My newer book information page at Qi Men Dun Jia

 Preparing for Renewal
It has been passed more than ten years since I wrote this page. When I opened here, there are very few pages of Qi Men Dun Jia, and I could not find other sites of the same themes. It was difficult for western people to read Chinese/Japanese Kanji(

 — Hanzi) text in browser. Therefore, I must have made the pages with Hanzi image. But today, I can find a lot of Forums, Group or Organizations, Blogs, Books, Softwares and other many kinds of resources. And Unicode allows me Hanzi an English text page without Hanzi images. I made up my mind to re-new this page with some of these new materials, espetially new Chinese books introduced below. And, one more new thing is, as written in above, I joined Five-arts Forum, Fivearts.net. This time, I'M NOT ALONE. This is really great thing for me. I can share and exchange many information there.
Qi Men Dun Jia
(or Qimendunjia) is one of the most powerful oracles, to know both good luck and bad luck in aspects of time and space(direction).
Qi
means mysterious or strange in usual, but in Takeda theory here, it means valuable or holy.
 Men
 means a gate, and
 Dun
means hidden or escaped(to make hidden), and
 Jia
is the first one of ten stems, which is considered as the most sacred in this method.  In Dun Jia(or Dunjia) theory, we use a kind of direction chart called Pan, which is drawed as a square divided into nine blocks( 3 x 3. eight directions and centre ). In each directional block, one of the eight gates is positioned. We put away Jia(because of its holiness) and use other nine stems to put them into Dun Jia Pan chart at first, and after several process of making, Jia comes into the Pan chart from one of the eight gates. And that's why this method is called Qi Men Dun Jia.  I have read about at least three kinds of Dunjia in Japan. So called Sangen, Tohru, and Takeda. Moreover, I've seen more several kinds of Dunjia, of which groups were not clear to me. And perhaps, there might be other kinds of  Dunjia I have never known. This is one of the most typical characteristics of Dunjia. In ancient age, those who won using Dunjia tried to keep it as top-secret, and suppressed Dunjia-masters to prevent from Dunjia-secret leaking to the enemies of the governors.  Many Dunjia-masters were arrested, but they'd never made the secret of Dunjia clear. Instead, they made up counterfeit methods as 'Dunjia'. That's why we can find many kinds of Dunjia, and lost which is the original one today.  As I cannot write about whole kinds of Dunjia, I'll write some articles based on 'Takeda theory', which I think the most reasonable one of today's Japanese Dunjia.
1.Basic Background
1.1 Heavenly Chi and Earthly Chi
We need to have some knowledges to learn Qi men dun jia. The most basic one is Chinese calendar for Dun Jia.  Because Dun Jia is the scholarship for studying controls of heavnly Chi and Earthly Chi by time factor, using Chinese calendar. Both of Chi are symbolysed by Ten Stems. But meaning of them are different. Celestial ones are related to moving sun, and others are related to the earth, especially directions. This means, that we use the same symbols to indicate status of cosmic energy in different aspects. I suppose it is easy to be confused, but I believe, we should distinguish heavenly stems and earthly stems clearly. They are not the same.

1.2 Yin Dun and Yang Dun
There are two ways of heavenly Qi's moving, Yin Dun and Yang Dun. Both are concerned with moving of Earth around the sun. This circulation of energy concerned with time can be comprehend as revolution of earth like following:
[Figure 1: Cyclic moving of Yin and Yang energy]
 +++++ Yang energy stream ----- Yin energy stream  Jan. Feb. Mar. Apl. May Jun. Jul. Aug. Sep. Oct. Nov. Dec.... . . - Yang Dun -----------------|----- Yin Dun -------------------|---- - - | | | | | summer | winter | solstice | solstice | | | | spring equinox | autumn equinox | | | | | | Yang peak | Yin peak | ++|++ | --|-- -- | +++ | +++ | --- | --- --- | +++ | +++ | ---- | --- --- | +++ | +++ | ---- | --- |+++ | +++ | ---- | ------------0--------------------------------0-------------------------- +++ | -- | --- | +++ | +++++ | -- | -- | ++++ | + +++++ | ----- | ----- | ++++ | +++ ++ | --- | --- | ++++ | ++++ | ----- | +++++ | Yin bottom | Yang bottom ------ Yang Dun ------------|------------ Yi Dun -------------|--- - -
We should remember how streams influence each other when we use Dun Jia. And one more, this is a factor of time. In the Dun Jia theory, it is important to watch both time( or seasonal) factor and space( or directional ) factor.
1.3 Earthly Stems
Originally, they are considered as Twelve Branches. In Dun Jia way, included stems of branches are used at first.  According to ancient Chinese phylosophy, people think heaven are moving, and earth are staying. Therefore, twelve branches are always set at the same position, despite stems are changing their positions by time passing.
1.4 San Qi
San Ji
means three high-valued symbolic agents and consists of , and .
1.5 Liu Yi
iu Yi
( six symbolic flags of the king and feudal lords. ) is a stem which is be rearranged by hidden Jia.  It consists of , , , , and . Yin Dun is a period from summer solstice to next winter solstice. When during the Yin Dun period, Yin energy is born and increasing its power day by day. Yang Dun is a period from winter solstice to next summer solstice. During the Yang Dun period, Yang energy is increasing.
