Fromthe Editor.
Helloooo, Hope you are having a good summertime. Summer can be killing and with the temperature rising, the only people I can think of, who are having fun, are the ones swimming in the pool or in a river! This reminds me of the ‘Kali’ river of dandeli. Swimming in the clear water of that river? Wow...oops. Correction -> WOOOW! So, here’s the newsletter for the month that lives the moments of the past month— if you have been part of it, which is. If you haven’t, then the newsletter is the reminder of adventures that you ‘missed’. Life does not give you a second chance but GHAC will definitely give. So, do not grip. We’ll have similar events in the calendar marked sometime ahead. What have we got in this month’s edition? Check the listing on the left pane! Moving ahead. The meetup of the month. Without doubt, had to be the Dandeli Adventure trip. The schedule had river rafting, trekking, rappelling. The group celebrated HOLI as well. Do check out the photo albums of all the meetups. The link is given in the respective sections. Time for me to end with a closing note—”Summer Summer go away. Come again another day. Members want to have fun again. Summer Summer go away.” Pretty badly written. Eh? - The Editor.

Golconda Fort.
The first activity for the month of February—Golconda fort, situated 11 kms from the capital city. One of the interesting features of this fort is that the sounds of hand claps at the entry gate can be heard for quite a distance within the fort. GHAC organized a meetup for Golconda on 06-Feb-2010. Well, the first thought for anyone seeking adventure would be “What will you do in Golconda?”. As it turns out, people tried different ways to reach a point, of course ’adventure’ depends on what people perceive it to be. Around 10 people attended this meetup. What to do in Golconda fort: Trek, Photo Shoot, Knowhistory! Photo Album: http://meetup.ghac.in/photos/all_photos/?photoAlbumId=820145

Shamirpet Boulders.
Shamirpet, is around 20 kms north of secunderabad. Shamirpet boulders, in particular, offers rocky terrain. The place is a good one for beginners to carry out boulder climbing. GHAC had organized a meetup for shamirpet lake on 07-Feb-2010. This day had a very good weather, around the place, which added to the fun of trek. The trek sawlot of people gather and we are glad they liked it! So, What to do in Shamirpet? Hiking, Boulder Climbing, Photo shoot. Valentine dayspecial: DurgamCheruvu
The raidurgam bus stop witnessed a gathering of 32 people, in the early hours of valentine's day. An army of red had assembled to climb the boulders around the durgam cheruvu lake. Durgam cheruvu is an 'easy' trek. The place offers boulders. There are fewthat are hard and effort spent in climbing on top it, is truly appreciable. A quick round of introduction was carried and people set off for a hike. Few like me, went ahead with boulder climbing while few others got involved in capturing images of the place. More people joined in and the number increased from 32 to 36. A short trek, thereafter, lead to the lake. A quick photoshot for the photo album was done. The morning was pleasant as the temperature around the area was moderate. People went on short treks, performed rock climbing while chatting along. We assembled at a point (chosen by the organizer) amidst the lake for the cake cut. The cake had a heart drawn from cream and I wonder how did people feel like cutting the heart out on valentine's day!!! kidding. sure you got that. the cake was good. A quick walk back after eating the cake and we caught our roads back home. I appreciate the efforts of the person who arranged the cake and the person(s) who carried it all the way from the start of the trek to the chosen point! Thank you very much.

Ammuguda, Khoe ImamZamin
Khoe Imam Zamin in Ammuguda is a picturesque little hill not far from the city. it has steep steps, The hill is surrounded by water on one side, the steps are just 200 in number but quite a challenge . From top of the hill the whole bolaram, sainikpuri and tirumulgherry is visible. GHAC had a trek organized on 20-Feb-2010. One of the attendees, says—”Strangely, i have driven past this place many times and never given it more than a second glance. So was really surprised by the closeness of a nice mini-trekking location. Would recommend it for beginners and people trying to get back into trekking form ”. GHAC recommends this short trek for beginners.

