department of urban design & landscape architecture.

I make my second year training in Bodrum in a construction site of hollyday village

of Aktur. for Limon Peranials. My third year training office is Promim (PROMiM

Cevre Duzenlerne Kentsel Tasarim Ltd. $ti.) ,which is in Ankara.

I was studied in Form studio at that semestre.I was worked on 1/1000 scale to 1/200 scale in my fourth semestre project in Antalya-Alanya. In this project my aim was increase the interaction of the city and the sea by re-designing the Hotels & residence district of "klopatra beach". I propose green collidors which are widen through the see and they will transform to the paths which are reach to see as a dock.

I propose new museum which is shape is octagon by insprated from the shape of "KIZII kule" , where is the symbol of Alanya. I preserve the terrace houses which are above the hill because of their harmony with the topography of the site.

While I was draw my buildings I, first of all, think the heat of Alanya and the privacy desires of the turists.

I want to connect the all sides of the "klopatra beach" by a curvi-linear pedestrain path. The areas, where the my curvi-linear path and pedestrain ways which area come from the inner sites, transform to sometimes squares sometimes only junctions.

Finally I made a maket of my 1/200 area to differantiate the design actually .

RE-THINKING THE bVEC;:LER VALLEY VALLEY AS A GREEN CORRiDOR:(2007-2008 fall)

I was studied in Form studio at that semestre. Our main theme was the

re-generaion of w Ovecler valley" where is at the center of Ankara. Ovecler

was one of the gecekondu" districts in Ankara. While the valley (as all the val

leys will be) will be a green corridor and will serv as a park for the

inhabitants of the Ankara the valley is used as a dust bin for the surrounded

buildings and the passers. To give the right of a valley to "Ovecler Valley", I

think the valley as a green Corridor and also a passage and also a wind collidor

which will prevents the air pollution and the healths of people of Ankara.

I propose 6 different areas for my city park.First part is the natural garden,

where is vegetated by wild vegatations and also the vines of the Ankara

district. In the second part of my park I use the topography of the site as an

advantage and propose terraced commercial buildings such as restaurants

and cafes. I propose gazebos to see the view of Ankara from the valley. Third

.In this part I propose sand hills, dry trees, burned trees and dry pools to

animate the future of our Earth. After this garden, I propose a square where

the valleys topography became more level. I think this area as a meeting,

sitting, watching, playing and resting area. My fifth area's theme is the water

so I use different water elements and surfaces in this area. In the area

which is at the northes part of the valley, I propose a 60 meters high viewing

tower, which is serv as a exhibition area with its firs 30 meter and which is

combined by the pedestrian paths by steel bridges .

RE-THINKING THE bVECLER VALLEY VALLEY AS A GREEN CORRiDOR:(2007-2008 fall)

I propose a linear way which is the backbone of the valley and a water

which is one side is artificial one side is naturel to symbolize the translition

between naturel and artificial in the project site.

I work on the sceles of 1/2000, (thematic sheme)1/1000 and 1/500. While

I was designing the site I first of all understand the topography of the site.

Therefore, first I solve the topography and make slope anyses so I easily find

the pedestrains routes which combine the two sides of the valley.

I differentiate the importance of the valleys to survival of the cities, like

Ankara. I will make reseraches about valleys which are serve as a green

corridor. I especially intersted on "Dikmen Valley", where experinced the

re-generation before.

DECENTRALIZATION/NEW CENTER FOR ESKi$EHiR. REHABILITATION OF OLD CENTER BY PROPOSING A NEW CENTER: ESPARK, DEPOLAR,RAILWAY, HALLER AREAS.

YESTERDAY-TODAY-TOMARROW

In this project I studied in Context studio. Our project site was Eskisehir

where the city need rehabilitation and a transformation at the center. The

city expands among the "Porsuk" river but cannot expand among the

railways because of the factories which are now not working. The area needs

a renewal and the center want to be jump(decentralize) to the north(campus

of Anadolu University).

Eskisehir is a city where the main pedestrain movements is form "Badem

lik" to campus of Anadolu Uinversity. However, the city is divided by first with

a naturel fault "porsuk", and then a artificial fault the railways. For the

survival of the city(for a center where is not at the center of the city at the

center of the pedestrian movement) and the continiuety of the pedestrain

movement, these faults must discarded. "Porsuk" was discarded by the

bridges(6 motor way seven pedestrain) but the railway not. Therefore, in my

project I propose the railways go down from under the city while it is passing

in the city.

