What a dark and gloomy night, that has befallen over our town. I’m not saying
that I’m scared, that the dark is going to jump out at me and bring us down the tunnel to
infinity. You know, I was just thinking we need a little change from this, we all have
experienced the chills and shrill that comes with this type of night it has practically
become the norm. The whole town feels like it has become a melancholy place to be,
with evil pin stripped objects and hunks of steel lurking around each corner. Just this
morning as the breeze picked up, the trees swaying one great big huge pin stripped hunk
of steel came zooming swiftly before my very eyes! This car was nearly transparent
although the strips black, brown and many unattractive colors besides these in between.
The wispy wind blowing, arousing all earth to come and party, like a new
awakenin’ has begun. Each breath, I wonder if its my last in the town of Hyacallin’
County, oh how your crazy calls from the wild end and the human creations bewilder me.
I almost have concluded that the forces of evil striped cars and countless other human
inventions, along with the unknown evil forces of nature are tracking us down, are up
against us in a crazy game to make me run mad out of this land. I assure you, I love this
place to death so for me to leave would really be a crying shame, for I’ve been calling
this place home for the past 159 years my family has been springing up from here. But
maybe, just maybe I can take this call know before I catch myself in getting into
something too deep and run across a border, to live away from this ever so quickly
changing land.
Maybe I’ll put some things in context for you right now. I’m twenty-one years
old, female without anyone by my side for the time being. I just thought this spot where I
grew up was a good match for me, you know two perfectly matching socks. Maybe I
could settle in my hometown for a while, study my brain all up so I can pursue what I
want blah, blah, blah.I’m Kristianna O’Ryus and never has this happened to me where I
have felt so prominently like I should go far away. Everything was going fine, I
graduated, thought I would get myself right into the workforce for a few years to earn
some savings before attending University Hyacallin’ with the greatest reputation,
conveniently located right across the way. The weather patterns have been shifting
though, which is not supposed to happen in a land where we are only used to everlasting
fall with rain strictly only every two weeks for ten minutes on the dot. Boy does it
downpour during those ten minutes, but my body has lived here for twenty-one years and
I like it! Lately with the turn of events, the rain starts coming at 1:00 am and doesn’t let
up until 5:00 P.M each day it seems! The mist in the sky, the odd forces around me are
telling me, finally driving me to my death to get away from here before I become a
permanent casualty of “small batty, lets drive you up the wall kind of things”.
“Kristianna, you really aren’t seriously leaving now are you”. My maman
exclaimed. She really thought this idea didn’t sound right, I had never had any intentions
of leaving the town and with my family never moving anywhere else I suppose that
sounded like a strange idea. I never would’ve budged from this place, well at least not for
a few more years. “Well, I didn’t actually want to, didn’t actually plan to but haven’t you
noticed this place is turning mad” I yelled back to Niamh. “Hunny, I don’t know what
you’re talking about not in the least, but since you’re at the right age, I suppose…”
Niamh broke off in mid sentence. “What, WHAT” I exclaimed, louder then a thousand
1
tonne car, engine. We were in the process of perhaps getting all packed up, but like I said
this cursed place put a spell on my mom. Quicker then I could say those two what is so
darn frantically loud she was on the floor. No, this was not a party! Not one of my old
time favorite planned mother-daughter prank each other kind of day, but a literal drop
dead incident lets blow away my conscientiousness kind of fall. I ran to the telephone just
to call an ambulance, but of course the wire seemed chewed on or something pathetic like
that to ruin my day even further. So, I decided to inspect further into the case so I could
sound smart and perhaps know sort of what triggered this turn of events, and what might
be wrong with her. Galloping, oh so quickly up the stairs to my room where mother
Niamh had been. I wonder how this mess happened; I’m leaving this place so you think
you can give me a day’s break from anything dramatic. Yes, that is it I want a boring day!
Okay, looks as though she’d been doing a little dance and tripped on her foot causing her
to fall over my 7-foot high lava lamp, now below her. She was in mid sentence going
through dis belief that her only child who actually liked Hyacallin’ to bits was leaving.
Yes, overwhelming disbelief sometimes knocks out those old folk, related and non-
related humans alike. Now, I think I’ll just have to dash on over to my hideous neighbors
house who sings old 40’s songs 24/7. Honestly, every time I pass by their house they
invite me in for a singing and eating championship. There was a time I appreciated them,
but now they’re just evolving into weird freaks, I don’t even know their names anymore!
Wish me luck now, once I’m in I might have to eat a few ounces of pickles and pears
while singing a new karaoke remix version of “Angel In Disguise” by the Warner
brothers. That’s another thing, they think they know good music; hell they find the most
trashiest unheard of songs and think we’re all going to know them. Yes, they’re really
people, perhaps they’ll still have a thing called “understanding” when something is an
emergency or not, that I can’t stay! Even better, if they understand enough my terrible
situation to turn the knob on the tune player to mute while I make my phone call.
Sympathy people, I’m being pulled away from this world, let me enjoy my hardships
while I’m in them don’t add anything more onto the deal, please I say. Okay maman, I
said be good now, I’ll be back in a moment to deliver you to your most favorite hospital
in the world. Yes, you never thought someone would actually like the hospital. My
mother is just a little bit different in some ways. When I was five, on my way to school
one morning, I exclaimed “mammie what you doing today, where are you going in dis
biggest woild here?”. Ah, well only weird mothers would reply “Oh heavens child, I have
some great adventures awaiting me once I drop you into your favorite doors.”. Then she
would pause for anticipation, one of her favorite ways to build up excitement. Finally I
couldn’t hold it in, I blurt out “What mammy, whaat?”. My mamma says “ Why dear, I’m
going to the hospital. Took most of my day off, its going to be a grand adventure I love
visiting there, don’t get around to it often enough.”. As a child I just became silent, it
wasn’t my place or anyone’s place to get excited over something like that. We are taught
very young to be enemies of the hospital, you only go there if you’re sick, that’s where
needles come from, people die there! So on that note, I slammed the door, entered the
giant never ending typhoon, perhaps I wouldn’t make it over to my neighbors house,
maybe I was in grave danger. At any minute the rain could pick up to the heaviest
torrential down pour you ever did witness, smacking me down to the pavement like a
pancake on a pan, only just take shape. I approached the door and hollered, “Hello, it is
you beloved neighbor Kristianna, would you care to turn down the tunes and listen?”
2
From a distance I heard some shuffling, so that was a good sign of life in there. “Yes oh
yes, coming my dear friend”! The door was then swiftly opened, and I was invited into
the party. Yes, thank God I qualify as a friend for these people and not an enemy or else
whose phone would I use in this emergency. Shoot, I’m taking a long time here for what
is considered an “emergency”, for all I know she could actually be unconscious right
now…dying. “Okay, so theres this emergency, my mom’s on the floor” I begun saying
but my neighbor Smorla interrupted. “What a naughty nit wit, why would you mom be on
your floor, in your home I assume”. She blurted out slowly. “No, she fell to the floor
geez, but my phone cord got chewed by Gustaves (cat) ferocious wrath. Can’t I just use
your phone please and none of these dang tootin songs” Words just flowing out of my
mouth so quick you probably wouldn’t see them pass by if they were a striped vehicle.
For once in my life I begun to feel desperate, what would I do if I hadn’t even crossed the
line to phone when someone else detected some abnormalities happening in my house.
What if someone discovered this incident before I even had really begun acting? “Oh
heavens, Kristianna please come into the kitchen and phone, but do excuse my husbands
singing voice, at this time you seem too panicked to enjoy it” Smorla said. Okay, the final
note of approval I can now call 9-fricken 1-1! “Oh but don’t forget to type in our special
code before entering the number on our phone. It is, uh I do believe wait one second.”
Said Smorla at the best possible time. In the background with all the screeching I heard
her saying: ooooh Geoff hunny bun what’s that special code that we have to enter before
entering a phone number. All I could hear Geoff saying in response was “uuuuh, yeah the
code”. “Frig Geoff, our good friend next door needs the phone, the code the code you
insisted on getting from that box of cereal, choco puffed up swines I recken!”. Oh great,
the last thing I needed was this whole fiasco, who knew getting in a simple but life
altering phone call in would be such a rig marole? Smorla approached me, every so
slowly as if not wanting to pass onto me her disappointment. Just so you know, this isn’t
a disappointment, just another annoyance added on. Another reason I should move
somewhere where neighbors don’t play around with their phone numbers, somewhere I
can live like a normal decent human being. “Kristianna, I reckon we must’ve recycled the
code prior to now. I am truly sorry my dear, our intentions were to turn phone calls into
more of a fun game but obviously its not so fun when you don’t remember the code,
resulting in the usage of the phone being out of bounds to all folks!” Smorla wished me a
good day, best of luck and to carry on living happily, like I did so well apparently, to the
best of my ability. I begun opening the door to leave when Geoff started chasing Smorla
as if to say he found the code or something. So someone should darn well catch that girl
waiting far too long in this emergency situation. “HEY KRISTINNA, I forgot we have a
cell phone, come and get it, I feel like I should be serving up some bacon and eggs to you
right now too!”. Said Geoff. My God what a relief, at least I wouldn’t have to search all
over hells half acres looking like a complete idiot trying to use someone else’s phone.
Some could call me a complete idiot already for sticking around here this long, and
getting distracted every few minutes but let’s just say that is against the point I’m
making. So I responded diligently, and the cell phone actually worked without any strings
attached. It’s a wonder! I almost half expected some kind of password to activate the
phone, or maybe the “battery needs to be charged” light flashing. “Thanks Geoff, I’ll be
out of here in a jiffy, please go back to your gadgets, I know how important that is, it’s a
wonder you’re gone from it for this long.” I expressed myself quite sarcastically. 9-1-1
3
Please give me an ambulance! I was practically screaming now, my mother had probably
been sitting there on the floor of my room for close to 2 hours. Heavens, they responded
how could you leave a loved one for that long?! That’s insane; we have to come right
over. I responded by thanking them rather profusely giving the name of my maman and
the condition she was in, not dare saying how long she’d been there. Maybe I could just
leave her there, boycott this place and ride a taxi out to what’s it called? Never land, yes
never land a perfect spot for me! I believe everything would be sheltered and perfect
there, without any devastation for all the rest of my days on earth. “Okay uh guys, have a
good day got to a run, but just saying this might be the last time I see you!” I spoke
rapidly, as I ran out the door trying to dodge any long response that would’ve defiantly
prolonged things. Although being Geoff and Smorla they had to respond “Okay then
dear, take care, UH what? You’re not actually leaving us? What do you mean you’ll
never see us again, your dear friends. Heavens.” They called out in a mumble, fortunately
I only heard half in a subdued tone because of the rain.
Now entering the door, it had only occurred to me what kind of damages my cat,
Gustave could’ve done. I’m telling you right now, he isn’t the sort of independent, leave
on your own type of pet. He usually scratches up a wall or something of the like if you’re
gone for more then 45 minutes. He’s been acting up a lot lately with the wild climate
though. I hope he hasn’t confused my mom as a scratching post, now I would never hear
the end of that one!
The door opened with two guys streaming in, one sort of plump and quite short
the other the straight opposite. He was quite thin and very tall, his head up in the clouds
most of the time I bet. “Erm, Mame so where’s this emergency. We didn’t come to just
visit”. The lankster asked straight away without a little “Hi” or anything which took me a
back. Right the nature of these things isn’t to visit, it is to go as quick as possible. I
wasn’t used to that, usually I end up getting distracted so things drag out to be twice as
long as they usually take with a normal person. “Yep, follow me, but I warn you I have
no idea what condition she is in now. Yeah, I kind of got freaked out and got distracted,
the long and the short of it is I went to my neighbors house to call the 9-1-1 and she’s
been down for about, well lets me see’s, yep two hours or so now”. I recounted to the two
men, who seemed to be half listening half talking among themselves. So take a right up
here and you should see my mom in there, my room and perhaps shes still on top of my
lamp, my massive lava lamp. “Okay Ben, load her up we’re going to have to do
emergency, so step on it when we get in the ambulance okay!” One of the men said to
most likely the other guy named Ben. I heard a small murmer of “sure thing” exchanged.
What I really don’t understand is why they were sounding so secretive; I mean she is my
mom, shouldn’t I be the one who knows what is going on here? Maybe they have their
reasons; it might be gross things they’re talking about like what their left over potato
from supper one evening looked like after letting it sit out for a month, on experiment. I
decided this is it, I’ll ask now if I can get a hoppin’ party ride with them and bring my cat
instead of driving along in my car. Perhaps I’ll save myself from another unfortunate
event of a car crash or who knows what else could happen with me venturing out alone in
this pouring rain? “Ahem, you two men look quite nice, especially since you cared
enough to show up for the party. Now that you have your victim, can a get a ride with
you two, I’d rather have some company then following the party of the century. What do
you say?” I asked, as they were about to pass me with Niamh on the stretcher. My word
4
did she ever look beat up! I can tell you as she passed, I knew she was a tough cookie and
she still had her chocolate chips, she’d be running a while yet. But there were a few
bruises on her forehead where she fell on my lamp. Poor thing, but good for me that I
have such a tough lamp that can go through all the toughest hardships, I know it ain’t
easy. She had a few scratches which gave me evidence a cat must not been too…far.
“Yeah, sure you can come, we actually expect that of family members to accompany their
loved ones. But please, no it’s no party, just a ride to the hospital. Though I have to admit
its pretty wild going through all those red lights! Talk about adrenaline rush. Watching
everything zoom by you.” Chubby Ben replied “Oh yeah, no cats allowed Miss, that’s
just one of our policies, though it goes without saying for most people” Ben ended in a
delirious tone, like what kind of dork would actually think that.
The ride was quite invigorating actually, I’m sorry my mommy couldn’t of seen
all the fascinating things inside. Though I did take a few pictures so I could show my
friends the life of someone in the back of an ambulance, a fully conscious person though.
The guy didn’t know why I was so excited, especially with what ambulances often lead
to. These institutions are known to us all to be for especially for those who are infected,
to go to. Though I swear I would’ve asked for the analysis on how she was doing but I
knew they would tell me if anything too horrible was going on. For all I knew my mom
was dreaming about the wonderful memories she had taking school days off visiting the
hospital. Though I couldn’t help but wonder if this was her first time in an ambulance. I
could so picture her begging in the past to have the whole experience for herself. Frig; if
she wants to experience something she’d do anything to fit the shoes. She’s just that kind
of person. “Okay so we’re now nearing Hycallin’ Emergency entrance of the hospital.
She’s doing pretty fine we think. Yes, she is but we need to do some tests and get her
functioning. Don’t think she can do much at the moment, seeing as her vision and hearing
seems to be impaired and I don’t hear any words being blurted out of that mouth. No
siree I reckon that is a fact” Jumbo said to me but I was barely listening.
At the hospital, I felt quite antsy, almost like a prison. Everything felt grimy so I
refused to breath or touch anything. My third thought precisely when I was waiting for
mom to get her tests done was “My parents were always so excited to have hospital food,
I wonder why?” Of course it was only normal that they would defy what is considered
normal. I was sure it wasn’t anything to be too excited over, but often since their weird
minds liked it, hey I’m related so I feel the urge to like it too, or at least try it. Going
down to the cafeteria actually felt like a sanctuary in this germ-infested place. The bright
wide doors of the cafeteria beckoned my stomach and I, with their call and me “Come eat
here, recken’ you haven’t tasted food until you have come here to eat”. Inside the cheer
of those thought to healthy and diseased free made this room to be probably the only un
infected area, which is quite great since food is prepared here. One thing I’ve wondered is
how they keep their equipment sterile with all the germs everywhere. I walked up to the
counter with a blissful grin on my face like I out of all the people in the world had
discovered just the right place to be if I were to spend any more time in Hycallin’. If my
stomach was happy I was happy, that’s all there is to it. Well, pretty much. So slab on
whatever you go onto my plate please, I want to be full of food. Just please, I’m darn
hungry and I would like to sample everything, ya know? See whats better. The lady
looked at me like I was some kind of mega devourer, like I was set to eat all the food they
had cooked for today. “Well you know, truth is anything we make here is quite a lot
5
better almost anywhere else you go to eat in this world. Hence saying that, what can I
actually say besides, good thing we made extra food today, like we knew a gorging
gorilla was on its way to us” The food lady said sort of affront to me. “Thanks Miss, for
all the food now where do I pay?” I asked In a happy mood although I knew she was
conveying to me she was in no mood. Just a big ol’ grump is what I would tend to call
her. She then yelled at me “Miss you have eyes, I’d want to use them if I were you, or
you may loose em’. Look over there, its only located in a quite obvious location”. Ah
well, I was in a positive mood in Hycallin’ won’t sweat it too much if I get on others
nerves, this happens so rarely. Though, I’m half intending to blame this on hysterics, I’m
going crazy, sometimes insanity makes you go totally as sane as a fluttering butterfly. I
paid and nibbled, nibbled and “Kristianna Snovic, come to our main desk immediately
please, Kristianna Snovic now.” With that I hopped up not even remembering to bring
my dessert for safekeepings, leaving a giant mountain of food. The lady was right, not
actually so great tasting food. I’m sure going to write a narrative about sometime using
humor as the main feature. “Hi, you called me up, I was in the middle of enjoying a meal
but I took into account people don’t like waiting, well especially here.” I said on arrival
to the front desk. “Oh yeah and uh, is it really nessesary to use forceful words such as
now, instead of thank you? As I recall, back in the day these messages over the pa system
would use polite words, it works better in not ruffling peoples feathers, just to give you a
small hint”. I couldn’t help myself I had to let her know my thoughts on that. “Sorry
about that, it’s just standard. Good point though I liked that way better too. Now, we’re
running lethargically slow today, everyone seems to be in no hurry over here, I apologize
a head of time. Can I get your name though just to confirm it was you who I called
down?” The lady behind the hospital reception asked quite agreeably. “Yes, I’m
Kristianna, folks often miss spell that with a C, but it actually isn’t” I said. So you spell it
like K-R-I-S-T-I-A-N-N-A but you also need my last name. It’s a little personal but I
suppose I’ll let you know it, don’t go telling your friends this tomorrow now, okay? So it
is S-N-O-V-I-C. “Okay” said the receptionist as she typed a few things onto the computer
and printed out some forms. “Here you are Miss Snovic, fill these out and bring them
back. But may I ask where Mrs. Snovic’s husband is at the moment?” That sprung a
thought quickly, father wouldn’t even know his wife was over here right now. Like a
normal passing day, he would assume she would be wherever she told him she would be.
Today wasn’t like that though. I should’ve thought but I guess if this drags on till 10:00
tonight then we have a problem. “Yeah, it was quite frantic today I really should’ve
phoned him but all I could think about was calling 9-1-1”. I’ll filled the forms out, just
basically asking a bunch of random questions about the event, anything I knew leading
up to the event, any thoughts about it. The other sheet had questions related to her
personally, her demographics, her normal health condition, what she takes routinely etc..
To the best of my ability I filled these out because I knew it was worth the effort here, she
always said put your all into everything you do and from that you’ll see fruits appearing
across the land. I love rewards, and boy do I love fruit especially those kiwi thingies, I
tell you it was love at first sight between the kiwi fruit and I! So I handed them to the
receptionist, “Thanks very much, I expect we’ll be letting you visit her any second now”
was her response. I grew ecstatic, not everything was resulting in fatalities here, but just
about triple as much panic as a normal person could handle, incorporated into my days.
“God bless you miss, it sounds like she’s conscious again, that old tough momma of
6
mine! Gets through anything I tell you. Tough brick, made out of solid material. I really
can’t wait to see and hear the whole story here!” I exclaimed. We begun quite the chat,
she sounded like she was quite the natural when it came to multi tasking, but knew a
large majority of us out in the world much prefer procrastination (I included!).
I went for a short walk, down a hallway to see if the monsoon had slowed, but no.
That took away just the perfect amount of time as Dr. George, (who was the doctor taking
care of my mom) was standing in the front room waiting for me. He was the really
friendly sort, loved to laugh even under such harsh conditions. Dr. George was well
known to our community; he would volunteer at the majority of events with a gleeful
face who was really ready to hang out with anyone. He pronounced the world citizens all
his friends, and he convinced us all very well of the fact. We always wondered how such
a happy person could have such a horrid job, seeing people die all the time. He was
deemed to have a bright face remarking “I help people, can’t say life would be worth
living without helping. The way I keep on going is through smiling in this tip of
circumstance, doing this kind of work. Though I like to make a habit of smiling. Keeps
things in proportion that the vast majority of things out there aren’t going against, life
isn’t really that bad”. I always remembered joyful little quotes he would say, defiantly an
idol of the town. “So your mom’s a tough brick” Said George. I thought for a second,
“Don’t I know it!” I exclaimed. Though I would probably never actually think or admit to
it being the end. I don’t do goodbyes; I’ve decided to shun them. George defiantly is a
friendly fellow, he continued as we walked down the hall “ Well, she had a piece of
cheese stuck between her esophagus and he pharynx, luckily we didn’t have to do any
form of operation. We found a way to melt it, yes in a very basic term we melting the
cheddar cheese cube then she was able to swallow it like normal melted cheese from a
fondue.” I thought yep, now that must not happen that often. Being mom, well actually
being from the family I’m from you can often catch each other nibbling on something. To
stay upright we need fuel and by golly we’ve found what we need to zoom away! We
both let out big long chuckles about this incident. He continued: Though you should
know its nothing to joke about as funny as it sounds, she could’ve easily suffocated or
choked to death. Luckily, she landed in a good position to keep that cube of cheese from
entering where it shouldn’t deeper. It remained at the very entrance of her pharynx. I
wouldn’t be too surprised if your ma would be laughing at herself right now. Before she
couldn’t see or hear or talk because her body was trying to use all her power to get air
circulating, and for heavens sake keep that cheese on the right ground! “Yep, we need to
keep this one in a book!” I exclaimed. He seemed to agree very much as well. Now,
we’re about to enter her room where I hear a few different noises..
“And I was just about to go ask what the golly she was doing, when I started
chowing down on some cheese.”. Yep living proof that we live well. Recovery in
minutes, it must feel just like a one of her hospital visits now only she is the honorary
guest. Shes never going to come out out here now I thought to myself, just like a
protesting kid she’ll say “No not right now, just five more minutes” or “Do we really
have to, I want to stay for a sleepover!” with all the “please ,please ,pleases ” at the end!
Hey, hey there, I barked to my mom. She responded with a wild shegrin on her face
“Didn’t think you could loose me just yet eh? Darn it! Just a cube of cheese, one thing
you should know I’m certainly getting my calcium and protein. Teaching you children
well with the motherly example” I had to let out a long elapsed chuckle, today had been
7
such a crazy mix of emotions. You know what I think, it was way too sudden without any
actual warning which never has happened in our family before. All I think it was, was
you not wanting to let me go as soon as soon as I would’ve liked. That got a few gasps
from both my mom and Doctor. “Why there is no place better then here!”. My mom
made sure I would get a nice talkin’ to and find out where I was coming from. Of course,
we would’ve been through my explanations a few times by now already. “But one thing
mom,” I begun to say “Shouldn’t we have let dad know where we have been, I mean he
most likely is worried to death having his little scared out of his bones movie marathons
of pathetic two year old movies. You know how he gets eh?” I had to let her know he
probably has gone through all the different steps related to being worried about a spouse.
First signs they might not be coming back, then sending out a whole city, hell not a city a
whole province or town! What else? He’d bring out all the junk food and huddle in a
corner trying to think about nothing else but toddle tots shows. I know mom wasn’t in a
hurry to leave; my dad is a little more of a normal human being who wouldn’t know why
a person would like the hospital, or many things my mom liked. She was just odd that
way; my dad was a little more sain, which I think the two needed each other to balance it
all out. Secretly I think mom needs dad more then the other way around, but they love
each other anyways, mutual feelings couldn’t be happier for them really. My dad is the
old man type, the stereotypical old man. Some people are just naturally born with the
want or wish to be like an old man, he s got all the characteristics of that dream I tell you!
His normal routine, sit on a big comfy oversized Lay-Z-Boy, lounging around with
coffee, cookies and a newspaper, would make him perfectly content. Just then while
listening to my mom and the doctor and some of my moms fan club from the hospital all
huddled together talking I had the greatest thought. You know if I told her that dad would
be worried sick perhaps she’d want to come away from here sooner! But then, I thought
for the love of family I could spare a few minutes, (God hope it won’t be longer then
that), give the old lady what she wanted and call on the old technological payphone.
Those things have existed for what? Five years now, and are already going extinct,
luckily in places like this they’re bound to have a few. I was for sure in for a lurch on this
one. Just picturing my dads answer when I tell him all my piles of new information. I’ll
probably be dying of laughter from my dad’s mellow calm voice, then tell him she fell
down unconscious and you know why “Cheese cube stuck at the edge of her windpipe”.
I’m the kind of gal who loves imagining how life will play out. Yes! There is, there is, a
pay phone and its only just about a hall away from where my mom is, pretty conveniently
located for my eyes to catch. I like when what you’re looking for seems to be right in
front of your face, though I mean in a bigger context then just finding the pay phone but
hey, that’s a pretty good start I think! Dialing those numbers doesn’t seem such a thrill as
it was for me when I was much younger, and the things were new and novel. Yep, drop in
a quarter, dial the number and there you have it, your own ancient messenger there for
you to connect with others no matter how far. “Yep, Yello” I uttered through the phone.
A few quiet moments went by without a sound, and then I repeated myself. Silly old dad
caught up in some space article in the newspaper, just had to finish it before responding! I
wonder if he would do this to anyone else or maybe only with his kids. “Hey there,
Kristianna, uh is that you?” he said in such a civil, quiet good-humored manner. “Where
are you, thought your mother was over to help you with something. At least that’s what
she said.” With a knowingly sigh in his voice, he continued “What is that old lady oh’
8
mine up to now?”. “Well dad you asked for it, kind of the main reason I’m calling, she’s
here at the hospital” I stopped because I could hear my dad suddenly freaking out (which
is so un normal for him) and I had to set things straight. “Don’t worry about her dad, shes
conscious and everything. To sum it all up she had a cube of cheese she was nibbling on
while speaking to me or something, that went down the wrong way blocking her
windpipe causing her to faint.” What I said came out in a great fountain of words,
sometimes you just got to give your whole explanation quickly or you might get
interrupted a thousand times with questions that hence could’ve been answered in that
long flow. He let out a ton of laughter, good ol’ dad, life seemed to be good when heard
of hilarious happenings and he just happened to be linked to them. He told me to bring
her home as soon as she got her chatting out, apparently she was long over due for a visit
anyway, and dad said it isn’t a wonder she got pulled back somehow! If someone misses
that lady natures got a way of bringing her somewhere, even if it’s not for the greatest
reasons. She defiantly has a quality to her that turns the bad into good; I don’t have that
quality so now with that call of my mind I’m a step closer to getting away! How will I get
out of the hospital without a mode of transportation? Ah well, she’ll be able to walk
maybe we will bus it or be real fancy taking the taxi. I’ll keep the option open. With my
leisurely walks in here, at least I can now say I’ve examined what a hospital looks like.
