MARIN FLUID POWER (MMT 3102)
MODULE 2
Title: Introduction to Pneumatic components.
Objectives:
1) To know valves and devices of pneumatic components.
2) To understand of pneumatic symbols.
Equipments:
Pneumatic components.
Theory:
Pneumatic system is the technology that deals with the generation, control, and
transmission of power using pressurized fluid. Same with hydraulic, there are six basic
component required in a pneumatic system which is; an air tank to store a given volume
of compress air, compressor to compress air that come directly from atmosphere, an
electric motor or other power source to drive the compressor, valve to control air
direction, pressure, and flow rate, actuator and piping. For this equipment, there are
specific symbol. Refer books to understand the symbols.
An illustration of how pneumatic can be used for energy transmission is shown in
figure 1. In this example, pneumatic is being used in CNC milling machine. This
application involving the production of patterns and machining of 3-D shaped profiles
made nonferrous materials for the automotive, aerospace and marine industries as well
as molds for foundries. CNC milling machine is using pneumatic braking system on the
B and C rotary axes along with Ares' precision components providing high levels of
accuracy even when milling at high speeds in the toughest materials.
