TheweekofDecember7th13thistheHourofCode(alsoComputerScienceEducation
Week)sponsoredbyCode.org.Duringthistimestudentsaroundtheworldwillgetan
introductiontocomputerprogramming
nopriorexperienceisrequired
(bystudent
or
teacher).Students(orteachers)willchoosehowtospendtheirHourofCodethrough
gamebasedactivitiesonlineoronaniPad.Thereareunpluggedactivitiesforthosethatdont
wanttousetechnologyfortheHourofCode.Thisisaworldwideinitiativewithover100million
learnersin196countries!

Thegoaloftheeventistopromotecomputerscienceasanoptionforfuturecareers.Thehope
isthatbyexposingstudentstocoding,especiallygirls,studentswillbeencouragedtoexplore
codingfurther.TheDepartmentofLaboranticipatescomputersciencewillbeoneofthe
fastestgrowingandhighestpayingindustriesinthefuture.

iPads,laptops,computerlab,Chromebooksorevenunpluggedactivitiesthatincludeno
technologyatall!Teacherscanofferstudentsachoice,assignonetutorialforeveryone,have
codingstationswithdifferentapplications,partnerwithanolder/youngerclassroom,have
studentsworkindependentlyorinpairs,etc.AllHourofCodeactivitiesareselfguidedanddo
notrequireaccounts/signingin/signingupforactivities.