There’s some education for a day. What else? I got some good laughs in and some food,
lots and lots of it. Some real good exercise as well! Must’ve walked at least a mile with
all the hustle and bustle, which is a pretty good record for me I think, yes. Like a crazy
bat out of hell I entered the room implying to my mom that we might want to leave, dad
seemed scared out of his body, couldn’t handle not knowing where you were in his old
age. “My foggy brain, says that’s not how my dear man acts” She retorted to my
statement, but then continued, “I do suppose we aughta skidaddle out’ta here. My
daughters been real patient don’t you think, waiting all day for me, the old folk!” was
what she proudly spoke of. My mother got off the cot she was resting and chatting on and
started getting ready to depart while trying to ticker off any conversations that could’ve
begun and lasted for ages. While this happened I asked Doctor George what method of
transportation would be best. I really quickly latched onto the idea of taking a cab. He
warned me though, those things are getting bigger and bigger, so they’ll be asking a lot
more money for a ride in one. Not that they haven’t always been expensive I thought to
myself, but I suppose I’ll listen. “Kristianna, they’re trying to fashion them up by putting
ridiculous pin strips on them though! Apparently, it’s the in thing, they are all getting
their big chunks of steel vamped up with these things” He laughed to himself as well as
conveyed to me this message. Man did I feel a great assurance just then, I really need to
leave this place, its true the evil strips are stalking me now. Even more intensely then
before, you know I really can’t stand them and the way Doc, told me about them I don’t
think he sounded too impressed either. I finally caught up with my mom in the front
lobby, surprisingly it was pretty straight forward from there to leave this place, we exited
the front doors and there were lines of taxi’s just waiting for us. Told the driver the
address and to hit on the it, I’d had a long day and really I just wanted to get back home.
Don’t get me wrong, usually I’m more of the out and about kind of girl but everyday
seems to be driving closer to ultimate battiness, if you can imagine what that might be.
For those who can’t get an image in their mind, my days have been like bees chasing me
everywhere I go, yet about one hour a day without hassle. Like most taxi drivers, they
9
like to talk. God knows why though, don’t they just sit around their car praying that
maybe they’ll get slightly more business today because yesterday was just lousy! To
mind they’ve always been little insiders groups, they’d know whats going on inside the
taxi world which greatly effected them just like we all have some kind of confidential
we’re bound to. This taxi drivers, and most likely all taxi driver’s who liked to wait by
the hospital were into other peoples business. The whole drive our driver was saying
“Are you sure you’re okay?” and “Whoa, pretty dramatic” and “Should I drive you back,
just to be safe”. He was repeating himself way too much. By the time we got to my
parents place, I would normally stop in for a while, out of insistence but also, I just can’t
stop my love for candies and baked goods they always have on hand. I catch myself often
going straight to the cookie jar when visiting, hoarding it all for myself. Usually we’ll be
chatting and I’d be munching away, talking with my mouth full and then it would click.
“Hey, hey guys, do you want some?” I would get a response “No dear, you’ve been
deprived of home baked food made with real ingredients eat it all if you want!”, and so
that phrases would be repeated every single visit. We dropped ma off, with a quick laugh
and take care of yourself. Maybe in a few days we will try having a day like today should
have been. Of course there’s no point directing a day, that’s just a recipe for opposite
days of what you may have requested. When we got to my place, I was asked to pay up
all of about $150 for a 30-minute drive. Of course, I had to make a point of mentioning
something about those hideous looking pin stripes. “Just a suggestion, those things are
hideous looking, you may just loose some customers because of just that fact. Trust me, if
any other taxi at the hospital didn’t have pin strips and if I were still as desperate to leave
a place just as I was tonight you would’ve lost business” I told the driver on my closing
note. My time to enter the house and see what disasters Gustave have created, what other
disasters might have happened just on their own. My driver gratefully thanked me but
also said “Don’t know what you dislike about the style. I personally love them and
haven’t come across any individual complaining about them!”. Well then, ouch. I’ll just
leave it I guess, don’t hold a chance at winning your support against them do I now? It
was just me, pushing myself inside to see if I wasn’t alone on this, if it were possible for
a driver to dislike the style, but obviously, the worlds all in favor for em’. Should’ve
known all along.
As soon as I got home I went over to the quarters of Gustave my little cat gone
bad. Friends from school last year convinced me to get him to keep me company, until I
find a guy to live with. What did we do? We made a great big day out of it searching for a
kitty, I only decided on Gustave because he was discount but, and I quote “fine just like
the rest of our cats.” He’s never been normal, and let me be the first to tell you how many
health problems he has! I end up spending more on his medication then my emergency
meds like Advil and vitamins combined! Another weird thing, Gustave definitely gets
nervous with any forms of weather but particularly constant rain gets his back up. His
meowing drives visitors up the walls, (I know reverse, cats should go up the walls not
guests!) he gets afraid and pretty protective when he meets new people unless he just
happens to like them or becomes “pals” with them quickly. All in all he’s pretty swell but
he’s got a lot of character, human character that I wasn’t so much into but lets say I’ll put
up with him now, since I’ve put up with him so far there is not a way I’m just letting him
go. Just what I wanted to find though, my couch lets just say its on its way out, pretty
well clawed up. See when I’m gone for too long it’s my things I buy with my hard earned
10
cash that are sacrificed. Eventually I’ll convey to my family how glad I am they have
more then enough money to help me out in times of desperate need for money. This
house will need lots of repairs done before I’m out mostly thanks to Sir. Gustave destroys
a lot, kitty knight of the round table. He’s off on a quest to collect all treats around the
world, for he is the brave Sir Kitty who is not afraid to fight to have any excess treats on
hand! Not a door is left untouched by him, though they are the only defense keeping him
out of designated rooms for human species only, he doesn’t read the sign on the door,
rather he sneaks in whenever I try to get something quickly from the room. Maybe
though, I’ll talk someone into watching that my house gets sold and repaired, that way
I’ll spiffy up my deal and strike a compromise, getting out of here not too terribly, too
late.
Before going to my bed, I went into the kitchen to get myself a nice snack, my
kitchen is most likely the most expensive room in the house, with a high ceiling, an alter
of my favorite selections of food on hand, some nice pristine sliding glass doors as well
as a super nice double your average size freezer and fridge set. Believe me, that wasn’t
easy to get my fingers on; I had to do lots of hunting for that through auctions and stuff
but stubborn searching pin pointed down that fridge! No siree’, If someone dare says they
have a better kitchen then, I don’t know what source they’re getting their facts from but I
can tell you they’re dead wrong! My nice sliding doors caught my eye, it had a little note
sticking to it from the outside, what a weakling, it looked to my eyes as if it could just let
go and fly away with the wind any moment. But, after saying that I came along to rescue
it hence saving its life! Look at that, Miss Kristianna can feel good about herself today
saving both a little note’s life and my mom. Both gravely in danger, although for my
mom it was cheese and the note was about to be taken away by the enormous gusts of
wind, though I think the non-stop rain could’ve easily made the words illegible. Sliding
the door open with a brisk oomph, I got removed the sticky note and hurried into the light
to see what someone had left. It read: Dear Kristianna, It was very nice seeing you today!
But the both of us were just too shocked by the prospect of you wanting to leave here as
diligently as possible. We never actually imagined you leaving from the time you came
here, not you! Please some clarify to us, our spirits that you aren’t actually leaving your
best friends, who just happen to be your neighbors. For, you don’t know how much this is
affecting us; if you listen you may notice us turning into introverted little mice that won’t
us their voices to sing their song as we do usually day in and day out. We miss our festive
voices, what shall we do without your quick confirmation of your safe staying?
Best of wishes, Signed Smorla & Geoff.
I was literally under hysterics, just too much for one day. It was hilarious what
attempts these old folks were going to put themselves through to make sure I didn’t stray
too far. None of my fellow neighbors really cared who came and left, and usually at least
I think, there should be an understanding that young ones such as myself will come and
go until they find themselves approaching retirement. Even then apparently some folks
out there travel more then ever in their old age. Though I’m under the impression
Hycallin’ is its own world sort of sheltered from what actually happens normally out
there. I think I’ll be a naughty rebel and not respond to them, make them wonder whats
going on, then I might stand to get a little peace and quiet then I’ll leave a note on their
door when I’m moving. Yes! Perfect plan. Though little was I thinking that there were
many flaws to the plan. People can easily take notice of a big moving van, and Callins’
11
know enough that, that person isn’t just driving around in a big ol’ truck for the fun of it.
Another great flaw, Kristianna hasn’t thought of is the fact that people hear can easily get
information and track people down. That in fact happens quite regularly, you want to talk
to someone or locate them just ask an associate of the person and without thinking,
maybe this person doesn’t want to hear from you they’ll say “Yep, here’s their phone
number, address, if you need anything else don’t hesitate to ask again”. Basically all
that’s person’s identification info has been given in 2 seconds? Its extraordinary, when
you’re planning on moving you can find so many flaws in the place that you’re living
even if you absolutely loved the place. But like I said before, for me this is a special case,
nature and human inventions are quickly chasing me around the bend and I need a way
out of this place!
After getting ready for bed, and crawling into bed I had several thoughts that kept
surfacing and resurfacing. Like, what if I moved someone and it turns out the place is
even worse then here? Where is the perfect place for me to move to? I fell asleep thinking
what will I do with Mr. Gustave? There is defiantly not a doubt in the world that he’ll go
insane. Though he was just the insane type, I had no idea how badly he would react to
totally different surroundings. The quiet whisperings on the trees and the land
surrounding me gave me the assurance; yes you should go to sleep. Don’t worry you
know you’re an avid dreamer; maybe you’ll get some answers in your dreams. Yeah,
yeah that was true about me being a real big dreamer, but all my dreams are blown way
out of proportion. I guess that’s a skill I need to acquire, to downsize my dreams into
what seems fair to happen. That night my dream was quite vivid, consisting of a definite
yes, you should leave, no assurances of Gustave, which really puts me into a quandary,
though something’s going to have to come. “Kristianna, the world is at risk, nothing is
going right and the turmoil is all beginning here, where I am right now.” The voice in my
dream said. Gee, I wonder who that can be her voice really sounds familiar, where is this
center of turmoil? “Hey, sorry I was just out dancing in the fields, quite a nice day with
pansies surrounding me, the brilliant light gleaming over the land. What’s this you said,
nothing can be wrong in this good blue and green earth created here. Not after this
fantastic day. NO! I refuse. NO, Nothings wrong!!” My dream begun picking up
character, real personality, and lots was going on. “Shush, Kristianna, hush youself” she
responded because she sure didn’t like to wait. “Just listen to me, last night where I am
the fire scorched the roads to nothing but old ruble mix. The fields have dampened; far
too much water has been deposited here. The spirits of the citizens are low.” I seemed to
be quite aware, at least in my sleepy conscience. Though I always wondered, maybe it
was possible to understand things in this life by drawing from not actual things in this
world. Its hard to explain, but it’s a reoccurring thought I’ve had. “Now, tell me, where
ARE YOU? This is very vital information, Miss, uh… well if you would of just told me
your name I could be more polite to you. I’m good at solving figurative stories but I’m
not so sure if this is one or not. Just guide me a little foreword..”. Then the dreamed
stopped. Like that’s all I’m gonna give’ you tonight cuz’ if I feed you too much
information your poor brain will become overloaded and collapse, like the fall of Rome
and that’s all there is to it. The rest of the night went achingly slow; no other dreams
came along, only that brief snippet of a dream. Now this wasn’t fair, if I’m in for small
dreams now, small dreams where I don’t even get the answer to my questions I prefer not
to dream, or perhaps actually enter the mystical world and explore for myself. The drip,
12
drip, dripping of the rain landing in the rain barrel. The tick-tock,tick-tock of the clock
and the various other noises, welcomed me awake for another day, yep look out the
window and what do you see? Why yes, why yes so fortunate to see…I’m still in
Hycallin’, isn’t that delightful eh’ mate? I’d just like to see how you would like it here.
Now is the time to brush my hair, brush my teeth, eat my fruit and get up! I really
despise mornings, if there were a way to just skip them I would so buy the formula or
whatever it would be marketed as. I love the nice cozy feeling when going to bed, I love
being in bed but not the crazy tired feeling from waking up. Wow, that sounded quite
weird to me, myself. Perhaps, my career can be inventing something that relieves you of
the “early morning, getting out of bed feeling”. If you’re wondering what I’m doing in
this town, why I love it so much, uhh…wait a minute why I loved it so much, then heres
a little bit of the reasons to get you all familiar up in a brief little flash. After being told
that my families always lived here, I for some reason took that word and made it into
“This is the best place in the world”, so I’ve grown up thinking there is nothing better. Of
course there was the fun little field trips, the small school with lots of good friends and
lots of tradition, here’s to you Hycallin’ for making every holiday you can think up of
into a reality. One year I suggested having a flower day and what do you know about a
week later I saw flyers going up all around, “Come to our fun filled flower day, with
everything flower to delight your and our love for flowers!” Let me tell you, we had at
school we’d get half the year off for these holidays, plus the P.D days and the standard
holidays. All children were always delighted over that fact. I have to admit; the scenery
here is something else, pretty much like a great big mystical forest with shimmering
waters flowing through and around us. I had loved the serene sense, of nature
surrounding me, and nothing else was there to distract me if I indeed wanted that, from
time to time. I found a great first job, through people who I knew here so there really
wasn’t any reason to leave. I worked in a call center; yes it was for tourism, trying to pull
people into coming here their next break and telling them what we had to offer. They
really didn’t need that many people for this; we did have a very east work schedule.
When I say easy it was darn easy, and even at work everyday was sort of a slow day so
we would always chill and plan activities. From that job I met some of my closest friends,
my job and high school friends are my main buds who I am closest to today. Juggling the
job then with university became good, once the owners decided they really only needed
part time workers (like I said slow moving business, not too effective bring people to
visit) I decided to take puppetry. I’m actually very proud of this fact; I found something I
really loved doing, a career I would absolutely love to pursue. Where am I now? Well I
have no job, and take each day as a new adventure but this town is growing in the number
of flaws it has so I just need to get out! I honestly don’t think I’ll have a problem finding
a place to live; I want a totally new experience, out of the norm. When I venture out of
here the first thing I’m out to find is some great hopping gummy frogs and once I find
that I’ll know this is truly the right time for me to go off on this adventure. A little
confirmation goes a long way.
Today is a jolly one; I’m going through all the mountains of stuff I have piled up.
I’m thinking about throwing some of it away, but just thinking. I store things in my
parent’s home if I want to keep it for long term. Who knows when you’ll wonder
something and want to go back and find it. Suddenly, a tremendous collapsing sound
came from the backyard. From my eyes all I could see was my great big oak decaying
13
from the middle on down, but the rest is history. It toppled over and crashed to the
ground, taking up half of my fenced in quarter of an acre back yard. Not only that, but
from the corner of my eye I saw a shiny spark flash by for a small moment. Then a high-
pitched snore like sound came streaming out of what was, the trees core. Not being
suspicious one could just easily say it was a insect of some sort. I wouldn’t buy into that,
the noise created seemed to be breaking the sound barriers across the globe, irritating my
eardrums and sending Gustave off on a quest to see what on earth is this? As soon as I
would have the chance to go out an, inspect I just knew whatever the unknown thing was
wouldn’t be there anymore. I slowly walked in the opposite direction, away from the
sliding doors, where I had been witnessing and hearing everything going on. Wandering a
bit, to see if perhaps the noise would stop when I went away, but nothing about hoping
would work. The noise stopped for a brief moment, then hells noise came out wrecking
havoc noises streaming out, like the worst tuned stringed instrument you’ve ever heard.
From the corner of my eyes, I could swear, something was moving, coming up from
below the tree, but indeed this wasn’t anything normal, anything I’ve heard about being
seen before, or something I’ve actually seen before. I couldn’t judge just yet, but
whatever it was I could sense wanted me. Unsure of anything I stayed away, if it was the
case of “the thing” wanting me they knew where to find me, and that is right in the house.
Curiosity that streak never leaves me, I had to keep watching for it popping out, or
turning into anything larger, or different from what little I’ve seen happen so far.
Gustave now is hovering by the door, I don’t think it is quite possible for him to
see whatever is out there, but as sure as hell he must be able to hear it loud and clear! The
irritating noise seemed to zap your ear. Once you heard this noise, you couldn’t stop
paying attention to it, its like it was drawing us in. A bait, reeling the fish in, but why
would it want me specifically. I find it funny how everyday some outrageous event
happens prevented me from doing what I intend to do. Some people would take this as a
message; I don’t really know what I think of it as. Just snapping into my head, I
remembered there would be no chance of me using my phone; it was now going to the
garbage. From the outside, the ground seemed to vibrate, all the little molecules of
ground and grass and flower seemed to be bouncing around, mixing together. The thing
is, I could’ve predicted the tree falling eventually with all the horrific weather, but the
way the tree fell, the way the ground is vibrating, the way the high pitched noise is
driving us up the ying-yang and most of all the way the little shiny spark looking thing
turned into something purple and totally unknowable. I thought perhaps with the phone I
could give the town emergency center a call, see if all of Hycallin’ was being effected.
This was a center, we had, just incase of town wide emergency. Members of the
community could always call to find out if something weird was going on, or maybe call
and coincidently find out they have a brain going haywire, loosing their edge. “Meep
,meep ,mee, Sam I think they’re in here.” I heard from the back of my head. Okay, this
defiantly wasn’t just me. A few quick scurries around the dirt and a sudden stop where
what sounded to like there was another one of them out there. “What? You say they’re in
this weird looking bucket? I don’t know but don’t you think we should go back to the
ship?” responded Heyjox. Okay, so I just heard a loud squeal, they seem to have been
hibernating or sleeping when the high-pitched noises were sounding but right now, all I
could hear was seemingly high pitched squeal talk. If a human was heard with their
voice, they would defiantly not be too welcomed anywhere. You pretty much have to
14
adjust the way you hear things to let in an unusual tone of voice in. I went to the window
where Gustave was now clawing exuberantly. The purple creatures now just meters from
the door, walking straight over like two men on a mission to get as much junk food as
they can for a movie party watching gladiator or something. Though these little guys (I’m
assuming), looked like they were coming on what was an extremely important mission to
them. About one foot high now, with a little smiling face, quick little waddle feet and
glowing eyes. Weird thing about them, they seemed to have the capability to evolve into
something else, more complex in just seconds. To me they reminded me of cute little
happy ogres, only purple. A little tap on the window was their knock to come in. Their
beckon call to come in sounded like “Weee waaaante too caalme iinnn Meeissis.
Plleasee, weeeeee caalmme, waass seennt fooor yooou”. Each word they spoke was
extended, and each letter was pronounced in an unusual way then what is the norm.
Perhaps they have their own way of pronouncing things, we’d get a long alright though at
least they weren’t speaking Cantonese or some really random language space Martians
speak. I begun shaking, after all I could be deported somewhere, or hurt or who knows
what all could happen with the unknown. Something told me to give them a chance
though; obviously they couldn’t harm me too bad. I knew of super rare exotic happenings
were possible, but very unlikely. Though some animal species could hurt someone if they
wanted to from ten feet away, that hadn’t happened yet, for all I know maybe they
specifically came here “off their ship” to come talk to me and ask for directions to the
town center of town to meet some of their other odd ball friends or something. I opened
the door and Gustave sprinted out onto the Heyjox and Sam. For about 5 minutes there
was a whole rig merole over Gustave being a funny thing, never ran into something quite
so hairy and big. Obviously, they weren’t a new species on earth I gathered, and
confirmed with myself that I was in fact right when classifying them as abnormal. A great
blast of giggles came, they seemed pretty impressed. It is apparently a ritual of theirs to
be welcoming to everything they came in contact with. Now, they entered the kitchen
where I sat on a small dinette chair, just waiting for one of their headache giving mouths
would care to begin talking. It was a surprise to me when they suddenly, levitated up for
a few moments and landed on the dinette table I was sitting near. I gasped as I witnessed
this; they seemed to be all just so happy with themselves. They had impressed a human,
which little did I know was soon to become their greatest joy in life after abducting some
of us to their domain. Heyjox spat on his little purple hand, spread it around and placed it
on his forehead. I imagined it was his way of making sure he was handsome and clean
enough to exchange words with me, not to be full of myself but I had a feeling that could
be a possibility. “Ahhemm, Misss wee cammme heree onn a shiipp. Calll caamme
deefinatlly not lonng ago, yoouu waantttedd a different ppaallaccee too liivee iight?”
Heyjox spoke constantly pausing, and seeming to be nervously going over his words,
making sure the story of the events was flowing right from his mind, translating into
words. Very thoughtful creatures, they seemed to be. I thought, even if this is just a silly
imaginary game or something, I’ll play along with it. Though boy did this seem exciting
having, mythical or magical or extraordinary rare interactions with them. Defiantly a
question I needed to ask, what species they were. I couldn’t just keep going on calling
them “them”. In these types of situations, my mouth will stay shut but my brain sure goes
into overdrive coming up with questions by the hundreds it would seem. “Heyjox,” I
begun “so nice of you to come visit me” I thought for a moment, with the look of great
15
anticipation on the faces around me, what would I say next? Actually a good description
of these creatures before not knowing much about them, they seem to at least look like
purple ogre action figures. “so, I was just sort of wondering, are you targeting me,
bringing me to some sort of pow-wow, I mean what is this? I don’t quite understand this
is totally new for me, like right off of time. Not even a whole day only a few hours, and
us humans consider that not really a lot of time, don’t know what you wild things think.
Though.” I finished my phrase because it seemed as though they were ready to spit out
some more answers at me. A moment to or two later, after everyone seemed to have
collected themselves the high pitch voice started speaking again, “uuuhh, weee hears the
cries of anyyooone, theeeyvees seeend uss onn thhe shiiip. Wee uuunndddeeerssttaandeea
you wwwaantts too move, wee wants too iiinnnviiiite you to our placee.” Heyjox, stated.
Sort of repeating himself, but from what he just said I understood they wanted me to
come back with them. I knew, it would take forever with their sort of, not wanting to say
impaired speaking but they were harder to understand then the person with the thickest
accent in the world. Maybe, this one time I could let my curiosity lead me to the land I
was being offered to go to. Pulling all the information out of them would literally take
years, so it is to go or not to go. Consistently, my adventure streak kept surfacing though,
which proudly encouraged me to go wherever I am led. Out of the blue Sam decided to
talk, his voice a little easier to understand, his words were coming out a lot more right
pronunciation, but an effort did have to come on his part. You could hear him sort of
rolling the words off his tongue cautiously, sort of sounding them to himself. “Miss,
ppleaaase. Listenn, we come frooom farrr, yoou seaak adveennturre, an improved waay
of lliyfe, cooomme no further theenn Cyberious!”. Sam let out a pride smile, and a two
thumbs up when saying Cyberious. This place sounded, well liked by the joyful pick up
of a tone, and the pristine pronunciation. Cyberious, the word rung through my ears, out
through my lips Cyberious, Cyberious! Plastered smiles on the creatures face, an excited
buzz going through the air. The way they worked, when a sense of boredom, and a loss of
hope was felt to being the state of someone a team from Cyberious would be sent down. I
didn’t know this but, many weird peculiar events would happen, testing you to make sure
you really deserved the chance, that you really truly wanted an escape. Not just from a
particular place on earth, but from the world. Somehow they picked up a sense I was tired
of the world and needed something new. They were the sign of hope, a new creation, a
new way of doing things; a mystical intervention was what goes on. A procession of
trying events is the test, and then one odd event occurs when a team of those guys reaches
earth to come to speak to you.
It was approaching dinner, I was expected to go to Cyberious straight away, I
hesitated a little, I knew this wouldn’t be any small deal, if I went right away I wouldn’t
have time to say bye to anyone, get the house information to someone to help sell it.
