ANALYSIS:

This experiment focuses on the illustration of influence lines for different supports for a
double axle load. The Influence Line is where the load effect due, at a point due to unit load at
different positions across the beam. It is a useful method of measuring the characteristic response
of a beam to load. While Influence lines can readily be found by analysis, the results often do not
correspond to measurements on the apparatus and it is sometimes useful to derive the influence
line from direct measurements of the load effect in response to a moving load of known weight.
rbitrary. It is obvious that internal forces and displacements in any section of a beam depend on the
position of a moving load. An important problem in analysis of structures is the determination of
maximum internal forces in a structure caused by a given moving load and the corresponding most
unfavorable position of this load. This problem was solved using influence lines. The errors from
the results of the experiment is mainly caused by the faulty apparatus because the gauge reading
changes, however there a some human errors that may have also added to the said errors, such
as in the calculations, reading on the gauge and calibration of the apparatus.
CONCLUSION:
After discreetly following the procedures and instruction in the experiment and base on the
results that the group attained, i can therefore conclude that, just like the previous experiment were
we illustrate the influence line for different supports for a single axle load, the behaviour of the
influence lines remains the same for the double axle load, the peak of the influence lines is on the
the suppport where the load is directly applied. Furthermore, it can also be noted that The most
unfavorable position of a double axle load is its position at a section with maximum ordinate of
influence line. In order to attain more accurate results for this experiments, we recommend that the
apparatus should be fixed or calibrated properly before executing the experiment.

REFLECTION:

The data our group collected during this experiment is valid because we were careful to
follow the procedure and teacher instructions. When we made our observations and collected our
measurements we made sure to document them in our science notebooks. Our measurements are
accurate because we took three different samples from each type of crystals to measure. We then
checked and rechecked our measurements to insure accuracy. grow crystals, how to write up a
formal lab report, and most of all how to have fun in science.

APPLICATION:
When designing a beam or truss, it is necessary to design for the scenarios causing the
maximum expected reactions, shears, and moments within the structure members in order to
ensure that no member will fail during the life of the structure. When dealing with dead loads (loads
that never move, such as the weight of the structure itself), this is relatively easy because the loads
are easy to predict and plan for. For live loads (any load that will be moved during the life of the
structure, such as furniture and people), it becomes much harder to predict where the loads will be
or how concentrated or distributed they will be throughout the life of the structure.
Influence lines graph the response of a beam or truss as a unit load travels across it. The
influence line allows the designers to discover quickly where to place a live load in order to
calculate the maximum resulting response for each of the following functions: reaction, shear, or
moment. The designer can then scale the influence line by the greatest expected load to calculate
the maximum response of each function for which the beam or truss must be designed. Influence
lines can also be used to find the responses of other functions (such as deflection or axial force) to
the applied unit load, but these uses of influence lines is less common.
