World Shipping
Friday Sunday Sunday Monday Μonday 4th June 2010 6th June 2010 6th June 2010 7th June 2010 7th June - Friday 11th June he biennial Posidonia exhibition is yet again on our doorstep with only a few months remaining before the 21st edition of the world’s most prestigious shipping forum opens its gates at the 30.700 square metre, one-level Hellenikon Exhibition Centre from June 7-11. Some 20,000 trade visitors are expected to attend the exhibition according to organisers’ early estimates, breaking the previous record set in 2008. This number is likely to grow as the world is emerging from the recession with many of them expected to focus on three key growth areas, shipbuilding, ship equipment and service industries. Organisers also expect to welcome more than 1,700 exhibitors from 80 countries. Judging from the early feedback of some of the committed participants, Posidonia 2010 is eagerly awaited by the global maritime community as the dawn to a new burgeoning era for the shipping industry which has recently faced some of the most testing times in history. The show is about to begin so stay tuned and watch this space. Posidonia 2010 is sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Competitiveness and Shipping, the Municipality of Piraeus, the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, the Union of Greek Shipowners, the Greek Shipping Co-operation Committee, the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association, the Association of Greek Passenger Shipping Companies and the Union of Marine Enterprises.

osidonia will see a range of sporting activity from different sports including sailing, football and golf ensuring exhibitors will have a wide choice of keeping fit other than just roaming around the vast exhibition venue to attend meetings and seminars. And as Golf has recently gained Olympic sport status, it is only fitting that it also makes its debut as a Posidonia week sport this June at the birthplace of the Olympic Games. For the first time this year, avid golfing enthusiasts of the international maritime community will have the opportunity to test their tees and practice their puts at the Glyfada Golf Course, adjacent to the exhibition venue. A dedicated tournament is already being organised and more information is available at www.posidoniagolfplay.gr

And as the warm up to this summer’s FIFA World Cup, Posidonia exhibitors can resolve their footballing feuds at the Karaiskakis stadium, in a repeat of the 2008 inaugural Posidonia ShipSoccer Tournament. This year’s Posidonia Shipsoccer Tournament is directly connected to FIFA’s World Cup, as the event’s gold sponsor, Castrol Marine, is also a sponsor of the World Cup. But Posidonia would never be without the flagship sailing regatta Posidonia Cup. The event will ceremoniously mark the opening of Posidonia week and this year’s 5th anniversary coincides with another major occasion, the 250 year anniversary of its sponsor, Lloyd’s Register. Attracting experienced sailors and senior shipping executives from all around the world, the Posidonia Cup will once again provide the global shipping community with an opportunity to meet, reinforce old friendships and create new ones.
