Charactercreationfollowsthefollowingsteps:

1. Beginbyselectingarace
2. DeterminethecharactersStats(STATs),theSTATsdeterminethestartingranksinthevarious
skills,withbonusesdeterminedbyrace.
3. STATsdetermineinitialCombatandNonCombatskillranks.
4. CalculateHP,POWandSPD
5. TogethertheGMandplayercandeterminerelevantbonusesfromthecharacterslifeevents.
6. Theplayercanspendtheirinitial14masterypointsontalentsandspellsthattheircharacterknows
atthebeginningofthegame.
7. Determinearmour,weaponsandotheritems.Typicalstartingequipmentincludesthecheapest
weapontheyareproficientin,thecheapestarmorintheirselectedstyleand250gc(whichcanbe
spentonothergear).

TheNonmagicalTrait
Somecharactersarebornwithoutaconnectiontothegluonfield.Thistraitmustbeselectedatcharacter
creation,itcannotbeselectedafterthecharacterhasbeenplayedandisonlyavailabletotheHuman,
DwarforUrkraces.Constructsarealwaysconsideredtohavethistrait.Thefollowingchangesoccurinthe
characterbasedonthistrait:

characterhastheTechnomagetalent
Defense,RangedorMeleecombatskillsareincreasedby+1atcharactercreation.

CharacterSTATs
STATsarethefiveattributesthatdefineacharactersphysicalitytheyareStrength(STR),Agility(AGL),
Fortitude(FRT),Intelligence(INT)andPresence(PRS).EachSTAThasavaluebetween110.PCscannot
functionwithastatlessthan3,while10isonlyachievableincertainSTATdependingonyourrace
(exampleElvescanhavea10INT,whileDwarvescanhavea10STR).Atcharactercreationtheplayer
splits31pointsbetweenthese5STATswithonlyone10andnoscorelessthan3.EachSTATprovides
particularbenefitsbothtorollplayingandcombat.All6sisconsideredaverage.

STRdefinesthephysicalprowessofaplayercharacter.Meleeattacksgainabonustodamage
equaltoSTR,andabonustoattackequaltoSTR.Characterscancarrycontinuously
5*STR*SZEkilogramsofweightontheirpersonatalltimes(or10*STR*SZEpounds).Acharacter
canthrowuptoSZE*STRkilograms(2*SZE*STRpounds)upto2d4meters.Acharactercanpress
10*SZE*STRkilograms(20*SZE*STRpounds)forFRTrounds.

AGLdefinesthenaturallimbernessofacharacter.Undernonseverecircumstancesacharacter
canalwaysscrambleupanynonshearsurfaceuptoAGLmetersinheight(rounddown).Under
nonseverecircumstancesacharactercanalwaysjumpagapAGLmeterswide.Rangedattacks
doanadditionalAGLdamageonasuccessfulhit.

FRT:fortituderepresentsacharacter'sabilitytoabsorbdamageandendureextendedperiodsof
exertion.Fortitudealsodeterminesthecharactersmaximumhealthpoints(HP),whereHPequals
(STR+PRS)+FRT*SZE.AtthebeginningofthedayacharacterhasFRTpowerpoints.Under
nonsevereconditionsacharactercanrun4*FRTkmwithoutrestorrunforFRThours.Acharacter
cansustainFRTspellsprovidedtheyarenotinterruptedandthetotalpowerpointsexpendedfor
thecastingsdoesnotexceedtheirFRT.Expendingapowerpointasasecondaryactionhealsa
FRThitpoints

INT:intelligencerepresentshowwellacharacterunderstandstheworkingsoftheworld,either
scientificallyorintuitively.CharactersunderstandINTlanguages.Offensivemagicspellstypically
rollsomemultipleofINTdamage.

PRS:presenceisacharacter'sforceofwill,andhowtheycarrythemselvesinconversationor
combat.Characterscancommandupto0.5*PRSminions,followersorsummons.Theeffectsof
restorationspellsaredeterminedbyPRS.

Mastery points
ThemaincurrencyofcharacterimprovementareMasterypoints,whichwillbehandedoutbytheGM
(Gamemaster)attheendofeachgamesessionbasedonhowmuchthegroupaccomplished.Theruleof
thumbforagamemastershouldbebetween3and7pointsagameforfairlyslow/longtermcampaignsand
35points/combatforafasterprogressiongame.Atcharactercreationcharactershave14masterypointsto
expend.
Masterypointscanbeusedtoadvanceskills,gaintraits/powers,advanceabilitiesandgainskills.Mastery
pointscannotbecarriedforwardbetweengames,theyrepresentspurofthemoment"eureka"momentsfor
thecharacterswhichgivesthemsomenewprofoundunderstandingthathelpsthemmakethemostofthe
"trainingperiod"thatoccursbetweengames.

Training periods
Trainingperiodstypicallyoccurbetweengamessessions,althoughthisisuptotheGM'sdiscretion.During
atrainingperiodplayersspendtheirmasterypointstoincreaseskills,hitpoints,andgaintalentsandspell,
ortheycanincreaseasingleattribute(inplaceofallthoseotheroptions).Onlyonetalentandonespellcan
belearnedperperiod.Asingleskillcanbeincreasedmorethanoncebutatanincreasingcost.
Ifyourgamesessionhappenstoendinacityorlocationwhereatrainingfacility/instructorofsufficientskill
isavailableyoumaybeabletoaffordsupervisedtraining,effectivelyincreasingyourmasterypool.Thecost
istypicallyleast500goldxthemasterypointtotalneededfortheentiretrainingperiod.
Ex/Steve'ssessionjustended,hewasgiven4masterypointstoimmediatelyapplytohis
character,buthewantstogainatalentandtrainsomeskills,thetotalofwhichwillcost6mastery
points.Therefore,hechoosestopayalocalschool3,000gold(aheftysum)forsomesupervised
training.