Basically all that boring stuff would just sit there and I really didn’t know how much
contact I would have with humans. Believe me it might be pretty extreme if there
happens to be zero contact, but the thought of experiencing something totally unreal,
dream like just fascinates me. Never the less I will miss everyone so. Convincing Sam
and Heyjox to wait an iddy bit of time was quite challenging, but I lured them into
staying and waiting by the fabulous feast I decided I would make. It was fantastic, I loved
how just a simple human food could seem like such a delicacy for them, but hey I guess
they don’t eat like us. This meal consisted of freshly made lazonya (the concept of eating
16
something hot was totally new to them), garlic bread (in which the pieces of garlic looked
like narly little white insects found in Cyberious), salad (they were completely lost at the
idea of putting dressing on to add flavor, oil is for fueling those ugly pin stripped vehicles
over population your planet earth, salad was the leaf home for bugs) and to top it all off
we had a splendid marble cake. The two of them offered to help clean the dishes but I
laughed, “You two really think you’re big enough to clean these dishes, you actually had
to sit on the plates to eat!” Then it hit them that are right how did we ever think we would
be able to clean them, or dear me. Instead they went over to Gustave’s eating corner and
seemed to be conversing with him, or trying. A few minutes later I could hear their little
screaming voices as Gustave charged around the house at full speed with the two of him
on their back. Those two are crazy, just like a child. Sooner or later I could only predict
my kitty to end up charging into a wall or something. Then it hit me, would I have to
leave Gustave here, would it be wrong to bring him along? I wonder if he would fit on
their “boat”. Would I even fit? I just couldn’t wait any longer to see how this was going
to play out, sure I put all my trust in them already so whatever happens will happen, but I
don’t know if I’ve got a hold of knowing what exactly I’m about to go through. I mean,
after living in Hycallin’ my whole life anything would be a bigger deal for me then for
lets say, a child who’s parents travel yearly because of their profession. Maybe, I
should’ve just gone as soon as they had wanted to because now, I’m just preoccupying
myself. I can’t think clearly, of what I should do before I leave that is. I paced around the
house, several times, looking at each corner, all my belongings. To make this work, I
needed to feel less attached to all my things, for all I knew I might not even be aloud to
bring a long one possession of mine with me. Of course, hopefully that isn’t the
circumstance but pacing around gave a sense of what I defiantly wanted to bring with me
assuming there would be no way to bring it all. I begun writing on a piece of paper the
possessions I wished my parents to store for me, the items I was fine with for selling in a
garage sale for charity funds. Look at that! Another day off for the children here, town
wide garage sale day! I was noting down what I wanted my siblings to have, my brother
Timmy, my little sister Charlotte. Hoping, I would be in contact I decided to leave
everything as is, though I probably would regret it later nonetheless. The note I created
was started to sound like I was recreating my will, so I stopped that and scrunched it up,
chucked it into the garbage can from across the hall. Missed! So, I thumped a long and
placed the trash away. I walked over to where they were and the cat, so I could describe
to them bed time, and to ask a few questions. “Hey, creatures of Cyberious” I said,
referring to the creatures from that place. Clapping my hands a few times, and whistling
got their attention all right. They said in their land two claps and a precise quick whistle
was a sign that someone wanted to perform an act. Pretty artsy folk, I concluded, as they
danced around me saying, “Tell usss, whhaat is yooourr, quuuuuestion?” The dance,
admit tingly, was pretty irritating like mosquitoes hovering you, of course not a chance
they would go away, or back of even the slightest bit. “Guys, I was just wondering, well
for the whole time you’ve been here, well you haven’t told me too much. I guess there’s
just a lot more that will be shown to me once we actually get to Cyberious. But the most
basic question, I want to ask you, what exactly are you?” I asked in an extremely curious
tone, since I had it with not knowing what they were. My mind would be continually
boggled if I didn’t find out soon, and waiting till our voyage to their land would be a little
later then I felt like waiting for. They seemed to break out in guffaw. “Miss we are the
17
strong, prosperous creatures inhhhaabiting Cyberious” A short pause as they continued to
laugh, it sounded to me to be sort of a nervous laughter, as they revealed their families
identity, they sounded pretty new at this job of going to land and bringing back humans
to their planet. Surprisingly they spoke in perceptible voices, making it much easier to
understand what they were saying, I could take a break from straining hears my trying to
hear every word they spoke of. They continued in unison “We eat pie, build a great new
world for all of those who live there to love. Miss, we are Adelliens meaning we are
noble. This is the standard we are to live up to for this is what our name means. Now our
only hope is that we display this for you!” They broke of, sort of gasping for air, happy
they finished that. Sort of sounded like someone had told them what to say, so if us
humans asked who they were, they could respond. I begun to think, yes nobody would’ve
seen the Adelliens, only the bait sees them, for if someone else did see them who knows
if their missions would succeed. I’m sure some of their missions to earth must’ve failed
because of mindless mistakes like forgetting to walk cautiously around, and running into
hunters who kill anything animal like insight, that are obviously wild. My mind was
enchanted with all the wonders befalling upon it. Tomorrow I would be off, off to live
with all the other Adelliens and live the life everybody would want if only they knew. It
sort of feels like a club, in which, only the lucky enough ones can enter. I responded “So
cool guys, your species defiantly sounds like a kicking crazy awesome!” They looked at
me with an eccentric look on their faces, like what on earth are you saying women. Your
excited ness is making you say weird things! “Say Heyjox, you too Sam, I think I’m
heading off to bed, can I show you the bedtime ritual?” I decided to say; maybe it would
be best to have an early night of it. Looking at me like I was crazy, once again they said
“Buuutt, noo! Yoou mmustee think weee craazyy, noo sleep for usss.” They peered over,
nodding their heads with their little ears perking up, as if to confirm the idea of bed was
just a hideous one, like what was I thinking? Pff, bed who needs it anyways? I for one
absolutely love it, but the point was made they had an opinion to the contrary of mine.
When I go to Cyberious, my first quest, well maybe not my first quest but one of my first
100 explorations will be noting whether Adelliens actually sleep or not. I can hold it
against Sam and Heyjox if they do in fact sleep, because they probably just wanted to
look around for the time being, while they were on earth they may as well look around
right? I allowed them to stay up since I most certainly wasn’t a parent and felt like I had
little authority over what they did or didn’t do. In fact, we took it upon ourselves to
acquaint ourselves as friends. From being told, the Adelliens, whoever comes as “your
team” to collect you away will always be considered special, relationship wise. The
Adellien’s to teach you along, and also to ask questions. I had a want to look them up on
google, but was pretty sure nothing would come up. Defiantly, I will take it on myself to
look at that sometime soon though! “Heyjox, Saaaaam!” I yelled. Once again a quick
scurry scurry, scram, match to get there on time went on. “You to, I’m off to bed up the
stairs, which lead me to a level above us now. Its sort of like a mountain for you, if you
know what those are. Anyways, good night fellow Adelliens, it was my luck to come
across you today, wasn’t sure what it was in the morning, we were totally freaked!”. The
two acknowledged the fact that perhaps there ship was a little big and ideal, inferior
compared to the transport we have here in Hycallin’. They once again stated, they were
sent to me, there was nothing stopping them from coming and me finding them, it was
just meant to happen and so the story goes. We bid a nice evening to one another and I
18
went up the stairs, Gustave following, looking like he needed a much needed break from
those two, not quite used to them I think they begun getting insanely on his nerves
although he was surprisingly tolerant. There would be no way to tell, since Adelliens are
for sure not even closely related to humans.
Running upstairs, to the bathroom like a mad person on a rampage, only I was
only aiming for getting my teeth brushed not really going on a Wild West rampage
adventure. Periodically though, I get these weird spasms that make me run wild and
unstably out of control, usually out of control. This wasn’t really safe but at least these
spasms were usually confined to private spaces for me. The departure from my home
would be grueling; I was only just realizing what a wonderful bathroom I had all along
and only noticing now. The freshly painted walls added a complementing touch to the
sweet scented vanilla that sort of moved through the air. Sort of like those air fresheners
that automatically scent the air every so often. The only difference is with my bathroom I
have none of that chemical stuff, it just seems the natural scent came with the place, what
kind of person am I to never notice this! There was the greatest lighting system that
seemed to illuminate the room, making the room glow, like it was a ballroom or the most
enchanted place, in the whole house. Of course, we know that isn’t really true, like what
do most people do in bathrooms anyway? We don’t actually spend that much time in
them anyways, its not like we’re naturally prone to going to the washroom and hanging
out in there. The Jacuzzi bathtub, I had only found out how to use it a few nights ago! I
know I’ll ask God tonight for some Jacuzzi tubs in Cyberious. Adelliens hopefully clean
themselves somehow and I’m hoping that is their way! I love how I’m noticing all the
good points of my house now. What do they say; you only realize what you have when
it’s gone? Nah, who lives by those words, I’m not being pulled into that. But isn’t there
the possibility that what you’re going to get is better then the deal you’ve got right now? I
walked over to my bed, after taking a deep breath and fell back into my father duvet,
what a nice feeling to just let yourself fall back, relax and sink in. I really did not recall
the last time I let myself do that so I was ever thankful, this opportunity gave me a night
to unwind. During the past few years of living in my own home, I rarely gave myself the
opportunity to just un wind. My mind has always been a constant racer, just part of my
make up, the thought of a total new life starting tomorrow, made me want to just soak up
the rest of the goodness this home, this place had to offer. Would I be able to stare at the
stares, out to the heavens where I would be? Would there even be such a thing as stars?
So many questions were invading my head, making it hard to focus. My body became
tense, but slowly I drifted off, the little joyful voices of the Adelliens from Cyberious
yammering on in my head. Soon the dreams started coming, the visions of me singing the
lumberjack song in German came as a surprise. I hadn’t expect myself being able to pick
up a song like that in a totally different language and able to whoa! Sing while balancing
on a tight rope and then balancing and flipping, then many different jigs all at once!
Some dreams have no apparent significance; they seem to be there just to make us laugh.
I am convinced it is possible to be laughing, maybe not in the physically but somewhere
mentally I laugh constantly at myself, and all my dreams, giving myself some extra fuel.
Following that ridiculous dream and welcoming voice appears, walking down a stony
hall it looked like, with little drops of water tapping to the ground in the distance. The
Adellien seemed to approach me, coming closer and closer. Echoes now sounded, as the
seemingly large Adellien at least compared to (Heyjox and Sam) came running through a
19
cave leading to what seemed to be a roadside with millions of different creatures,
although it was possible they were all Adellien’s all evolving, and at diverse divisions of
life from one another. Miss Kristianna, It is I the chief of all Adelliens, here in Cyberious.
I speak to you from the very center of a land called Cyberious, I won’t speak too long or
in too much deal, your mind will be blown away, and you don’t have a brain capable of
grasping what a great change this will be! We sensed your longing to come, and it is
indeed pre destined for you to come, we have known this since the very beginning of
time here. You will arrive, very much dazed, it may in fact take you days to remember
how to talk, maybe even to remember where you are, but don’t worry before you get
here, we will take care of you with our bouncy fun ways, never letting any new comers
down. From what your team has told me, you wished to stay one night at your dwellings,
this is perfectly acceptable but to stay one more day, if you so feel a yearning to do will
be un acceptable, you will have to pass this deal and you will forever be in misery in that
revolting town of Hycallin’. It is my duty to welcome you ever so graciously, so you
know under my allowance, the chief has let you come, if any of the Adellien’s will
question your existence on our land, just state that under my will and power I have
brought you into being onto our planet. Do rest up, I will meet you when you arrive here
very soon, you will know my name, you will hold a very special place in our realm. We
can all hardly wait for you; we know you will not turn back on your decision to come.
Just a final remark, do not worry about what happens to your earthly possessions, where
there is a will there is a way, so if you believe that then there will most certainly be a way
for you to sort through all your material possessions. It may be trying not seeing humans,
it may seem like a terrible thing being bombarded with us but soon you will be taking off,
going to great heights here, you won’t really mind the set up. Dream on lovely, dream on,
soon you’ll be flying, dream on until your dreams come true! He then waved to all the
Adellien’s behind him, behind what looked like a stump that he was leaning on. Heading
back where he came from, I thought, though now what happened after that point became
foggy to me. A blur, cutting me off from that dream for some reason, bringing me to
some more seemingly insignificant and defiantly dull and boring. The dream, I was sure
was real, I mean the dream from Cyberious, it had to be. My dream zone, was like an
antenna, picking up signals and bringing them on over to the receiver. I had no doubt in
the world, that I would ever miss this place and want to return after sky rocketing to this
land that seemed to welcoming, filled with spirit, fun and noble pie eating giants! I
thought to myself in my sleep, one thing is for sure, they eat pie, that’s a sure sign they
aren’t too bad in selecting tasty treats. I was awoken at around 5:00 am, to the noise of
chattering Adellien’s below me, they seemed to be frisky things they later they stayed up,
and the longer they were around. Just judging from my experience so far, though there is
a possibility these two showed them differently then most conducted themselves. I had to
keep in mind this wasn’t there normal environment, this seemed to be there only fault,
which was pretty good, they didn’t come and attack me, they stayed respectfully
downstairs, though they are defiantly loud! I could just picture them wanting to follow
me up and wait till I soundly got asleep, creating everlasting noise, which would’ve
resulted in me never getting to sleep or unwinding. I drifted back and forth between my
sleep and consciously being awake, well barely conscious but just sort of being awake!
The fact that they picked their noise levels up at that time of the morning meant they
couldn’t seem to control it any longer; they just kept becoming constantly uproarious.
20
Sort of reminding me of steaming water in a kettle, it becomes louder and louder until at
last it is ready. One thought that came to my mind, perhaps they were signaling me, oh
great my own alarm clock, without a snooze button! I was not about to give in my
stumbling my way down the stairs at only a quarter past 6:00 am. Maybe, there was a
scheduled time we had to depart at, so I knew in my mind I would sleep a little longer but
not too long this time. Lets not miss the boat to China!, err. or Cyberious, we’ll say!
I jerked around, stretched a bit, as if I were preparing for a race, though I was
really trying getting myself together. Even if my little bit of stretching doesn’t get me
very ready, physiologically it does, so I think that is the thought most people grasp to
when they begin there day with stretches, only a quick 5 minute blast of them though. I
wasn’t about to get out of bed to do them, today, my last day in what was known to
humans, on earth as bed, I wanted to maximize my time in it! Now, if I can just
remember the bare minimum, before I strut down the stairs then I’ll be ready to take off.
To tell you the truth, if I went down there now, I ran a great risk of them whisking me
away leaving me with myself and a pair of clothing to bring with me. Since I had no idea
what this transporting journey would involve, I wanted to be just like a pro and ready to
go when I reached Sam and Heyjox’s presence. Now, wiggling out of bed got me in gear,
I felt I could be ready in as little as ten minutes at the rate I was going. Its funny how
little things such as playing the worm game to get yourself out of bed, actually psyches
your brain. Good grief, who knew just adding a little bit of fun could help us get out of
bed on time when we had the pressure of getting up by a certain time. Today would be
another walk in the park, no pressure just a quick easy release from this world. No! This
shouldn’t sound like suicide, but the from what I just said it sort of sounds like it, you
know maybe this is the new suicide, when in need the Adelliens hear you out, and sweep
us of our feet. Oh what lifesavers, better then the candy I have to add! I quickly, walked
over to the washroom to do all that normal preparation stuff, washing my face, though
today I was trying to make it extra sparkly clean. I don’t know why I felt the duty to
make such an effort to look pristine but somehow I had an urge to look impressive.
Maybe it was just my impulse telling me, the Chief expects all humans entering his land
to be pristine, not a speck of dirt. Quickly, brushing my hair, brushing my teeth and
getting that deodorant on in a timely manner was the name of the game this morning. I
exited the bathroom door, and heard a high-pitched gasp coming from directly down the
stairs. I looked down and stated with a laugh “You guys, I know you’re there, I’m
coming down the mountain don’t you worry, I’m coming on board your ship today, even
have my ticket!” They exchanged glances and peeped “Miisss Kristiannaaaa,
hhuuurrryyy uppp hhuuuuuuman, weee coulllddda beeeen oooout byy nooow.” Heyjax
said. Okay, ideally they do expect to us to get up at the crack of dawn, well no ideally we
would’ve left ten minutes after I was convinced I would go yesterday, but any who. Just
to get them off my case for my last few minutes on earth for now at least I yelled down
that stairs “Be there in two minutes okay,” That actually sounded like something would
have said to my mom, in the same tone of voice and everything! Their voices seemed to
die down and they slumped down and waited for me to be ready. I would perform my
famous 45-second dash, getting dressed and being all set to go, I would perform it only
when necessary today seemed to a good enough occasion. Looking out the window while
getting all my clothes on, the rain continued to pour, yesterday it wasn’t so dramatic but
today all I could hear when putting my ear to the window was the spitter, spatter of the
21
water on the window pane, the wind picking up and an obvious sign I knew oh too well
that Hycallin’ would be having another one of those days where all you want to do is stay
home, get cozy eating chicken noodles soup with a blanket and watching movies on
television. Speaking for myself at least, I love the warm summer rainfalls, like in the
tropics but I could pass with the cold pouring rain, which never seemed to halt. Okay,
mental checklist, still getting the leaving earth point glued into my mind. The list sort of
looked like this: Hairbrush, myself, a few pairs of clothes and my potato I had sitting in
my fridge for half a year. Yes, this potato is my best friend I’m telling you without this
potato, the world would have fallen into ruins before now. The story of the potato
remains a secret, you need something wonder about, I’ll leave the story open for you to
fill in the words, just guess what happened! Anyways, as far as my list goes, hopefully
they’ll understand my thinking, when they see me carrying my old pal in his little box. I
would also ask just for the heck of it, if Gustave could make it over with us, I really
didn’t like the thought of leaving him to anyone else, we just sort of clicked as far as the
pet/owner relationship goes.
I leapt down the stairs, mentally saying bye to different aspects of the house, as I
past, like bye railing, bye oval window, bye pretty little bird cooperated okay! I landed
with a large thump on the ground floor. Quickly, without any lost time the two of them
were right in from of my two feet, Gustave following close behind. He was so observant,
Gustave was like my little man, and for the life of him he would always protect me and
keep a watchful eye on things. I hope the shock of my disappearance won’t leave him in
such a big quandary if I were not to take him. Hopefully, my brother Timmy or my
younger sister Charlotte will come to the rescue with capes and fancy hats and all to take
him away. The most ideal thing would’ve been to give him to my parents, but I know
how my mom can’t stand him so, plus they both have mild allergies to cats that have
developed over the last little while, it would likely become intolerable If they did take
him in. “Miiiiisss oour limiiitt, ittsss streeeetched, weee caaannn’tte waiiiiit lloonggerre”
Heyjax implied politely, trying to keep his voice under control. I understood from the
way he was talking and dancing around a little, maybe he had to go to the washroom
before departing. I just slipped that in, he acknowledged me and off he went like a bull,
kicking off wildly from the dirt beneath him, only it was actually floor. He ran to the
kitchen doors, I thought he was about to run into them, thinking he could somehow
magically get out by doing that. Actually, that’s exactly what he was able to do! He ran
straight to the door; hit it with a loud “oooowwe” blurting from his mouth and a thunk.
Slowly walking back, and then moving quickly straight to the door and he made it
through. Wow, these are different creatures I’d be learning a lot of new tricks from
observation. He went to the limits of my property, and dribbled in the corner, where the
tree had fallen. The very tree I had seen the two Adelliens spring out of, in a few different
forms before seeing them in their ogre like form. Heyjax seemed to be waiting outside so,
Sam said we aught to go out there and join him. I let in a deep breath, maybe in this new
planet we wouldn’t breath in air, and maybe there is something else that humans can live
off of too? Maybe this world isn’t all that different from earth; perhaps it’s the same, only
with the bad things of earth not present on Cyberious. I was getting the last minute
nervousness, like the kind you get when you’re just about to go on stage to face a large
audience with all eyes and ears glued on you. Sam was trotting of, but I spoke in a very
quiet but firm voice, which has its effects. Sam turning around, facing me let out a little
22
“huuh, wwhaatt nooowe?”. I responded “Well nothing, just going through my goodbyes
to this earthly plane. Nope, that isn’t it; I was really wondering and hoping that maybe
just maybe, I could bring your good friend and my pal Gustave with me to Cyberious. Ya
think there would be room?” I asked in a questioning, convincing voice, one that
hopefully there would be no possibility to saw no to unless it was true there wasn’t going
to be enough space. Though I thought, if they had enough room for me about one
hundred times there size they would have enough room. Then again, it came down to if
they welcomed cats there, or maybe it would just reck havoc to their land bringing the
good guy over. I listened carefully for an answer, though being sure I wouldn’t receive
the kind I was hoping to hear. Sam looked like come on we really need to get going,
we’re stretching the visit longer then we’re usually suppose to be on earth. I wasn’t aware
but there was only so much time that an Adellien could be in a different atmosphere then
Cyberious, if I had known this I would’ve hopefully been a little quicker. Because of my
sluggishness, I took precious time away from two mission trips they could have
embarked on in the future, it is good I don’t know this yet, or else I would think of myself
as disgraceful Kristianna taking away precious time away from precious duties of these
two wee Adellien’s, taking opportunity away. Sam looked panicky like we had no more
time to stay on earth; causing a quick-triggered response I’m sure. “hhhave to go! Have
too gooooo! Leeeeavee Guuwwssttaaav, alllll earthllly posseeeesiooons willll beee
tendeeed tooo, dooo nottt worrrrry.” I couldn’t protest, going a long with the two tiny
panicking Adelliens, I was off and running, Sam was in the middle of pulling that trick of
crossing although the door was closed, but coincidently because I had opened the door at
the same time he missed and instead ran through the small crack. For a moment I did look
back, not for too long though, for tears were immerging into my eyes. I didn’t contact my
fellow humans and I would pay for that later, because there are nothing greater then
friends. It is a hard thing leaving them to wonder and worry. I looked over my shoulder
glancing at Gustave, hoping he had all the cat food in the world tracked down. Though,
with bad luck all members of my family had a key so they would be able to enter my
house and check what was going on if worse came to worse and I wasn’t in fact able to
call. Just putting my trust in citizens of the new world, I would be a part of that’s about
all that can be done as of now.
“Okay guys, I’m ready lets get going, don’t want to wait any longer. Now or
never is what I am ready to say just about now!” I called out. The two responded
“Vveryyy gooood, wee wwwere sttarrtinggggg to quesssssstion iff youuuu wooouullllldd
evvvvverr beeeeee reaadddddaaaayy!” They said smirkingly, though they knew I wasn’t
the type to take it seriously so they felt they could joke around and use different tones
like that without, me getting offended or anything. Standing in the pouring rain, watching
them set up, was this just a fluke. From stand by, it looked as though they were referring
to either the big tree or something so microscopic near the tree that I couldn’t even see.
They were signaling me with their hands, I was pretty sure it meant we were to go
off now. Romping my way over, to hope on board. To any human this whole
transportation would be considered, un possible, strange and completely foreign. Heyjox
had already leapt into “the boat” that we were taking to the port then transferring to
something totally different, which will be another new experience for me. Two different
modes of transportation I never even imagined about experienced in a row! It was now
my turn to get on board, Sam was there to help coach be in, and was to follow me in once
23
it was verified I found my way. Just to make sure in the remaining last moments, just
before getting on the ship, I asked “Hey are you sure, like 100% there isn’t any chance of
me hurting myself trying to get on here”. A quick reply confirmed to me, nope none at all
now just go already. I’m sure they must of wondered how I was going to get around from
planet to planet if I was taking this long before leaping in. Though then again, there
should be an understanding, and probably was and understand that I was overlooking that
they would give the time to adjust. Three, two, one congratulations you’ve successfully
entered your boat 3701 port boat that will take you to the transfer point to Cyberious.
Please do get yourself oriented, and do ask your team for assistance if needed. Enjoy
yourself! That was the automated message I heard, while coming onboard the ship. Two
seconds later, Sam seemed to successfully of gotten on and, we went off right away. Of
course, I was totally stunned, not quite sure how their guidance to enter this tree that
truthfully is coincidentally a ship called 3701: Port boat. The way I entered was basically
by sprinting as quickly and I could then diving into a small precise grove located near the
bottom of the tree, where the trunk would be if it were still standing up. The condition I
am now is sort of hard for the human mind to grasp (I’m sure!), but I will take a stab at
explaining it, get ready to hear something out of this world! To the world, these ports
came in various different forms, like in my case it was in a form of a tree. They’re
disguised to the world, so the secret doesn’t get out, so that the Adelliens will remain
safe, having Cyberious and Earth clash would not be a good thing I’m told. Once in the
tree, you break down into small particles, all loose and floating so that the boat can be
more compact, supporting the weight of the Adelliens, all the equipment and various
rooms as well as being able to support the human on board. Though I wasn’t so much in
my human form, only in particles, I still had a mind and I could see, but not through my
eyes. I could wander, and see but it was more the case of seeing through my dreams,
because there wasn’t a way in this world, or should I say in any world that it would be
possible to walk around. It defiantly is a neat experience being in a different form. So I
can hear whats going on outside, but that doesn’t mean the world can see whats going on,
and there’s no way of telling from inside if the world can hear whats going on inside.
Heyjox and Sam had been chatting to one another, about successes of the mission, about
how cool they thought earth was, well at least my little portions of the earth, which you
can’t say, every human lives the same way that I did. Heyjox and Sam, then said that they
would have to go move to the room near the back of the boat, the meeting room to
discuss with the Master of Cyberious a following up all the Adellien teams had to do
while returning. It was quite interesting, although the ship had different rooms, I could
hear everything, and no boundaries could stop the information and various sounds from
getting into my ears. I absolutely love it! If only I had this capability all the time, but I
guess it would get kind of strange not having my body for long amounts of time like that.
The boat seemed to be jerking along, in a large body of water, though I took it upon
myself to relax and not panic too much. A great point to this form I’m in is if the boat
somehow swerves out of control, (which I was assured nothing would happen so I’m
counting on that!) I would be safe from anything that would otherwise hurt my outer
body in a normal circumstance, my outer shell would come back to me, I had not asked
when but I was sure once arriving at Cyberious or at the transfer I would be in my normal
form again. Ah, nothing like a feeling weightless, while moving now on a jerky stream
hearing about 6 different voices at once, with my conscience the loudest one of all, that
24
kept nagging at me, saying don’t do this and don’t do that. Then what can I do, just
ignore it I guess. It was a good thing that I was immersed with the Adelliens right away.
If it had been little by little meet a few more, with lots of other species around, I wouldn’t
feel the whole picture, what I would be experiencing for a while now. I liked getting the
whole picture right away instead of, like the trickling effect; slowly immerging to the life
I would live. This travel gave me some time, to listen from the background, get a sense
on how they communicated, contacted one another, some background information
without having to ask, but just listen and see from observation.
The ship started to jerk; we were told it was just a little bit of turbulence going on,
the rocks were making the ship rock from side to side, with the intense wind. If
the boat had been bigger, ideally I think for weather conditions like we’re
currently experiencing it would be nice to have the full body weight of a human,
to keep the ship from being tossed over completely. A little announcement came
from the captain. So we’re experiencing a little rockiness, we hope to be steering
away from this in the next ten minutes; meanwhile we hope you’re very
comfortable. Please don’t let you eagerness get too high, we’ll arrive before you
know it, but don’t be counting down keeping track of every second that has
passed. There was a silent pause, not just in the middle of the announcement, but
every living thing on the boat became silent. It mystified me, wondering what
would happen if I suddenly decided to let my voice speak out. They must have
been trying to communicate, about the safety of the pathway we were taking, or
who knows what all. Just a few more minutes of this silence and I would surely be
dead, slip away without any of my earthlings knowing (or so I thought). All of the
sudden, a abrupt and a very loud thumping was heard on the main level of the
ship, which was suppose to be kept vacant, we could only walk on levels below.
In the entire world I actually trusted the Adelliens for keeping my safety first, but
I think their assurance was in terms of any natural disasters causing danger. This
defiantly was no bolt of lightening; it had a very animal like sound to it. Then, just
as quick as a penny can there was a huge boat wide surge of light, so bright it’s a
wonder our Cornelia weren’t burned to a crisp. With that a message quickly
followed, a frantic one at that. Everyone aboard, and I mean everyone get hidden
now, find a spot and stay there until the word gets out to do otherwise. This is an
emergency situation, go to a hiding spot now, all doors will be locked in a few
moments, don’t let a word drop out of your mouth, that ol’ swain will find you.
The end of the message was sort of cut off by static, and scream from the
background that you could hear if you were listening closely. In a nutshell to add
to this frenzy dilemma presenting itself, many of the ships light bulbs just blew
out, a reaction from the massive surge. In a matter of seconds, we were left in the
dark, unfortunately the Adelliens seemed to be very obedient in terms of listening
to small instructions. Not a high-pitched wallowed peep sounded from anywhere.