I propose a new tram-line which is combining the west of the city to the

east, which is intersect with the existing tram-line at my new centers square

where will be work as a focus for the pedestiran and the networks of the city .

I propose tfunctional transformation for the old factory builings. I want

to preserve them but I Iso want to give them new functions. I transfrm them

such as Hotels, cafes, restaurans, museums, libraries etc.

I perceive "Porsuk" as a wind corridor and I propose it will serve as also a

green corridor. Therefore, I create pocket parks among the two sides of the

river which are in an interaction with the green corridor of the city.

My new center is the part which is like the missing part of the puzzle, in

the story of the movement of the center. Center of the city was pressed and

:pedestrian, way, green, tram).

I design my area as a c. b.d district for the Eski~ehir so I propse offices and

some hisg rise buildings and apartment type residences which surrounds the

north-east of my c.b.d district.

I use the old train ateliers and its lines as a train museum. I use the

tram-lines as a grid for my new shrubs .

In projects I always give the main importance to the pedestrain. Terefore ,

propose pedestrian frienly desigs so cities. To do not divede pedestrain

routes I change the routes of ways(sometimes underground solutions some

times change the route). The cities for, first of all, pedestrains. The green

network sis the second important thing for me. This green network usually

move with the pedestrain routes/paths. Parks are the places where the

green corridor became more urban, more lively.

In the idea studio we work on Kadikoy especially the Moda and the

Kadikoy port area and Havderpese districts.

IDEA POSTERS

In Idea studio we start to work by finding the different meanings,

synonymes and find the meanings "fracture for us", therefore, evrv student

made a poster in free dimension which is about the "fracture" concept of

them, I divide fractures Into three thinking of their In Kadikoy. MY fracture

types are: Naturel fractures, artificial fractures and semantic fractures.

Naturel fractures are see, hills, forests, land, water, river whih are also

fractures are the fractures whih created by the people by their choices, by

:heir build. artificial fractures which are in my project area are wide ways,

'allwavs, buildings, traffic and etc. The semantic fractures are so different

:hen naturel and artificial(men-made) fractures because it can be change

time to time, person to person, young to old, women to men. Semantic

fractures are the fractures which are really exhisting but can be exis in some

time in some where in some place. For example many people feel differrent

By my axial line and node analysis I find the fractures of Kadikoy. Kadikoy

divided to 5 different disticts by the different type of fractures. District A is

the Port and Hevderpase tram station area. This disctrict is the transporta

tion focus of Anatolian side of istanbul(buses, mini buses, teks! dclmus tra

dational light tram) it also includes the start of the Anatolian side's railways

(Havderpese ). People cannot reach to see because of these bus/mini-bus

stops so I propose them a new place where Is old tram care & repair places

at the east side of Havdarpasa station. District B Is includes the tsxt refine

center and inonu park. I see iSKi's area as a part of green necklace of the

Kadikoy I only propose some pedestrian ways where people can reach the

sea and can walk along the shore. C district is the hearth and the gravity

center of my project site(and also project).This district i includes tradational

bazaars of Kadikoy(with a grid-iron plan which done by British during Kmm

war), I propose this ccmmerclel area expands to the north to relieve the

Moda district and to feed my new network(transportation) focus, I propose

istanbul needs big open spaces culturel areas spor complex parks and es

pecially pedestrain friendly designs. Therefore, I propose for bus stops area

a big square where is only includes lights and some sitting places. I see this

square as a meeting, sitting walking, dansing, resting place for whole

istanbul because istanbul (polulations of it is almost 15 million) does not

have a real sqaure and a meeting place.

I propose a basketball complex for the place of taxi dolrnus's stops be

cause istanbul needs more and modern spor complexes for istanbul 2010

In my 1/500 project area, where is my new transportation focus, I have a

big problem. Pedestralns have to reach from the qauy(iskele) to bus stations

and to tram-lines, and also vehicles have to move from bus station to

Kadik6y and to the other sides of the city with also a way which across the

railways by a bridge. Threfore, I propose a new junction for vehicles where

vehicles can directly move out from the Kadik6y to the E-5, and can reach to

the bus stations. I solve the problem of pedestrian movement by use a slow

slope which pass 3.5 meters under the way while the bridge over the rail

ways start rise.

