A Vision for USA Baseball

Beginning in late 2014, USA Baseball took an important step in
supporting its national team players, coaches and staff by launching a
philanthropic arm of its alumni relations department, the USA Baseball
Alumni Association.

H
PLAYING FOR YOUR COUNTRY
is one of the most extraordinary
opportunities an athlete will ever
experience and that sentiment has
been confirmed year after year
by the athletes that wear the red,
white and blue.
Paul V. Seiler
Executive director/CEO, USA Baseball

All funds generated by the USA Baseball Alumni Association are

transferred to the USA Baseball national teams as the sole beneficiary
of the generous support of donors. Since its launch, the Alumni
Association has become one of USA Baseballs principal strategic
priorities. By generating critical financial resources, USA Baseball is
able to provide unprecedented opportunities for its USA Baseball
national team players, coaches and staff, and enables USA Baseball to
invest in areas that build champions on the field and in life.
The USA Baseball Alumni Associations vision is to generate
philanthropic support for the benefit of USA Baseballs current and
future national team players, coaches and staff, while communicating
donor impact on a regular basis. The Association also recognizes the
fundamental role that supporters play in the future of Team USA and is
committed to provide stewardship at all levels.
The USA Baseball national teams do more than just represent the
United States in international competition they inspire achievement
in all Americans. Your support puts individual athletes, coaches
and staff on the track to success and helps inspire Americans in an
extraordinary way.

A Message from Our CEO

Dear Alumni,
On behalf of everyone at USA Baseball, I want to thank you for considering the unique opportunity to support
Team USA. Our commitment to developing talented young athletes and stewards of our sport are not limited
to the World Baseball Classic, Pan American Games, World Cups, Pan American Championships and other
international events it is a part of our everyday life.
As every one of our alumni know, it takes years of sacrifice and commitment to just have the opportunity to
represent the United States on the international stage. Your support is instrumental as we work to provide
unprecedented opportunities for amateur baseball players all across the country.
In 25 years with USA Baseball, Ive been blessed to work for so many of the great young athletes that have
represented the U.S. abroad. Ive witnessed the life-long friendships that are created and the trials and triumphs
of international play. Playing for your country is one of the most extraordinary opportunities an athlete will ever
experience and that sentiment has been confirmed year after year by the athletes that wear the red, white and blue.
It is that same passion for this opportunity that our staff brings to the office every day, and we want to ensure that
generations of young athletes will have the same extraordinary opportunities of the USA Baseball alumni before
them and continue to make new history for the organization.
I hope that as you browse the pages, you will begin to understand the
impact that you can create for national team players, coaches and
staff. It is because of your generosity that the Team USA spirit can
thrive, for many years and gold medals to come.
Best wishes,

Paul Seiler

ensure that the United States continues to put our best foot
forward and provide our athletes the chance to succeed on the
global stage.

What it Means to Play for Team USA

Anthony Volpe, 2013 12U National Team
laying for the 12U National Team was quite simply the greatest experience
of my life. Not only was it an absolutely incredible feeling winning a gold
medal against Chinese Taipei in front of thousands of screaming fans, but
the experience changed and matured me in many ways, and I made friends that
I know I will have for the rest of my life.

courteous, and we should dress neatly, with our shirts tucked in, and after he was
done speaking there was no question that we all realized that we were playing for
the name on the front of our jerseys and not the name on the back. Up until that
time I only liked to wear T-shirts and shorts, but now, thanks to my USA Baseball
experience, I care a lot more about my appearance and how I carry myself.

Coach Webb and the rest of the coaching staff were truly incredible to play for.
They were inspiring, enthusiastic and motivating. They not only taught me about
baseball, and made me a better player, but they also taught me how to carry myself
on and off the field, which helped make me a better person. One of the ideals
they drove into our team was that champions
are selfless. They understood that all 18 boys on
the team were great baseball players, but only
nine of us could play at any one time, therefore,
major sacrifices would have to be made. Some
could not play their primary position, and others
had to sit on the bench.

Playing for Team USA also helped me realize how lucky I am. While in Taiwan I
met players from all over the world, from Pakistan, Chinese Taipei, Russia, and
the Philippines to name a few, some of whom I became good friends with, and
still communicate with to this day. After talking with them I found out that most of
these boys were lucky to have one bat for the
entire team, unlike our players who each have
multiple bats. It was interesting learning about
their countries, and I found out that some of
the boys may not be able to play baseball
much longer because they have to help their
families make money.

To help understand the importance of being

selfless, Coach Webb invited some USA
baseball alumni to talk to us. One of these
alumni was Cory Hahn. Cory was one of the
best baseball players in the country, but after
winning a gold medal for Team USA he suffered
a tragic injury while sliding into second base and became paralyzed. This injury
would have destroyed a lot of people, but not Cory. He faced this adversity and
went to college and graduated. Then the Arizona Diamondbacks drafted him and
offered him a job in baseball. Cory and Coach Webb wanted us to know that we
will all face adversity in life, but to be successful we should fight through it and not
give up. They said that some of us may not play much in Taiwan, but if we work
hard and push the players who are playing that we will win.

Of all the great memories that I have from the

IBAF World Cup there are two that stand out
more than the rest. One was after winning the
gold when we all jumped on top of each other
in a jubilant dog pile. The excitement and the
fun of that moment will be with me for the rest
of my life. The other was standing on the champions podium with a gold medal
around my neck. I remember hearing the Star Spangled Banner, and seeing my
family cheering for me from the stands. I was so excited and so proud. We all
worked so hard for that moment. We had a goal, to win it all, we did it, and we
did it representing our country.

I often think about Cory when Im studying for a test or when Im tired and I dont
want to practice. His inspirational story pushes me to work hard, and to never give
up. Another speaker was a United States Marine. He made us feel so proud to
be an American and helped us understand how lucky we were to be representing
our country. He helped us realize that we werent just playing for ourselves or our
families or even our town or school, but we were playing for something much
more, the greatest country in the world the United States of America. He told
us that we should carry ourselves in a certain way. We should be respectful, and

I feel truly blessed for having the opportunity to play for the 12U National Team,
and winning the gold medal in Taiwan was the highlight of my life thus far. Coaches
Webb, Freeman, Sekany, Vesely, and Krejci were phenomenal. Their influence
and teaching made us a team. Im not sure exactly when it happened, but we
went from a group of strangers who never played with each other, who were
competing against each other for a chance to be a starter, to a team of selfless
brothers who would do anything for each other to help us win, and we did it! My
USA Baseball experience was life changing. It made me a better baseball player,
it made me a better person, and the boys I played with on the 12U National Team
will be my brothers for life.
