoocrooked.
Melashprovidesordinaryroomsfor5sppernight,buthisrealbusinessinvolvesanumberofwell
hiddenchambersthattheauthoritieseithercannotfindorarepaidtoignore.Thesecretchambersare
relativelycomfortable,giventhatoccupantsmustspendmanyhoursordaysthere,andtheycostupto
100gpperday,dependingonthenatureofthecustomer'soffenseandthesizeofthebribesMelash
mustpaytokeephimsafe.

GHETTOOFTHEDEAD
Oncewidelybelievedtobedeaditself,HouseEilservs,whoseschemesonthesurfaceworldledto
disaster,nowcontrolsthisdarkandhorrifyingdistrictofEerieSinlo.TheGhettooftheDead,alsocalled
theNecropolis,isafittinglocaleforthefallenhouseanditsstillambitiousleader.Longago,theghetto
wasatraditionalplaceofthedead,knownforitsmausoleums,cemeteries,andtombs.Butdrow
necromancersstartedcomingheretoexperiment,raisingcorpsesoftherecentlydeceasedtodotheir
bidding.Intheend,theghettobecameaplaceofthewalkingdead,andconventionalintermentof
corpseswasfinallyabandoned.Mostdrowavoidthedistrict,venturingintotheghettoonlywhenthey
mustdisposeofmortalremains.Bodiesaredepositedaccordingtovaryingdegreesofceremony,
dependingontheimportanceofthedeceased.Oncethemournersdepart,thedistrict'spermanent
residentsthehungryundeaddescendtofeastuponthecorpses.Ghoulsarethemostcommon
inhabitantsoftheghetto,butvampiresandnecromancersaretheunofficialrulers.Onceayear,the
ghoulsareallowedoutofthedistricttoterrorizeEerieSinloinaritualknownastheTimeofthe
Hunters.Mostdrowbarricadethemselvesintheirestatesorhomesduringthistime,buttheravenous
hordeovercomesmanysecuritymeasures,andtheeventresultsinmanydeaths.

D1.NecropolisSquare
Thisgrimplazaissurroundedbyeightunadornedobelisksoneforeachofthecity'snoblefamilies.The
obelisksdonotbearfamilycrestsbecauseofthefrequencywithwhichthedrowhousesfallandare
replaced.Recarvingthecrestswouldbeapointlesswasteoftimeandeffort.Beyondtheplazasprawlthe
warrensofthedead,fullofghoulsandotherrottingcreatures.Here,thedearlydepartedreceivethe
closestthingtoafuneralthatadarkelfevergets,asmournersarrive,laythecorpseonamarbleslab,
intoneprayersandinvocations,andleaveasquicklyaspossible.Theendofadrow'smortalexistenceis
nomorepleasantthantherestofherlife.Oncethemournershavedepartedtheplazaandclosedthe
gatesbehindthem,theghoulsemergefromtheirhidingplacesandswarmeachfreshcorpse.viciously
fightingforposition.Thebodyisrippedasunder,thefleshquicklyconsumed,andthebonescracked
openformarrowandscatteredthroughoutthedistrict.Theghoulsunderstandtheirpartintheritualand
restrainthemselvesfromfeastinguntilthemournersaresafelyaway.ThecreaturesalsokeepNecropolis
Squareclearofbonesandstraybodyparts.

D2.OsseusTower
Severalghettoresidentsarenecromancerswhoshuntheirfellowdrowandprefertokeepcompanywith
thedead.ThemostnotoriousisMorresus(CEmalelichwizard16),adrowlichwhosetowerrisesfrom
theghettolikeanenormousbonyfinger.Infact,hisundeadminionsbuiltthestructureoutofhalf
chewedbonesthatwerestrewnaboutthedistrict,andthetowerisadisturbingsight.Mostofthe
undeadthatdwellnearthetowerareunderthelich'scontrolandkeepthemselvesbusyonhisvarious
inscrutableerrands.TheyignorepassersbyunlessMorresusrequireslivingsubjectsforhislatest
experimentsorasnewmembersofhisundeadhorde.GhettoresidentsthinkthatMorresusisbidinghis
timewhilehegatherspower,preparingforthedaywhenhewilltrytoseizecontrolofthedistrictand
possiblyallofEerieSinlo.