While I was walk around Haydarpasa Station, I discover that paople needs

eating, resting, reading places while they are waiting their bus or train. Be

for the passengers.

THE NEW SPRAWUNG CENTER AND ITS ARTICULATION WITH GREEN

Sartin is a small town in Black sea regionand also a bridge between Cay

cuma (Zonguladak), inkumu, Safranbolu and Arnesra. City called Bazaar by

the surrounded districts because of its location. However, Bertin's mind is not

dear because of Sartin does not sure what will be the future of the city.

Thefore, the city Is pressed by its surrounders. However, Sartin doesnot has

to make a choice between tourism, agricultere, history, sea. Barnn need to

surround these dewelling to be a real bridge and to reflect its esance. To

show the existing situation of Bartm I made a diagram. I put the Bartm

at the center of a circle and surround it by cevcume. Inkumu-boqez,

Amasra and Safranbolu where Bertm work as a culturel, commercial, histroic

bridge with its meaning, fuction and location. Bertm is the essance of its

region because Barttn dissolve the many features between this towns.

I propose Bartm have to preserve its dwellings, its dlfferances and also its

bridge function to be a unique, not ordinary, bazaar and so original.

Sartin is a bridge in its region but I think that all the cities are bridges be

tween nature and the artificial, rural and urban, today and tomarrow, and

also people and people. The city works as a bridge and because/also its

parts works as bridges in between each others. To differentiate these divers!

ties of the parts(bridges) of the town, I made a pafta which shows how that

distrcit bridge the different parts of the dty and what is the meaning

(importance) of that district/bridge for the city. I start from Kerner bridge

area, where is the enterance of the town and the also the only existing node

of the town. Bartm was surrounded by rivers/water like surrounded by

rampart(sur) Kerner bridge is the most Important bridge which break this

rampart/circle. It is merging/uniting the old city and the new sprawls along

the Ankara way. It is a place attachment by its culture, aesthetics, view,

identity and its structure. therefore it work as a landmark an enterance a

transformaer and so a node. But it is not pedestrian freinly bridge therefore I

propose two steel pedestrian bridges which unifies the two sides of the city.

These bridges also work as a sprawl of the city to the out of the historic cell.

In second stage I made a survey to see how and when the town

developt/sprawl and why developt/sprawl through that side. Bartm cannot

jump the river until 1960s. The town sprawls first of all thrpugh the its only

naturel link to the earth wthout any bridges. This sprawl is join to the center

by the development of center and the houses. then Bartrn developt through

the Orduyeri bridge and jump over the river in 1960s(first development of

this site si start with the conquest of Amasra by Ottoman). the city filled the

cell and want to jump but also want to use the advantages of Bartrn river,

which river is the only river can make transportation. Therefore city developt

throughout the river; terminal, port and the industry site( organize sanayi

bolqesi) founded in this area but the city forgot a thing, flood. In may 1998

Bartm lives the biggest flood of its history %80 of the city reamins under the

flood water and the town loose population. After the flood the towns change

its development direction to the Ankara way. Now a new administration

center, where includes the municipality facilities(tapu-kadastro-imar-sular

idaresi- belediye baskanhqt), governers office and courthouse, founded

rightside of the way which pass over the Kemer bridge. The town offended

the river and start to see the river as an enemy .

Bartin is a green town. Evert garden, every side is vey green. However,

Bartm is not have more public open spaces/green areas, also have private

green areas. Bartm needs, if it want to be a city, recreation areas and city

parks but it only have two pocket parks in the historic cell and a one small

park at Gazhane cape(you cannot find this park without a map or you are

not a inhabitant of Bartrn). However, the nursery, where is at the Ifet side of

river and Kemer kopru, using only as an rural open space and people cannot

enter or pass over in it. First I propose some pedestrian routes where people

can pass thtrrough the nursery and reach the ~ar§1 and Garda Bazaar.

Therefore, I propose pedestrain bridges which combines the pedestrain

movement on nursey to the center. I also propose some hoby gardens where

the people can plant their plants,vegetables and propose that people can

collect fruits and vegetations by themselves(so I transform this fracture to a

connector and an urban area).

