4 p.m. Race and Reconciliation Forum. Spencer Turnipseed leads a public conversation about
diversity, inclusion and current issues related to civil rights, equality, compassion and peace.

Monday, Jan. 18
8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Spencer Turnipseed addresses special eighth-grade assembly of 300
students at Sioux Falls Whittier Middle School. Will be scheduled for a 50-minute class period
beginning about 9:15. Hosted by Principal Twaine Fink in the school auditorium. American
history is part of the eighth grade curriculum and Martin Luther King Day is an appropriate time
to explore the Civil Rights Movement and address issues related to diversity and inclusion.
2 p.m. Coffee and conversation with Spencer Turnipseed, hosted by Sioux Falls Human
Relations Office and Commission, at Josiah's Coffeehouse & Caf. The open forum is tied to
the citys new initiative, Compassionate Sioux Falls. Arrangements with Tina Lemieux and
Julie Briggs.
6-6:30 p.m. Arrive at Augustana University and check in with Mark Blackburn, director of
diversity and inclusion.
7 p.m. Keynote speaker at Augustana Universitys Martin Luther King Week commemorative
program and closing ceremony. Edith Mortenson Center Theatre on the Augustana campus.