D3.SarcomaKeep
Thiskeepwasonceamassivemausoleumforawealthydrowfamilywhosenameisnowforgotten.Since
theundeadtookovertheghetto,themausoleumhashousedasuccessionofnecromancersand
autonomousundead,eventuallygainingitscurrentmoniker.Thekeepremainsanimposingand
forbiddingstructure,itsblackcrenellatedwallsrisingupfourfullstories.ThecurrentoccupantisKhovad
(CEmalehalfdrowvampirefighter13),aformerminionofthevampirewarlordTelagos.Khovadturned
againsthismasterandledotherservantsinrevolt,destroyingtheoldercreatureandtakingoverthe
keep.Khovadhasbecomeeverybitasruthlessandviolentashisoldmaster,maintaininganetworkof
mortaloutcastsofvariousracesandacomplementofundeadtrollbodyguards.Khovadhopesto
establishthefirstundeadnoblehouseinEerieSinlo.Hisundeadstatusandhishalfbreedheritageare
stronghandicaps,butsofartheyhavenotpreventedhimfrombecomingoneofthemostpowerful
warlordsintheghetto.

D4.TheBlackChalice
MournersarenottheonlylivingvisitorstotheGhettooftheDead.Someboreddrowseekexoticrelief
fortheirjadedsensesinthedistrict'shandfuloftaverns,inns,andbrothels.Mostestablishmentsarerun
byvampires,liches,orotherselfwilledundead,whoseethepossibilityofprofitandthechanceto
recruitafewcustomerstotheirhordesoffollowers.ThebestknowntavernistheBlackChalice,located
nearNecropolisSquare.ItisownedbyaformerdrowpriestessnamedNyvaela(NEfemaledrowvampire
cleric10),whoenjoysherstatusasaleadingmemberoftheghetto'sundeadcommunity.Herclientele
areamongthemostdecadentdrowinEerieSinlo,willingtosamplehorrificpotions,sharethecompany
ofundeadlovers,andputtheirlivesandsoulsonthelineingamesofchance.Nyvaelahasgrownrich
cateringtosuchtastes,andtheinteriordecoroftheBlackChalicerivalsthatofthefinestpublichousesin
theGhettoofArtisans.Guestsareadvisedtobewary,however,forsomepatronsneverreturnfroma
nightattheChalice.

D5.TheGrimGhost
Ordinarily,onlythemadorthepowerfultrytoliveintheGhettooftheDead.Butahardyfewseeitasa
placewherethedrowhavelittleinfluence,andthereforeaplacewheretheycanliverelativelyfreefrom
thetyrannyofthedarkelves.OnesuchresidentisAenyrra(NGfemaleelfranger10),asurfaceelfwho
haschosentomakeherhomeamongthewalkingdead.Whileontherunfromdrowauthorities,she
triedtoloseherselfintheghetto,onlytolearnthatasmallbutdeterminedgroupofmortals
adventurers,explorers,outcastdrow,mages,andthelikeweretryingtosurvivethere.Gatheringa
numberofoddallies,AenyrraturnedtheformerhomeofanundertakerintotheGrimGhost,an
establishmentthatcaterstotheliving.Comfortableandwellmaintained,theGrimGhostprovidesfood,
drink,entertainment,andshelterforwarmbodies,alongwithameasureofprotectionfromtheundead.
AenyrraandherpartnersahalfdrowroguenamedLeixaes,theHalflingbrothersThadandEmond,
and(mostunusualofall)theghostoftheancientdrowwarriorMaeletaruswelcomeanyandallliving
customers.Atconsiderableexpense,Aenyrrahadthebuilding'sdoorsandwindowstreatedwithcleric
spellsandblessingstowardofftheundead.Theeffectsweresupposedtolastforadecadeorlonger,but
sheperiodicallypaysdrowclericstorenewtheprotections.Aenyrraalsoemploysasmallteamof
professionalghoulhunterswhohavemanagedtokeepherguestssafefromtheshamblingcreatures