My second suggstion is using some big gardens as public spaces and I also

unifing them by pedestrain routes. This pedestraian routes strech to the his

troric cell and also to the agriculral areas by crossing a steel pedestrain

bridge. In other wolds, I propose a transformation private green/space to

more public green/space.

I cannot propose solutions every part of the city. However I suggest

many changes for my 1/2000 area. Therefore, I prefer to show some of my

touches from the different sides of the town by choosing some examples.

I prefer to solve the most important ones such as the town center hard

cape of the Bartm, The square is paved with asphalt and closed by hedges.

Its one side is used as a parking-lot which is owned by municipality of

Bartm. I propose that hardscape is not work as a square also it is at the

center of the town because of its hedges and usage of one side as parking-

lot. By uniting lots and to put away the hedges pedestrians can easily pass

across the area. However, if the main way is not pedestrainized this square is

divided and it will also stay empty. I also propose a fuctional change on

public buildings(as commercial buildings) which are at the opposite side of

the square and which have big open space between them .Therefore, I pro

pose unify this open spaces and create a modern, pedestrain, civic center for

Bartm.

Park of Yah is abondoned after the flood but the people want to use there,

want to walk there, want to rest there and also the childrens want to play

ground so I suggest a renevation in Yah Park to return it to old days.

After 1/2000 I have to choose a 1/500 area to work more detailed. I

detrimined three different 1/500 scale areas to work but I have to prefer

only one of them. I tink that if Bartrn want to be a citv.flrst the center will

became more usefull and modern. port, Termini and Gazhane district is at

the cell of the town but abondoned and live a downfall after the flood in May

98. Therefore, I choose the area where needs urgent renewal. If this part

doesnot renewate the town continue to looes population and the center con

tinues to be under pressure. I propose a almost whole renewal for the area.

I only preserve some historic and important buildings and schools.

I propose a new port where the small ships and motors, can come from

Bogaz to Bartrn and can dock so the water will return its functional days

again.

While I find the shapes and the density of my proposing buildins, I use

cardboards in differents dimensions. I try to find a harmony of them with the

existing buildings .

To do not cut down the pedestrian movement until to reach the water,

pedestrains have to pass a 15meter wide and fast floding traffic. For the

unity and for theusage of my proposed Gazhane park I propose a under

ground passage for the part of the way between Ankara bridge and Yah,

In my 1/500 area I propose a big new park where is directly entegrated to

the city. By the passages(in commercial buildings) and the paths which st

reching to the center, pedestrains and bicycles can easily reach my new

propal Gazhane Park. I think Gazhane district is the most potential city park

area in Bartm. It is surrounded by rivers and have the views of nuts garden

(findrkhk) which are planted across to the river. I propose an luna-park area

which includes a Ferris wheel,carrousel, dodgem cars, balerina and a

go-cart pist. I propose my go-cart pist for the closest area of the way, where

can be noisy and isolated and so I suggest put my parking lots to the east

side of the go-cart area.

I propose fish restaurant between the park and iskele square. By this

commercial facilities I want to make there more fuctional and so more

prefereable .

THE NEW SPRAWLING CENTER AND ITS ARTICULATION WITH GREEN

The commercial areas can become dead palces after shops are close.

Therefore, I propose a tranlition in funtion of buildins through the center to

the sides. At the center of pedestrin routes I suggest commercial buildings

which are 3 to 5 stored. The funtion of buildings transform to slowly to

residences blok by blok. the Surrounded buildings of my proposal "C;ar~1" are

the buildings which is first two store is for shops and other levels for

residence.

I propose tradational "cars:" for my new renewed district. I want to pas

sages between my buildings to not divide the pedestrain movement from

old C;ar~1 to new C;ar~l. I propose a motor way end then one pesestrain way

so I do catch a balance between pedestrain density and vehicle density.

In the historic cell Bartm doesnot any area to make parkings lots.

Therefore, I have to propose my parking lots close the center but I also do

not sacrifice any surface area for this. I make a desition to use the

topography of the Kirtepe and so I propose two level underground parking

lots almost 1000 cars.

I do not divide any continuety of pedestrain routes so I sometimes prefer

bridges(over river and connect to Toki), sometimes upper passages,(over

ways) sometimes shore/coast ways among the river .

