M2GCN - Nuclear steelwork structures

2015/2016

STEELWORK STRUCTURES IN EUROPEAN NUCLEAR PROJECTS
APPLICATIONS 1/2 AND 2/2
1.You have to design a metallic platform inside a nuclear building to support a
safety-related equipement, to enable access to the equipment. Some light
piping and/or HVAC and/or small cable trays may also need to be supported
later by this platform. The operating temperature in this room is +25°C, and it
can vary from +20°C to +30°C. The equipment is a fixed crane with a selfweight is 20kN, with an operating load of 300kN (vertically). This equipment
center of gravity is located as shown on the following sketch :

minimum discretization. Check these anchorages with loads resulting from your calculations in questions 3 or 6. Propose 2 anchorages design: one for the left wall on sketch 2 and one for the right wall. Use a sketch to detail them. Identify potential optmizations of your design. anchorage points. OPTIONAL : perform calculation with a FE software of your choice and present results (loads at cross sections. Check these connections with loads resulting from your calculations in questions 3 or 6. connection conditions. 4. Perform a pre-design of the platform (propose profile types and check them with loads defined in 2). and at support points). present them and identify their advantages (and shortcomings if any). indicate element type. deflections. 3. Propose 2 connections design (use a sketch to detail the assembly). modeled eccentricities if any) 5. one for a nominally pinned connection and one for a connection that lets one of the connected profiles move along its own axis. Detail your choices especially for seismic loads. 8. In case of lacking data. Propose a FE element model you would use in order to design this platform (sketch the model. 2. boundary conditions. Concrete walls are assumed to be class C40/50. Discuss these results. 6. 10.M2GCN . connections and supports) in order to fulfill the requirements above. 7. material properties. and explain your choice. loads on connections. propose an assumption and explain your choice of hypotheses. Indicate how you would model the loads defined in question 2. Define material properties and loads on the plateform according to ETC-C. 9 Propose detailing measures at equipment support point and justify.Nuclear steelwork structures 2015/2016 Propose a platform layout (profiles location. .

Accelerations in vertical direction are taken as 1/3 of the horizontal ones.M2GCN . The spectrum accelerations are to be intrepolated linearly in log-log between each tabulated points : Seismic  response  spectrum   10   Sa  (g)   1   4%  damping   0.
