SESSION 2: Instruction for Teachers

Session 2A and 2A
Introduction: 1. Teacher tells the students that they will be introduced to the term “summarizing” and “paraphrasing” in the session 2. 2. Teacher asks the students to click on the sub tab SESSION 2. 3. Once they get into the Blogspot, teacher asks the students to click on the link provided under the heading INTRODUCTION. 4. Teacher gives time for the students to read and reflect on the information in the slides. 5. Then, teacher asks the class what they have understood after reading the slides. 6. Teacher provides her feedback.

Session 2A
Pre Activity I: 1. Teacher asks the students to read the guidelines on how to apply 2-Column Notes before writing their summary. 2. Students can get the slides for the guideline under the heading SESSION 2A : PRE ACTIVITY I. 3. Teacher gives time for the students to explore the 2-column Notes. 4. Students are allowed to ask questions to the teachers via Ning online chat. 5. Teacher provides necessary feedback.

Pre Activity II: 1. Teacher tells the class that they are going to prepare for a good summary writing. 2. Students are allowed to work in pairs. 3. Based on the passage given, teacher facilitates the students to apply 2 column notes strategies as a starter for a good summary writing. 4. Students are allowed to discuss with their partners. 5. Teacher reminds the class that Two Column Notes Template can be downloaded from the link under the heading SESSION 2A : PRE ACTIVITY II. 6. Teacher tells the class that products are to be presented in their individual blog under title “Good Summarizing”. While Activity: 1. Teacher tells the class that they are going to do individual work. 2. Teacher asks the students to refer to the article “Homework” under the heading SESSION 2A : WHILE ACTIVITY. 3. Teacher reminds the class that Volunteers are welcomed to present their writing product in their individual blog under title “My S product”.

Session 2B
Pre Activity I: 1. Teacher asks the students to get the slides of “Paraphrasing Is Easy.How?” by clicking on the link provided under the heading SESSION 2B: PRE ACTIVITY I. 2. Teacher gives time for the students to read on the slides. 3. Then, teacher asks the students what they have understood from their reading. 4. Teacher provides necessary feedback.

Pre Activity II: 1. Teacher tells the class that they are going to hunt for a good paraphrasing skill. 2. 7 sentences for paraphrasing are provided under the heading SESSION 2B: PRE ACTIVITY II. 3. Teacher explains to the students that each pair must paraphrase at least 3 sentences through Paraphrase Self-test. 4. Students are allowed to discuss with their pairs. 5. Students have to print screen their results for the Paraphrase Self-test and save the file in JPEG. 6. Then, their JPEG files are to be uploaded in their individual blog under title “Good Paraphrasing”. While Activity: Individual work: 1. Teacher tells the class that they are allowed to choose which passage they want to paraphrase. 2. Teacher asks them to download the exercise worksheet under the heading SESSION 2B : WHILE ACTIVITY. 3. Students are to present their answers in individual blog under title “My P Product”.

Session 2A and 2B
Post Activity: 1. Teacher tells there is a Q&A session for them to ask questions. 2. Teacher opens a discussion field in Ning. For example: teacher may put “SESSION 2: Q&A” as the title for the field. 3. Students ask questions regarding summarizing and paraphrasing in the Ning discussion field. 4. Students receive immediate feedback from teachers. 5. Teacher also encourages students to response to other students’ questions.