KONUR STREET PROJECT-TERRITORIALITY

Description of site(What is it7): It is a narrow, surrounded by 6-7 stored buildings, crowded, liveful, and open place, enclosed street. Konur is at the heart of the Kizrlav so we can all there the focus of the city "Ankara". Konur is just a small (157meters long and 18-20meters wide) street. It is between Yuksel Street and Mesrutivet Avenue. Selanik Street is on the east of it and Karanfil Street is on the west of it. This street is only for pedestrian use (but after 20 o'clock cars can enter to service the cafes and offices). There are 8 buildings on the east side and 9 buildings at the west side. There are many cafes, which surround it. (Side arrangement)

If a place has a part (a important part) in your life (part of your life), it be comes a matter and you'll concern about it. I do not like the new stories and the closed cafes, which surround it. I like the street's itself. (The life of the street (street life)). I concern about Konur but the owners of the Limon, ounva Bazaar or closed cafes concern about how can they make more money or how much they earn.

I concern because; it is a focal place, it is a model (or modal, it has traditions/history and a place in many people's memories, it has a past and so I want it has a future.

I think Konur live many changes( and continue to live changes) but the essence of it ( people hanging there, traditions, history, Konur culture, hier archy, groups) do not change(will not change) and so Konur will survive as I how I want to see(wish) .

FIRST PROJECT OF PLANTING DESIGN

In planting design course, first we make research on plants. we make a plating list and a table. We classify the plant region by region. then we determine a project site to use these plants. We make design as think that area is at the shore of somewhere in Mediterrenean sea region. Therefore, in my proposel, I suggest to use Mediterrenean regions planst( endemiks in region especially) such as palm trees, date palms(hurma) and prunus aviums.

I prefer make a collage as a presentation thecnique first time in my projects. I put the pictures of the plants for use the pain view of them and do same thing for playing equepments such as carrousels and swings.

I propose wooden walking path at the shore and sometimes camellies for resting, chating or viewing the sea.

For this project everyone choose a painting to inspire from. I choose anpainting which includes two parts and axial lines. Therefore, in my design I prefer using grids and axial lines and a square where the are intersect .

PLANTING DESIGN SECOND PROJECT MOODS IN DESIGN HUMANISTIC & FRIENLY

In design, plants and places (also the harmony of them)inspried people by

their ,creates some different feelings on people by the choices of designer.

I choose the frienly & hu manistic as a mood which I want to see in my

garden. We design that garden for ourselves. Therefore, I prefer frienly&

humanistic mood as a motto for my design because I like be in a harmony

and in touch with the nature.

I propose a garden where I can touch the nature so I use medium and

small trees, colourful flowers and also a flowing water which I can touch and

can walk in. I propose a shallow water body and some wooden resting,

sitting places on it.

I use the slope of the area so the water flows like it was in nature. In front

garden, I think I need a parking lot and a enterance hoi I so I suggest use

there as like this. I propose land art figures for enterance hall lawn. I create

a asimetric geometrical shape by using stones as a material.

I propose some thematic parts for garden like blue garden which includes

blue spruce, mesenbryanthemum albatum(buz c;ic;egi), blue grass .

PLANTING DESIGN FINAL PROJECT A PARK FOR CHILDREN

SENSES(SIGHT, HEAR, TOUCH, SMELLING, TASTE)

In final project we work on thematic gardens. I prefer a garden for senses.

Our project have to focs on senses of children. Therefore, I propose 3

different part for 5 different senses. I propose passages which come from

inlands in my park and this paths divede my park to thematic areas.

I want to protect children from the noise and the complexity of the city so

I propose my areas for children where they can be safe. Therefore, I suggest

that older people use the way side of the Park and Children play in the

neighbourhood side of the park.

I suggest hearing and touching sences can be in easily in a harmony. I

propose a flowing water, Populus tremula(titrek kavak) amd wooedn playing

equipments in this part. This part is the most naturel part of my park.

In tasting and smelling part, I prefer fruit trees where children can taste

and smell the nice smells of these fruits. I especially suggest Prunus trees.

more defined and more colourful pavement and play equipments and

medium height trees for the harmony of design.

