Electricity Pricing
The costs involved with delivering electricity to your home is made up of a variety of charges that fall into
three broad categories: Electricity Consumption, Delivery Charges and Regulatory Charges. Whitby Hydro
collects only a portion of these costs for their operating activities, through the delivery charge found on
your bill (/site/#!/residential/content?page=understand-your-bill).

Electricity rates are set by the Ontario Energy Board

Whitby Hydro customers are charged Regulated Price Plan (RPP) Time-of-Use (ToU) rates. Time-Of-Use
rates are set by the Ontario Energy Board twice a year, every May and November. These rates outline the
three prices you pay for your electricity consumption, based on the time you use electricity. Your smart
meter records how much electricity you use and when you use it.
Whitby Hydro does not charge a mark-up on any of the prices set by the Ontario Energy Board for the
electricity that you consume.

The Winter Time-Of-Use rate schedule is now in effect

As of November 1, 2015, the Winter Time-Of-Use rate schedule is in effect for all Whitby Hydro ToU
customers. Time-of-Use rates are broken down into three distinct price categories, each tied to electricity
used during specific times of the day:

Time-of-Use pricing rewards you for using electricity during low-demand

periods
The lowest rates are at night, on weekends and statutory holidays.
On Peak 17.5 cents per kWh - When demand for electricity is highest(Weekdays: 7-11 AM and 5-7 PM)
Mid Peak 12.8 cents per kWh - When demand for electricity is moderate (Weekdays: 11 AM 5PM)
Off-Peak 8.3 cents per kWh - When demand for electricity is lowest (Weekdays: 7 PM to 7 AM, Weekends
and Holidays 24 hours, All Day)

Electricity used on holidays is charged at Off-Peak prices

Electricity used on weekends and statutory holidays is charged the off-peak price during both Winter and
Summer periods. The Ontario Energy Board lists the holidays when off-peak prices are in effect. Visit the
Ontario Energy Board website to view the full list of 2016 holiday dates that receive off-peak pricing
(http://ontarioenergyboard.ca/oeb/Consumers/Electricity/Electricity%20Prices/Time-ofuse%20Holiday%20Schedule).
These rates are effective as of January 1, 2016, and do not include applicable taxes.

PassThrough: Charges from other agencies that Whitby Hydro collects, without mark up, and passes on.
Whitby Hydro: Charges for Whitby Hydros distribution system and services (this typically represents
approximately 20% of the total bill).
