INT. LIVING ROOM, SEAN AND ZOES HOUSE - DAY

The house is BARE: virtually NO CHARACTER OR LIFE has been

put into it. You could easily REMOVE any EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT
to the place if you needed to. Wooden floors contrast
HORRIBLY with the FADED PATTERNS of the seating furniture and
the BLAND white walls act as a RESTRICTION to imagination.
Very reminiscent to a WHITE PADDED CELL.
Seated around the front of a SOFA are THREE YOUNG ADULTS. One
is a brown haired and brown eyed male: SEAN; the second is
also a brown haired and brown eyed male: Perry; the third is
a black haired and blue eyed female: Zoe.
The trio are playing 21s on a small TABLE placed in front of
Zoe; who is SAT on the sofa whilst the two gents are on
FOLDABLE CHAIRS. The mood is LIGHT and FRIENDLY with a GOOD
ATMOSPHERE and COMFORTING VIBES. We can hear the CASUAL
CONVERSATION but not the exact words being said. Suddenly
their words are decipherable:
Fuck it!

PERRY

ZOE
(Winces)
Tough luck.
PERRY
Every damn time man!
Again?

SEAN

PERRY
Go for it: I aint leaving til Ive
won at least once!
SEAN
And because weve ordered pizza.
PERRY
(Smiles)
That too my friend.
Sean COLLECTS everyones cards and begins to RESHUFFLE the
deck.
ZOE
Did I tell you Pehz that Ive done
a new painting?
No?

PERRY

ZOE
Here, Ill bring it in.

SEAN
Shall I...?
ZOE
Yeah, keep dealing.
The words KEEP DEALING appear on a wall beside ZOE as she
LEAVES the room. Sean DEALS out a card to each seat and
himself and then repeats a second time.
PERRY
(To Sean)
Its not a still life of you naked
I hope.
SEAN
Well now youve just ruined the
surprise!
PERRY
(Laughing)
Fuck that!
The two LAUGH as Zoe COMES BACK with a MEDIUM SIZED CANVAS
with a painting on it. Perry looks up: the painting is of a
dead man on a bed in an apparent suicide.
PERRY (CONTD)
Wow, morbid.
ZOE
Ignoring that: what dyou think?
PERRY
Pretty fucking good. You should
think about bunging them in a
gallery or something.
ZOE
Thats what Im thinking of doing:
Sean likes the idea of it.
SEAN
Yeah, gives your talent a
spotlight.
PERRY
And theres me struggling to colour
within the lines!
The trio LAUGH as ZOE EXITS to return the canvas back on the
easel she took it from inside the conservatory. As she does
theres a KNOCK on the DOOR.
SEAN
Ill get that.

PERRY
Puh-puh-puh-pizza!
Sean proceeds down the empty corridor and OPENS the DOOR.
Stood there is a PIZZA DELIVERY MAN with their food. His face
is hidden under a BLACK CAP.
PIZZA DELIVERY MAN
Double Cheese and Tomato and a
Chicken Combo.
Thats us.

SEAN

The Delivery Man hands Sean over the TWO pizza boxes.
PIZZA DELIVERY MAN
There you go, so thatll be eightenninety-eight.
SEAN
Eighteen... ninety-eight...
Sean takes out his WALLET and hands the Delivery Man the
exact change. The Delivery Man LINGERS for a second before
LEAVING; saying NOTHING as he does. Sean SHRUGS this off and
returns to the others with the food.
SEAN (CONTD)
I bear food.
PERRY
Sweet! You gonna eat the tomatoes
this time?
SEAN
Thats why I bought one.
PERRY
Ok, cause last time, you bitched
about how funny they tasted.
SEAN
I reckon it was just a dodgy batch.
The trio TUCK IN to their food and the next round of 21s
begins. Perry makes his choice through a mouthful of food.

PERRY

Sean deals him a card as we slowly BACK AWAY from them.

EXT. FLARED OWLS PARK - DAY

Sean and Zoe are SAT TOGETHER on a PARK BENCH. Zoe is LEANING
against Sean: comforted by his arm AROUND her. A cute couple.