In the siqtt/see theme area I use colored pavement, small trees and small

colurful trees where is more welcomed place for children at the left of a

theater. I propose this area will be the most peaceful, most colurful and

interesting site of my Park .

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE LAUD BACKYARD PROJECT (Group Two Ferdi inanli-Burcak Aksakal)

In proffessional practice course,we're expected to re-design backyard of

LAUD building in Bilkent university. We started our work by walking and

photographing the area.After this,we measured the area. The measurement

contains hardscape meausrement, softscape, measurment, vegetaion, steps,

topography, windows, doors, enterences and exits. We determine the materi

als and landscaping. According to these informations we started our analysis.

Our first analysis contains hardscape,softscape,the views of the area and

problematics of the area. In the softscaping the area is generally grass,

random planting and grass soil. We work the area in three parts.The first

part,is near the autopark, seocnd part is the court yard of laud building and

the third one is the court of graphic design building. Potencials of this area,

provide us to thing this area as an exhibition area.We propose second area

can be worked as court yard,it has an Ankara view ,it's a micro climatic

area,it is in the south park,it takes the sunlight.There is a slope to the ve

hicle way.There can be enterences to the building.It needs landscpae design

and the vehicel way and autopark have to connected to his area.The view

has to be provided by ordering the vegetation. we suggest that area can be

a resting area with individual usage,because of it's calm and quite area

because of it has a view points of Ankara.It has a slopped area.Innner part

area an work as a court yard beacuse it has a micro climatic area. It is

closed and sheltered place.The area is hidden and can work as a relaxing

place .

PRESENTATION TECHNIQUES.

PROPOSED COVERS FOR THE SAME MAGAZINE 04V

In this architectural magazize (ViA arquitectura v-04) cover, Cool colors are used. The orijinal colors are verdant green(the base), white(name of the magazine), big "04.v" (colored by an architectural deatails of a building). This typing method ,as I remember,was used in "Rem koolhaas's" Hollywood poster. The small wrings fonts are so simple more notr and the type is "tr lucida Sans Unicode". I think the colors are balanced and notr to each other. Simple and basic, so(in other words) perfect.

I like the colors of the cover so I make a new cover by using another cool color blue. I try the black and white colors too. I also use the complementary color of the orijinal color and make a new cover by using purple. I try how it seems if I use analogous colors and make another color.

The cover is so simple and so basic, more formal and rational because they use some vertical and horizantal forms in a balanced way.

Cool colors: Based in blue. They differ from cold colors because of the addition of yellow to their composition, which creates yellow-green, green, and blue-green.Cool colors, such as turquoise blue and verdant green, are seen in nature .

ANYSIS OF URBAN ENVIRONMENT FINAL PROJECT

ENTERANCE OF KIRANKOY-SAFRANBOLU (Group project with Mert <;ekici)

Krrankoy is one of the histroric and tradational part of Safranbolu. Before

1920s(mUbadele) Rums leaving usually at this part of Safranbolu. now,

Kirankov is a small nice town, where includes many protected civic

architecture examples( curnbah evler) and narrow streets and big gardens

aroun theri house. Therefore, we do not want to make to many changes. We

only propose small touches and changes. We propose that the damaged

pevement will be fixed and added new pevement to the some paths by using

the same material.

In krrankov people need resting/sitting places while they go Bazaar or

market to their houses. We propose wooden sitting benches which we think

that they can be in a harmony of historic houses and typology(doku).

We propose way-side parking lots to the main street where is the

enterance of Kirankov .

WORKSHOP IN CHAMBER OF ARCHITECTURES IN THE THEME OF

KENTLi HAKKIM KENDi HAKKIM

I attend a workshop in uctea chambers of architecures in the week of

architectures. I work at the third workshop group which is theme is "public

spaces od Ankara".

I prefer as a sit e Konur street where I already mak two homeorks and a

project about. I want to differentiate the (touch) seperatins if a place is

privatization by shops and privaized by the users. I think owner of the

shops(cafes, restauranst ona bazaars which are at the Konur Street) use

Konur Street for only themselves and their custemers. You cannot use the

area which they close because they think they are the only owner of tht side

constansly. However, real users of Konur only make a temporary

privatizaiton/territoriality like the front of Dost bookstore or imge book

strore. I only want to interest people that their public spaces are transform

to close, defined, special and so commercial places
