Chaper 12 Management of Physical Environment

Classroom is a haven of self-enrichment and intellectual nourishment. It is where
the student-teacher interaction happens, and seeds of thoughts and ideas propagate. It
may be air conditioned, fan operated, or the basic manual agitation of air with any
crisp board or like materials. It may be concrete, wood, sawali or even just an open
space. Nonetheless, it is undeniable that it poses a great effect in the students learning
The question is how could a classroom properly manifest its purpose of helping
in the learning development? The answer is by proper management of the rooms
physical environment. A classroom is more than just an infrastructure with desks, tables,
boards, chalks, etc. It is an avenue, a reflection of an educational institutions vision for
the students and their learning in particular. With proper management, surely, a teacher
could easily transfer and impose proper ideas on students. On the other hand, students
would find it easy to grasp and comprehend the ideas given by their instructors. Also,
parents are assured that their money on education is well spent and well managed. But
how? In order for a classroom to be a successful conducive environment for learning, it
should, on the basics, be as neat, as tidy and as organized as it could possibly be.
Unnecessary materials, as well as wastes should be discarded, thus creating more
room for students creation and the likes. Materials must be systematic, hence, should a
need for a certain visual aid arises, time could be saved looking for it. Classrooms must
also possess preventive measures of materials, repairs and routine maintenance.
With proper management of classrooms, its not only become an organized class
environment but a healthy surrounding where knowledge is grown and properly taken
care of.

Chapter 13 Management of Routine

What could you even ask for when you see your students forming routine
in performing their tasks inside the classroom. For the teachers, it is a privilege when
they see that their students are actively participating and cooperating for the
improvements and betterment of their selves. However, we cannot deny the fact that
sadly, there are still many or let me say a lot more students who do not have this kind of
practice within themselves which could hopefully help them to accomplished things
Establishing routine is not that difficult. As teachers, it is important that we should
manage routine so that it will be easy for them to work on their teaching process as well
as for students to develop self-discipline. Some classroom events that need to routinize
by both the teacher and the students are getting the attention of students to respond to
a particular question or reaction, correcting homeworks in class, excusing oneself from
the class for emergency purpose or use of the comfort room, posting of visual aids on
the board, updating oneself of the lessons when absent in class, going out of the room
during break time, clearing the table and desks after performance of tasks, swapping of
partners on discussion, forming participatory groups and reporting and sharing of
responses. In addition, students should also routinize the maintaining courtesy in class,
arriving on time, while teachers should dismiss class according to schedule, have
sufficient quizzes when lectures are finished and have frequent reviews of lecture
before exams. After all, routine procedures are beneficial because it helps to lessen the
wastage of time rather think and focus more on other teaching. Establishing this
enables teachers to focus more on their lesson planning and achieve their desired
outcome or objectives. During class discussion, your routine will help you to be organize
and systematic in delivering your lesson so providing your students adequate learning
they deserve. It is also easier for the students to predict their teachers next move and
concentrate on the lesson. In the form of establishing routine, it enables both the
teachers and students to prepare all the time, so reducing ones anxiety.
