Singapore to host women’s meet in August

BESIDES hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum this year, Singapore will be the venue for the 14th Apec Meeting of the Women Leaders Network (WLN) on Aug 4 and 5. Formed in 1996, WLN promotes the participation of women in economic and trade-related activities, and shares the perspectives and expertise of leading women with key Apec decision-makers. The coming WLN meeting will focus on five main issues – sustainable development, work-life harmony, women in business, the knowledge economy, and tripartism and social enterprise. Commenting on the agenda, Singapore’s Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, said the committee will “recommend ways to integrate women into the global economy, which is in line with Apec’s theme of sustaining growth”. Mrs Yu-Foo is chairperson of the steering committee for the WLN meeting. Before the meeting, an Apec Digital Economy Forum for Women will be held on Aug 3. This will discuss best practices and women’s role in fostering an infocom technology environment. Online registration is available at http://www. html.
