Steel Crochet Hook: 1.60mm [US 6]. Tapestry needle.

GAUGE: 36 sts (6 shell repeats) = 4”; 20 rows = 4” in pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

CARDIGAN

BACK: Begin at top (shoulder) edge, ch 86 (92, 98). Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * skip next 2 ch; 5 dc in next ch – shell made; skip next 2 ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across; turn – 14 (15, 16) shells.

Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in first sc, * skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip

  • 2 dc **, shell in next sc; repeat from * to last st, end at **; 3 dc in last sc; turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, * skip 2 dc, shell in next sc, skip

  • 2 dc, sc in next dc; repeat from * across working last sc in top of ch-3; turn.

Rows 4-32 (38, 42): Repeat Rows 2 and 3, end by working Row 2. Fasten off.

FRONT (Make 2): Begin at top (shoulder) edge, ch 44 (44, 50). Work same as Back over 7 (7, 8) shells for 32 (38, 42) rows. Fasten off.

SLEEVES (Make 2): Begin at top (armhole) edge, ch 74 (80, 86). Work same as Back over 12 (13, 14) shells for 31 (33, 37) rows. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams across 14 sts from shoulder edge toward neck. Place center of sleeve tops at shoulder seams and sew in place. Sew side and sleeve

seams.

Rows 1-5: Work same as Rows 1-5 of Girl’s Collar. Row 6: Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc, * hdc in next dc, dc in next sc, hdc in next dc, sc in next 3 dc; repeat from * across working last sc in top of ch-3. Fasten off.

Girl’s Hem and Front Edging

Row 1: With right side facing, join to left front just below collar; ch 1, work 62 (74, 74) sc evenly down front edge, work Row 3 of Back across lower edge to corner of right front, work 62 (74, 74) sc evenly up front edge to just below the collar; turn. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, * 3 hdc in next st, 5 dc in next st **, 3 hdc in next st ***, sc in next 3 sts; repeat from * across, end at **; work across lower edge: sc in next dc; repeat from * across lower edge, end at **; 3 hdc in next st, sc in next st; work up next front: 5 dc in next st, 3 hdc in next st, sc in next 3 sts; repeat from * up front, end at ***; sc in last sc. BONNET: Ch 122. Begin at front edge and work in pattern same as Back over 20 shells for 24 rows. Fasten off. Back-Row 25: With right side facing, skip first 42 sts, join yarn and work in pattern across next 37 sts; turn, leaving remaining 42 sts unworked. Rows 26-48: Work in pattern. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Sew row ends of Back to unworked sts of Row 24.

Girl’s Ruffled Neck Edging

Row 1: With wrong side facing, join yarn at corner of right front; ch 1, work 30 sc evenly across row ends to seam, work in pattern across to next seam, work 30 sc evenly across row ends to corner of left front; turn.