In fact I could argue that presently is the loudest I’ve ever heard. The utter stop of
constant chatter, and the cold watery night kicked in with the drama, usually
drama and night go well together. The echoes of silence compared to all the loud
high-pitched voices actually does ring out in my loudly. Earlier, embarking on the
boat I had been so mixed emotionally, but the main emotion there was
excitement, readiness to experience the ultimate. Whats left now? Fear,
25
exhaustion, some more fear, you can throw in some other emotions in there just to
complete how I’m feeling here. Picture this, a poor girl, without a body hovering
around a ship with a foreign you haw with a bunch of freaking out Adelliens, with
all lights off and not a chance of us being aloud to talk. At school, this was
everyone’s dream back in the day. We actually welcomed action, most of us were
plotting a story to bring in some dressed up guy disguised as a major threat
terrorist who had come to strike Hycallin’. This way we could pull a much-needed
prank on the school, having the staff and teachers wondering, was this not just a
hoax. Though, having said that it was just a plan, it never actually happened. I’m
just making a point, we had wanted to experience a lock down for the life of us,
and did it ever happen? Nope, of course not! Not a chance in good ol’ safe, and
friendly, place of the earth, Hycallin’. Such were the thoughts going through my
mind, while finally getting my wish for filled with some added drama, aren’t I
glad about this one! The quietness was killing me, that locked doors keeping
everyone separate, though if this went on for much longer, we would surely
witness many axed windows lying on the ground. Another thought, maybe we’ll
be lost at sea drifting away from our goal to get to China, dang it too late this time
I guess! From the main stairs that connected all the floors of this ship together, I
heard a loud voice, defiantly very prominent. It sounded like an older gentlemen,
with a husky voice probably coming from a place with many bottles of alcohol. It
sort of sounded like he was swaying about, with blood shot eyes and a foul
mouth, nothing good was about to come out of this guy’s mouth, even if you
happened to encounter him on a good day. The only thing wrong, how is it logical
that the man could’ve gotten onto the boat? Maybe he was one of the creeps from
Hycallin’ who took pleasure in stalking people for fun, perhaps the girl diving
into the log seemed interesting. For all I knew he could’ve been staring and
someone how knew the technique or picked up fairly quickly what was involved
in getting on board. Some how, he would have had to shrink though, and it
sounded pretty evident he was defiantly still in his body form.
The information out, about Cyberious is rare on earth. It is never the
possibility that there aren’t those who stumble upon some piece of information
leading them to Cyberious, and the people we talk about are the ones we
specifically try to avoid to leave off our planet. In anything, there are those who
get secret information through ways most of us cannot comprehend. As much as
our efforts may try to shun, and keep these intruders out, there is nothing stopping
these forces that will persist forever more whether most of us like it or not. Some
people are born with gifts. These gifts aren’t necessarily used in the right way,
well actually, as a fact they are usually used in a harmful or arrogant manner. In
such a light we cannot just succeed in killing these people off. In Cyberious’s case
they would have to just accept that these blasphemies ended up there and
somehow with their influence they had hope to foster coexistence, to result in less
outbreaks. But in fact, it has been stated before these humans who walk on the
face of Cyberious danger the planet, put it at risk. When something like this
happens, the feat of the planet will become weakened and the Adelliens will have
to eventually put up a noble fight, in order to keep the planet that is theirs
flourishing. The Adelliens are the only ones who know Cyberious, therefore to
26
have them wiped out would not be a great thing. In the prophecy of the planet
Cyberious, it states “To those who rise and fight the forces against us, keep your
force, you heart and your nobility in peak form. We have an ideal escape created
here for humans who are deserving, we have a flourishing world of prospering
Adelliens we can’t give up”. So it is said, the effort to fight of another enemy and
persuade it to come back to earth would be a challenge faced at hand, quite an
urgent one at that. For the history of Cyberious, it is true it is a far better place to
live then earth, though when some mishap happens, it cannot be said anymore.
Kristianna’s prolonged time on earth, keeping Heyjox and Sam waiting for far too
much time on earth had now served the consequences. The man on the ship had
followed indeed, a homeless man who’s brains were shot but his side order of
brains that were working actually somehow caused his arrival on the boat. It is
expected that he turned in the same form as Kristianna had but somehow the
process went wrong and he became a mini version of himself, causing no harm
for a grand total of about five minutes. This man though seemed to have been
suspected of knowing some insider information prior to witnessing the boarding
of 3701: Port Boat. The information of course isn’t about to be exposed.
I was left to wonder what was going on. But just a thought I had, a small
little thought, if they had remembered I was in a condition of complete invisibility
to the eye of course, meaning I could scare off anything I wanted. The thought
excited me, though if I did actually put it into action I’d be scared out of my mind,
he couldn’t see me but I could see the old rusty guy standing. From the distance,
the man had fallen to on the stairs for a while, breathing heavily like a werewolf
just waiting for something to eat. Hungry for blood, only waiting for the right
time to strike, and why can’t that time be now? Ah yes because he’s got a plan to
make life hell, because you need to learn a lesson that life can never be perfect no
matter what you’re told. The guy seemed to mumble with his horse voice, once in
a while a cough was let out sure from his cigarette overdose, just a characteristic
of the kind of person he sounded like. I drink all day, smoke all night and in the
morning I plot to stalk people, and one of those plans are bound to work, yes at
least one of them! In just about a moments time, after the long exaggerated
mumbles a loud laugh echoed through the corridors, and from the corner of the
gentle frauds lips you could hear “I haven’t got ya, but I will, and when I get you
I’m going to get you bad. Yes, you I’m going to get you bad”. He seemed to be in
the too drunk to talk properly state. His words were already choppy and
demeaning, but halfway through the phrase he seemed to let a hoarse laugh come
out. Like I said all too normal for the guy. I didn’t know how badly the Adelliens
reacted; some of them might have had to handle certain circumstances like this
before. But, a thought came out, this is Heyjax and Sam’s first mission, they
probably would be shaking out of their skulls right now. I was passed the stage of
worrying, and quickly moved into the panicky stage as the man thumbled about,
basking himself to the door to the main area of the inhabitant’s floor (where we
were). I had known that a few Adelliens were present in the same room I was
hovering in (or most of me I should think, but who knows where some of my
particles might of run off to). Hey, wouldn’t it be great if the guy were an axe
murderer too? My greatest fright was being left on the ship with all the Adelliens
27
dead, in a ship that had drifted off who knows where? Though I knew what was
deemed a perfect life couldn’t end up so horrible so quickly. Who knew a first
move would be so dramatic? The man seemed to be picking at the door, not with
his fingernails but with a great big tool in hand, and indeed this tool was the
newest most updated form of an axe you can get now a days. After not so long it
got to the point where it was impossible for me to keep my mouth shut. Maybe
the consequences wouldn’t be so bad if I opened my mouth before the gent had
made his way in. Though having said that my voice might cause more motivation
for him to continue his trek inside, but at this point probably nothing would stop
him. The full fact was, if I opened my mouth now it would confirm the fact that
this wasn’t just an abandoned disguised to the human eye ship. I would have
endangered us all even more, just by trying to protect us.
The truth is here, once the vulture is let out there is no way to tame it, keep
it under control. If it seeks to kill and pry at pray you can’t just stop him that
easily. By the time you have a chance to influence the vulture he’ll be gone or
after you! Better be aware because we are currently, all surrounded by these
creatures that only want to take advantage. Metaphorically I considered this guy
to be the worst of animals, seemingly like a vulture. Once it wants something it
won’t turn around, nope not until he gets what he wants, and in this situation I
was all but certain he would want me. Why would he choose me, as a target was
all I was wondering? There was constant prodding at the main doorway, in which
there was no doubt there would be a break through any moment, we just had to
wait. With each movement of the axe, it sounded like a million arrows bolting
through the air. I kept on twitching, if I was in my bodily form who knows what
state I would be in, but I have a feeling that I would be pretty close to wanting to
die. At that very moment, a faint trickling sound came down the wall behind me.
Just to add some distraction, I could watch out for behind me or in front of me. I
had always loved horror movies, so much that I would often become so wrapped
up in the movie I would forget I in fact was not the main character experiencing
all the drama and that I wasn’t even in the movie at all. A small glimmer of light
was noticed, just blinking at me. Did it ever stand out, after being immersed in the
darkness and seeing light stream in I was almost inviting it, until it clicked maybe
this isn’t the best thing? Out of the back of my mouth arose some quick words to
scare of the man, just out of instinct. “You, don’t know what you’re about to do
but go back to your home and pick on something worth being picked on!” I
noticed that it wasn’t just a dream then, this was all happening. I could feel a
surge of tears coming on, as I drifted all alone not being able to stop the force was
the hardest part of all. I wanted so much to be protected, to know I could get
somewhere without they’re being a big scene about it. Using my weakened voice,
feeling ever so helpless I said “Leave us alone, nobody wants you here”. On that
note all I could hear was some more drunken laughter and added aggravation,
which brought on more force bringing the door down in just minutes. Only
imagining the fight I would have put up in my physical form, I would’ve tossed
the man to sea before he would have even realized he brought an axe with him.
Just then, captain Adellien came in with a little flashlight not speaking but pulling
me forward signaling me to follow him. Without a question that’s what I did, as I
28
saw in the distance and emergency portal with a great big iron door, which looked
as if it weighed 10 000 tons. In front of me were all little mini Adelliens walking
in single line formation coming from all different directions carrying lights
leading there way. There must have been 50 of them all together, which would
have mainly been the ship operating crew, the captain, Sam and Heyjax (my
team). The door opened up, the screws quickly falling to the ground with the door
plummeting hard on top. The gruesome old man following, in about a second I
expected him to stumble, because clearly he looked as if he had no balance at all.
As the man broke open the door, the huge iron door was closed with the help of
all Adelliens working together to close it as well as some automatic power
assisting. I would call that teamwork! Now that we were securely closed in, all the
Adelliens and I were observing one another, making sure we all looked fine, with
a lot of hyperventilation. The squeezed tight room, comparable to the size of a
small cabinet forced all of them to try extra hard not to shift around or take up too
much space. I was surprised that not a one opened their mouth. Surely, I thought
we wouldn’t have to keep silent here as well; some vital messages at least should
be able to be passed on. This was clearly a soundproof room, and most likely the
safest room on board, though they seemed to be taking huge precautionary
measures, which I guess, I shouldn’t hesitate to follow. Surely in a few moments
we’ll be hearing the high pitched frightened little voices all at once, telling their
stories of how frightful they had been along, how scary the experience was and
hopefully they could solve it once and for all. A loud bang was heard even
through the iron door. Some form of noise or another persisted for the next few
minutes though seeming like hours, the threats of the man were calling out though
even if his axe was certified one of the best axes you could buy, we were safe as
long as we stayed in the iron door. If I had teleportation ability I would defiantly
follow him, to keep an eye on his were about. We wouldn’t want to budge until he
was surely out of the way. But if we could only hear the story of what to do in
these kinds of situations, we would all be clear on what we were to do next. The
time would arise when we wouldn’t want to be stuck in the room any longer,
which would force us to act on some sort of existing plan. The only plans we had
now where non-existent, which wouldn’t get us too far and would probably cause
us all to scatter off into different places.
Though it has been known in the past for humans unwanted to make it all
the way to Cyberious, it does not happen necessarily each time. As the world of
Cyberious progresses and creates new forms of technology or maybe tuning into
characteristics of themselves they have not learned about before it is possible to
stop this unwanted person from getting all the way. Though it depends on the
crew at large part, if they are exceptionally noble Adelliens then they will be
granted strength from the chief to have the task of protecting the planet of
Cyberious as well as its fellow citizens and welcomed guests from the wayward.
Although, like previously mentioned it is still highly likely in these rare
circumstances for the traducer to be aborted in the early stages of travel. It is
however possible if they are thrown away before the portal where the method of
transportation is switched then you will be successful. It says in the book of our
planet these words, so that is all the proof needed to say they are true. If you
29
succeed in your fight, your trials will indeed rewarded for. Cyberious will rise up
in gratitude for the strength you choose to use against those threatening the
greatest civilization known to the universe.
In the darkness of the room, with all the huddling bodies a bright glow
came on in front of us. Although it had no sound, I could imagine a great
triumphant orchestra opening for what was to follow. It was suppose to settle our
minds, while we waited to start strategizing. What was shown was a clear bright
message in the written form, huge and brightly displayed upon the wall. We were
to give this information to plan our action against the enemy forces while letting
him stumble around finding what he wanted to seduce. I only could imagine how
many plans were being stirred up in all the minds below me. Everyone on earth
must be wondering where I went. I was sure that my parents would get a search
party, that Gustave was being his frisky self, only to the maximum without me
being there. Now, I was only starting to realize how important it was to let
everyone know at least where I was. Nobody knew, absolutely no one, and people
can’t just forget about someone’s existence so easily. The urgency to talk to
someone familiar was growing greater with this added detour to my trip, if there
was a little of the known I would be more okay. When something out of the blue
happens that someone doesn’t experience everyday its bound to hit hard, and
believe you me it has. A few minutes went by taking in reminders from screen on
how to handle situations such as the present one at hand. Without notice the voice
for the intercom spoke, surprisingly in a very clear voice, which I didn’t think
would be possible. She by begun “As you know we are all stuck in here, until we
combine all forces and structure our ideas together we will be stuck here a long
time.” Everyone seemed to nod in agreement, and it seemed as though everyone
was willing to work hard as long as they could get the chance to leave once the
enemy was defeated. Continuing she spoke saying “I haven’t issued any of you
talk yet so just listen for now. Hopefully you all understand the extremity of such
events; we had to act quickly in order to insure our safety and ultimately the
safety of Cyberious for all the coming years. Though not to scare any of you, it is
very likely unless we come up with a very mindful solution to compete with that
which the drunken man out there has our very planet will be in danger. Please lets
not let our fear too much ahead of us just yet. Having said all this, our travels will
be delayed further even if we do get rid of the man before changing portals.”
Everyone gave the message transferring Adellien a good stare, like whats up with
that. Finishing off her statement she said, “What I was meaning their folks, was
that we have clearly gone off our normal water route. We will be able to find our
way around but it will just take longer then expected. When noticing the man on
board, when the overall big panic started with the lighting surge, the steering
became messed up. Our goal was of course to keep all 50 aboard safe, as well as
Kristianna calm. We do apologize oodles to you, normally its just one step closer
to paradise but I’m sure its been one step closer to going down the drain. Lets
finish informing ourselves of what the great book of our land advises us to do,
then I will notify you all when we can discuss. Just so you now I expect it won’t
be too long, it can’t be for we have to be out of this boat in three hours from now.
We’re stretching the limits we should be on land so you are aware. Nope, no
30
pressure just something to think about so we can get this done fast and
progressively.
It was quite interesting to witness the great attention given to those who
were speaking. I was certain if just a random Adellien decided to control others, the
others would respectively just listen and do as they were told. Talk about crazy! If
there was a moment where the door randomly swung open I would get a peak,
because in my mind it would be a possibility if we all wore paper bags to disguise
with the wooden ground and maybe pretend we’ve escaped, to confuse the guy into
thinking the ship was now abandoned. Though honestly the guy’s brains sounded
even more fried as time went on, I think he must have brought some whisky along
with him. If I could get a peak at him then I could make some observations on how
far gone he was, and depending on that we could operate accordingly. The slides
were just about wrapped up, the Adelliens were getting mad fever from being
cooped up too long, just like a child who has been cooped up all day long on a rainy
day after a while you get bored. Well not a while after a very short time, what you
have been doing simply gets old very quickly, it doesn’t take too much. “Okay
everyone” a voice from the front of the room echoed. “If we can all use our mouths
for the purpose of discussion, we will invite you to speak now.” Addressed the
crowd “ Kristianna, If you can, would you be able to check on the state of the
fellow out there, I don’t think its possible for you to get hurt since he won’t know
you’re there.” I responded “Oh yes of course, I would of course be happen to help
in any way I can!” I said in response. “Oh, okay great” she spoke “I’ll have to open
the door and shut it immediately just say make a little cackle noise when you want
back in!”. Okay, so the lives of the crew would now largely depend on me. The
door was opened with ultra speed, so I slipped quietly out and the door slammed
shut in no more then a few seconds. Two eyes glared in my direction, with a large
“uff, the door opened, I’m gonna get you!”. The man was plump with fairly old
tattered clothing. He looked as though he hadn’t showered in days, with the very
unpleasant smell of urine stanching anywhere he walked. With each step he swayed
far off to one side, nearly tipping over. He had an old glare in his eyes, like he was
searching for something and would strangle that something if he ever laid eyes on
it. I assessed that he was pretty far gone and wouldn’t be able to run at all, though if
you got in his way, if you were too close he could do a great deal of harm. Hidden
in his depths was a great deal of psychotic ness, he looked as if he knew way too
much information he shouldn’t. You can tell just from his manner and appearance if
he dug deep if he wanted to know the details on something. I say we should team up
and throw him overboard like the pirates had done to the no goods, toss them off to
sea to have a good life. Once observing all I thought I needed, I went back over to
the shiny steal door and let out a little cackle. The door swung open, I maneuvered
in and sighed deeply. Quickly like before it pierced shut before any chance of the
guy getting in. The cackle was let out as quietly as possible but it seemed to have
been noticed, as footsteps sounded closer to this room. All the Adelliens were
leaning towards the door seeing if they could peer through the cracks to see the man
while I venture out. When they heard my cackle, the sign I was safe, apparently
they had all sighed with relief just as I had when I returned. Of course they couldn’t
see me but they noticed my presence. “How far gone was he?” the captain of ship
31
3701: port boat asked. Then before I could let out what I was about to say the
announcer addressed the whole group. “Listen up, knowing the mental conditions of
the enemy is a big deal, we need to know this before any chance of trekking out of
this room”. I figured it was safe to speak now; “Well, he certainly stinks, an alcohol
addict with brains. He’s stumbling around but has his eyes glaring, so I think if he
caught any of you near by him you’d be history. Although we would need a team
plan if we were going to use force against him, though I don’t know about your
civil law but it surely wouldn’t be acceptable for humans to ravage a human.
Though if you realized this is all the information I can give you, in your plotting
against this enemy of Cyberious, I won’t be able to take part in keeping him away at
least in my present state, though I would be happy to help if you wanted to dress me
back into my body” I finished. The brains surrounding me seemed to be processing
what I had just told them, and were surely coming closer to getting some plans
together. In this congregation, few voices spoke and when they did a voice of fright
rung through.
“Okay so Kristianna, first off do you have any suggestions on how we
should act?” Heyjax asked, I wasn’t paying attention but halfway through the
sentence I looked back and turned facing him. “Well, I know he is pretty well
gone.” I wasn’t sure since I hadn’t been in this situation before, but who knew how
this particular guy would act? Pretty much everyone has a different mindset when
they are drunk. A thought arose in my mind, and this thought was quite brilliant.
Hey, in fact it seems as though it could save a whole bunch of trouble, at the least at
least the plan could save us a little more time on finding an easy way out. “What do
you say that little hole leads too? I just remembered seeing a little circle, if you lift
does it lead anywhere?” A spark seemed to have been lightening in everyone’s
eyes. I would forever be proud of myself if this was the right solution. So easy to do
too! Before everyone was thinking up his or her upscale plans, when really it was
something this easy waiting to be found behind the back door. The announcer then
answered “That in fact does seem like a good plan for the time being! It leads down
to storage space, and a lot of the machinery used to operate this boat is situated
there. I do think it would be safe enough, even if he would have to just sit in a
corner. The only trick is somehow dragging him down there, because there is no
way he will willingly go down there! If we could support his weight our only hope
to bring him down there using our strength would be if he wasn’t armed with any
glass bottles or his axe” Everyone seemed a bit bedraggled, it was such a good
thought but thoughts don’t translate so easily into action. Just then a live message
came from the chief, it never ceased to amaze me how well the Adelliens seemed to
keep communication. It amazed me even more, thinking about how many other
missions were resulting in this nonsensical situation, and yet the leader still seemed
to keep up with communications. “My dear Addelliens and Kristianna” he said and
then continued, “For it never fails that an intruder tirelessly tries to damn our great
society we’ve built up so strongly. Though in this moment you may think you never
will get out alive, it is with my word that you will. We have assessed the
seriousness of this case and have compared it to passed similar cases that are in
close resemblance to what has been going on and 85% come out alive. However,
this isn’t to say Mr. Drunken fellow will not make it to our planet, Cyberious. Just
32
remember it is most important that you get out alive and that you are safe, rather
then worrying about if he makes it to our planet. When you arrive we’ll be right
here waiting. Stick to your gut, if you come up with a plan that seems like it’s the
best one going for you then don not hesitate on using it. Proceed with nobility your
story will forever be remembered and imprinted in our history. Chief Weasley” The
voice of the chief was as loud as the sound heard at a movie theater, and his live
image was displayed. It was great to have a figure that everyone looked up to, that
way we knew where to turn to. I was surprised to not hear such high pitched voices
coming from him and some of the other Adelliens I heard, though I found out that it
those who speak with a higher pitched lispe in their voice received less education.
Those with a clear fine, easy to listen to voice had a well-rounded education. It was
then and only a few moments after the message from Weasley that Sam had a
brilliant idea, combining my idea with a little bit more jazz to it coming up with the
plan that shouldn’t ever fail. I mean it sounded like it would be impossible to beat,
how could it not work? First the Adelliens who volunteered, would go out with the
paper bags to disguise themselves with the wooden floor. They would briskly run to
the trapped door, open it with a lot of teamwork and walk down the ladder. I would
be hovering, just in case the man went after them, so I could use my voice to
distract him, he could hear be but no chance of seeing me! Down the ladder, the
Adelliens would pour some alcohol they had in storage that they brought from earth
and would pour some on the floor, to make the scent drift through the air. Of course
to attract the guy, but they would also add a few bottles to hopefully get him wiped
out for a while. When it seemed hopeful enough, they planned to remove the ladder,
and close the trap door. From then on our plan would be a success, hopefully we
would never run into him again, and we would then carry on our way back en route
to Cyberious. Like I said before, I would certainly believe myself to be at the
transfer point when I arrived there. Just like a group of dogs on a mission to get
bones, we all became very excited. We would actually get the chance to put into
action a wacky plan that we had created, not just witnessing or hearing about.
Though you wouldn’t think it to be possible to get excited over something like this
after going through a whirl wind of emotions, I’m hear to tell you it is darn right
possible. When there is fun to be had, I am not one to waste it and neither are my
pals aboard ready to waste it. It was a tight fit, but we managed as all the Adelliens
were wandering around in the room, preparing their disguises and perfecting
various other elements of the plan that would hopefully begin shortly. Basically, we
needed everyone to confirm his or her role and to be on the same page before
stepping forward. Everyone seemed to be rushing to get the show on the road, let’s
get this action started we all called out!
As the Adelliens got their paper bags on, and assisted one another with
cutting eye holes in one another’s paper bags, the others present across the room
were getting their head around precisely what they had to look out for. Those not
going outside these iron doors were expected to aid somehow, and most of them
decided they would be spotters. They were to closely listen and look for signs of
defeat and hopefully they would be able to warn us in time if any danger was
following behind us. Everyone seemed to be ready to go out on the mission, I was
growing anxious to get it over with and only hoped it would run smoothly, that we
33
would all be on top of our game and not let anyone down. As 40 of the 50 Adelliens
on board rushed to the door, only waiting for it to open the captain of the ship said
from behind us: “Okay, so stay safe and remember to take this very seriously. I
don’t want any of you getting injured by the axe alcoholic psycho moron face!”
Everyone seemed to be in agreement, that guy sounded down right crazy up the
wall. To most on board, really they weren’t too familiar with the human species so
it would be a miracle if they didn’t slip up and go off aggravating the ol’ fella.
Everyone bustled out, one after another in an orderly fashion the bag theory
seemed to play out a little controversial now in my mind. They do disguise quite
well was a point made by the captain but I noticed once all out and making their
move sneakily to the trap door they created much rousing noises. I heard the call to
come out and hover around Mr. Are you dead yet? Oh no I’m not in case you were
wondering! As I waited outside the protected room, keeping my eye on the guy my
eyes nearly became blind. What a creepy looking thing, which I had to look at
really I didn’t take pleasure in having to do so. It seemed to be tough opening that
trapped door, with only 40 petit guys there in the process, but luckily it opened with
a lot of heaving and wishing it would open. “Huh, I said whats that floor doing
now? What, it can’t be opening on its own!” came out from the withering man
resembling a now almost dead flower, the kind fall kills off. “What are you looking
at son,” I blurted out “Why nothing, weird voice in my head, wait where you
coming from?” The Adelliens were just getting down the ladder, so I felt the need
to distract for a little bit. “Well your lucky today, bringing yourself some grade A
whisky, some of the best you could get where I used to live. Now tell me what are
you doing on this ship?” My curiosity seemed to take over again, I was quite sure
the thought of distracting didn’t mean talk to the guy about such things that would
keep his mind on the topic. “I wanted a grand experience of this boat of course.
What else would a guy like me or anyone for that matter be on a boat?” He
responded with an ever-increasing case of the mumbles and the tumbles. So I
stopped with the talking for a moment as I heard and begun to smell the hard scent
on pure alcohol being poured down below me. The Adelliens darted for the door as
soon as they were done their deed and not a minute longer, which was a great idea.
Just as the iron door opened, from the room you heard “MMM, heaven below you
sent me some more of that good stuff. Better run and take a break, lets see if it is
going to be that easy to snag or not”. He stumbled over, practically crawling to the
ladder leading down to the storage room of the boat. Successfully like we wanted,
he found himself getting down the ladder, not too easily but he made his way in
about ten minutes. “Ahh, the nice smells down here and there is even some for me
to drink” He cackled in a sly voice, like that was all he had ever needed; all he is
ever needed was in the form of alcoholic beverages. A true alcoholic he was, with a
great big head too giant for his own good. Only five minutes had passed and I could
tell that he was into the drinks and would be occupied until they were gone so I
went ahead safety and beckoned some help to remove the ladder. There would be
no chances of getting out without the ladder, so he would get just what he wanted.
A prison in a boat with just him and alcohol nothing more delightful for him. The
whole crew of 50 came over hauling the ladder up. Forward and backward was their
motions repeated many times until finally there wasn’t anymore they could do. The
34
plan was just that much closer to being completed. The ladder was now up and it
seemed to be easier for the team to put the trapped door down with the added force
of 10 more Adelliens. You know the saying if you want to get something done you
need everyone’s help, well they really show that in action. Because we had not
decided where to meet afterwards we all just automatically went into the room,
which had kept us smooth sailing. The whole lot of us had gleeful looks on our
faces like we had just defeated the Nazi’s. Though it could have been probable that,
this was the equivalent to that victory for the Adelliens of Cyberious. “Nice job
guys, we all showed what we are made of” I shouted out, “Now can we start back
on our trek normally, like before. I want to see Cyberious!”