They seem CONTENT with one anothers COMPANY. Sean is
SCANNING the park. Analysing the green plain to make sure
that it is just them two alone.
SEAN
I like it when the parks quiet.
ZOE
Its so peaceful, I just love being
outside in general.
A SILENT 5 as Sean INHALES DEEPLY through his nose and
EXHALES via his mouth, still SURVEYING the open green world
of the park: population TWO.
So nice...

SEAN

ZOE
Id love to go camping sometime.
SEAN
...camping?
ZOE
Yeah you know: grab a couple tents
and just spend a night out in the
woods or something. Theres
something about the fresh air that
just makes you feel alive.
A RANDOM JOGGERS passes by.
SEAN
Alive huh? You could become a
jungle girl and make shit out of
twigs and that.
They both GIGGLE and TIGHTEN their grips around each other. A
VIBRATION distracts Sean: he reaches down to his pocket and
pulls out a MOBILE PHONE. He UNLOCKS it and a TEXT MESSAGE
from Perry appears VERTICALLY on the floor.
The message reads: Hey man, do the two of you fancy coming
over to mine later? Sean replies, Yeah sure, what time?
Later ;) Sean expels a HUFF of LAUGHTER, attracting Zoes
attention.
ZOE
That Perry?
SEAN
Yeah, hes inviting us over to his
later.
ZOE
That could be good.

SEAN
Ive said yeah, we can head
straight there after were done.
ZOE
Thats cool.
Silence befalls the duo as they maintain their EMBRACE. We
linger for a few SECONDS.

EXT. PERRYS HOUSE - DAY

Sean and Zoe ARRIVE at Perrys house: very STANDARD and

RESIDENTIAL, no defining features to note. Sean KNOCKS on the
door THREE TIMES and waits. A few seconds pass and NO
RESPONSE. Sean tries AGAIN to NO AVAIL.
SEAN
Weird, surely hed be in if hes
expecting us.
ZOE
Not on the toilet is he?
SEAN
Ill give him a bell.
Sean takes his PHONE out and RINGS PERRY. MORE SILENCE passes
as it eventually goes to the automated voice stating the
person cannot be reached. He puts his phone AWAY.
Now what?

ZOE

SEAN
No idea... I guess we could waitSeans vision is suddenly attracted to a CASUALLY DRESSED
MALE approaching them: ARCHIE. He looks CONFIDENT and
FRIENDLY. A smile BEAMS across his face.
Hey.
Hi, er-

ARCHIE
SEAN

ARCHIE
You here to see Perry too?
SEAN
Yeah, he er, invited us over...
ARCHIE
Same here: Archie by the way.

SEAN

ZOE
And Im Zoe.
Archie and Zoe SHAKE HANDS. Sean appears CAUTIOUS of Archie.
ARCHIE
Lazy cunt not up?
SEAN
Hes not answered the door, tried
calling him too.
ARCHIE
Hm, weird. Have you tried the door?
SEAN
Well, no I didnt thinkArchie walks between Sean and Zoe and TURNS the door handle:
it OPENS and the trio PAUSE.
ARCHIE
Surely hed remember to lock his
door...
Archie STEPS INSIDE the house. Sean and Zoe look at each
other and FOLLOW him. Inside the house seems normal:
UNIMAGINATIVE DECOR lines every corner of the building. They
enter the LIVING ROOM and find a MESS; items STREWN across
the floor and the appearance of a RUCK having happened.
Shit.

ZOE

SEAN
What happened here?
ARCHIE
Looks like he was in a rushArchie turns to Sean and speaks DIRECTLY to him.
ARCHIE (CONTD)
Trying to get away from something.
Sean is SUSPICIOUS of ARCHIE. The comment feeling a little
too PERSONAL but he shrugs it off anyway.
Archie FLAPS his arms up and lets them DROP back to his
sides: admitting he has no idea whats happened.
ARCHIE (CONTD)
Doesnt look good does it?

ZOE
Should we call the police?
Archie POINTS to her.
ARCHIE
Good idea. Ill ring em up. I can
stay here if you wanna go home?
Erm...

SEAN

ZOE
Yeah, no point being here if hes
not right? Youve got it covered?
ARCHIE
Yeah Ill be good. Look if I give
you my number, we can meet up
tomorrow. Talk more about this.
ZOE
Thatd be good.
Zoe takes out her PHONE and readies herself to note down his
number.
ARCHIE
Oh-nine, one-three... one, seven,
nine... one-four... five, four.
...Got it.

