In order to install Lync Server 2013, you will need some prerequisites in-place first:
AD-DS (Directory Services)
DNS
AD-CA (Certificate Authority)
Prepare your Front-End Server:
Microsoft Silverlight (this will save you time later)
Open PowerShell as an Administrator and run the following cmdlet:
Import-Module ServerManager
Add-WindowsFeature Web-Server, Web-Static-Content, Web-Default-Doc, Web-Scripting-Tools,
Web-Windows-Auth, Web-Asp-Net, Web-Log-Libraries, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-Stat-Compression,
Web-Default-Doc, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging,
Web-Net-Ext, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Filtering, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Asp-Net45, Web-Net-

When the install is complete, you now have access to 2 new apps: Lync Server Managment Shell and
Lync Server Deployment Wizard. (screenshot below)

Click on Lync Server Deployment Wizard and it will determine your deployment state. When finished, click
Prepare Active Directory. (screenshot below)

Step 1: Prepare Schema (wait a few minutes before running step 2 if your deployment has multiple
DCs as replication needs to take place between them)
Step 2: Verify Replication of Schema Partition (optional, but if curious how to, click here)
Step 3: Prepare Current Forest
Step 4: Verify Replication of Global Catalog (optional)
Step 5: Prepare Current Domain
Step 6: Verify Replication of Domain (optional)
Step 7: Add users to provide administrative access to the Lync Server Control Panel (screenshot
below)

Go back to the Deployment Wizards main screen and click Prepare first Standard Edition server. Feel
free to click Next through the process. The following will be installed/modified: (screenshot below)
SQL Server 2012 Express
RTC databases
Lync Server installation files
Firewall exceptions for SQL Server 2012 Express Edition

Open DNS Manager on your Active Directory server and right-click on your domain, select Other New
Records
Select Service Location (SRV) (screenshot below)

Create Record: (screenshot below)


Service: _sipinternaltls
Protocol: _tcp
Priority: 0
Weight: 0
Port number: 5061
Host: poins to your FQDN to your Front-End Server or Pool

*Note There should already be a DNS A record pointing to your Front-End server
Next, we will create 3 additional A records. Each one points to your Front-End server as well: (screenshot

Head back to the main Deployment Wizard screen and click Install Administrative Tools. After this runs,
you will notice that you now have another app available called Lync Server Topology Builder. (screenshot
below)

Click the app and select New Topology. We will now begin defining our Lync Topology.

Define the primary domain (domain.com), click Next: (screenshot below)

There are no additional domains supported domains, so click Next

Specify details:
City
State/Province
Country/Region Code
Click Finish

Define the New Front End pool. Since this is a Standard Installation, the FQDN will be the same as the
Front-End server. Select Standard Edition.
Now we will select the feature to associate with our Front-End pool: (screenshot below)
Conferencing
Enterprise Voice
CAC (Call Admission Control)
*Note Archiving and Monitoring can be setup at a later time.

Select the Collocate Mediation Server checkbox and click Next


Leave the checkbox Enable an Edge pool unchecked. Click Next
Define your SQL Server store by accepting defaults (screenshot below)

Define the file store. *Note You need to manually create this network share and give rights to EVERYONE
as the wizard will not do this for you. (screenshot below)

I created the share on the root of C:\. Created a folder called Share. Go to properties of the folder and give
full access to these groups: (screenshot below)
RTCHS Universal Services
RTC Component Universal Services
RTC Universal Server Admins
RTC Universal Config Replicator

Specify the Web Services URL (you should be able to use the default).
We are NOT going to associate a Office Web Apps Server at the moment, so leave that checkbox unchecked.
Click Finish and were now finished with the wizard.

Click Action > Edit Properties (screenshot below)

Scroll down to Administrative access URL and enter https://admin.test.com (substituting for your own
settings). Select your Front-End Server to install the Central Management Server on as well. (screenshot
below)

Time to Publish the Topology. Click on Action > Publish Topology > Next > Finish (screenshot below)

Open back up the Deployment Wizard and click on Install or Update Lync Server System.
In this step, well get the Lync components installed, request and assign certificates, and start the Lync
services.
Step 1: Install Local Configuration Store
Step 2: Setup or Remove Lync Server Components
Step 3: Request, Install or Assign Certificates (screenshots below)
Run > Default Certificate > Request

Send request Immediately to an online CA

Select your CA via the drop down menu. Click Next > Next > Next
Name and Security Settings (enter any Friendly name that you wish to)

Fill in your Organization Information, Geographical Information, and click Next on Subject Name/Subject
Alternative Names
Check the box for SIP Domain settings on Subject Alternative Names, click Next

Click Next > Next > Next


Assign the Certificate to the Lync Server certificate usages

Certificate Assignment, click Next


Certificate Assignment Summary, click Next
Execution Commands, click Finish

Now repeat the above steps for OAuthTokenIssuer.


Step 4: Start Services | Service Status | Check for Updates (screenshot below)

You can view the services and check for Microsoft Updates if you wish.

The Lync Server is complete. We now need to configure the Control Panel now.
There is another app that is now available. Its called Lync Server Control Panel (screenshot below)

Login with your Administrator Credentials. It will ask you to install Silverlight if you have not already done so.
Assuming that you already have Domain Users in your Active Directory, click on Users > Enable users

Click Add and search for the user you want to add.
Assign the user to the pool. Select which way you want the users SIP URI generated. I selected Use users
email address. (screenshot below)

Click Enable at the top after adding the user. Open your Lync 2013 Client (if you have Office 2013, you
already have the Lync Client. If you have a previous version of Office, you can download the client via the
links below:)