Now, with the whole ordeal pretty much in our past it looked as though the
ship would be ready to set sail once again. In the room all bundled up we received
quick confirmation that we could now go about our lives as usual on the boat, just
as we had before. The captain gave a little precautionary speech before letting us
flee from sheltered room, we were now after all grown and ready to flee. We don’t
need these safe rooms anymore! “We were just lucky that the spot on right plan
came to our minds. I think it is safe to say we will operate as business as usual on
this 3701: Port Boat today but if there is any suspicion detected by any of you,
under the circumstances, after what we have all just been through, please, I beg of
you please don’t let it drift! I estimate that we have gone pretty far off route but our
team will do our best to find the most efficient way to get to the transfer point. Any
questions?” That was a horrible question to ask, mostly because the Adellien
species seemed to love to ask questions. Whenever a given opportunity came up
they would ask question after question. It seems as though some even come up with
pointless questions, just so they will have questions to ask! Sam said “Goood oooon
yyyyyouew ffffelo Adelliens, when wiiiiiilll ittttt beee eeeeeatingg tiiiiimee?” That
was followed by a grave laughter from everyone. Apparently there was no need for
meals on board, only snacks. Although, because of the delay it would seem if the
majority of us on board were hungry they would make some food. I didn’t see any
way possible for me to eat, so I would just have to slave through smelling and
seeing everyone gobbling down a feast, how torturous! The ship seemed to be
operating just fine, everyone seemed to be bustling around, and still overly happy
we had defeated this stage in a timely and successful manner. Once in a while
moaning and madness was heard from below but what can you expect the guy was
being held captive. It should be a lesson not to intervene with other species; you
don’t know how badly they’ll fight back. It took around 8 times as much time as it
normally took to get to the port, but when we were able to wander and explore it
didn’t seem so long, especially comparing it to having to sit in a confined dark
space silently. The electricity wasn’t fully working, so the lights flickered quite a
bit, and once meals were finished being prepared, there was a message sent out
saying we should try to amuse ourselves without any use of technology. The
electricity was needed for the basics and we had no surplus for emergencies. The
food enjoyed by the Adelliens seemed to be a crossover between south Asian and
native Cyberious delicacies. They enjoyed their silkworm-nut with cherry tomato
stew, along with some pie and fiasco fanta. That was their equivelant to pop, which
consisted of bark, grass and almond fuzed together. Although it was described as
35
incomparable to any other drink, I decided to pass until it was forced on me in
Cyberious.
The sea seemed calm for the remainder of the trip; it was refreshing to just
hear the waves calmly move from side to side. Something about it seemed relaxing
to me, set me up in a good tone, instead of the constant bashing of the waves and
the boat upon the stormy sea. As we came closer to the portal, we were all asked to
move up to the top deck. I found it delightful to be immersed by the sea, and the salt
water although it was no normal easy thing for me to do. I had to be aware of any
bit of wind, for the wind would blow me away if it became too strong. “ Fellow
Adelliens it looks as though we are approaching at long last the portal back to our
land. Now Kristianna, if you are wondering we will change you back to your
standards of what a human should be moments before getting off” There we go an
question was answered, saves me from having to go ask. It seemed as though we
were quite a ways away. Then again, the end was in sight, which I probably haven’t
been gladder ever to see it coming. From the distance I could see many large
buildings, with entries, I assume for the boats to enter. It looked as though the
building was a large flower, with a center tall building with 8 or 9 buildings less tall
surrounding it. Honestly, before seeing it I imagined it would be so much smaller
and less predominant. I mean if you were an explorer, or on a cruise you could
defiantly notice this obvious building sticking out. Though I’m told it is located in
the middle of the ocean, it seemed only logical to me that it would be extremely
easy for humans to find and create a bunch of mass destruction. I have to admit, I’m
very curious about how they were able to build sustainable buildings in the weirdest
of places. Much history lessons are to come, and my sponge is at max absorbent
mode, ready to soak it all up! The Adelliens were now close to the edge of the boat
chatting, and having a grand old time. A few of the ocean lovers, who had greatly
felt attached to this earth plopped themselves up on a bench and watched the waves
role by, the whole world feeling as though it was being left behind us. Well of
course, literally it was. One final announcement was made, “Okay, now we will be
there in not even 10 minutes. To assist us in moving as quickly as possible please
got get your belongings. Our transportation has been ready to be launched for quite
some time so speed will become will the goal for us to achieve in the next little
while. Be safe and get those speedy feet all charged up and ready to go!”. With the
snap of a thumb everyone was getting ready to go to the main floors rooms, to grab
their things. I assumed I would have to follow them as well because as soon as I
was back in human form, I would need to collect my things as well. Though it was
also possible that they had made a point that they would be bringing my things with
them. When we arrived we entered one of the 12 rooms, which were basically
places to park your boat. It sort of reminded me of the airport idea. The middle was
where the transportation ma bob I would be going on was located, and I assumed all
the other buildings were all for any other boats. Everyone went of the boat waiting
on the sidelines. Though Heyjax and Sam stayed on for a few moments as a duty to
make sure I was good to go. What had then happened was I was hooked up to a
machine, you could slowly see the molecules in the air sticking together to form my
body. “Wow is that ever amazing!” I exclaimed. Sam replied in an excited tone
“Surrrre iiiis, I woooooulde dooo thhhat ifff I Coullld, Awesssomee! Liiikeee aa
36
puuzile.” A very good point that, he had made. It seemed even more fascinating
then a puzzle though, a million times more. You were witnessing the very particles
of your body coming back together. Just a moment later the two of them said “Got
to run will see you a minute.” I looked at them with a weird glance in my eye, that
said okay what you going to do this time? By then it was too late to have an answer.
The whole boat seemed to collapse in a million different pieces into the water.
Underneath was the unconscious or hopefully dead man that had been kept in the
bottom of the boat with me on top. This was a situation where I had to act quickly
or else I’d be in the freezing cold water and never return from being an ice cube. It
call came out like a surprise, nobody had told me this would happen. That was the
first event that led me to think; they’re not actually all that kind are they? From the
raft they were all standing all you could see little smiles on their faces and a few
chuckles. “That’s it, you guys planned this eh? Now I’ll have to look at you guys
with a close eye to draw any suspicion being hidden behind your eyes.” I acclaimed
loud enough so that all could hear. A few looked like they could respond but
nothing was blurted out and the moment quickly subsided. Though it defiantly
wasn’t something I could forget with the drenching wet clothes, I thought about it
and decided I would not let this get to me, after all it would surely dry off soon.
Little did I know these guys were actual little pros at practical jokes, they just loved
fouling others. Especially humans though, for we were the species who did not
know there ways hence, it was very easy for them to get by with one of their pranks
without us realizing until it had been too late. As well all walked in, following the
directions of our captain from aboard I looked around. I noticed the great big doors
with a large circular corridor. It seemed as though there was something in the
middle, perhaps what we would be going on any minute but there was no way of
proving that. The walls and ceiling were totally white, not the most exciting color
but I guess it was easiest to keep things simple, to not make the building look too
attractive. Another thing I noticed was this building was noticed to the human eye,
way bigger then a human was (so it could accommodate) us and it seemed to be
equipped with many various security things, from small little locker locks to
immense doors in which you needed to type in a code and go through a series of
other doors to get to whatever was being protected. Before we were to board, we
had to make our way to where all our baggage was to be loaded. After this we were
all to go into a room for security check and a quick broadcast from The Chief herald
of Cyberious. As we walked I was speaking with the announcer for a bit asking
some random questions that came to my mind. She seemed to be quite nice, very
exhausted from that trip that blew the wind out of her. One interesting point she
made in regards to my experience of being blasted into the water. “You know, how
else would a person your size expect to get out of that teeny ship? For you it’s the
size of a child’s plastic toy. Your weight is far more great then the total weight of
the ship. We could have told you that would happen, but we like giving little
surprises to our guests.” She smiled at me, like it wasn’t anything personal. She was
just glad I didn’t hate the Adelliens forever, because for some that had been enough
to turn them away. As well she noted to me that this was the one and only port,
unlike airports that were situated all over the world so it would be an enormous trek
and only the most motivated devils would come out to cause harm. Since it is the
37
only port, at times all the other boats would arrive at the same time and all the
Adelliens and a few humans would go on the same round. Though it did get to be a
rather tight squeeze and 500% louder then normal. I didn’t even want to imagine
what that would sound like, what nightmare that would be. We then ran around the
circle for a few more minutes when we were suddenly told to halt. “Lets go in this
room okay, Chief has been on standby so he will be waiting. We are the last team
they need before being ready to depart” Announcer told the group. The kind of
group system I was set in sort of reminded me of a tour group, looking around at a
museum, stopping every so often. We wouldn’t leave unless everyone was together,
and all on the same page. That for a fact made me at ease, there was seriously no
reason to being worried about getting lost or left behind somewhere. From the back
of the room, a few sets of drums were wheeled out and from then for about 15
minutes on end two of the Adelliens broke out in drum rhythms. Everyone seemed
to bob their heads along to the beat, I was really kind of exasperated that if we were
in such a big rush we shouldn’t be having little mini parties, but what can you do
eh? A little bit of solo, a little bit of tunes from the Beatles that got us all energized
I must say it was pretty exciting to know that they knew some popular human
culture. We must be very influential I thought to myself. At the end everyone
clapped wildly, many of the close friends jumped in sync. The two exclaimed
“Thank you, thank you! But of course we couldn’t have learned all this without the
slow pace of Heyjox and Sam giving me time. There are good sides to everything it
would seem.” That was pretty wild, going from not knowing the drums to learning
that much in less then 24 hours but yeah I guess the rest of the crew would have to
amuse them somehow. Everyone became slightly calmer; the lights began to dim as
the door automatically shut close. The drummers introduced the Chief. “Now it is
with our greatest pleasure to introduce you Kristianna Chief Weasely! He is ready
to great us with a warm welcome to the portal which should be enough to then send
us on our way safely up to our dear home that has waited and will always wait for
us.” A small spark lit up in my mind when I heard a great drum roll and here he is
Chief Weasely himself, this is a live presentation. “Hey there, to the awesome
species who I personally think are the best on the planet”. They all did a round of
high fives, after waving back to Mr. Weasely. Apparently whatever we did he could
see and vice versa. “As you have come to realize not everything goes totally as
planned in this life. You’ve just experienced it first hand for you. Ringing true to
your name you defeated that tootsie faced wing nut and now after many extra hours
of traveling you can come home! Many other Adelliens have been waiting at the
portal for hours now, just wanting to wait for you to see that you made it through.
See we all had trusted in you. For you Kristianna, having seen an extra side to us
Adelliens so soon can see that we don’t just shrug these serious things off, we plan
and initiate to avoid anything similar happening. Frankly, I’m not here to take away
your time, build your anxiousness up but this is a procedure I do after each boat has
arrived. But for you, after going through what you have I wanted to make sure to
add an extra congratulations to you all, as well as reminding you my support, our
support as a whole on Cyberious watches out for each other. Well, on the most part.
See you soon guys!” With that, he parted; a fuzzy screen effect and all took place
and the curtains closed. “Well” I said “Guess I’ll be the first one to move, lets get
38
out of here”. Sam laughed a bit “Agreeed, biiigggerrr ttttrrrrippe ttthheennz I
thouugghtee.” That was for sure, true said statement that is.
We went through the luggage room in quick timing, none of us really had
any great desire to hang out there nor take more time then necessary chatting with
the luggage guys. From now on it was pretty straightforward to the middle room
where we would board. I found it odd how I never knew what we were boarding
until we were about 100 meters from the entrance. What it was they called it a
“Silver planed Rumphin”. I had no idea what that stood for but it made me laughs to
tears and coincidently nobody knew why. Though other humans on board would
tend to agree with me. It was about the size of a rocket ship I would say, silver
planed on the outside and all the rooms on the inside were neon. There were three
levels one for the captain, one for the Adelliens and one for the humans on board.
Of course the room for us was about 10 times larger the dwelling place for the
Adelliens. Passing from the outside of the Rumphin into the inside I noticed the
bottom was where the fuel tanks were located. The whole shape of the contraption
resembled a giant boomerang. We were to arrive in Cyberious no more then two
hours later then when we boarded. I felt, as though I was an astronaut, it defiantly
was more or less the direction we were heading, although where we were going was
on a star. This star was disguised to the human eye as small but in reality its known
to be the vastest area of land ever seen together. As we entered all the captains met
up, all the announcers met up, all the general helpers met up and I was escorted to
the human lounge. I was told not to the room until landing and coming to a
complete stop in Cyberious. Though if you need to you toilets we have them for
your convenience on here, but get use to the idea of toilets not ever being the same.
All humans looked around at each, “Now that’s not going to be good. Where are we
supposed to let it out? We’re no dog like animals” A lady said. “Agreed” I
mentioned sort of flustered and becoming calm before I expected major impact. We
could hear all engines gearing up and the motors running, a little more heat came a
long with that. The room was aligned with about ten sets of two seats. In front of
the seats was a large television meant to entertain us but who really could settle for
television now, that is just plain boring! 18 other people were on board, all sitting so
I decided to sit on the front row seat (obviously nearest to the front). I was getting
settled in and buckled up. I felt all eyes on me, which was sort of weird had we not
just all gone through the same new changes? “Hi” Said a voice next to me. “Hey! ,
how is this for new adventure?” Politely I answered back, for I thought if I was
lucky enough to have some human species of mine come with me I may as well put
out the best image of me out there possible. “Totally outrageous, never even saw
this coming. I am so very glad my life is taking this kind of turn. Though we have
lots of time to talk, I want to hear about you, how was your trip?” I thought for a
moment, didn’t I just tell this women how it was. Although I was sure I had, there
was no room for hesitation to use repetition. “Well pretty good, I was amazed at the
way our bodies were rebuilt like a puzzle in front of us. Just thrilling” She paused
for a moment, then asked in a eager tone. “I found that pretty neat as well. Though
my question is how did you survive? How was that experience for you? Sorry, I’m
a stranger I shouldn’t be asking you these questions. We’re all curious, since we
have all heard about you, plus we have been waiting, well some of us for 12 hours.
39
Excuse me I forgot to introduce myself, I am Kerry!” Boy could I feel the curiosity,
everyone seemed to be piercing their ears to our conversation, so to hear as much
information about what went on. Just a characteristic of people, most are nothing
but a bad case of nosiness bunions. “Nice to meet you Kerry! I’m Kristianna. Sorry
about that, forgot about what happened but I remember now that none of you went
through that. God, that was pretty hectic. I really wanted off, but there was no way.
At one point I wished I was in my body form so I could combat the drunken bad
boy, there really was no way I could see the Adelliens succeeding. In the condition
us humans were in thought it would have been impossible to get hurt.” I explained.
Thought I may as well share some of the story, though I told a fairy quick
incomplete version. “Neat” was what was responded. She would have kept
blabbering but all forces were taking off, the sea seemed to move as the big weight
had lifted. Looking down the big surge of waves was concentrated where the area of
the Silver Planed Rumphin had taken off. As well the top of the middle part of the
buildings opened electronically letting us up! Exhilaration came like a wave of
fresh air. We surely are not too far from paradise anymore.
Man was that crazy. About ten times the force exerted on you plane take off
was circulating around us. “God, Kristianna is it just me or do you feel that we are
all going to combust in this air any moment. Why the hell are my ears popping non-
stop and my throat feels as though it has moved up to my head.” I couldn’t say
anything not for a few minutes the pain caused by take off was excruciating causing
my mind, hell my whole being to throb. Everyone seemed to sway from side to
side, I really liked the thought of seatbelts here. “Yeah” I said “ Never been on a
plane before, I stayed in a place called Hycallin’ my whole life. Boy, can I take
anyone’s word for it who says this is worse. It can’t be this bad the whole way can
it?” Kerry responded sarcastically “Nope don’t think they could do that to us,
although I’m sure they’ll make an announcement eventually. They tend to like that
kind of stuff!” I agreed with her, sitting there silently only coming to realize how
tired I actually was. The past 46 hours there was absolutely no time to think about
how tired I was or was not though, it was just a go go, go, and don’t stop. Like
being stuck on a mouse wheel. Just as fast as hell could take you away for being a
criminal did an announcement blare throughout the Silver Planed Rumphin “Some
interesting facts for you today! Welcome to the Universes unique method of travel.
Us Adelliens from Cyberious are very proud of it, being the fastest and largest air
traveling module out there. However you are feeling right now most likely will be
how you will feel for the whole trip, we would like to notify you on that. The speed
will remain the same, very intense and perhaps become extreme intensity for a short
while”. The announcement continued but somehow with chatting it drowned out of
my brain. In one ear near a mute sound level and out the other ear sure enough!
This is just crazy I thought in my head, our head are going to throb the whole way,
making it impossible to enjoy the journey rather just remain sitting with a hard
head. “This is crazy, our brains will be rattled by the time we actually land” I shared
to my human friends. A man behind me replied, “Them’s the breaks I guess,
everything you have to pay a price. Though it’s a good thing I’m not a weak heart
and absolutely love adventure or I may have had a heart attack minutes after take
off” I replied while laughing humbly to myself “Well, I think I did have a heart
40
attack, I might still be having one!” I turned back around facing the direction of the
t.v then the man poked me on the back. “Woah what, sir. Sorry you took me by
surprise there for a moment”. “No harm done” He said looking awfully proud of
himself and continued. “Don’t worry with men on board you women will always be
protected. We won’t let a thing happen to you now” He winked and then I invited
myself to turn around. Since the space was so small, and all the seats were so close
together I had imagined being able to meet each other as a group though most of us
kept periodically closing our eyes and keeping ourselves from flipping out. More
people to meet though would defiantly be a bonus, when I got to talk to them. There
would be an orientation, once arriving so if no chance arises to introduce myself to
everyone before then, I’ll just have to wait till then. For now I made a fairly friendly
acquaintance with Kerry, and they guy behind me, now he is just weird! Pondering,
it came across my mind that they should have reminded me to go to the washroom.
Of course if the Adelliens didn’t have the same set up as humans then that’s the
very reason for forgetting to remind me. It would have been preferable to go on
land well partial (although on water) then it would be to go to the washroom now. I
really wasn’t about to get up and go to the washroom although it was stated the only
exception to getting up. “Everyone on board we will be going at the highest intense
speed possible, please keep yourself together! We are very experienced and know
what we are doing so there is no room for worry. To speed up our arrival to
Cyberious, is the reason we are doing this. There in fact is a possible chance of
combustion if we are in the earth’s proximity for another hour. So the arrival time
should be in forty-five minutes. That is forty-five minutes, but I will be sure to
update you on time. Thanks!” Gee, doesn’t that make the travelers feel nice and
warm. “How do you feel about that eh?” The guy behind me asked, he didn’t poke
me this time. “Well not too dandy, I mean we either go slowly to Cyberious and run
the chance or maybe not run the chance but will actually combust. The other option
is going to make our heads throb, make our eyes pop out, maybe even make our
ears fall off!” I said. “That’s not good, wait that isn’t good at all! Rob doesn’t like
that one bit, where’s my mommy when I need her?” Rob exclaimed using a little
child’s expression. Why I was becoming so friendly with the guy I don’t know. It
was him, who started talking. The guy was about 6 feet tall, not super slim but not a
fat bellied guy. He looked like he couldn’t be any older then 24. He had short
chocolaty brown hair and just the cutest elf like face. His smile was that of a
jokester, so I had no doubt he was the kind of guy who fit well with Adelliens. In a
few ways he seemed to be like a human version of one. I laughed to myself and he
said “What you’re not laughing at me are you?” which was said in a joking manner.
In which I responded saying, “Well you gave your name away Rob. Mr. Rob,
you’re a crazy one. Who else, or if you want me to add a what I can but, seriously
who else would I have been laughing at?” Of course we both knew but I wanted to
get his reaction. “Sure fine, maybe I said that because I felt like it. But what if I guy
actually just wants his mom?” He retorted. “Well you know, you’re just weird that’s
what, because most guys don’t go saying stuff like that to a stranger.” Our
relationship seemed pretty chill which was great, someone I could stick to for the
first couple of days. Heavens, not like literally sticking to him but you know,
symbolism I could follow him around, and secretly take him up on his offer to
41
protect us ladies. But mostly it was me who needed protection. Someone suggested
we take the next twenty minutes to shut up and think to ourselves. There were a few
candid individuals who were against that idea and wanted to keep blabbering away
but thankfully there seemed to be respect for the majority here. I wouldn’t say I
needed quite that long but ten minutes would have been my happy medium. It was
like the Remembrance Day moment of silence in Canada although stretched out to
the point where a moment becoming twenty minutes was a bit of an exaggeration. It
was kind of hilarious watching some people trying to get in a yoga state, a few
trying to meditate. I mean noise was coming from everywhere, why try to make an
extreme failed attempt to be still and relaxed inside when there was literally no way
to block out the noise. Above us we could hear the little steps of the Adelliens and
many mixed voices. Little tap noises, moving around like mice heard from the attic
above in houses.
A message came through which made everyone’s eyes light up. “Attention
all passengers on board! We’ll be experiencing just a little bit of turbulence, please
do whatever is necessary to preserve your good health for we will be arriving in
about 10 minutes! Thank you.” It was great to hear that, everyone seemed to be
satisfied to hear the sure sign that Cyberious wasn’t actually that far off. A few
“Well finally, it’s about time” sort of phrases were stated, just before the turbulence
became unbearable, this also interrupted the attempts some individuals had at
meditation. We were thumbling through two major asteroids that seemed to be
surrounding us very carefully. Through a small window we could see outside,
though it was so small it was hard to see anything in large picture, but as soon as we
started to pass the asteroids lava lights shone through creating a lava effect coloring
the atmosphere and our little lodge. This went on for the majority of the time we
had left on board. Although as we left the turbulent area, and could start thinking
slightly again, I realized that little area filled with asteroids was probably to the
their advantage. You had to get through a rough patch that only their gizmo thing
that we are on could handle. It is like the driveway leading us to the universal
parking lot entrance for Cyberious. There was no room to breath; room to think and
room to move around, as we neared everyone became aware that the engine slowed
down. We all knew the signal and would take it gladly. “Hey there little one we’re
practically there I can feel it”. I heard coming from behind me although it wasn’t
obvious it was I being referred to, though it was. “Kristianna, did you hear what I
just said?” Rob asked, in a tone, which implied he was wondering if I had my head
back or not. I have to admit it, that trip wore me out, I became nauseau, right now at
the moment I can’t really feel my brain, along with a throbbing head and an
annoying guy, but on top of that I still need to go pee desperately! But that’s it, I’ll
use the human toilet on board before exiting, once we have “Officially landed”.
“Yeah’ I retorted to Rob. “Wait, since when were you given the authorization to
decide whether or not I’m what you call a little one. You know, I’m a perfectly
great height and even if you don’t think that I know so. Though it would be nice for
you to have that knowledge on file.” I said back to Rob. “Oh well suite yourself, but
to me, to what is known to be the average height you defiantly do not qualify for.”
Rob finished. Then Kerry butted in saying “Well if you don’t consider Kristianna a
perfect height then you may consider me the right height to your liking sir” Kerry

added on, though to say she liked the guy and well, yes she was a little taller then I.
From the window it was possible to see vast land showing up on the radar. “Oh my
God, this isn’t true. This isn’t happening” I barked over ecstatically, everyone
seemed to catch on to my excitement one by one as they took a look for themselves
and had placed their eyes on the land of Cyberious, with their very own eyes seen
the land for the first time! “Its beautiful, long worth the tireless trek for. The extras I
have gone through have only made this to be more of a journey to live for” I was
exclaiming actually quite loudly, going on a happy rant about all the great things
that were on the horizon. We were now hovering above the surface, below there
were Adelliens directing us to the landing point. The suspense became too much,
everyone just wanted to get up so most of us sort of slouched up a few inches off
our seat with our hands grasping the belt. I could say this was the moment us
humans on board has been waiting for all our lives but that wouldn’t be fully true. It
was predestined however, but the waiting part was mainly dragged out on the boat/
Silver Planed Rumphin. As I assumed most those of us who are meant to come to
Cyberious don’t find out about Cyberious early on in life. The people who do find
out about it on their own are not destined to live on the planet. We roared loudly as
if we were on a great big Tiger, roaring to life. All engines, fuel tanks and so on
seemed to flare on at the same time and a few seconds later complete silence came.
Out of reflex when a car stops, I unbuckled myself. “Uh-oh she’s a rebel girl
everyone” someone coughed behind me. “Shut up, Mister” I replied to Rob behind
me “I wouldn’t be laughing, as you magically aren’t belted up either for some
peculiar reason, you’re just the bad boy from hells angels aren’t you?” We both
giggled. The majority of us on board, well out of us humans, looking now seemed
to be old and prodigy. Some people just plainly seem to have a low tolerance level
for anyone plainly so I shouldn’t judge on their stories quite yet, but I can’t help but
imagine. The intercoms, zinged on. “Now some of you will be in disbelief over this
but we have in fact landed on the one and only planet all Adelliens are proud to call
their home, welcoming all humans here of course. We are located below the planet
Jupiter, though having never been explored before we are assumed to be just
another star in the Milky Way, nobody has ever found out about the vast land
existing here. Just a few pointers, there will be escorts coming to your level so don’t
try to find an exit on your own. As soon as we get off, we will be collecting our
bags and immediately going to Adellien Civil Square where of course you will get
to meet Chief Weasely of Cyberious. Here’s to you for surviving the roller coaster,
especially you Kristianna, and her team. A warm shout out welcome is given to you
and is ready to be received!” A snicker from behind me saying, “Yeah, Kristianna
your tough time was just like a roller coaster, you are to be honored now, you have
yourself a fan club!” I just rolled my eyes and sighed. Sam came down but
surprisingly he had no slurred weird sort of accent. Apparently, on Cyberious all
Adelliens sounded clear despite what they sounded like on earth. That we would
hear the high pitched voices, but that was just one of their defining characteristics
and we would automatically get accustomed to hearing the ringing voice. “Guys”
Sam said referring to us “We need to get moving here, all the Adelliens are off
bored and have gone to get their things. I’m here to collect you, and I’ll be your
leader for now. Please unbuckle and if any of you have to use the washroom, this is
43
your last chance to use a human version of one because we find them just so silly
and they aren’t compatible with the way our equivalent of you sewers work back on
Earth. With that said about 90% of us dashed to line up for the washrooms, those
brave souls who cared not to say goodbye to a toilet stayed back and chatted a bit
with Sam. While waiting, because we could not stay still any longer, we formed a
troop dance. Kerry came up with the slogan, don’t stop dancing because you need
to pee a lot, distract yourself or else you will pee too soon. I just about collapsed
once I was the next in line to go to the washroom. What a relief that was! I got to
sing my first song on the toilet on a foreign planet, also known as my immigration
home. “Let us go hopping up these stairs, back through where the Adellien room
was and out the front entrance you came in from at .” Sam said checking up with
us. He really was a sweet little Adellien, his voice really sounded like a newbie at it,
getting experience in, which made him sound all that cuter. I think we all had
confirmation backing us up today, like a great new discoverer, finding out the truth
that there actually is many hidden secrets out there, to seek for. To tell you the truth
the human eyes miss so many details, even having the best vision might not help
you in the end. Stumbling on this opportunity wasn’t because I recognized with my
eyes what would happen but I sensed within my heart.