ZOE

ARCHIE
Cool, right then: Ill see you two
tomorrow.
See ya.
Bye.

ZOE
SEAN

Sean and Zoe LEAVE Perrys house. Sean CLOSES the door BEHIND
them and stops.
ZOE
You alright?
SEAN
Its just... weird... where could
he have gone?
ZOE
I dont know... Well just have to
wait until the police come over.

Sean acknowledges this with a LIGHT NOD and walks towards
Zoe. She lets him CATCH UP before WALKING WITH HIM.

EXT. FLARED OWLS PARK - DAY

Sean and Zoe are sat at a TWO-SIDED BENCH. Archie ARRIVES
soon after and sits OPPOSITE them.
ARCHIE
Hey, you two OK? Holding up?
ZOE
As good as we can.
SEAN
What did the police say?
Hm?

ARCHIE

SEAN
The police, you rang them right?
ARCHIE
Oh yes, I did, I did yeah. They
said that there wasnt any sign of
foul play or anything.
SEAN
But the living room was a tip.
ARCHIE
Not enough it seems, bit of a shit
that.
SEAN
Well now what?
ARCHIE
We just wait... see if anything
happens. We didnt find a phone and
that so maybe he must have gone
out. Not come back.
SILENCE. It seems an ETERNITY before its broken by Archie.
ARCHIE (CONTD)
So how do you two know Perry?
SEAN
Old friend, Ive known him since we
were 11 at Secondary school.
ZOE
I was introduced to him when me and
Sean got together.

ARCHIE
How long has that been?
6 years.

ZOE

6, yeah.

SEAN

ARCHIE (CONTD)
Wow, no ring?
ZOE
Were only young!
Sean smiles at Zoes RESPONSE, Archie does too.
SEAN
How about you: how long have you
know Perry?
ARCHIE
Strangely enough 6 years also.
Really?
Yeah

SEAN
ARCHIE

SEAN
(To Zoe)
Small world.
Very.

ARCHIE

The conversation DIES for a few seconds before Zoe REVIVES

it.
ZOE
We know nothing about you Archie;
tell us about yourself.
ARCHIE
Well... what dyou wanna know?
ZOE
Any interests or hobbies?
ARCHIE
I like to eat.
ZOE
Favourite food?
ARCHIE
It would be between pizza or
chocolate.

SEAN
The bad stuff then.
ARCHIE
(Laughing)
Yeah!
Sean only emits a FALSE SMILE. The time isnt right to be
cracking jokes after yesterdays events. Archie doesnt seem
cautious though to LIGHTEN the mood.
SEAN
What topping?
ARCHIE
Anything without tomatoes.
SEAN
You dont like tomatoes?
ARCHIE
Cant fucking stand them.
ZOE
Seans the same.
SEAN
I eat tomatoes!
ZOE
But you dont seem to like them.
Sean manages a BRIEF chuckle: Zoes right, he doesnt like
tomatoes yet still orders them.
ZOE (CONTD)
Do you have any pets?
ARCHIE
Nah, a bit high maintenance.
Sean NODS STRONGLY in AGREEMENT.
ZOE
Cats or dogs?
ARCHIE
Cats. I hate dogs.
ZOE
Whatve they done to you?
ARCHIE
Theyre very friendly and, Im not
into that.
Zoe nods ACCEPTING Archies reasoning.

ARCHIE (CONTD)
Sorry to bring this back onto the
topic but when was the last you two
saw Perry?
ZOE
We saw him Wednesday, he was round
ours, but Sean was texting him
yesterday.
ARCHIE
Right, same as me then. So none of
us have seen him since he invited
us round...
No...

ZOE

Archie is quiet for a second: THINKING.

ARCHIE
OK well, I guess all that can be
done is wait.
Archie STANDS up and begins to WALK AWAY.
ARCHIE (CONTD)
Ill start putting posters out and
spread the word.
SEAN
What should we do?
ARCHIE
If he contacts you, make sure you
find out where he is.
Archie is now too FAR AWAY to continue the conversation. Zoe
looks back round to Sean; who is still watching Archie walk
away. She puts a HAND on top of HIS.

