Quiz Time!
The following characteristic differentiates a basic section from other
section types:
NEMA Type 1 enclosure
Accepts plug-in units
CENTERLINE horizontal bus
Gasket material
<click for answer>

The main differentiator for a basic section is that it is designed to accept

plug-in units. It will also have vertical wireways and a vertical power bus.

prev

skip

Quiz Time!
The main difference between a 15 deep basic section and a 20 deep
basic section is that the 20 deep section:
Requires a larger plug-in unit
Has the horizontal bus located 5 farther back into the structure
Has a top mounted horizontal bus
Has an additional 5 space behind the horizontal bus
All the above
<click for answer>

The bus structure in a 20 deep basic section is in the exact same location
as in a 15 deep basic section (with respect to the front of the section).
The extra depth results in more space behind the horizontal bus. All plugin units have the same width and depth dimensions only their heights
can vary.

Quiz Time!
Back-to-back section arrangements:
Are available as two back-to-back 15 sections (30 deep)
Are available as two back-to-back 20 sections (40 deep)
Have separate horizontal busses front and rear
Have separate vertical busses front and rear
Can be shipped in a six-section shipping block
All the above

Summary of MCC Bus System

Power bus system
Horizontal power bus
Distributes power to entire MCC lineup
Materials
Aluminum 600A & 800A only, tin-plated finish only
Copper 600A to 3000A available, tin or silver-plated finish

Vertical power bus

Distributes power within a single section
Copper only silver or tin-plated finish matches horizontal bus
300A tubular or 600A solid bar construction

Ground bus system

Horizontal ground bus
Top, bottom, or top and bottom mounted
Unplated copper or tin-plated copper
x 1 or x 2 size (500A or 900A)
Vertical plug-in ground bus (plated steel, copper, tin-plated copper)
Optional vertical unit-load ground bus (copper, tin-plated copper)
If one part of ground bus system is tin-plated, all parts must be tin-plated

Advantage of CENTERLINE Bus

By feeding the vertical bus in the
center, you can fully load the MCC
section from the center up and the center
down
Thus, the effective section loading for a
section with 300A vertical bus is 600A
And for 600A vertical bus, 1200A
Benefits for customer:
Flexible unit locations
Cooler bus operation

The following are true about vertical busses except:
Available as 300 and 600 Ampere conductors
Available with tin or silver plating
Available in aluminum or copper
Fed from the middle by the horizontal bus
All of the above are true