Maulali Hill Trek
Moulali dargah, one of 11 heritage sites identified by Hyderabad Urban Development Authority(HUDA), is situated 25 kms from Nampally. The hills offer a mild trek experience, which is good for beginners and mild trekkers. This is one the regular places for which GHAC organizes the meetup. One such meetup was held on 21-Feb-2010. One of the attendees Mohammed Azmath had this to say—”I am newto this group and the trek to Moulali Hills was a great experience. We were 5 in number. Under the able guidance of Padmaja, we first took the steps half way and then walked the slopes. We waited for the morning sun to come-up and later went up and down the hill from different directions. A not so easy slope was conquered by Chaitanya and Anand. Overall the Trek to Moulali Hills was fun and a memorable one. ” Photo Album: http://meetup.ghac.in/photos/all_photos/?photoAlbumId=832814

Night Campingat Ananthgiri Hills
Twenty One people, headed to ananthgiri hills for a night camp. What followed was a good time and a good time which was dominated by singers! Ananthgiri hills is around 80 kms from hyderabad and offers a good place for camping. We found one such place for setting up our camp. From here, a good viewof vikarabad could be had. The twilight brought out some good views of the place but we were late, as usual and we had to get to work! 6 cars with 21 people reached the place around 6 in the evening. People got out of the car and got down to work, realizing that the fading sun would offer light only for sometime. So, the girls took care of the cooking department while the guys took care of setting up the tents and collecting firewood. Fewknewhowto set a tent and i was not one of them, sad. Fewgot down to cut/peel the vegetables while others were sorting out ingredients. Few guys volunteered to hold the torch and throwlight! With all the hard work, finally there was rice, dal and a curry, waiting to be served. There was light shower, accompanied by a gushing wind, when we commenced our food. Fewof us had to rush to save the tents, which were not grounded. The water drops were for a little time. Post dinner, it was singing all the way. Well into the night, the singing carried on and at some point it was decided that the group will go out for a night walk. A good walk and the singing began....again! We found a place downhill which offered a beautiful viewof the lit city far away with the starry sky. The moon with its beautiful crescent was a watch. We sat down and people sang fewgood numbers. One of them suggested complete silence and enjoy the view. A sense, which is hard to describe, set in. The singing went on! and when we reached back, it was time to play cards. A good time with cards. I learnt something, for i knewnothing about playing cards. The maha-idea of one/two of the members was to apply toothpaste on the face of sleeping humans. I'm sure they had a lot of fun doing so and in the process being 'called' by a person on whose face they tried to apply. The best part was the explanation of what 'actually' people thought the paste was! :-D We left the place with a pretty long ride back home, with of course, fun memoriesplaced in the brain! Dandeli Adventure Trek.
Howmany times do you get to have fun with a group of people you have just met? Answer: Not always. But dandeli, sure, was one such expedition that had a fun loving group and the ‘dolly gang’ was the result of the friendship and fun. The travel began from M.G.B.S and after a good 12 hr ride we were in Dharwad. From dharwad, it was a 2 hr journey to dandeli. The game of ‘dumb charades’ dominated this segment of journey i.e from dharwad to dandeli. Everyone was involved and I’m sure everyone was happy being part of it. Stanley farm was our place to stay. We pitched in our tents for our stay. The first day involved river crossing and river rafting. The river rafting was the highlight of the entire travel. The clear waters of kali river was simply watchable! Personally, swimming in that water was the best part. I was LOST, if you knowwhat I mean. The river gave 1 good rapid and the rest were of the moderate nature. The rafting instructors were good and friendly. The campfire was prepared for the evening and people gathered around for an introduction. A quick introduction and it was dinner time. The second day was scheduled for rappelling. We left early morning to the rappelling point, which was an hour’s drive from the farm. Since, the weather was sunny, it was decided to finish off the activity as soon as possible. The rappelling was good. Few were good at it and fewtried their best and completed it. I’m sure they loved it more than the guy who did it perfectly! The afternoon plan involved exploring syntheri rocks. The place was beautiful and with the water around it added to the pleasantness. Fewpeople chose to stay while the rest decided to go ahead and explore and ti was worth it! I wish we had more time so that more time could be spent there. :-( The third and final day involved Kavala caves. We had to climb down 500 odd steps to get to the caves and viewthe place offered was a mind pleasing one. A fantastic 3 day travel which, personally, climbs the chart of best treks I’ve had so far. Wait, did I tell you we played holi on the last day and then jumped into the river for a good cooling time! Photo Album: http://meetup.ghac.in/photos/all_photos/?photoAlbumId=843209
