BJP accuses private school of

changing road name

Terming the changing of the name of

a road unilaterally by a private school as
unwarranted, the activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) local unit on Thursday removed the name board of the
school.
Over 20 activists led by BJP general secretary V. Saminathan gathered in
front of St Joseph of Cluny Girls Higher
Secondary School, Lawspet and shouted
slogans against the management of the
school for keeping the name board at
their entrance which stated Cluny Road.
They said though the road has been
called as Airport Road all these years, the
management of the school renamed the
road as Cluny Road and kept the name
board at its entrance.
BJP general secretary V. Saminathan

said, It is totally unacceptable to name

the road after the institution at the managements whim. It will create confusion
among residents. After all, who are they
to change the name of the road? Meanwhile, a complaint also was sent to police
to take action against those who changed
the road name.
In the complaint, Chandru of BJP constituency in-charge said, The large road
in our area was mentioned as Airport
Road in government gazette. Deliberately the school management changed the
name and hung a name board at the entrance stating that it is Cluny Road. Such
unilateral act will create unnecessary
confusion among residents and create
communal unrest in the area.

seeking action against lecturer

Levelling serious allegations against a

lecturer who allegedly misbehaved with
girl students, the students of Womens
Polytechnic College, Lawspet, along with
their parents picketed the Puducherry
Institute of Post-Matric Technical Education (PIPMATE) demanding immediate
action against him.
According to the students, the lecturer has been teaching electronics and communication engineering and allegedly
had made sexual advances towards them
in different ways. As his misbehaviour
turned excessive, they had complained
to the principal of the college.
Infuriated over inaction, the students
decided to launch a protest.
Boycotting classes, the students took
out a procession towards PIPMATE and

sat in protest before the office. Some of

the parents also joined them.
Later, they met Mohammed Mansoor,
director of PIPMATE and urged him to
initiate immediate action against the lecturer.
A student said, We already complained to administration in this regard.
But there was no action so far. That is
why we came here today.
The students and parents dispersed
after the director assured of an action
against the erring lecturer.
While meeting press persons on
Thursday, Higher Education Minister
P.R. Siva also said, Action will be initiated against the person whoever it may
be.
