Language Arts

by Ally K.

Over the past month in Language Arts, we worked on our problem/solution essays. We also received a musher to follow during the Iditarod. The Iditarod is a dog sled race that takes place in Alaska. We tracked the musher, created a postcard and wrote three paragraphs about Alaska and the Iditarod race. This week we also went into “State Testing Mode.” We will be focusing on the NJASK for

This month we learned about genetics, different chromosomes and sex cells. We also learned about punnett squares. Every time we learn something new, Ms. K would give us a lab to complete in class. Everything we learn, we practice over and over so Ms. K can make sure we know what we are

This month in Reading, we’ve learned about so many things. We’ve learned about Greek mythology, which so far, is my favorite. The way that this fiction was written was just so well thought out and I can’t believe that the oracles back then were able to supposedly make up these stories, when some people today can’t even daydream these types of things. The name of the Greek mythology book that we read was Heroes, Gods, and Monsters of the Greek Myths. We skipped a few stories in this book, but we did read all of the most important and main gods of the Greek’s stories. We read some stories as a class, and some stories for homework. We began to touch on William Shakespeare. We talked about his history, and how he memorized twice the vocabulary that an average, grown person does. We also learned how he learned to read and write plays, even though he grew up in a family that was illiterate!

Team 7-3
Welcomes Ms. Sewatsky Ms. Sewatsky joins the team as Mrs. Farina is out on maternity leave. Ms. Sewatsky just completed her student teaching at Roxbury High School and is an excellent addition to the team.

This month we had fun in social studies! We started the Ancient Greece unit. We were introduced to the location of Greece and discussed how Alexander the Great attempted to conquer the world. We read Theseus and the Minotaur. For this story, we made skits news broadcasts, and posters. Then, we learned about the Minoans and Mycenaeans. We will continue to learn about the achievements of Ancient Greece during the next few weeks.

This past month in Math we learned about different transformations. We learned how to rotate, dilate, translate, and reflect a figure. We also learned how to find the perimeter and area of a rectangle, square, triangle, trapezoid, and parallelogram. We learned what base, height, width, and length of a side are. All in all, we learned a lot about different shapes and how they move. In Pre-Algebra we had a blast! We learned about the four types of transformations: translation, reflection, dilation, and rotation. Then we made a flipbook where we used the transformations on a picture. Next, we learned how to find the area of irregular figures, trapezoids, circles, and more. This helped us prepare for the NJASK. Also, we have been practicing mean, median, mode, and range. We
