Position purpose
This position sits within the Waterway Health team in the Catchments Branch. The team is
responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of waterway management
policy in Victoria and working closely with the catchment management authorities to invest
in management activities to improve the health of waterways across the state. Working as
part of a small team, this position will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of a $4
million program designed to improve the health of Victorias wetlands and estuaries and
assisting with implementation of wetland and estuary-related actions from the Victorian
Waterway Management Strategy.

About the Department


The Department is tasked with ensuring that Victoria has the right conditions to enable
economic growth, while delivering liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities.

Context
The Group/Division
The Water and Catchments Group, in partnership with water corporations and catchment
management authorities, is responsible for effectively managing Victorias water resources
to meet future urban rural and environmental needs. The Group works across DELWP, with
agencies, Ministers, stakeholders and the community to balance the economic,
environmental and social values of water. This work helps deliver secure water supplies,
greener and liveable cities and towns and healthy waterways and aquifers.
The Branch
The Waterway Health team is responsible for overseeing the development and
implementation of waterway management policy in Victoria and working closely with the
catchment management authorities to invest in management activities to improve the
health of waterways across the state.

Accountabilities

Coordinate the delivery by catchment management authorities of a $4 million program


to improve the health of Victorias wetlands and estuaries.
Manage a range of multi-disciplinary projects to support implementation of wetland and
estuary actions outlined in the Victorian Waterway Management Strategy.
Engage key stakeholders in the development, implementation and review of projects to
ensure desired outcomes are achieved.
Manage progress reporting for implementation of actions from the Victorian Waterway
Management Strategy.
Prepare project briefs, reports and correspondence on complex waterway management
issues.
Provide specialist administrative support for key forums and working groups supporting
implementation of the Victorian Waterway Management Strategy.

Position Description

An appropriate qualification in science, natural resource management or approved


equivalent is desirable.
Previous experience in policy implementation and/or project management is desirable.
Strong technical/scientific background is desirable.

concise and grammatically correct language; ensures written communications contain
necessary information to achieve their purpose; uses appropriate style and formats
Planning And Organising: Identifies processes, tasks and resources required to
achieve a goal; identifies more and less critical activities and operates accordingly,
reviewing and adjusting as required; develops and implements systems and procedures
to guide work and track progress; recognises barriers and finds effective ways to deal

Emergency Response and Health and Safety Requirements


The department plays a major role in Victorias emergency response activities, through an
all-hazards, all-agencies approach. Staff may be directly employed for these roles or may
be called upon to support these activities as required following the appropriate training and
fit for work assessment.
