Shifting all this equipment is by far the toughest part of the Carnival
event for the hard-working volunteers- so, keeping the equipment
within a walking/carrying distance of the Carnival field is important.
We are always trying to keep costs down so that more of the funds
raised can be invested in community projects.so cheap or free
storage is preferable!

THE HAVENS COMMUNITY ALLOTMENT AND GARDENS

Its February and no doubt many of the New Year Resolutions have
either been abandoned or not even attempted due to the unrealistic
expectations we have at the start of January.
So let us come to your aid with the help of research from the
Universities of Westminster and Essex.
Results of their studies have shown that spending just half an hour a
week gardening can have both physical and mental health benefits.
Just one session a week, they claim, can help tackle bad moods and
encourage weight loss. So if you have ever wondered why your local
Allotment Group seem to be such a happy fit bunch here is the
reason. Not only that, but allotmenteers and gardeners are supposed
to be a confident chilled out species as well. According to the
research just one session could result in significant improvements in
both self esteem and mood including reduced feelings of tension,
depression, anger and confusion
So why spend a fortune on an unused gym membership when you
can take part in Green Exercise at a fraction of the cost - 25 a year
is all we ask should you too want to enjoy the Allotment experience.
We may not be able to provide counselling but we can promise the
free benefits of, according to the research - social interaction,
community inclusion and the opportunity for healthy eating all of
which promote well-being with the added bonus of one of the best
views in the Havens. Oh and not to forget the plentiful supply of
farmyard manure.
Last month Berne Kershaw wished you Happy New Year and good
gardening may I now add my best wishes to you all
for
happy and healthy gardening in 2016.

There will be two groups on meeting at 2:00 the other meeting

and explores the link between Christmas and Easter in prayer,
worship and word. All very welcome.
VICARS THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH
Lent is a solemn time of the year. A time for self examination,
reflection and abstinence. It can be,a difficult time which makes us
feel unworthy and useless and so we turn away from the church, its
demands and making us feel uncomfortable. But how would it be if we
saw Lent not so much as a time for giving things up as a time for
taking things on. A little more time for sitting quietly and connecting
with God. Some time for prayer. Some time for reading. Some time
for spiritual growth. God does not want us to feel like miserable
sinners. He wants us to grow in spiritual stature, to grow in our
connection and intimacy with Him in the grace of His glory. My prayer
for this Lent is that we find the strength of character and purpose to
deepen in our relationship with the living risen Lord of light and life
and love. In order to do that we might even need to eat more chocolate.
With love to you all Diana

Broad Haven Village Hall News

Improvements to the kitchen in the village hall are starting during the February half term break. The kitchen facilities will be
improved in stages to hopefully cause as little disruption to users as is possible. As part of the improvements the village hall
committee have had to reluctantly ask the carnival committee to remove items that were being stored in the upstairs room
next to the boiler. This is due to insurance issues following new risk assessments. The locks to the hall are going to be
changed soon due to keys being mislaid / lost and new keys will then be provided to nominated key holders.

Quiz : Answers
1.Dylan Thomas. 2. Wynford Vaughan-Thomas. 3.Henry Morton
Stanley (born John Rowlands). There is no evidence that he said
Doctor Livingston, I presume. Neither the doctors nor Stanleys
diaries contain the phrase. It is thought he invented it later as a good
headline for his paper. 4. Gordon Bennett (junior) was a playboy who
got up to many nefarious activities which led to his name being taken
in vain and eventually as an oath. 5. A minced oath is a watered down
blasphemous term such as Igor Blimey replaces God Blind Me and
then Gordon Bennett becomes the oath substituted. 6. Gareth
Edwards, who became Wales youngest ever rugby captain in 1968.
7. Dorothy Squires, married to Roger Moore (1953-68) who became
infatuated with Louisa Nautili (neither could speak the others
language!) 8. The Royal Mint founded in 886 and moved to Llantrisant
in 1968. 9 The mini(skirt) by Mary Quant. 10. St Davids and St

AGENDA ITEMS

A prcis of 5 January Minutes 2016.

Consultation
on
Draft
Local
Government(Wales)Bill Re creation
of Dyfed A letter from Cllr Peter Stock
was circulated to the Council regarding
the Welsh Government's consultation
on the Draft Local Government (Wales)
Bill.
One of the proposals in the
consultation is to re-create the former
Dyfed Local Authority area. A proposal
which he believes will lead to less local
democratic accountability and greater
centralisation. Cllr Stock has urged
Communities to respond to the
consultation which can be found at the
following
link:
http://gov.wales/docs/dsjlg/consultation
/151124-lg-bill-consultation-en.pdf.

MATTERS ARISING
Budget Update The Clerk presented
a projected end of year budget for
2015/2016. Councillors were pleased
to note that we have a projected end of
the balance of 3193. However, this
includes the 2000 contribution by
Scotts, for the use of the community car
park which has not yet been received.
Cllr Dai Faulkner put forward that the
monies, when received, should be ring
fenced for repairs to the car park. This
was seconded. Tenders for 2016 grass
cutting will again be advertised in the
February Comm Diary requesting
applicants to apply by 20 February in
order for letters to go out end of
February. It is considered that one bus
shelter and the Point shelter will require
maintenance this year. However, the
Clerk will arrange for all shelters to be
inspected. The 2016 Business Meeting
will be held on the 14 January.

BIRD WATCH
Welcome to this months Bird Watch. Im one of two volunteer Ambassadors for the
British Trust for Ornithologys (BTO) Garden BirdWatch scheme in South Wales.
Each month I introduce you to a bird or other animal that you might see in your
garden.
Goldfinch Feeding Survey
Goldfinches have become an increasingly common sight in gardens. Twenty years
ago this species would have been quite a rare visitor to the bird feeder, but 70%
more Garden BirdWatch participants now record this exotic-looking bird.
The average number of individual birds seen together in gardens has also
increased. Winter months are a particularly good time to see this species on your
feeders. Did you know that the national population of Goldfinches grew by 111%
between 1995 and 2011?
From time to time the BTO runs other surveys alongside its long-standing Garden
BirdWatch survey, and is currently keen to find out what is attracting Goldfinches to
gardens. The special Goldfinch Feeding Survey will run until the end of February.
The survey will look at the feeding preferences of Goldfinches and investigate
whether the increasing use of supplementary foods taken from gardens has
contributed towards their population increase.

If you have Goldfinches visiting your garden (regardless of whether or not you
provide supplementary food), could you contribute just two minutes of your time to
this survey? All you need to do is watch the birds and answer three simple questions:
1) What are the Goldfinches eating? This could be supplementary food you have
provided (e.g. nyger seed or sunflower hearts) or natural foods found in the garden
(e.g. Dandelion or tree seeds).
2) What other foods are available to them in the garden, if any? The BTO is
interested in all the supplementary and natural foods available at the time you
conduct the survey (empty feeders therefore dont count!).
3) How does their feeding behaviour change throughout the winter? You can
complete as many surveys as you wish before the end of February.
For more information about the Goldfinch Feeding Survey, and how to take part,
please visit www.bto.org/goldfinch-survey.
Paper forms are also available by contacting the GBW team (01842 750050 or
gbw@bto.org).