Walking out from the main door, a sweet smell of fresh mud streamed
through the air, as well as some strange unknown discoveries filling the immediate
distance with song. “Rob” I nudged, as he was coincidently walking beside me “if
we’re located inside why do you think we can smell scents that are unique to the
outside world” He just shrugged and responded “How the hell would I know, this is
as much new to me as it is to all of us. Don’t be asking me questions about this
place; I have no idea just yet. Though I do know this is like a gift of paradise, and
with each day a new part of the gift will be discovered, will be unwrapped.” I liked
the guy’s thoughts on truthfully, a nice image to have an everlasting unknown
present of new discovery. Better then any gift I had thought was outstandingly
brilliant in the past.
After getting our luggage, we were told that our next stop before the
meeting with Chief Weasley we were going to our living area. I was insanely glad
to hear this; it didn’t make much sense to be pulling it around all night. In total we
were 8 hours late arriving around 6:30 in the evening. From here on end we were
like rambunctious animals just introduced to their drug of choice, like cats gone
wild on catnip. We really just wanted to explore this new life instead of dottling
every step of the way. Each step seemed to involve small mini steps inside the
complete process. “Lets get this party rolling” Sam proclaimed to all of his subjects
(us). A series of uproarious noises from the humans was pretty much all that could
be heard right about now. If we were about to confront a small little animal, who
was timid and didn’t know us I’m pretty sure we’d seem to be the intimidating big
kids on the block. We followed Sam out of the luggage claim through a few sets of
high-secured doors; after all I knew why they had them. They defiantly have their
reasons, well any civil place where creatures of knowledge inhabit, there needs to
be security. But for certain, this being the only entrance to Cyberious, (at least from
Earth) they needed to be on the ball game and having as many heavy weighted,
bulky doors was certainly a great preventative. Sam stood holding closed the last
44
two doors that would lead us out the wild, leading us straight to our natural
surroundings. Apparently, the Adelliens wanted our first experience on Cyberious
to be one of exploring the natural surroundings, to really get a feel for what
Cyberious’s natural terrain had originated as. They had preserved a natural
sanctuary, which kept the rest of the planet a float, though it had become slightly
more industrialized, which came with the age of Cyberious. It seems as though the
longer a planet is around, the more adventure into technology and science happens
which usually ends up tweaking the overall original feel of a place. “Behind these
doors is a little place I like to call home. I really know you’ll love it.” Sam peeped
out; everyone seemed to hear but couldn’t calm down enough to respond.
The doors swung open and all twenty of us eagerly ran out. The beauty of
the land was extraordinary, just because it was so different from the ordinary. Like
nothing I had every seen. It was mainly made out of rock. There were huge craters
in the land, which served as small bodies of water, in which the Adellien’s had to
drill in a specific spot of their planter to retrieve. The land was rough with many
tunnels, which lead to great lookouts, where you could watch the shootings star, a
spectacular up close show they could view anytime. There were many unknown
kinds of vegetation to me. These thoughts were going wildly through my head after
my first hand experience. Just a few moments later, Sam said “Okay guys, we really
should be at our living area right now, though if you are really fascinated with this
exploring your doing I will leave you be for a few more minutes.” That worked
very well a few of us let him know that’s what we wanted to do, while the others
didn’t even give a response, which of course is the ultimate answer to “Yes, don’t
pull us away” being absorbed fully into the scene. Naturally the mind gravitates to
new things it seems, and any new experiences, any new forms of life that are
introduced give our minds a dose of roaming. I wandered up to a cave with trickling
water above it, and on the top it seemed like there were small homes just big
enough for an Adellien or two. The scents were fused, a big mix of space smell,
fire, spring water, some unique vegetation and who knows what else. I looked back
after climbing on a pile of stone. Below me, a little more distance then a few
moments ago I decided to continue to the top, so I could see for myself where the
trickling had come from, and what the little cubby holes, (what I liked to call the
small little houses) looked like. A place I could let my exploring senses go wild,
though thinking it was time to head back I turned my self around. “Oh gosh, since
when did you get here” I exclaimed in surprise, as Rob had literally been out of my
sight since we had all gone our separate ways just moments ago. “Whats wrong
Kristianna, can’t you keep track of ten minutes?” He said “What was I suppose to
do, when exploring I’m not just going to check my watch every two seconds, that
takes time away from the already sparing time we were allotted. Though I was quite
sure Sam was responsible for getting us all to go on time anyways!” I responded,
looking a drift. From the way Sam sounded, he didn’t sound like he was going to
wait long, but what did sound like was that he would make good and sure that we
were all ready to go. “You know Kristianna, we went to the housing quarters so we
now know where we’re staying. Quite umm well, different, yeah that’s the word,
different from what you think of when you hear the word house. He called us
literally about an hour ago, pretty sure we were all following, though he had no idea
45
where you wandered off. After departing for Adellien square I expressed my
concern and he suggested that I assist him by coming her and finding you. Of
course you just had to go way up there. The adventurous type eh aren’t we?” I
looked at him all flustered while vigorously stepping my way down. He followed
close behind. “You know I said, I am ready now lets get going, we’re going to miss
the grand meeting with Mr. Weasley if we don’t hurry it up a notch” I sounded
worried, because I seriously didn’t want to miss a thing, my neediness wanted to
absorb everything in arms reach. “Just slow down and take your time, we don’t
have any time table. Its good that you’re so interested in taking in the atmosphere of
your home” Rob told me. Home, felt so weird to finally call it home. I expected it
wouldn’t sink for a long time, but home, this was it, my home, for me, now. He
continued speaking “ Your bag remember, its down there were you left it near the
crater puddle adjacent to the Silver planed..whatever its called center! We have to
take it to your room, the from there we can meet Chief Weasley. I am absolutely
certain, whatever we have missed, he would repeat. After all he wants to make us
feel at home with our destiny. If it helps at all he has to reiterate to me as well
because I’m missing what he is saying, so there’s two, which is more of a reason to
repeat. Though there was some sort of celebration planned in which they were
going to wait until we arrived.” I sighed, “Well I guess I won’t be running to my
room because I don’t even know the way, so there is no point trying to go faster
then the leader, when they have the capability of moving slowly!” I laughed,
implying that Rob was getting caught up in talk and not enough walk. Nudging him
to speed up, he said, “Ah, alright fine, I’ll move quicker. By the way guess who’s
room is next to my room?” Literally, how could I not guess? Though to make him
frustrated I dare not try to know. As we walked, we came into there seemed to be
more and more industry, building up to where all the life happens. The dorms where
the humans lived had their own location in Cyberious, just like the dorms for
university have a set place usually. The buildings were mostly made out of stone
and rock. Some of the unique to Cyberious techniques to build seemed to be with
mud, rock and sand, though many buildings were incorporated right among the
caves so there was no need to do too much. “Okay, so just up here and then we’ll
hang a right okay?” Rob said. His voice ringing in my ears, though I wasn’t aware
he repeated okay about five times when I came back to the world again responding
quickly “Yes, okay, okay, okay, you know I’m following”. He laughed at one,
because it wasn’t necessarily the case at all, or so he thought. I realized this guy and
me might have a bit of rivalry against each other, though since he seemed to be
pretty nice I didn’t mind it either. Rack it up higher it was all-good to me. They had
street signs here although no cars. They had little electric floating bikes, which
basically hovered over the ground but never touched. The theory behind this is that
they’re faster, less polluting and you won’t end up in any of the major potholes of
craters, which apparently were quite common. One passed by with a two Adelliens
in it, such sweet animals waving as they passed by. “Now aren’t they cute” I
expressed to Rob, in a don’t you wish you could just pinch their cheeks voice. “
Yep pretty cute, but I just want to take a ride on one of those vehicles, if you
thought you went fast on a motorcycle, then oh boy look out world here we come
bashing your thoughts!” Only a moment later I replied enthused “Hey, don’t you
46
mean look out Cyberious, we can no longer use the world anymore, I think it may
offend them or something” I pointed out, “Aw shucks, that’s right. Okay, lets turn
right here”. The road was called Crystal Lane’s Residences. Though having turned
down the road, which was now my road, I couldn’t find anything even closely
resembling a residence. I would literally die if I had to camp out every night, and
that was called a “resident home”. After looking around for a minute, appearing to
be the dumb one I turned to my right to see a guy in a grins staring at me, like he
was only waiting for me to turn to him, my answer man. “Okay so, where is my
lodging, I’ve looked around and all I can see is the barren ground and a bit of caves
up there, about ten feet up”. I said in a cool voice. That’s it, it clicked, and the
corridors through the cave would lead to the human residence. Nope, that can’t
really be it? I had to just keep thinking the strangest, possible outcome now because
every norm was now erased and I would have to live with their ways, unless I
would decide to be a total non-conformist first thing. That would probably receive a
few chagrins though. “Think outside the box, you’re in a new world here, though
heavens don’t go thinking they’re going to make us sleep outside. From what I
understood they’ll actually care about us here, which means they plan on taking
care of us, which does involve having our most basic need of shelter being met.” He
winked at me. Somehow, his voice released a whole wad of tension I had building
up inside of me. I automatically assumed the worst-case scenerio for shelter because
I really did not know what to expect. He was right, putting my mind at ease, they
had good intentions so I should just leave it up to Chief Weasely and his clan to
take care of us. The good thing was, I felt increasingly comfortable with Rob, over
this short span of time so I knew whom I would turn to, to discuss anything that
only humans would able to comfort, or know more about. “Well you guessed it
right, just keep walking for another 50 seconds and then we shall see the awesomely
structured cave which somehow has 25 rooms. Though I still need to find out what
they do for bathrooms here” I laughed at that thought, boy would it be nice to see
what they considered a toilet. I predicted it to be some sort of awkward ordeal we
would all have to put ourselves through to master the art of using a toilet! “That’s
pretty neat, never heard of a cave that complex on earth before. Each planet has
their main neat features”. The cave was surprisingly huge, with a front door added
on, manually, which reminded me of the stone age from the Flintstones. The door
was totally rock solid so it was a task to open it up, but Rob told me there were
some advantages to having a door like that. For example without it, on a breezy
night, asteroids would be blocked out, and any other space paraphernalia would
have little chance at getting into our quarters. It was sort of like natures care for us,
creating something so exquisite and providing the safety and security us humans
liked knowing they had. Walking inside there were rooms on both the right and the
left side but I followed Rob until he abruptly stopped and said “Here, its over here,
right beside mine”. I said “Hey you know what dude, you already told me that, but
thanks for the reminder” In which I was saying in a bland but very joking manner.
“These rooms are awesome!,” I exclaimed “boy would I love to tell my friends back
at home about where I’ve been set up. As a child I wanted to live in a Castle but just
screw that right now, everyone wants to live in a large, echoing cave and it has
floors and a back balcony and who knows what else!” I was in amazement rambling
47
on, with poor Rob listening to me. “Pretty neato, I have to agree Kristianna!”. I told
myself that I should probably pull myself away from my new home and go on some
more explorations to Adellien Civil Square, oh what fun!
“Lets hit the dust tracks old Robin hood feller” I yelled to Rob who was
doing weird stretch behind me which I wasn’t going to comment on. He sounded
taken a back like oh yeah right, I was suppose to be doing something now, carrying
on with life, that’s it. “We’ll go now, but you’re sure you can find your way back
just in case we get separated tonight?” He asked me, “Yeah, sure” I replied bluntly,
truthfully there would be no hope for me trying to navigate my own way around,
coordination just isn’t one of my gifts. “Maybe not actually, but I will be fine as
long as I have someone to tag along” I restated what I had said, with a few
corrections to the point I had made. Better to stick what you say the first time or
else you’ll think too hard. We started heading out, back through the halls leading to
the welcoming Flintstone door. I felt sort of weak, so it became a two-person job to
open it. We walked for about ten minutes along a pedestrian trail, which was filled
with craters, so every once in a while we had to walk down and then make our way
back up again. The terrain was pretty rough, though I appreciated it mostly being
left in its original state, so I wouldn’t have to imagine all the transformations the
path and its terrain would have gone through to look like it did today. I enjoyed the
walk, though it was pretty barren, I guess all the Adelliens were either at their
homes or in the Civil Square. Rob said “Hey you know why we’re the only ones
walking here?” Now why would I, I thought though knowing, he must have already
known I didn’t know. He continued, “Well, the Sam guy said this was mainly
created as a safe out of the way path for humans to use. We were told that the main
roads, are mostly utilized by the Adellien’s. For the time being since all paths
through Cyberious are connected we are suggested to learn them well. Though it is
true, we’ll never run into a crowd on these trails therefore we should never have a
reason to be late, stuck in traffic at least” I loved the trails, and the thought that
there would be more exploration to be done. But I also laughed at the fact that we
shouldn’t ever have a reason for being late other then being stuck in traffic. I guess
every world has some form of traffic, wouldn’t be complete. “Gee did I miss a lot
of tid bits of information. Boy am I regretting not being with the group. I bet I’ve
created a strange reputation for myself” I said. Rob quickly replied, “Nah you’re
cool. Though, the others defiantly wonder about you. There’s always someone who
has a lot of happening to them, or does a lot of weird stuff, we just have to learn
more about them and their ways. You’re pretty cool though”. A large smile took
over my face, as his lips formed a sweet little grin. Little did we both realize but we
had stopped, staring out in the distance was some beautiful lights that just captured
our attention, and I guess made us come to a full stop. “Geez, didn’t even feel my
legs stop moving there” I said to Rob, pulling him off his feet which seemed fairly
firmed into the group, like a spell had been cast on him which grew roots from his
feet deep into the ground. “Right, that’s right we’re suppose to be walking right
now” He laughed under his breath, “Never realized we weren’t walking anymore
either, darn tooting!” I laughed; I don’t know just sometimes that way someone
says something gets you going. We finally reached the square, and the full set of
stars up close were out, quite amazing seeing them up close. There were four
48
different entrances for the square, and each had a little gateway which read
“Welcome to Adellien Civil Square”. “Now this is were all the fun stuff happens!”
Said Rob, “All of the festivities and celebrations happen here long into the night”.
How nice I thought, everything seemed to take advantage of the outdoors here,
which was really nice I don’t think it would be possible to be cooped up here. Upon
entering the square Heyjax came over to greet me “Kristianna, you finally made it
you crazy one! What a way to worry everyone but especially the head Chief
Weasely” I looked at Heyjax, sort of guiltily since the act of being this late really
hadn’t been on purpose. He continued “ We’ll get you to have a chat, he gave his
welcome speech because it came to the point where we just couldn’t wait any
longer, though he missed a few key things, because of his reluctance to begin before
everyone arrived” Everyone meaning “me” and solely me of course. “Kristianna
has a good sense of adventure though” Rob pointed out to Heyjax, “I expect she’ll
know all the species growing here, and all about Cyberious in no time” Rob
finished. “Oh yes, I’m sure this will be the case, Rob. No doubt about it”. Heyjax
replied. I felt sort of humiliated, this place was far too complicated so I wasn’t sure
where he picked up, that I had a natural ability to identify totally new areas.
Because of course I really don’t, ever do but I guess he was just trying to emphasize
that it really was not horrible that I was late. Getting Heyjax to agree, only added to
his strategy I thought. “We waited to go through a round of introductions, so we’ll
do that soon. First I’ll introduce you to the Chief over there, sitting on the bench by
the grand stage over there, sound good?” Heyjax said, and we both agreed. The
square was light up with natural light coming from the stars and all the other fire
things in the atmosphere so there was no reason to worry about not being warm here
or not having enough light.
The square had been decorated to the extreme tonight. From the far end of
the Civil Square there was a stage decorated with various kinds of flowers unique to
Cyberious, I had no idea what in the hell they were, but hey they were cool
additions to the decorating the stage. Inclosing the square was a stoned medieval
looking wall, which was too tall but tall enough to show us where the square
boundaries where. There were about forty chairs with tables, which belonged as a
set together, that were near the stage. This is where many people were in
conversation; meeting each other getting too anxious to wait for the official meet
and greet games we were going to do eventually. Many of the Adellien society
came out for this to meet the new humans to the planet. What I did not understand
was if other humans in the past had come, how come we hadn’t heard anything
mentioned about them. I wondered where on earth could they be, but they were
certainly not here. On the far back end of the square many tables were placed with
food and drink galore. The scents of the table sprung through the air as we made our
way to the benches located in the corner near the food tables, where Chief Weasley
contentedly nibbled on some Wabka dessert. The description was honey-coated
nuts, with walucha fruit (a hybrid fruit which was described as a lychee and a
strawberry). It was a small little ball of deliciousness; in this case I may go for the
dessert before having dinner. “Gosh this smells good,” Rob said, “ I may just have
to go for dessert before eating all the rest” I was impressed you know how couples,
or friends think the same thing all the time? Well there you go I thought it up and he
49
said it out loud, one of the passing humans I wasn’t equainted with yet stopped by
and said “Hey Kristianna, hi Rob, for sure the dessert is outstanding you have to go
eat some soon if you haven’t I’m on my way to get some seconds. Hope to talk to
you more later” he said passing by really quickly, the only other man on Cyberious,
he looked to be in his 50’s which was way too old for me. Funny how everyone
seemed to be raving the desserts, I guess sweetness is somehow in the thin air out
here! Rob and I walked over to where Chief Weasley was sitting patiently; nobody
should interfere between a human and their need to observe a delightful feast
prepared in honor of our homecoming to Cyberious. “Well look who I see over
here” Chief pointed over to us, as we got closer and stopped to talk. “I never
thought I would personally meet you my dear folks. Actually, for a split second I
met you Rob a couple hours ago, but you Kristianna, I haven’t met you yet. Little
do you know, but you hold a very special part of our life here on Cyberious.” I
wondered what that could mean; perhaps I would help in construction, or something
like that. “Well I just get so distracted Mr., it really is just the way I am though. I
apologize and you really don’t have to repeat your celebrational welcoming speech
all over again!” Though I really hoped he would, something exciting about official
welcome speeches. “Aren’t you glad I went back to get her? I mean we could have
just left her there and like a dog a stray she would have ended up who knows where,
maybe in the dump yards!” Rob blurted out, I knew he really couldn’t help himself,
he seemed to find me hilarious but I did not really mind, each time he did that
though I made a little mental check note to myself to get him back a little more. I
laughed and said “I’m not that hopeless, Mr. Weasely.” I had to give myself at least
some credit for myself. He gave a chuckle and in his wise voice he said “Well I
guess there is wisdom in getting Adelliens to lead you around at least for the first
little while of you living here now isn’t there? For a person like you in particular
Kristianna, it is good to have tour guides. As well, of course I want to fill you in but
as its getting into the night right now, maybe a quick summery is all I will do for
you two, pass on a few of the basic tips.” A question came to my mind and ceasing
the moment, I blurted it out right away. “Hey Mr. Weasely, um, I mean Chief. What
ever happened to all those other humans living on the planet currently, where are
they? Why aren’t they here right now?” He looked as though he was thinking,
thinking about why in hell did I ask such a question, and what, how would he
respond. “Sorry” I said, as he seemed to be looking burdened by my question. He
replied saying, “No, you never know what the new arrivals will ask us. Though I’m
quite sure that’s a question I can’t answer for you. Just thinking about it, I really
don’t think under the circumstances I don’t think it would be appropriate for you to
know. At least not quite just yet.” Now I wonder what that had to mean, the way he
said that caught me out of line. What could be going on to make it not possible for
him to say? I knew often in the world un ethnical companies would try to hide some
of the things they were doing to their employees behind the scenes. Nah, nothing
like that was going on in this case I was sure. For all I knew, maybe they died of
natural causes, something very tragic in which Chief Weasely did not know how to
convey. Whatever the reason I wouldn’t push asking over an over again, I would
just be hopefully receiving an answer sometime. Rob poked me and said, “Hey you,
they play good music here, the Beatles!” This was so true, they had only just started
50
playing music and the excitement caused the Adelliens to create a large circle. The
outside was all the Adelliens, on the inner part was all the humans totally hyped up
and in full swing of things. “So true” I said. Weasley then added “ Well we try to be
influenced by what humans like, so you’ll most likely hear the greats played at
festivals. We like The Beatles, Lady Ga-ga, and The Styx oh and we totally dig the
singing chipmunks here. You’ll see traces of human inspiration near and far on this
planet, in which us Adelliens hope will make everyone feel more at ease”. Behind
our breath we laughed at his remark over Alvin and The Chipmunks, I mean them
being a great, there facts sure weren’t too accurate but hey at least they weren’t as
pathetic as my old neighbors. “So Mr. I think while everyone is having a good time,
it would be a good time to quickly go over you speech.” Rob expressed obviously
disappointed he had missed the speech. “You two, since you seem to be a pair of
eager beaver I guess I’ll go ahead. Let us move to the stage, make it more like a
repeat of the actual speech. I will go up on the stage; we can bring a few chairs up
too to make it feel more like a personal one on one conversation.” He sounded like
a sales person trying to pretty up the deal, it was funny because he seemed to be
awfully proud of his skills. “Sounds good, we’ll be a long in a moment” I said.
Skipping over to one of the tables, with the most exquisite chairs is where I was led
to next. “Rob, aren’t these just great. Its comfortable and something about the
texture, the beautifully done art, well basically everything is so wonderful about it”
I exclaimed excitedly, not sure why I was so overcome by the chairs. “Whats wrong
with you, do you realize you’re totally swooning over a chair? Lets just bring some
chairs over like he asked, without observing each chair, comparing them to others
like there is some great difference” was all Rob could say. So we walked over to the
stage each carefully carrying the chairs I had so carefully loved and selected all by
myself. Walking on the stage seemed pretty normal, though the glistening wood I
was envious of. They had state of the art beauty here, on earth everything seemed to
be tattered and worn out. Chief Weasley sat down on his big official looking chair,
which was raised from the middle of the stage upwards, technology at is finest on
the actually land of Cyberious so far. I sat into my chair decomposing, letting
myself since into the chair. “Oh God, Kristianna, letting yourself enjoy paradises
chairs, are we now?” Rob said in a pain staking voice. “Yep, for sure I am. Just
such a great set of chairs, my eyes landed upon, Chief”. I expressed in a hyper
active tone, I was just being silly now but there was nobody to stop me here. Chief
just said “The chairs are meant to enjoy, glad you like them. Now if you’re ready,
as in composed enough and not in a state of being on the verge of bursting out
laughing for no apparent reason I would be happy to start” he expressed in an oh so
endearing tone, his exasperation hadn’t shown itself yet too much I noticed which
was good. Being kicked off the planet literally and falling onto a near planet was
not a goal of mine, too many dangers to risk it. “Yep, go right ahead, endow me
with a picture of what daily life will look like in general sir. I need some of your
expectations!” I finished. He began speaking first about what a great example of
nobility I had displayed on the port boat, and how all creatures on Cyberious were
expected to us this nobility each day. We would be assessed for what kinds of tasks
we liked to do in the world, and we would help their planet grow each day. Though
their planet was deemed paradise we had to work for it, Paradise never meant never
51
working apparently. The work would come first, after completing that we would
earn certain privileges. Everything we needed they would provide, though rarely
would we ever get to call anyone back at Earth. I cried out when I heard that, what
would be the point calling every once in a while, everyone on earth would be
wondering where we had run off to. My immediate sense through those thoughts
was painful, it just broke my heart, not being able to call on the people I had grown
up around, and they deserved to know I was okay. Then it occurred to me once
more, this was a new world, nobody else would understand, maybe it would be best
to grin and bare it. “How would that even be possible though, I thought we would
be able to keep in contact, what about my cat Gustave, my friends in my family” I
asked sounding all too worried. How Rob looked at me, wanting to comfort me
with some weird expression I was all but sure, he connected with me so well. “Like
before said to you, anything that needs to be sorted out will, these things have a way
of working out. You will always be in contact with those you love most, though you
may not always know it, please be aware.” Chief Weasley said. That was just a trick
question, one thing for certain is that these Adellien creatures could pretty well
screw with your mind; if they wanted complete control over someone I’m sure
they’d find a way. Though it was all but possible that they couldn’t find a
dependable way to have a fully streaming strong phone line connection 24/7.
“Listen you two, on a daily bases for the first two weeks here we’ll let you manage
your own time. Though it is expected that you will contribute somehow. The other
humans are here for your support, so It would be my suggestion to become friends
with them, since they’re all you go. I see you two, Rob and Kristianna have become
acquainted quite well. You’re the two youngsters I believe. Yes, all the others are
quite a bit older”. That rung in my ears like a bad toothache, I sure hoped it
wouldn’t be like having a million parents looking over us to make sure we weren’t
being little naughty kids. I was starting to find, the simple lesson that nothing was
perfect. Though there clearly are claims out there, I was convinced to be that
strongly build up wall. If it was true, this was paradise, and then it would know how
to break down the barriers between my thoughts and reality. “Are the lights
normally this bright? Rob asked in an enlightened tone. Though really he was a
science geek. Back home in Philadelphia, he was a professor in Chemistry. All hell
came down when the head of the University decided to go on a spending rampage
for the arts district, though he went a little out of his mind, Rob Recounted. He
spend nearly all the money, which means all the money which had been saved for
many different projects, which had been donated, part of the school payments etc…
He fell into a depression for 6 months, what would he do now, his life was ending?
All the money, and the energy spent on getting the degree and then pursuing his
dream at a highly rated University and then one day when coming into work you’re
told you were laid off. Not just him but everyone in the sector, so now Philadelphia
University was strictly an Arts school, though after the approach the head master
had taken most people avoided that school. I could really feel for him, that wasn’t
just a normal everyday event someone went through. All I could do was sit and
listen quietly as Chief counseled him. Chief Weasley said “Well what a story that
was!” I responded saying “No kidding, I’m so sorry you had to go through that” in a
deathly condolence tone, was how I said it, which wasn’t quite the right tone. Chief
52
contined “ Well you have to understand Rob, the few lucky humans who end up on
Cyberious must had to go through something terrible like that. Only the strong
deserve this planet, but also they add a little character here. People like you, have a
strong moral sense, which only enforces the good behavior expected from the
Adelliens. We have our strategies here, nothing is done without a clear cut reason!”