INT. LIVING ROOM, SEAN AND ZOES HOUSE - DAY

Sean is sat on the SOFA with Zoe WATCHING an unknown film.
Sean receives a TEXT from Archie and READS it. The text
thread APPEARS on the WALL behind him. The text reads:
Someones handed in Perrys wallet, Ive arranged him to
meet you two at Fish Fest Lake Sean JOLTS forward.
What?

ZOE

SEAN
Perrys wallets been found.
Archies got the guy to meet us.

ZOE
Oh shit, where?
SEAN
Im finding out now.
Sean stands and rushes UPSTAIRS.
SEAN (CONTD)
Im gonna get ready!

EXT. FISH FEST LAKE - DAY

Sean and Zoe are stood WAITING by a bench near a LAKE. A man
in a COAT comes up to them: TRIGG.
TRIGG
Sean and Zoe?
Yeah.

SEAN

TRIGG
Trigg. Sorry about your friend.
Thank you

ZOE

Sean doesnt respond, instead his attention is seemingly

DRAWN to something Trigg said. Zoe SITS down with Trigg, Sean
JOINS them a second after.
ZOE (CONTD)
So you handed in a wallet?
TRIGG
Yeah, Perry Hague.
Sean SIGHS, Zoe prevents herself from doing so, instead
asking
ZOE
Where did you find it?
TRIGG
Lieafstalk woods, just lying on the
floor.
ZOE
Lieafstalk...
Sean seems to RECOGNISE the name but doesnt say ANYTHING.
ZOE (CONTD)
Why would he be there?

TRIGG
No idea, could go there and find
out?
SEAN
What was in the wallet?
TRIGG
Erm... there was a credit card, a
library one too...
SEAN
How did you know it was Perrys?
TRIGG
There was a drivers license.
SEAN
Perry doesnt drive.
ZOE
Shit, he doesnt.
TRIGG
Oh... but the names the same?
ZOE
Must be two Perrys.
TRIGG
Well fuck... Im sorry, I thought
it was him.
ZOE
Thats OK, thanks for helping
though.
Trigg NODS, STANDS and begins to walk away. Theres a SILENT
5 as the duo watch him leave.
SEAN
Well that was a waste of our
fucking time!
ZOE
Dont be like that.
SEAN
Well its true!
ZOE
Its not his fault, he was just
helping!
SEAN
Well someone should have fucking
noticed!

Zoe doesnt carry on the argument, instead she GETS UP and
begins to walk off. Sean LINGERS on the bench: letting his
anger cool down before STANDING and FOLLOWING Zoe.

INT. SEAN AND ZOES HOUSE - DAY

The silence in the house is as empty as the brick carcass

containing it. Its a strange sight to see it STRIPPED of the
LAUGHTER and CASUAL CONVERSATION that occurs inside.
We ARRIVE at the FRONT DOOR. A LETTER comes through the
LETTERBOX and lands on the mat. Sean DESCENDS down the stairs
and PICKS UP the letter. He opens it and reads the note: If
you want to know more, come to Lieafstalk Woods.
The cogs WHIR in his head for a second before the realisation
is made: its a RANSOM NOTE.

Zoe!

SEAN
(Shouts)

We CUT to Sean and Zoe in the living room. Sean is PACING

back and forth whilst ZOE reads out the ransom note.
ZOE
If you want to know more, come to
Flared Owls Park.
Sean PACES a little more before letting an exaggerated EXHALE
and then STORMS out of the house, leaving Zoe in a state of
SURPRISE and CONFUSION.
Sean!

EXT. FLARED OWLS PARK - DAY

Zoe HASTILY approaches Sean who is stood at a TREE looking
IMPATIENT.
SEAN
No-ones here Zoe! No-ones fucking
showed up!
ZOE
Give them time! We need to take
this slow.
SEAN
How can we when our friend is
missing! Do you not care!
ZOE
Of course I fucking care! Hes our
friend!

