Space Research Updates

PSLV-C23 was launched on June 30, 2014. It carried five foreign
satellites . All five satellites were released successfully. The launch was
attended by Prime minister Narendra Modi, the 15th Prime minister of
India. He mooted the idea of a SAARC satellite as India's gift to the region.
The lift-off time was originally planned to be at 9.49 a.m.[IST], but was later
rescheduled to 9.52 a.m.[IST] due to debris getting in the trajectory.
The five satellites are from four countries - France, Germany, Canada and
Singapore.

State Bank of India partners with Ezetap Mobile to launch

mPOS solution
SBI has partnered with payments service provider, Ezetap Mobile
Solutions, to deploy mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) solution. SBI plans to
deploy 5,00,000 point-of-sale terminals within the next five years, it said in
a release. "Mobile POS has the power to transform payments and
commerce. It can be deployed easily and at low cost in every corner of the
country," SBI's deputy managing director S K Mishra said. The SBI-Ezetap
platform would allow the bank to provide value-added services for
merchants and consumers from a single, secure POS device and
application, he added.

Militants in Iraq captured Iraq's largest oil refinery Baiji refinery. The Baiji
refinery is located north of Baghdad in Iraq. The reports indicate that
militants attacked refinery with machine gun fire and mortars.
Baiji is one of three oil refineries in Iraq and only processes oil from the
north. The other two are located in Baghdad and the Southern Iraq which
are firmly under government control and are operational.
While most of Iraq's oil and gas fields are in the centre and the south of the
country, militants have seized territory in Iraq's oil-producing Kirkuk
province.

banned for eight years by the disciplinary panel set up by the Bangladesh
Cricket Board. He was found guilty on four charges of fixing matches in

World Bank lowers India's GDP growth forecast to 5.5 per cent

The World Bank has lowered India's GDP growth forecast to 5.5 per cent for
2014-15, from the earlier forecast of 5.7 per cent. The World Bank report,
