Shenzi Stainless Steel Coating Project; New Paint Trials

Scope
The intent of the new paint trials is to assess the performance of two alternative coating systems
(manufactured by Belzona and Chemco), for use to coat the presently uncoated stainless steel piping at
the Shenzi facility. The systems trialed will be compared to the regularly used Carboline system and
recommendation made for a path forward.

The two trial coating systems were applied, together with the Carboline system, alongside each other on
parallel piping. The systems were all applied using the same surface preparation and under comparable
conditions. Two areas were selected for the trial, a vertical section which allows the pipe to be viewed
at deck level, and an at height horizontal piping section which is more representative of the typical
stainless steel piping arrangement at Shenzi. Both trial areas are on the Production Deck on the South
side of the Facility. The trial areas are illustrated in the photographs below.

Recommendations
From quantitative assessment of product specification and qualitative feedback from coating
applicators, the product recommended for further use at this stage in the assessment is
Chemco Epo-chem RL 500. It is a primer and finish all in one coat. The system is a
moisture/surface tolerant coating where water, rain, and high humidity have no detrimental
effect on paint application or finish.

A determination must be made of the long term in-service performance of the coating. It is
further recommended to allow six months for observation of coating performance to assess its
performance in field conditions, before deciding to move to an alternative paint system.