Theyre toying with us! Archie, is

ZOE
What? You need to calm down! Hes
trying to help us!
SEAN

ZOE

SEAN

SEAN

ZOE

Sean almost RECOILS in the unexpectedness of Zoes outburst.
This shock EMPTIES his head of all the RAGE and FRUSTRATION,
he almost seems aware that hes done WRONG.
ZOE (CONTD)
Until you grow up, I think, I need
some time away.
Zoe WALKS AWAY leaving Sean to stand ALONE in the park.
Theres a SILENT 5 as he WORKS HIMSELF back up again into a
state of RAGE.
We HARD CUT to a SNORRICAM of Sean drinking ALCOHOL and
WANDERING AROUND the park SHOUTING and VENTING his anger. For
a split second, about ONE FRAME, Sean is REPLACED with
ARCHIE. The sequence CUTS RANDOMLY to Sean in different
STATES: laughing, shouting, angry, confused, drunk.

EXT. STREET - DAY

We cut to Sean in an UNKNOWN location as he takes a long,
LINGERING SIP from a can and LOWERS it from his mouth.

He stares at the can, ANGER FLOODING into him and reaching a
fast approaching BOILING POINT. Sean SPINS and LAUNCHES the
can at a wall. The contents EXPLODE and SOAK the impact area.

Sean WAKES UP on the SOFA. His head POUNDS from the hangover
after yesterdays booze-up. He SITS UP and ACCLIMATISES to
his situation.

INT. BATHROOM, SEAN AND ZOES HOUSE - DAY

We face the mirror HEAD ON as Sean stares at himself. Theres

a SILENT 15 as he EXAMINES himself: analysing, detailing,
trying to work out what is looking back at him. A husk? Is
this him? What has he become?
Several words and phrases APPEAR on the walls: Regret it?;
What am I? and other HEAVY thoughts. Hes interrupted by a
TEXT MESSAGE: Archie. It reads: you need to watch the news
Sean gives one final SIGH before EXITING the bathroom.

The TV is showing a NEWS CHANNEL: the reporting is detailing

a HUGE STORY on the missing Perry Hague.
REPORTER
The body was found in the early
hours of the morning inside a tent
and has since been identified as
the recently missing Perry Hague.
Sean stares at the TV: EMOTIONLESS. Its as if he isnt able
to PROCESS the words the reporter is saying.
REPORTER (CONTD)
We have the discoverer of the body
here with usThe camera pans slightly to reveal ARCHIE stood beside the
reporter.
REPORTER (CONTD)
-how did you, come across the body?
ARCHIE
Well I was out walking my dog when
she start going crazy and, and I
followed her, curious, and... there
it was... he was just lying there
in a tent.

REPORTER
Thank you, his body however wasnt
the only oneSean turns the TV OFF and THROWS the remote. He takes out his
PHONE and CALLS Zoe. We see this process APPEAR on the wall
BEHIND him. Its UNCLEAR whether or not the call actually
goes through.
SEAN
I knew I was right about you! Its
you and that Archie guy isnt it?
Probably fucking him too! No wonder
youre not helping me! Well fuck
you!
Sean then calls Archie: we again, see this on the WALL.
SEAN (CONTD)
Can you come over? We need to talk.

Archie and Sean are SAT on SEPARATE SOFAS. Despite Seans

invitation its clear that they havent spoken since Archie
arrived. The SILENCE and TENSION is so thick you could climb
it. Archie BRAVELY BREAKS this silence.
ARCHIE
Sorry about Perry, we can go to
Lieafstalk ifSEAN
Shut the fuck up.
Archie is TAKEN BACK by this.
ARCHIE
I cant imagine what youreSEAN
Youre fucking her arent you?
Excuse me?

ARCHIE

SEAN
You and Zoe.
(Patronising)
Are. Fuck-ing.
ARCHIE
No were not.

