ANALYSIS OF THE PHIL-IRI (PRETEST & POSTTEST RESULTS)

FOR SY 2012 2013, SY 2013 2014 AND SY 2014 - 2015

Graph 1 shows the Pretest and posttest result of the oral reading test for the last three (3) school
years of the schools in Batac I. From the said graph, it can be gleaned that most of the pupils were under
the frustration level during the pretest for the last three school years with SY 2013 2014 having the most
number of pupils under the frustration level. This means that most of the pupils scored 89% & below in

word recognition or 58% & below in comprehension. Moreover, the number of pupils who were classified as
independent readers was very low. The number of non-readers was remarkably low; however, SY 20142015 posted the most number of non-readers.
The result of the posttest reveals a significant improvement on the oral reading ability of the pupils.
There was a decrease on the number of pupils on the Frustration Level with an average decrease of 36%
for the last three school years. There was also an increase on the number of pupils under the Instructional
Level posting an average increase of 35% for the last three school years. In the Independent level, there
was average increase of 83% with SY 2013 2014 posting the greatest improvement of 108%. A very
significant improvement on the number of non-readers was also manifested on the graph after the conduct
of the posttest with an average decrease of 98%.
The improvement of the levels of oral reading ability of the pupils was attributed to the effective
interventions used by the teachers.

Graph 2 shows the Pretest and posttest result of the oral reading test for the last three (3) school
years of the schools in Batac II. The pretest result showed that most of the pupils in Batac II were under
Frustration Level. Moreover, the number of pupils under Instructional Level and Independent Level was low
while the number of non-readers is likely high.
However, after interventions have been made or implemented, there was a significant improvement
on the levels of oral reading ability of the pupils as reflected on the result of the posttest. It is revealed

from the posttest result that there was a significant decrease of pupils under Frustration Level with an
average decrease of 43% with SY 2012 2013 posting the highest decrease of 50. 35%. The number of
student in the Instructional Level also went high remarkably with an average of 92% increase. Likewise,
there was also an abrupt increase on the number of pupils on the Independent Level with almost three
times as much in the pretest in the last three school years. The number of non-readers also decreased by
an average of 79%.
The result of the posttest implies that teachers strategies in teaching oral reading skills are effective
in addressing the pupils problem in the development of their oral reading skills.

Graph 3 reveals the result of the pretest and posttest of the oral reading test in Filipino for the last
three (3) school years of the schools in Batac I. From the graph, it can be gleaned that in the pretest
conducted in the last three school years there are more pupils who are classified as readers in the
Frustration Level. The graph also discloses that there are only few pupils who are within the Independent
Level in terms of oral reading ability in Filipino. Moreover, SY 2014 2015 posted the highest number of
non-readers with 90 pupils.
The result of the posttest shows that there is a significant improvement on the level of oral reading
ability of the pupils. After using several reading techniques, there was a decrease on the number of pupils
under the Frustration Level with an average decrease of 36%. There was also an increase on the number of
pupils under the Instructional Level highlighting SY 2014 2015 with 43% increase. Under the Independent
Level, there was also an increase on the number of students within this level with 108% increase in SY
2013 2014. There was also remarkable decrease on the number of non-readers with SY 2014 2015
posting the greatest improvement from 90 pupils in the pretest to two (2) pupils in the posttest with 98%
decrease.
The improvement of results of the pretest to posttest was due to the effective teaching strategies of
teachers in dealing with the pupils.

Graph 4 shows the pretest and posttest result of the oral reading test for the last three (3) school
years of the schools in Batac II. It can be gleaned from the result of the pretest that most of the pupils are
within the Frustration Level in the last three years. It can also be seen from the graph that there was a
remarkable number of non-readers with SY 2013 2014 having the highest number of non-readers.
The posttest result reveals that there was a significant improvement on the level oral reading ability
of pupils. Under the Instructional Level, SY 2014 2015 has the highest percentage of decrease of 43%
(694 pupils). There was an increase on the number of pupils both in the Instructional Level and
Independent Level. Moreover, the numbers of non-readers dramatically decrease by an average of 83%
with SY 2013 2014 having the highest decrease of 93%.
