Enlistment of Supply Teachers (Secondary)


Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates who wish to be considered for enlistment as
Supply Teachers (Secondary) on a part-time and/ or purely temporary basis as and when required during
the academic year 2016, for teaching of the following subjects in any one of the Secondary Schools falling
under the responsibility of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute:

Qualifications :

A.1. (i) (a) Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language
obtained at not more than two sittings
OR
(b) Passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not
more than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level provided that at
one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English
Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English
Language with at least Grade C in any one subject.
(ii) A Cambridge Higher School Certificate or passes in at least two subjects obtained on one
Certificate at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level.
(iii) A degree or joint degree from a recognized institution.
Note
(a) Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained prior to qualification at (ii) above; and
(b) Qualification at (ii) above should have been obtained prior to qualification at (iii) above.
OR
A.2. (i) (a) A Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language
obtained at not more than two sittings, or
(b) Passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not
more than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level provided that
at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English

Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English
Language with at least Grade C in any one subject.
(ii) A degree or joint degree from a recognized institution; and
(iii) A Postgraduate Certificate in Education from a recognized institution or a Masters Degree from a
recognized institution.
Note
Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained prior to qualification at (ii) above.
OR
B.1. (i) (a) Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language
obtained at not more than two sittings, or
(b) Passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not
more than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level provided that
at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English
Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English
Language with at least Grade C in any one subject, and
(ii) A degree or joint degree from a recognized institution.
Note
Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained prior to qualification at (ii) above.
OR
B.2. (i) (a) A Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English
Language obtained at not more than two sittings or
(b) Passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not
more than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level provided that
at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English
Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English
Language with at least Grade C in any one subject.
(ii)

A Cambridge Higher School Certificate or passes in at least two subjects obtained on one
certificate at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level; and

(iii) The Teachers Diploma of the Mauritius Institute of Education. For the teaching of music, a
Diploma in Music from a recognised institution, obtained after a course of at least two years full
time study or equivalent part time or the Licentiate of the Associated Board of the Royal School
of Music of the Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music.
Note
Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained prior to qualification at (ii) above.
OR
Equivalent qualifications to A and B above acceptable to the Council.

Note 1
Candidates not possessing a credit in English Language at the Cambridge School Certificate will also
be considered provided they possess passes in at least two subjects at Principal Level and one
subject at Subsidiary Level, as well as the General Paper obtained on one certificate at the
Cambridge Higher School Certificate Examinations.
Note 2
The Diploma or Degree or Joint Degree required for the teaching of each of the subjects mentioned
at paragraph 1 should be in the subject to be taught except for the following subjects :

II.

Salary
(a) For candidates selected to work on a full-time temporary basis
A salary at the flat rate of Rs 17,675/- or Rs 23,675/- monthly, depending on qualifications

(b) For candidates selected to work on a part-time basis


Salary will be at the hourly rate of Rs 272.76 or Rs 365.35, depending on qualifications.
(c) The following rates will be payable to Educators who would be selected to teach Indian Music
and Dance classes in the regional centres after working the number of hours in Secondary
Schools in line with Recommendation 84 Paragraph 18.19.1 of EOAC Report 2013, which may
be reviewed in future.

Note 3
For scarcity areas, candidates who hold qualifications at A1 (i), A1 (ii) and B1 (i), B1 (ii) and not
A1 (iii), A2 (ii), A2 (iii), B1 (iii) above may also apply. They would then be considered for
employment with salary at the flat rate of Rs 14,275/- a month or a part-time hourly rate of Rs
220.29.
Note 4
Candidates selected for Design and Technology must have Design & Technology at HSC/ A .Level.

III.

Mode of Application

Application forms for the posts are available at the Reception Counters of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute,
Moka and Rabindranath Tagore Institute, Ilot, Pamplemousses. The form can also be downloaded from the
MGI Website : http://www.mgirti.org.
Applications should be made on the prescribed forms and returned, duly filled in, together with photocopies
of birth, marriage (where applicable), morality and educational certificates, so as to reach the DirectorGeneral, Mahatma Gandhi Institute/Rabindranath Tagore Institute, Moka (80808), not later than 3.30 p.m.
on 07 January 2016.
Incomplete and/or inaccurate application forms or applications not made on the prescribed forms will not be
considered.
The post applied for should be clearly marked on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
Candidates willing to be considered for more than one post should fill separate application forms.
The Mahatma Gandhi Institute reserves the right to call only the best qualified candidates for interview and