SEAN
Where is she then? Pulling her
knickers up in your bedroom as we
speak! How do you even know where
to find the body? Because you put
it there.
ARCHIE
I was walking my dog.
SEAN
You hate dogs! You said it
yourself! You. Dont make sense. I
should have known from the start.
You suddenly appear when Perry goes
missing and offer to help, and you
then find the fucking body?
ARCHIE
Believe whatever the fuck you want,
its the truth!
Archie stands up and LEAVES the house. The door SLAMS behind
him. Sean, feeling the FRUSTRATION and SUSPICION RISE paces
around the room. He speaks to HIMSELF as the camera jumps
about, creating a sense of DISORIENTATION.
SEAN
Hes denying but I know the truth.
Its him, has to be. A dog, a
fucking dog!
(Laughs)
Yeah right! Stupid PRICK! I know,
ooh, do I fucking know. Tail
between his legs. I should see
where he runs to.
(Snaps fingers)
Yes! Catch in the act, Zoe will be
there too, show them both who they
really are.
Sean SPINS around as if someone where there.
SEAN (CONTD)
(Shouts)
And Im the cunt apparently.
Sean RUSHES out of the house.
SEAN (CONTD)
Ill show you whos the cunt!

EXT. PATHWAY, LIEAFSTALK WOODS - DAY

Archie walks PAST us, a few seconds later SEAN APPEARS. He
MAINTAINS HIS DISTANCE trying not to get caught. He PASSES
the camera shortly after.

We are now BEHIND Sean as he continues to FOLLOW Archie. The
words I have you now and other suspicion-induced phrases
appear along the pathway and surrounding area.
EXT. CAMPSITE, LIEAFSTALK WOODS - DAY
Sean FOLLOWS Archie to the CAMPSITE. There are TWO TENTS
cordoned off with POLICE TAPE and TWO POLICEMEN GUARDING
them.
ARCHIE
(Aloud)
Here we are Sean.
Archie shows some ID to the officers and walks PAST them.
Sean attempts to walks past too but thy STOP him.
POLICE OFFICER
Sorry you cantSean draws a GUN from seemingly NOWHERE and KILLS them. The
shots BOOM and ECHO through the woods. Archie is stood in
FRONT of one of the tents. Sean walks up behind him and
POINTS the gun at the back of his head.
SEAN
Youre done, I know its you.
ARCHIE
Open the tent then, prove it.
Sean PAUSES, CONSIDERING Archies challenge. Sean CAUTIOUSLY
walks around him and SLOWLY UNZIPS the tent. He PARTS the
flaps and finds the dead bodies of Zoe... and himself. Lying
there with BLOOD all over the walls of the tent. Sean is
CONFUSED, UNSURE with what hes seeing.
SEAN
What is this?
ARCHIE
Where it all began...
SEAN
You fucking killed her!
ARCHIE
More importantly: why are you
there?
Sean AIMS the gun INCHES from Archies FOREHEAD. His
breathing has become more ERRATIC. The anger TAKING OVER.
SEAN
This is a sick joke! Youre fucked
up in the head. You killed them
both! Her and Perry!

ARCHIE
Not me: us.
SEAN
No! No! Dont put this on me, I had
nothing, to do with it.
ARCHIE
You had everything to do with this
Archie.
Sean is STUNNED for a couple
being made in his head. Each

There is now a SNORRICAM of ARCHIE responding to him.
ARCHIE
You created this world.
We return to normal shots.
SEAN
Why would I do that?

Sean is SILENT. PROCESSING. CALCULATING. WORKING IT OUT.
Words keep APPEARING but this time theyre JUMBLED. Some
UNREADABLE. Every THOUGHT, every BELIEF Sean has had, that
Archie has had, now EXPOSED to the outside-open. If it even
is the open. Who knows where we actually are.
Sean slowly walks closer to Archie.

The camera FLOATS down and MOVES BACK to reveal ARCHIES DEAD
BODY lying on the floor. GUN by his lifeless hand. LITTERED
around the floor are EMPTY CANS of alcohol and what appears
to be DRUGS too. The TV is ON but MUTED. On the screen are
THREE PHOTOS: SEAN, ZOE and PERRY. The photos are old, like
they were SUPPLIED to the NEWS STATION. The topic of the
report can be identified by only one HEADLINE at the bottom:
CAMPING HOMICIDE VICTIMS IDENTIFIED.
The house itself has changed: PHOTO FRAMES of the VICTIMS and
ARCHIE are dotted around; taken by one another when theyve
hung out. DVDs line the SHELF, detailing a VARIED amount of
movie taste. BOARD GAMES can be seen in their boxes stakced
MESSILY. They were used RECENTLY. This house has LIFE, or DID
HAVE.
We LINGER on Archies lifeless body for a few more seconds.
Fade to BLACK.
