Kanpurites happy over KESCo decision

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE n KANPUR

anpurites were happy over

the decision of KESCo to
refrain from power cut on
Diwali (October 22 and 23). It
was a boon to people who
openly indulged in using lights
to decorating their homes. The
city was glittering with lights all
through the night and the
buildings were aesthetically
decorated. Especially the government buildings which
remain in utter neglect on
occasions on Thursday were

shimmering with multicoloured lights. The decision to

exempt Kanpur for at least
two days comes in the wake of
the special request made by the
District Magistrate, Dr Roshan
Jacob who had made a special
request for allowing round-theclock power supply on festival.
She also warned the officials of
KESCo to ensure that the faults
were repaired immediately and
every step was taken to ensure
there was no overloading of the
transformers.
It may be mentioned here

that Kanpur reels under power

outages between 6 and 12
hours a day which included
breakdowns and time taken to
replace the transformers.
The two-day uninterrupted power supply clearly proves
that if the Samajwadi Party
Government wanted it could
supply 24 hours power supply
by purchasing power on the
market rate from NTPC and
supplying to the consumers. If
this can be done this day then
it could also be done on all
days.

However, the city was

sprawling with lights on
account of the magnanimity of
KESCo who had been given
directives by the UPPCL to
ensure there was no power cut.
One thing one fails to
understand was that when
there was round-the-clock
power supply and the load
had peaked dangerously still
there was no report of any fault
from any part of the city but
during the power cut period
there was massive power breakdowns.

Chinese goods were adversely
affected the Indian traders.
He said China was dumping it products in India and the
peope were grabbing for their
products.
President of the Uttar

Mandal, Shyam Bihari Mishra,
said dumping was a kind of
predatory pricing,especially in
the context of internationaltrade and occurred when manufacturers export a product to
another country at a price
either below the price charged
in its home market or below its
cost of production.
He said a standard technical definition of dumping was

the act of charging a lower price

for the like goods in a foreign
market than one charged for
the same good in a domestic
market for consumption in the
home market of the exporter.
He said this was often referred

President of the Uttar

said under the World Trade

China was selling products 10

products sold in India.

said in August 2014 Chinese

products like toys and crackers
to high-value items like electronics and machinery.
He said the import portfolio had also expanded across
product categories like gift

President of the Uttar
