Course Objectives:
1. Learn the overview of the building blocks of embedded systems
including memory types, communication interfaces and firmware
2. Comprehend the architecture of Processors& understand the operation
of parts and be able to applythis knowledge in simple programs.
3. Describe different embedded system components like Reset circuit,
Brown out Protection, RTC and WDT
4. Understand hardware and software co-design approach for embedded
system development
5. Understand operating system basics such as tasks, process, threads
and extending it toreal time operating system based embedded
system

MODULE-1
Embedded Systems: Overview of Embedded System, Design Challengeoptimizing design metrics, Processor technologies, IC Technologies, Design
Technologies, Custom Single Purpose Processor design

Hardware Software Co-Design and Program Modeling:Fundamental
Issues in Hardware Software Co-Design, Computational Models in Embedded
Design, Introduction to Unified Modeling Language, Hardware Software
Trade-offs.

Application Specific Instruction Set Processor:Introduction to 8051,
architectural features, instruction set and basic programming. Introduction to
DSP and study of TMS320c54XX Processor.

Embedded Firmware Design and Development: Embedded Firmware
Design Approaches Embedded Firmware Development Languages.
Embedded System Peripherals, Memory and Communication Basics

MODULE -5
Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) based Embedded System
Design:Operating System Basics, Types of OS, Tasks, Process and Threads,
Multiprocessing and Multitasking, Threads, Processes and Scheduling: Putting
them altogether, Task Communication, Device Drivers, How to Choose an
RTOS

Course Outcomes:
1. Understand the various crucial aspects of embedded systems such
as memory to be used and design Consideration.
2. Existing communication protocols and circuits like brownout
protection and watchdog timer.
3. Apply computational models in embedded design and use Unified
Modeling language for embedded system design.
4. Identify the components of microcontroller and DSP architecture
5. Know about the development environment for embedded systems
6. Decide on an RTOS by understanding the issues of operating system
for real time embedded systems.