He paused for a moment’s breath, because someone who speaks as fast as he does
usually runs out of breath quite frequently. “We reach the greatest heights here, I
believe in no time this little kingdom of ours will take over the universe” He
retorted. “You’re just a little proud eh?” I said, though for a split second I wasn’t
sure If I should have or not, he looked at me with a stanching cold glare, which
doesn’t make a person feel too warm and fuzzy on the inside. “Go on you two, I
believe I’ve kept you back long enough, now go enjoy yourself, go eat some food!”
He said as if it were an order. Rob and I seemed to both agree maybe it was time to
wrap things up. Though a pressing question came to my memory, I just had to bring
it up. “Now Sir, that sounds delightful though before preceding can I ask you one
question?” Asking in such a polite tone, I was sure he couldn’t tell me to ask again
later. “Sure, go on but I have to go unexpectedly in about 20 minutes”. Well, that’s
weird I guess he is aloud to though. “I have this weird sensation, right now, Its
something that all people get, even Adelliens too” I stopped for a second trying to
stop myself from laughing, Rob already knew what I was asking about, from that I
knew far too well that I sucked at trying to disguise what I was bringing up. “Carry
on,” Chief Weasley said trying to reel more information out of me. It would of
helped so much better, if Rob was non existent or better yet stuck behind a giant
leach and unable to make a sound until I was finished with asking this particular
question. Though he seemed to claim it was the way I was making it sound, so
much more then it actually was. “Well, sorry about that. I’ll continue on. To make it
a bit clearer, well you know that tingling, cold sensation you get maybe after
drinking a lot of water, or whatever you Adelliens drink the most. What do you
have to do after that?” I said bluntly “Where do you do it? Where do us humans go,
and what do we use?” I splurged, I said it too clearly, and I was doing so well at
making it sound like an exotic ritual. “Good heavens child. As if you really had to
worry about that. Though coming to think about it, I guess it is a pretty big deal to
you humans to know where to go when nature calls for its deposit. We have toilets
on Cyberious, though they’re nothing like on earth. You see we just go behind a
giant rock. There is a philosophy that we help the ground by doing so, to be
enriched with added minerals and proteins, though we realize most humans won’t
do as we do. I understand how it is socially un appropriate so this is why our
invention of the toilet finalized and put into use a couple years back. The design is
basic though I think it works fine, so it is acceptable. Though remember, there is
only on toilet in all of Cyberious which is on the top floor of your residence. I won’t
describe whats involved in using it, because well its quite straightforward and you
can discover for yourselves whats involved. I don’t want to tell you too many of my
secrets!” He said, “Now, I must get ready to leave” We bid him a thank you very
much, he gave the generic reply well it was my pleasure; it was nice that we were
so interested in hearing him talk. As we stepped of the stage Rob was laughing
tremendously. “Whats your problem, a human has to know these things” I
53
expressed. He replied saying “No its just the whole ordeal that was funny. The way
you explained with fancy words, the way he responded, giving you the response
that you might not really have wanted to hear. Its luxury to use a toilet now,
Kristianna, and like he said they’re just a little different from those we’re used to”.
We placed the chairs back down and went for a stroll across to the table. The crowd
had died down a little, as I imagined some of the older folks would eventually get
tired of all the classic music and dancing and go home to retire for the night.
There was one Adellien by the food table in a fine suite and wearing a funny
tie. “Hi little guy, I uttered” He turned around to see me and Rob standing there, I
had a gleeful smile on. He looked a little startled and spoke as if he wasn’t suppose
to, though he did discreetly “Hi there folks, nice to meet you. I’m not supposed to
be talking to anybody, like as a general rule. I need to continue cleaning this table
up” He said. Now why would this job be left up to him, I was pretty sure it was
something forced onto him. “Okay then little fella, please do take a break for a
moment though, let the beautiful lights and the silent breeze enrapture yourself, I
find this atmosphere to be so rejuvenating. Let yourself enjoy it a little while me
and this guy enjoy some food, for we haven’t had time to enjoy it yet.” Conveying
over. “By the way whats your name, little guy?” I didn’t know why but naturally
my mind wanted to refer to him as little guy. “Oh okay, but be quick I’m on a very
tight schedule which I’m expected to meet spot on. After cleaning up I have to
go..to.. Yeah. I have to go somewhere after. Just hurry up, my name is Charmin,
folks, pleased to meet you”. It sounded to him almost, weird that someone was
actually letting have a break. Though I was beginning to wonder, if there was some
extreme morally wrong conditions for some of the Adelliens. If there was some
prejedice lurking around. Maybe it was so important for them to seem so perfect, as
an image so us humans would not even think about what might go on in “the
middle” so to speak. This may have been a mistake for us to run into little Charmin;
it, would probably be frowned upon by Chief Weasley or the ultimate big cheese.
“You can go first Kristianna, I’m behind you” Rob said. I realized I was behind him
though he was a nice guy doing the ladies always going first act of courteously.
“Why thank, ya Rob. You are most defiantly kind, I can’t wait to dig in!” The food
looked so colorful, so delicious I was really looking forward to this diet. In front of
each of the dishes was a small tag, which read what kind of food it, was, and gave a
list of ingredients. I had no idea what most of it was, though it was certain this was
no fast food. From looking at the table, there was an impression that there was no
meat here. Though I was probably right since there were actually no other species,
living on Cyberious, so in order to get meat they would have to transport it
somehow from earth. Unless they had the guiltiness of being cannibals but let’s not
think about that. After getting the feat, I walked over to the table, waiting anxiously
for Rob to come over, even though he was about 10 feet away. As soon as Rob
walked away Charmin rushed back to the tables, and continued to clean. Something
wrong was defiantly going on, I convinced myself, I mean that Adellien looks pre
mature, he can’t be old enough to be a slave yet! Not that there is a right age to be
thrown into slavery. Rob could tell exactly what I was thinking of, he said “Please,
Kristianna lets just enjoy our feast and stop worrying for the moment. Atleast we
know about him, so we can keep our eye on him and make sure he doesn’t ever get
54
treated with more injustice.” He said. “Oh okay” I said softly in response, in a
mellow voice. The square was pretty much empty now, so much for the games I
thought, getting acquainted this evening. Though my mind was speeding ahead I
knew that we would know each other too well in about a weeks time. We ate our
meal of fresh herbs, dressings and spices, over a brightly lit earth. Our first, night
together on a different planet, quite the thing in itself, not many people get to say
that they’ve left earth. That meaning, they either die before getting to the planet of
their goal, or they just happened to make it to the moon by chance. Though this
whole experience was defiantly by, fate or chance or something of that nature.”
This sure is exceptionally different” I said to Rob referring to the whole experience,
not just the food but the broader picture of hey, we’re actually off earth right now. I
found myself kind of silly to think of where I would be right now I weren’t here,
but I couldn’t think of one thing. All I cared about was that I had met Rob, anything
wrong that went on was fixed by looking over to him. How can miss a wide-open
grin coming from a jolly face? “Should we head out now?” He asked in a sleepy
voice after he finished off his last bite. “Well I don’t know” I said, “Neither of us
had enough to eat, I think we should stay. Besides you don’t sound one bit tired!”
The last bit, yes I said just to torment him, because it was really beyond obvious
that he was tired, actually I would say his tiredness at the point where he could fall
asleep without a care and not wake up until absolutely necessary. Come to think of
it I feel pretty battered out to. Before I could open his mouth he slowly let out half a
sentence “Kristianna, why do you torture me so?” I retorted. “Now Rob, men are
suppose to be the tough ones who can stay awake to protect the women around.
You can’t fall asleep on be if I’m still awake. Let me sleep first then you can. No
man, I’m just joking of course we can go now. I feel like a senseless newt, please
lets just go now”. “Great” He expressed “So you do see it my way”. I looked at
myself proudly, “Yep, I’m not totally neglectful of others feelings. Though I admit
it, if I really wasn’t tired right now I wouldn’t be going back. I missed all the festive
dancing, and the festivals here actually seem like they have something to them
compared to all the festivals back home. I mean in Hycallin, Rob, Rob” I said, but
his eyes seemed to closed shut. Great, I hope he’s not one of those sound sleepers
that are totally oblivious to any nudges from the “Outside of dreamland” world.
Somehow that evening was all a blur. Well maybe not all of it, but after the
though of not wanting to nudge Rob, to keep him awake. We must have magically
teleported to our residence or something, because how else would we have ended
back to the Flintstone Plaza (the name I’ve decided for our dwelling place. I could
not stand the insanely boring name in which the Adelliens referred to it as). Though
in the middle of the night I crept up, the light from Pluto lit my way, upstairs to the
washroom. Since my room was located at the second last from the hall I took a peak
in at Rob, who was sound asleep with a bit of drool coming out of his mouth which
in my mind conveyed how tired really truthfully was. I only could imagine what a
hoarse voice I had, the evening before. My voice gets pretty wacky in any situation,
any circumstance really. I own many voices, though unfortunately I couldn’t choose
which ones I used, the switch just sort of happened. If I could I would delete some
of my less charming voices. The stairs in which led me to the floor above were
quite steep, but led me where I wanted to go. They matched the rocky feel of the
55
place of course. On the top of the stairs going to your right you came to a integrated
sliding door which led you outdoors to a balcony. I observed a few people standing
out there, calm serenely observing the view. They must have shared the same sense
of wonder, which I beheld. I really couldn’t be bothered sleeping, not tonight. Since
I felt the urge to get up, I got up. Though Rob for instance, I had the feeling he
wouldn’t trade his most precious sleep for anything. Poor Rob, I thought, his job on
earth probably had him sleep deprived and in the end he could have slept in and get
fired early on in the game. Hell, who needs people who know how to miss spend
money so easily. Just goes to show, money really shouldn’t go into some peoples
hands. They should always go into mine, I thought, jokingly. Another wonderment
befell on me, what do they use as money here in Cyberious? Questions, questions,
stop asking questions all day long! My conscience backfired against me,
complaining about me and my constant need to ask questions lately, well anytime
actually. For, there is always a constant between myself. The root of all my
decisions comes only from many different scattered places. Ah, at last I come to the
only washroom beholding a toilet in Cyberious. I was standing right in front of it
for a couple minutes, collecting myself for the grand sighting. As I slowly opened
the door, peering my way In It occurred to me that I should be bowing down. I want
to show the Adelliens I like them having toilets here, and maybe it will help them
by knowing we appreciate them. Though if they really knew we appreciated them, I
thought they could spread the toilets far and wide across their great nation. It would
become the great toilet movement!
A scream was heard from the washroom after sighting what was called a
toilet. There was no way I would worship this hideous chunk of rock with a hole
drilled through the middle (at least that’s what it looked like). If I were to ask what
it was made out of, they would come up with some way of glorifying it up, claiming
no its not just that. Though literally it was! The folks from the balcony came
dashing over to see what was wrong. “Hey, Kristianna, Good heavens is everything
alright? We were just enjoying the scenery and all the little Adellien noises coming
from out there, when we heard a scream coming from here.” It seemed everyone
knew my name, though it was probably in large part due to I being the most talked
about soul on board, coming to Cyberious. Sounding embarrassed I replied to the
middle aged man, with a small stout lady next to him. “Good golly, of course I’m
fine, haven’t got one scratch or anything. Nothing attacked me you can be sure of
that, just over there, look!” I said in a demanding voice. “Heavens, what is this
place” The lady responded in absolute fright. “Well I had this chat about where we
were to go to the washroom. Its been pretty much on the back of my mind since
hearing well actually seeing, that Adelliens use the big wide world for their
dumping grounds. Apparently it promotes healthy ground. Anyways, this is folks,
our one and only “toilet”.” We all stared for a moment, “Well my name is Chris,
this is Stella. Just thought I should introduce ourselves to you, since we never really
officially met.” We shoke hands, something I wasn’t all that used to doing, but I
guess older people like doing things more official that way. More like closing the
deal, that I have in fact met you. “Nice to meet you too, now what to do about this
scary looking thing. Desperation calls, I’ll just have to learn the new art of the
Human form of Cyberious toilet.” I finished. We all had a good laugh then Stella
56
said “At least there is no chance of falling into the toilet bowl anymore! I always
though of that as just a tad hazardous back down at Earth. We’ll all have our chance
to figure out the ways of the Cyberious toilet, so I bid you best of luck my friend. I
do feel for you, I mean all the fright triggered when coming across the thing.” I
walked closer to the toilet, as they walked through the door in the other direction,
back out to the balcony it looked like. “Hopefully we haven’t disturbed everyone
downstairs” Chris pointed out while hopping along outside. Seeing those two
together, seeming to be perfect pairs, made me think. Though I’m not even
suggesting, that kind of relationship between Rob and I being forced, but there was
something I had never felt, a real different burst of happiness filled me up. Maybe,
this whole trek to Cyberious is a perfect ground for matching people up together.
Two peas in a pod was quite the nice thing, instead of finding one measly skimp of
a pea forming in that pod.
The toilet was basically a platform with a very small entrance to the bowl.
So you had to pretty well aim. It’s like a game of targets all over again, though I
don’t know how anyone in their right mind could think of this as a toilet. I relieved
myself using the evil monstrosity. In fact, I refuse to call it a toilet; forever it will be
called evil hyper-boreal excuse of a frogman invention. It would forever miff me,
why they couldn’t or wouldn’t just put a normal toilet, was it so hard? At least the
whole process wasn’t so long, it just involved a little more thought, though it wasn’t
overly awkward which I am a million times thankful for. As I walked back
downstairs feeling rather hyper active, I had a strange thought to maybe become a
rebel for a night, a major one and cause some mischief. Though being new here one
didn’t know the most mischievous thing that could be done quite yet, but I’m pretty
well up for finding it. With my blank mind and a lot of extra oomph in me I set out,
not even remembering Stella, Chris and probably some other folks were out on
guard, and by now everyone knew I was a born explorer. Once hauling my way
through the front door, I began to lack energy again, it must have taken all my
surplus energy away, but I told myself If I stuck to just this road I would be able to
find my way back, so that was the plan I was planning on following. The night was
fresh, not breezy, and not cold but just the perfect temperature. Walking along I
noticed there wasn’t a one tree in sight, and remembering from my arrival I hadn’t
seen any green vegetation, at least large dominating green species of vegetation.
The space was filled with great big spaces of volcanic rock, mica rock, and pretty
much all types of mineral could be found on this planet I swear! Little bits of mica
shone below me as I made my way through the street. They had plenty of caves
here as well, though I found it quite interesting many seemed to be made by either
immigrated humans to Cyberious or by the handwork of all the Adelliens or perhaps
some joint work between the Adelliens and their inventive machines they had. I had
to give them the credit, for not copying too much from Earth; they still had their
own inventions and tools unique to their society and their needs. Some of the
handmade caves looked like they were literally carved, that the cave had just been a
major big rock. Instead of so many rocks being in the way, they had learned to
incorporate them into their planet instead of going on a mega venture of mass
destruction. They defiantly had a good sense here, of how to save and conserve and
make the best out of what they had. Though I still wasn’t too sure about how they
57
treated many of the Adelliens. If there were more Adelliens I saw being treated like
Charmain I would intervene and give them a big fist and tell them what the humans
think, that we were passed such acts on Earth (well for the most part) I liked to
think.
There was a flash of light, a shriek and a cold shiver down my spine. Maybe
I should have waited for daybreak to wander off on my own, even If I had been
smart to stay on one road, I had no idea what went on at night, for all I knew I could
be arrested for leaving my quarters at such an hour and be thrown forever into the
black hole, or some other very serious consequence. From the distance a very tall
grey cave mounting oh so very high, had all its lights shifted on and then back to
one rooms light on. For a moment I was going to act on fear and run back, but since
I was so close anyways, without a moment to decide I drew myself ever nearer. It
seemed to be some sort of chamber, for testing electronics or that of the like.
Approaching the building, there was a parking lot with about ten of those crazy
auto’s they drive here. Why would they be in full operation at this time of the
morning? Everyone should be snoozing away; there should be a law against this!
Entering the door, it was silent for a moment but seconds later there was a huge
commotion. I was forced to the side of the hall, as what looked like Chief Weasley
or someone with great power, in front with a procession of about six Adelliens
who’s sizes ranged from teeny to pretty obese. I expected the some of them to be
pretty young, and then a few of them must have been around for a while. They
seemed to be chasing the big cheese, trying to reason with him over something. The
door was left wide open and I could hear something being shouted out “No, you
leave me alone and do your job right next time, or or..” I couldn’t hear the or but
man did I wonder when I only got to hear little bits and pieces of a story. The most
important part somehow always gets left out. Instead of following everyone outside
I decided maybe just to stay inside and see if I could find myself nearing the one
room with lights on. Maybe, I was just darn lucky since nobody really seemed to
notice me at all, they were all too distracted. There were rooms one after another,
on both sides of the hall, though the doors were all locked shut. Some of the doors
had labels like “Metal Detecting Lab” and “Electrical Unit” though I came across
nearly half of the rooms that said “Top Secret Multi Purpose Experimental”. I took
that, as basically don’t you wonder whats in here because you’ll never be aloud to
find out, you can’t come in here, go away, and shew yourself now! At the end of the
hall there were major signs about the size of two stories which read in big bold
black letters “Go Up a level, then find your own way to get up, its up to you to find
the magic trick. Be warned, once you’re up there you might not ever find your way
back down”. Interesting, a little skeptical, there had to be something in this tower
above level one that was really not suppose to be known, which was probably being
hidden from the baby Adelliens and us humans, hell maybe the general public too. I
slumped myself against the sidewall nearly falling asleep when a loud “kerplunk”
awoke me. “Oh Hi, Kristianna, I suggest you move out of her right now, this really
isn’t a place for you to be, well not unless you have to be here.” A voice said. I
thought for a moment before opening my eyes, I know that voice, I know that voice,
I know that voice, now who is it? Right, got to open my eyes. “Ohhh! Charmain,
how are you? How did you find your way back down here? Show me the tricks,
58
then I can easily make my way up and down in the future and all my human friends
will think I’m some kind of genius for being able to get passed the first floor!” I
clambered loudly. “Shush, don’t talk to loud you get lots of attention that you don’t
really want. I’m not telling you how I get around, its none of your business, plus
you have absolutely no reason to wander this building. You should be asleep now,
though it might be kind of hard getting yourself back to the residence without Mr.
Kingba seeing you pass by. Though his great big outbursts of his usually send him
away quite fast, he always seems to linger from some hidden area. Wait Miss,
forget I even mentioned a fellow named Kingba.” I just stayed there slouching with
my eyes flickering, processing all the information be spat at me. Chamain sure had
a lot of venting to do, though I just encouraged it. Nothing like knowing as much
insiders information as possible, that was my curiosity streak taking the best of me
again, pulling me along. “So what should I do, can I have a ride back on one of
those floating motorcycle things?” I asked in just as a begging child would ask for a
new kind of candy they saw on the shelves. “You don’t want to be making so much
noise at night, well on this road in particular. They keep a close eye on traffic here,
nobody really knows why, but what can we do but follow whats been said. I’m not
going to risk it and I expect nobody else here will be leaving on those fangled
floating motorcycles (as you call them). My only suggestion for you is to keep quiet
here, and when you don’t see Kingba, the tall plump ugly looking Adellien then
dart for at least twenty five seconds then walk back to your quarters. Poor dear, you
will barely have any sleep and sunrise is only in two hours.” I heard the words
spoken from Charmain echoing through my ear, I really needed a few hours to
sleep. Here in Cyberious the light comes in quite early and it shines pretty much all
day. I wondered about how we would live with much less water here, which
therefore created a higher demand. Since we were located closer to the sun it all
made sense, why it came up earlier, brighter, harder then went down sooner, since
the closer you are the sooner you sense the changes going on with the surrounding
planets, its just that logical. I was pretty sure I would start to get tired on the
constant sunshine eventually, though finally I was in place where vitamin B was
never scarce! If I ever missed the rain, I would surely die I thought to myself. As I
slipped to the ground in exhaustion Charmain belted over and said, “Miss, you’re in
a state of extreme fatigue, let me go to the entrance and I’ll let you know when it’s
safe for you to dart back. Though, being tired I doubt you’ll keep up with running
for too long for your convenience and safety I’ll hope that the guys are long out of
the proximity once I send you on your way” Wow I thought, Charmain has it all
figured out. I was about to be polite in saying the normal, no you don’t have too but
I let out an “Ookaay, thanks” too soon. Once again, Charmain had spoken about
Kingba, by mistake though; this time her voice was in a major “he’s the enemy”
tone, which I think she was trying to hide before. I sat there like a lump on a log,
when Charmain signaled me to come. I walked over with a slumped back, a tired
looking face and eyes, which were about to give out on me. He whispered, “They
really aren’t too far away, but you really need to get back. I’m quite sure if anyone
were to see you, they would let this time fly since you could give the excuse that
you did not no, not to wander a night. Actually that is quite a valid reason! So slip
out, it’s a nice pre dawn breaking on us.” Charmain finished whispering, and sent
59
me on my way. I stumbled my way back home, the whole way I felt as though
someone was watching me. Probably was just faithful old friend Charmain, doing
what he said he would do. For some reason it felt like I was in a drunken state,
trying to forge ahead at a higher pace then normal seemed to take a multitude of
effort. My quick stance of getting back made me feels like I was the target, a deer
being chased by the hunter. Luckily, Charmain didn’t tell me any horror stories of
what had happened to other while walking this road in the past. If I had heard any, I
would probably be sleeping on the floor back there, getting an Adellien to act as
security for me. Walking to the great big stone doors of my residence gave me
satisfaction; I made it here alive (like it was some sort of huge accomplishment)
sweeping the door open as swiftly as possible, though still no easy task. I had to be
extra cautious in closing it, to make sure it didn’t slam too hard, for this door echos
like crazy, creating a noise resembling that of a huge dungeon door. Then after I
entered, I headed to my quarters thumbling along, to lay myself down for a nice
satisfying rest. A well-deserved treat I finally was ready for. Enough exploration I
guess. There was nothing to worry about now, for I was too tired to worry or care
about anything, all my thoughts were automatically directed towards sleep.
Humans most certainly do love their sleep, and get a certain amount of it or they
become the walking zombies society, in my case of Cyberious. Bring in the new
species, I want to see what its like!
My dreams were a vivid clash between what my Earthly life would be like
now If I had stayed and what I was needed here for. At this specific time I wish I
didn’t have any dreams, because somehow you have sounder sleep without all these
crazy action packed dreams going on. Though learning about what would’ve
happened to me on earth if I had stayed just a few months longer was horrifying, so
I was glad I decided to make the switch. What I was needed for here though was for
some kind of investigation, so I was doing good beginning my sneaky wanderings
already. The information out of my dreams about what I was going to begin doing
here was fairly brief, and didn’t get into any detail. I could see myself, running
around dark places, at random times watching the bad from the corner of my eye.
Darting around, with suspicion, examining things very closely and not letting any
miss treatment going on in front of my face. Then I slipped away from my dreams,
left in a pool of empty dark waters, in which I was content to float around in, for the
time I was allotted.
“Its time to get up, what are you doing still sleeping. You have to be crazy! I
thought you would be the first up today! Your eagerness was traded in for sleep,
whats going on here?” Rob said, shaking me till I became a tad bit conscious of
what was going on, the words he said never registered to me though. “What are you
talking about?” I rolled around turning the opposite direction from Rob, who was to
me at this point a standing figure who was out to ruin my life. The only enemy
standing in my way, because I clearly heard that today was a relaxing day to do as
we pleased at our own leisure. “I’m not leaving till you get up, you’re missing too
much adventure right now, by choosing sleep. Come on who needs it anyways?
What if we miss breakfast?” Rob concluded, sounding quite worried about his
stomachs well being as well as mine. Okay, he was good what a cruel way to make
me wake up, though there was no possible way I could just ignore the word food.
60
But worse there was absolutely no way in any world that I could ignore a sweet guy
knowing my love for food wanting me up to enjoy food which better be waiting for
me. “But why, why do you know I like food so much why? Why do you have to be
such a mean guy, knowing what magic word sparks an interesting in the mind of
Kristianna?” I asked tiredly, with a few yawns kicking out of my throat. “I’m just a
mean guy,” Rob laughed out, with much pleasure. “You know, I think I literally got
about one and a half hours of sleep last night. Tomorrow I’ll pull the same prank
you pulled on me today Mr.!” I said while stretching my way up, well attempting
to. If I was actually being pulled out of bed this way, the ladies going to take her
time and not be sorry for it! I have to admit it though; the beds don’t do too much
for me. It was like sleeping on an island, a neat concept until you feel what its like.
A weird kind of vegetation surrounded my mattress which was a top a fairly
smoothed out as flat as they come rock. It wasn’t a luxurious huge mattress with
extra springs and cushion but hence complaining, the bed would suffice, no rock
hard ground to try and rest my body on, I would make it do, for in large part I don’t
really think I had a choice. “You naughty girl, not getting your rest, I can only
imagine what you were up to. I really don’t want to know actually, besides what
goes on in your world I don’t want to enter without a special V.I.P pass.” Rob spoke
as I was getting up slowly but surely, not helping myself I shot back at him “Hey,
you know I’m not that bad, maybe I was doing something of importance, that
maybe will save your life in the end, did you ever think about that now? If you
please, step out of my room I need to change” I said. Since he wasn’t the type to
catch on to fast, I had to blurt that last thing out, or else he would’ve stayed and
would have gotten distracted by our chatter and maybe, we would never leave
hence resulting in getting zip of the breakfast I awoke so early for. “Right” Rob
exclaimed “Hurry up okay, I’ll just go upstairs and use the washroom or something
before heading out” I chuckled; the reaction he would make after returning would
be hilarious. Until then I walked over to the corner archway, across from my bed
located to the right of the door. This arch led into a mini room for whatever you
needed to put away in storage. Though there were hangers as well which I planned
to use to organize what little clothes I brought with me. Having humans on their
planet they had to have specialty stores for serving only the needs of humans,
because incase you don’t know the human is a very needy creature and even more
so when thrusted to a totally new civilization. My bad lay on the floor, with all my
belongings, which I had barely touched at all. Grabbed my maroon colored pants
(which I was now starting to wonder why I brought them, instead of bringing my
recently purchased black jeans), and picked up a shirt to throw on, as well as all the
other necessities. Having not much selection made it a lot faster to be ready in less
then merely ten minutes I would say. Thankfully I remembered a brush, so I
wouldn’t have to go our with the crazy hair, nope not today not ever. A moment
later, just as I was ready to run Rob knocked on my door ever so loudly making a
ruckus “Kristianna, you in there, ready to roll?” When would the guy learn how to
talk right, not always in howling odd tone, sort of sounded like an animal patrolling
through the Safari in a wild o’ stance. “Yeah Mr. Knocks too loud. I’m ready, I’ll
be there in a second, and I just need to slip some footwear on.” I responded, in a
much more calm, tired tone. “I’m anxious to get fueled up” I hollered. “Then get
61
you butt up, like I said we would’ve been out by know if it was left up to me.
