OtherconsiderationsforShallowFoundationDesign
Foreconomicaldesign,itispreferredtohavesquarefootingforverticalloads
andrectangularfootingforthecolumnscarryingmoment
Allowablebearingpressureshouldnotbeveryhighincomparisontothenet
loading intensity leading to an uneconomical design
loadingintensityleadingtoanuneconomicaldesign.
ItispreferredtouseSPTorPlateloadtestforcohesionlesssoilsand
undrainedshearstrengthtestforcohesivesoils.
Incaseoflateralloadsormoments,thefoundationshouldalsobechecked
tobesafeagainstslidingandoverturning.TheFOSshallnotbelessthan1.75
againstslidingand2.0againstoverturning.Whenwind/seismicloadsare
consideredtheFOSistakenas1.5forboththecases.
Wallfoundationwidthshallnotbelessthan[wallthickness+30cm].
