NEA-Dallas Newsletter
January 2016

Message from President Angela Davis

want to take this opportunity to welcome you all back to work, wishing
everyone a Happy New Year. We have an exciting year ahead of us and
were pleased to have each one of you as members.

NEA-Dallas is committed to advancing the cause of public education. There

are many components that must work smoothly within our organization in
order to accomplish that goal and we believe that we are already doing
many things right, as attested by our past successes. Yet, as most of you
know those successes do not all come easily. Many challenges present
themselves to us along the way; some of them very difficult to deal with. Yet, through the
positive attitude and perseverance of our members, weve managed to overcome many of them.
You do make us proud!
And now, as we propel forward in the New Year, aware that there are always new challenges that
lie ahead of us, we remain confident in the knowledge that our members are willing to meet
these challenges head on. It is reassuring to know that were all willing to pull together and make
the changes necessary to ensure our continued success.
We thank you for your continued enthusiasm and positive work efforts as we look forward to
another successful year.

It is that time of year again to nominate and elect delegates and alternates to the Region 4D House of Delegates,
the TSTA State House of Delegates and local delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly.
The Region 4D House of Delegates will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Our Region House of
Delegates will be held at Charco Broiler Steak House,413 W. Jefferson, Dallas, TX, 75208 from 12 noon until
3:00 pm. This years Regional HoD is an important one. We will be, will be considering new business items to
present at the State HoD in April.
The TSTA House of Delegates will be held in El Paso, TX at El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center,
April 8-9, 2016. There will be professional development seminars conducted by TSTA the morning of April 8th.
Delegates may want to start planning now for travel expenses to the state convention. The TSTA convention
hotel is the Camino Real Hotel in El Paso. Located near the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center,
the hotels nightly room rate for members in the TSTA convention room block is approximately $100 for a
single or a double, plus taxes. NEA-Dallas will provide two nights double occupancy for ONLY our ELECTED
delegates. NEA-Dallas has reserved a coach bus for our delegates to travel to El Paso. The cost to ride the bus
is $100 per person. The coach is a 50 passenger bus and will be on a first come first serve basis.
The NEA Representative Assembly will be held July 2nd 7th in the wonderful city of Washington, DC. The
NEA RA is the worlds largest democratic decision-making body with upwards of 9,000 delegates in attendance
from all over the United States and the world. If you would like to run for a state delegate position to NEA RA,
please complete the nomination form attached to this letter or visit forms/nea-ra-statedelegate-nomination.
It is extremely important that we have our full delegation in attendance for these upcoming events. The future
of our organization will be decided there and each of you will have a vote. If we have delegates that do not
attend, then we, here in Dallas, lose valuable input in that decision-making process.
To be on the ballot for these important elections, please fill out the enclosed nomination form and return it to
NEA-Dallas (DISD Box 118) through DISD mail, US Mail (6500 Greenville Ave., Suite 520 Dallas, Texas
75206), via fax (214-821-0219), or in person. We need your nomination form by 4:00pm, Thursday, January
21, 2016.
We want to encourage all of you to participate in these important events. This is an opportunity for all of you to
become involved in YOUR organization.
We look forward to receiving your nomination form.

In solidarity,
Angela M. Davis

How Dallas County School Drivers and Monitors Help Make Public Education Great For Every
We operate and maintain all of a school system's vehicles. We are the first to greet students on their way to school
and the last to bid them goodbye as they return home. We are often the first to recognize when a student is troubled
or ill.
We are responsible for getting students to and from school in various weather and traffic conditions. We
are responsible for first aid and emergency evacuation procedures, student conduct and discipline, and the safe
transportation of special education students. We also keep up with new safety requirements, regulations and
