Overview of Vietnam Military Telecommunications Group (Viettel)


1.1. HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT
Vietnam Military Telecommunications Group is established as the decision No.
2097/QD-TTg of 14/12/2009 by Prime Minister. It is a state-owned enterprise wholly
owned and operated by the Ministry of Defence. With the slogan Say it your way,
Viettel always try to listen to and comprehend customers. Now Viettel Group
is Vietnam's largest mobile network operator.
Viettel has currently operations in eight markets over Asia, Latin America and Africa,
covering a total population of nearly 170 million people. In 2014, Viettels revenue
reached over 9 billion USD with more than 75 million subscribers worldwide. In these
markets, Viettel owns the largest network infrastructure by official launch date. Viettel
boasts its first group in the world initiating free Internet connections and services for all
public schools which has directly benefited about 27 million teachers, pupils and students
in these countries.
1989: Founded under the name SIGELCO
1995: Becoming 2nd telecom enterprise to be fully license in Vietnam
2001: The first Vietnam enterprise offers Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

nationwide and International VoIP service.


2002: Offer Internet service.
2003: Offer fixed (PSTN) service.
2004: Offer mobile service, international optical link.
2005: Offer IP VPN (MPLS) service.
2006: Investment to overseas into Laos and Cambodia.
2008: No.1 in number of mobile subs in Vietnam.
2009: No.1 in telecom infrastructure in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
2010: No.1 on subscribers in all kind of services in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia,

launching mobile services in Haiti.


2011: Viettel official operated the most modern production line in Southeast of
Asian to produce telecommunications equipment
2013: the revenue from international investment reachs 1 billion USD

2014: Viettels revenue reached over 9 billion USD with more than 75 million
subscribers worldwide