Kristianna, you’re luck you have someone like me who waits over your shoulder for
you to be ready or you would be finding your way solo I would imagine” Rob said
through the door, we both were forever adding onto our statements, just having too
much to say. “Okay, you’re getting it, I would so not ever be solo.” Was all I could
say back to him, he knew it was true too. I flung the door to my room open and
immediately saw Rob, who had his noise glued to the door while waiting for me to
“finally” make my grand appearance, and with a swoosh my entrance was apparent.
I looked a little to the right since I thought I had seen Heyjax rushing upstairs but
quickly I turned myself back into gear and said “Yeah Rob, lets go. Do you know
exactly where our destination is located?” Since I couldn’t trust him to actually
think everything over until the very last minute. Or maybe that’s just a false
accusation, judging him too soon which I was trying to let myself avoid doing, but
for me this seemed to be a challenging task. “Yeah sure I do, no need to worry lets
just play follow the leader” Rob said in a sly tone.
On our way over, we walked at a pretty brisk pace pretty much there was
nothing that could stop us. The walking path we were on was pretty much the same
way to the Adellien Civil Square only a slightest bit further. “Gee, if only we could
float on a mother cycle, my dream. I would get that adrenaline rush, experience
something epic, meet some new buds and actually get to some of the places I plan
on going to in somewhat of a timely manner” I sighed as we slowed down a bit to
observe the square as we passed. It was quite a different sight during the day; the
food tables were taken down, as well as the stage so I was quite certain nothing
would be happening here today. Rob looked down at his feet and seemed to be
following something upwards. A couple of large asteroids were above us. The
proximity, they seemed to be just slightly in front of us in the atmosphere. With
fire that was flaring from the outer core of these giants, we stopped for a moment
observing the show that had been noticed by Rob. These spectacular shows were
pretty quite extraordinary, you saved by not having to pay anything, free
entertainment, plus a mega advantage was you could observe from anywhere on the
planet. The asteroids both mingled but in a very short bit of time, they began to
confront each other straight up. “Geez, the asteroids are going to into each other.
What a thunderclap that would be! Rob,” I begun my next sentence but took a
moment to collect myself, looking up above me then looking down at the rocky
terra firma, he sensed my nervousness. “Just relax, we can’t stop whatever may
happen, so just let it ride.” Were Rob’s words of wisdom, with a thunder sound
above, and sparks of fire threatening my existence by falling down towards
Cyberious, I felt like burying myself into a small rock hole and getting a small rock
lid and hiding. Rob took my hand and we ran off a bit, not any significance distance
but slightly out of the was from the asteroid show, so I physiologically felt a bit
more safe. “Come here Kristianna” Rob beckoned me; we were in a corner
surrounded by a rock garden. I became feeble in this instance and did as he told me
to, walking slowly up towards him. As I got closer, wonderment took a hold of my
thoughts, what was he doing? I stopped about a foot away from him, though he
continued the rest until he got close enough to me. He brought his hands slowly
around my shoulders and embraced me. “Don’t worry, whatever happens here,
62
especially the frightening stuff will make us stronger, and we’ll be able to conquer
anything. Lets wait here to see if this asteroid business looks to be lightening up,
then I know we’ll enjoy our day just as originally planned.” I just was listening to
his words, which seemed to make me feel calmer, even if the sky is falling. My
head was resting on his shoulders; a small slight smile adorned my face, my eyes
closed, my arms raped around him, I let myself rest. A loud rippling noise, like
crackling fireworks occurred. “Kristianna, you don’t want to see this, come on?”
Rob was bouncing up in shouting very much like an insanely exited little boy, over
the hockey team of choice winning the game. “Don’t you know life is about
enjoying the journey, if you were killed in two minutes wouldn’t you want to say
you witnessed this awesome view of asteroid fire electrocution? I swear Kristianna
the fire is running through the two poor asteroids veins!” I thought for a moment
and spoke into his shoulder “Nope, not lifting my head up, too tired, too scared, too
much preventing me from witnessing this, uh well, extraordinary sight in some
peoples minds. I can still hear it perfectly fine!” was what I said being as stubborn
as my usual self. Whenever I decided I wouldn’t do something, I’m a force to
reckon with, because believe me I won’t budge from changing my mind on those
kinds of decisions. “Suite yourself, I’ll take care of you now though. So seriously,
don’t worry about the sky falling, it’s so far from here!” Only minutes later the
asteroids begun crumbling and from behind where we stood little bits of the eroding
asteroids clinked to the ground. “Look at this its raining asteroid. How fascinating,
it sounds like a mega big rain stick, I bet those are some darn sharp pieces. Sort of
reminds me of the one and only toilet. What joke that is, looked at it like it was
some sort of foreign object, but I was quite sure that was where the washroom was
said to be. Made out of rock it was, lame excuse of a toilet is all I can say, watch it
erode with an uncommon meteorite shower or something, nothing can protect that
one.” Rob finally brought up the thing toilet; I seriously just was waiting for that. If
he didn’t bring it up, for sure it would be on the list of subjects to “soon be brought
up”. Pretending to be out of my head with fright still, I smiled a little, let out a bit
of a laugh too, but being careful not to let Rob think I was okay now, I was still
scared and secretly I liked this business of being welcomed in his arms, it felt
somehow very sweet. The sound surrounding us was like a million fragments of a
glass shattering through and through. “Hun, lets get going, they said breakfast
would not be served any later then the time they decide to stop serving. I think that
time is ten 9:30 and somehow we’re about ten minutes to.” Rob panicked with a
sudden adjustment of his body, whacking me away from him. “But I’m sure this
would count as a special circumstance, I mean they wouldn’t have this kind of
phenomena every morning!” I replied, protesting from leaving his arms, I would not
move until I was certain the asteroids were gone, though it became apparent with
the dissipating strange sounds, that one would now carry on with their life and take
that as a suggestion, all was safe. Hesitatingly I began to go along with Rob that it
was safe to continue on our way; after all we were so close. “Sure” I said, “ It’s
better safe then sorry, but I could really go for an experience, instead of being
delayed for everything”. Rob begun walking and I ran to catch up, so we were
walking side by side, about five minutes from where breakfast was being served.
“Delay’s are part of the adventure, we just need to learn to marvel and enjoy them,
63
then there is no time wasted. What are you saying about delays not being an
experience? Sometimes these delays give you more, way more adventure then you
bargained for, and would get any other way” Rob pointed out, he just loved to
correct me.
We arrived at the exchange plaza with lots of hustle and bustle, though no
evidence of humans eating, or anything. All the Adelliens around were talking
about the asteroids saying things like “Wow did you see that, haven’t seen such a
crazy show like that in years” and “Boy was I glad to inside, but what a spectacular
sight to see” and “I wonder if that would have been dangerous”. This sparked an
interest for me, to learn more about the all the different environmental phenomena
we would be seeing so I would know the signs of danger and know when it was
okay just to go out in the middle of things. “Rob” I said “What?” I rubbed my
forehead as we entered the center filled with various shops and clubs it looked like.
“Do you think we’re lucky to be alive? I mean really do you hear everyone talking,
I don’t think asteroids collide so near this planet very often. I guess, well I mean
maybe they do, but I’m sure not of that size.” I was experiencing post freak out
syndrome after hearing surprise around me. Rob came over to hug me, and gave me
a little petit peck on the cheek to set things a right. I just loved those bear hugs from
that man and only hoped I would receive more, and fairly often. “Kristianna,
perhaps it may have been unwise to be out there, but I don’t think it would have
been any safer to be traveling around in that. I’m sure we’ll hear about what went
on soon.” He said unsure of himself, because we had yet to find a trustworthy
source to find our news from. I looked askance at him for a second and from the
corner of my eye I saw food. “Rob, over there, don’t think its our free breakfast
feast but close enough, we can settle for this can’t we” My response was “Sure why
not, though I was really looking for a feast like last nights, outside in the front of
this Convention center, a Patio with more then 270 dishes or something. A feast for
the eyes and the stomach!” We walked into a little café type place, called “Adellien
Gourmet Grocer” though it was far more then a grocery store, with pretty a range of
ingredients put out to make your own meal. One of the clerks walked over and gave
me a little nudge. “Oh yes, Hi there, do you have any recommendations for
breakfast food? Me and my friend were looking for the breakfast on the patio but it
wasn’t found” I said to the Adellien with the small white chef hat and a little bow
tie. Quite the cute guy, I could imagine making various Adellien personalities into
figurines and selling them. A marketing idea, that would for sure be a big hit with
children’s imaginations everywhere. Though little would they know, Adelliens are
actually a secret species in a land far away from home. “Well yeah, we have to
close precisely on time, it’s the orders we’re given and there isn’t any chance to
continue serving any longer. I don’t have any food I can sell you today, there is a
new law coming in place, well I’m pretty sure that will make it very hard for you
humans to buy straight from the common stores here in Cyberious. Chief Weasley
will inform us in just a short matter of time”. I did not look into that little Adelliens
eyes in disbelief, I knew this wasn’t a law he wanted to enforce, nor was it
something he wanted to say to first time shoppers. Rob whispered in my ear, with
disbelief, trying to be as polite as possible, knowing this wasn’t the little Chef’s
regulations. “I can’t believe it, are they really trying to go out of their way to make
64
it hard for us to survive. All we want, I mean really all we need is food.” I really
thought this was a load as well. What could behind this, and the horrid decisions to
make us suffer. I caught little Chefs attention and asked her “If we can’t buy food
here, or I guess anywhere, how do you expect all the humans your species has
brought here?” All she did was shrug and walked away to the back of the store,
through the back doors into the back storage room. “Lets just wait” I said to Rob.
“There might be some more Adelliens hiding behind scenes back, there. I’ve taken
it upon myself to investigate, so please wait for me!” Whispering quietly was
seemed to be the wisest thing to do right now. “Sure Kristianna, I’ll wait, any of
your endeavors you wish to persue I have your back, though I hope it runs vice
versa because I would love to have you on board to help me, whenever needed.” I
laughed “Yeah right, help and Rob don’t go together, you’re too perfect for
anything I can do. Now shush!” I finished and was content to listen with my fullest
attention, so I stepped on my hind toes, over to the back door and pursed my ear
upon the back stonewall. “But I’m hungry, I am a little kid, I need to be fed, no way
I can shut up 100%. Dang, Kristianna! There you go again expecting too much from
me, I’m just a guy. Its like, like you’re my mommy or something”. Now this was
serious and all he could do was blabber on, but I had to give him what he wanted.
“No Rob, you should have learned by now, you’re not just a man to me. You’re a
lot more, you light my fire, and you’re my guiding light on the darkest of nights.” I
paused for a second, listened hard, looked to Robs direction (he was leaning on the
wall a slight distance away from me) saw his eyes light up, like a child receiving
their dream gift on Christmas. I finished up what I was saying, then I could count of
concentrating fully, at least I never gave up hope for that. “Now if you care to be
silent, unless you want to actually be productive and help instead of purposely
being your usual distracting self, you goof ball! Then, then” I stumbled on my
words, there was shouting picking up in the back room, appalling cruel words being
darted at targets. I said very quickly “ Then you can help, otherwise, I don’t want to
hear a peep out of you. You want food, well so do I, my stomachs been grumbling
for millennia it seems, but investigation I’m trying to for fill right now may bring us
a step closer to eating again, to finding out why this world actually seems to be
declining, contrary to what convinced me to come here. Though, if there was one
valid reason, or two” I laughed “for coming here, it was truly to meet you, though
for the most part every single Adellien I have met seems just dandy, its just one
lingering personality which seems to be directing the show here, I want to put an
end to it. I just know Rob, I just know..” From the back room I could hear pots and
pans being handled in very peculiar ways, making clanging sounds. One voice rang
louder then the rest, very much like the authorities voice. A few whimpers, some
frightened tears, some yowls and some protesting screams, they dare not come out
from behind the scenes. It had to be Kingba back there, with Chef Adellien and
some other Adelliens had to be back there to, since I was certain I had been hearing
multiple low quiet “Yes sir” and “No Sir”, quite the quick and simple answers
which obviously implied miss treatment, and a mad leader. A few mutters from
Kingba (I was certain it was him), if it wasn’t someone who was ashamed and had
authority there wouldn’t be such a contentment to stay in places where no humans
could witness his horrible acts. “I’m actually glad, Chief Weasley is dead now. I
65
can run this place the way I want. This empire will actually grow and stand to make
a little more profit. Chief Weasley was far to kind bleck, who needs that, too much
forgiveness. Now its all up to me, nothing is in my way, I will thrust anything and
anyone who gets in my way into the dump, and I will use the ultimate punishment
when needed, that is throwing the worthless pieces of dirt off this planet to
disappear into the atmosphere!” A loud prominent voice roared, it was of cold
evilness to the bone. It was hard hearing it, while listening to the weak ones, being
inferorated by him. Though it was true they were much smaller then the giant
Kingba, well at least their voices were, they were not weak I believed, but stuck in
that kind of situation, its easy to get your head re arranged. In reality if only they
knew at this point in time, what strength was built up inside them, those few
Adelliens could conquer all the apposing forces. What, you measly little dip sticks,
you don’t think I care about you?” I wondered what the scared faces were showing
right now. “Yes Sir, I mean no sir, whatever!” Was the response Kingba received.
“You three fail! No more working in the culinary field, I will teach my army to live
without food, you see we’ll save some money. You three will be the first to
experience what it feels like to be banished away in the universe. With your luck
maybe you can orbit around a few planets before getting sucked up in the black
hole.” Rob tip toed his was to me “ I can’t stand being here, I’m seriously going to
be sick, please lets go.” I was paranoid about being heard, so I didn’t reply until I
heard a few back doors shutting which hopefully lead from the back rooms
somewhere else, outside of the complex completely. If I were really on the ball, I
would have protective gear with me and confront Kingba once and for all, murder
him and take back those innocent death raged Adelliens. I only wondered how far
Chief Weasley could have gotten, without a horrible influence behind. Now he was
gone, and not a word of how or why. Truthfully, he was a good guy, and maybe
Cyberious was a great flourishing planet, but in the end it all gets switched around.
You know whom by? By those whose hands control the planet. A fork was now
placed in the road, leading a civilization down the path of despair. My duty, as was
told by Chief Weasley was to assist Cyberious, but more specifically it was to get
people tuned into what was going on here, who was now controlling, and maybe
letting some of the Adelliens become more informed. I waked over to Rob who was
dying in misery, I hated being out in natural disasters, and he hated hearing first
hand the miss treatment of any living thing. “Hun” I beckoned Rob, “Lets go find a
secret cave, and call it ours, we’ll be like old caveman!” I said excitedly trying to
make light that nothing too extreme was actually going on. In his eyes much
distress lingered, he looked up meeting my eyes for a moment then drooped down
like a wilting flower. “Hey, Come on” I smiled placing my arms on his shoulder,
trying to be the comforting one now. “You know the saying, it always gets worse
before it gets better, well who knows this might be a crazy quick fluke. Maybe I’ll
be the savior a resolve this whole thing” His face blank, his mouth still silent, I
continued, “Come on, find joy amidst struggle, you wanted to leave, well we’ll
leave and hide out for a bit.”
“So what do you want to do, stay here for the rest of your life doing
absolutely nothing, or do you want to make it worthwhile?” I asked Rob in a soft
tone. Frankly, I really didn’t know what do and anything that would lift his butt up
66
so something a little more productive here could get done. A few minutes a fussing
and farting around, running around in circles getting nowhere when Rob slouched
up looked over at me and said “Okay Kristianna, I see I’m holding you back for too
long, when all you have been wanting to do is move foreword. I said I would go on
your side but obviously you are stronger then me. Lets go outside, get out from this
place and do something precarious!” I thought okay now, there’s the man coming
back. “Well since I finally got you to talk I’m not going to bog us down any longer
here, we need to head out of here, over to somewhere, we can run around aimlessly,
I don’t care, at least we would for fill more outdoors then indoors. We made our
way back to the entrance we had come in from, noticing on the walk there, the
complex was surprisingly silent. I had no sense of time, so I couldn’t tell how long
we’d been there, but it was quite strange frankly, when we arrived it seemed to be
bustling the place of the town, right now, literally the place was empty, you could
easily hear a penny drop. Upon getting to the doors we had come in, we realized
they were locked shut, I guess this was Kingba’s orders. I figured he probably had
heard us, and couldn’t care less if we were stuck inside or not. “Hey Rob,” I said
“Say, you don’t remember an announcement telling everyone to evacuate while you
were in your little snit. I think it could have been possible, my brain was totally
distracted”. A thoughtful face arose “Mhm, yes I do believe so. Hence, saying that I
don’t believe I paid too much attention to the specific words being said or not. It’s
likely, mhm, quite possibly” Oh phooey sticks on banana bread, just coincidently I
have, just me, has had to be in the middle of all these peculiar events. Too much
strategy used at once isn’t such a good thing, brain straining is what I say, though
added on Rob and I were feeling rather lightheaded and a bit queasy having not
eaten anything yet today, and distractions were all that could keep me, at least from
thinking about possibly never being able to taste another delightful dish again. An
extreme horror story, that was really unacceptable in my mind. “Lets ram this baby
off, show the rock door what we’re made of!” Rob looked in agreement; we were
going to take it down together, not evening worrying about being charged for
destruction of a public property. Immediately the doors looked indestructible, their
look was of stone line pretty much every other structure in Cyberious. Though after
a few rams, of full body slams with my effort and Rob’s we made a dent big enough
to just slip through. “Darn it, why do they have to make everything out of rock here.
I mean how can it actually matter? Okay, maybe it is unique but some variation
would be nice” Rob muttered. There must have been some plexi glass mixed in with
the rock since it seemed far too easy to get through the door. We’d need a major
hardcore axe with a mind of its own to break through rock.
We were set on a path that led us away from what we had known.
Wandering off the path often leads you to something far greater then ever expected.
In our case we just wanted to discover a trickle of paradise, from this land going
downhill. One thing I needed to understand was that Paradise can’t be tampered
with it will always be inviting, no matter how much it gets played around with.
“Hey Rob, do you still want to hide out in a cave, just chill out?” I brought up the
suggestion I had made before, though it must have easily slipped his mind. “You
know, I really like the idea. I mean really, really and I’m not pretending, but you
have a more important mission right now, so I say we should track down where
67
Kingba went. Lets be noble like the Adelliens, this is what Chief Weasley would
have wanted. You know the saying this to shall pass?” Rob asked me. I did recall
hearing it somewhere “Yes” I replied. “Well, once this devil mastermind is
conquered, we will have our whole lives to frolic, and find little hiding places. If I
were to just hide away now, seriously I would feel too weak, and I wouldn’t be able
to live up to it. Kristianna, facing your fears, I’m not so good at that, so instead of
ignoring them I should head straight through the middle of them. But really, I am
ever lucky man to have you taking the lead.” Oh man, I love that guy. Defiantly a
hard thinker, he clearly wasn’t able to live with his conscience knowing he had
gone to hide in cave instead of trekking on, what a man he was. If they all came
packaged like him, surely I just hit the jackpot!
We soon wandered further and further away from the paths we had walked
on already, and approached the unknown. “Hey buddy!” I exclaimed to Rob who
was peering off the path, something must have caught his eye. “Yeah?” He
answered back in a voice of wonderment. “Just what are you doing, I don’t think
wandering over there will lead us to any civilization. Remember what we’re doing
now is seeking out places that maybe, we haven’t been told about. We’re a couple
of fella’s on a mission ya hear?” Then suddenly, as sudden as it happened with my
mom, Rob toppled over. He had made it to a large boy sized rock in the shade
before he tumbled just like a ragged doll. I spoke to Rob, trying to get him up;
really I couldn’t believe this could be happening to such a strong guy. Since we
were in paradise I really hoped there wasn’t the possibility of illness or light-
headedness. But on top of that, we were located out in the middle of who knows
where; there was literally no told way for me to communicate the emergency center.
While sitting next to him a variety of thoughts flew to my mind, I could find
something that looked like vegetation and get him to eat it, but no he needs water. I
could get the water first, get him to eat after, no. Maybe, I can wait and see if an
ambulance comes, maybe these smart Adelliens have some sort of radio active chip
in their mind that can detect where there were people/Adelliens needing to be
picked up by medical care. Nah can’t count on that either. So I left him, really it
was the hardest thing to do, leaving him unattended not knowing how the weather
conditions could effect him. One bright glare of sun and he could have a heat stroke
along with him being already passed out.
A few weeks later, nobody actually knows the truth about Chief Weasley’s
death. Its an awfully hard thing getting them to believe, they weren’t there to
witness the cackles of Kingba harassing the world of Cyberious, for they probably
had no idea who Kingba was. Everyone seemed to be settled, and life seemed to be
fine and dandy. Well that is for everyone who was left outside of the window, on
the other side well, I’m still trying to figure out a strategy into finding out the whole
story, and at least protecting the humans. Everyone selected a job they would serve
in for the next few months; in return we got our amneties, and had free admission to
the festivals. A new by law made it so that humans could not exchange money with
the Adelliens so whatever “money” we made was used for absolute essentials in,
I’m sure Kingba’s mind. On the fateful day, Rob gave us a real scare, though with a
little trickle of paradise raining down, somehow after about ten minutes of waiting,
one of those motorcycle gizmos came along. It was 4 times larger then the normal
68
vehicles that are more commonly seen. Little did I know, that had we gone further
for about thirty more minutes, we would hit a gloomy, disgusting run down city. All
the corporations, who had a lack of funding, were located here just trying to
survive. Though, if I searched thoroughly (which I plan to do) any day now I have a
feeling some heavy minded big guys hide out here. If Kingba was ever discovered,
if there were every enough opposition against him, we could sure run the guy down.
While Rob was in the hospital (which I wasn’t aloud to go inside) I took a small nap
on a bench located just outside the front, once in a while opening my eyes a slight
bit to take notice of the kinds of Adelliens around, yep mostly the impoverished
workers of the companies, a few outstandingly rich Adelliens with spies around. It
took about half an hour, when I saw Rob coming out; the doctor said, “He had us
scared. I’m telling you this was the work of the changing policies, well I really
shouldn’t tell you this but we have a new leader. It is a confidential change, but he’s
screwing around with everything, see too much power in the wrong hands ruins the
fun for everyone else. Now we really aren’t supposed to do this, but one of the main
factors resulting in Rob’s blackout was from his lack of food. I will personally defy
the law and make sure some food is delivered secretly to your residence, for
everyone though. It is vital for every living thing to eat, without and I don’t think
banning people from buying food here was such a great idea but what is done is
done. But we will go out of our way for you. Just please, remember, I’m begging
you, we were truly a perfect society, flourishing, fair and noble. Most Adelliens are
working their butts off to stay that way, but you know one ruins it for all. The
direction we are headed, was mostly decided by very few, but don’t look down at
us, look down at the head. Have a great day!” The doctor spoke and at the whisk of
the wind he was headed back inside. Rob stood staring that whole time, still cloudy
minded, not totally back down to Cyberious yet. “Thank you Doctor” He managed
to blurt out, as he passed. “Come on Rob, this is no place to stay right now. Let’s go
back to our residence and let you rest. I’m feeling rather faint as well, I could go for
a whole world of food!” We both laughed as we headed back down the long path
taking us back to our residence, though we took it very slow, stopping every so
once in a while.
I had become friendly with everyone here. Though I felt the most
comfortable with Rob, but we really tried to be like one big family in a big pre
historic house. It wasn’t a party but there were defiantly fun moments, getting a
laugh out of each other, playing some pretty pathetic games, doing some practical
pranks. We were all comfortable enough with each other to do those things, and
expect certain behaviors from certain people. Our schedule was work 3 days a week
and the other days we would be educated in Cyberious history, sports, literature,
infrastructure, climate, natural disasters and many other courses which was all very
fascinating. Some days I would just have to carry on like there was no bad side. A
big part of getting the others to believe was because they had no visual proof, what
you can’t see you can’t believe. I went through stages where I could volunteer just
fine, carry on with my life not minding Kingba. It was actually surprisingly easy to
do it you avoided certain spots in Cyberious. Then other days, they were a different
story. Some mornings I would wake up from dreaming Kingba had banished all the
Adelliens, or he had murdered Rob, or the world of Cyberious would be blown up.

More times then not the bad vibes invaded my mind, pulling from all directions like
I was stuck in a miniscule jail cell unable to move.
Not enough water to count worthwhile is here on the planet Cyberious. But
maybe I should count my blessings, look at my situation with the glass half full.
Enough trickles of water I drink, so I don’t worry about dying, I’m too alive to
think about that just yet. The Adelliens really are the most bizarre creatures; if you
meet them you get their genuinely awesome spirit rubbed onto you. I’m immersed
in a sea, surrounded by the Adelliens and not once have they tried to trample over
me stealing my personality, and yet they still allow me to steal bits and pieces of
there’s. Though I can say they allow me to “add” dimensions to my ever changing,
differently shaped personality. I did have a different conception of paradise before
coming here, though now I get it, I think. When you are called somewhere that is
already deemed to be perfect something has to majorly screw up. There is not a
time I will not believe that now. With perfection you can easily expect to do
anything you want for the rest of your life, but that’s not the case either. Maybe, we
have to change our view of perfection, I’ve come to think it is just a little bit
distorted. Though there is a possibility if we only find a way to keep up our efforts,
then perhaps it is a possibility to achieve one colossal planet of Paradise. Our only
problem is we can’t have any visualizations of our “ideal” paradise, because that is
a paradise for one but not for all. When paradise comes, it will be something
everyone on the planet can enjoy, so I think it will be impossible to pre visualize
what it will look like. Or maybe, a current thought is, Paradise comes in trickles.
Amidst the raging war behind us, that few want to believe is happening, there are
little trickles of paradise. Little reminders, of what a component of paradise will feel
like. Like the, complete excitement of coming to a new planet, and maybe meeting
someone who totally changed your life, who you defiantly would not of crossed
paths but for the exception of going out of your way to experience this new life a
little creature called an Adellien pulled you into.
But having said that, remembering there still is good, the planet of
Cyberious Is in turmoil a war will break out which will set the humans terrified with
panic. I saw perhaps a little sneak peak at the beginning but it may be too late if
everyone ignores the evil force against this whole territory. Though we can survive
now without interfering with Kinga, we will need the forces of everyone the
Adelliens and the humans to fight against the evil personalities taking over
Cyberious. Far too many crimes are being slipped under the door, with very little
awareness from us. Never a dull moment on our planet beneath little Pluto as the
action is heated, its not quite ready to dye down. Turmoil will continue as long as
our eyes stay blind to the enemy, letting him pace forward evermore.
