Semester:

5th

Department:

Mechanical

Submitted to:
Dr. Rizwan M. Gul
Engineer Abdussalam
NWFP University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, Pakistan

OBJECTIVE:
To know about the system, processes and operations performed in the industry also to know the products
made. To get practical know-how of the deformation processes, and to be more familiar with the local
manufacturing industry of the region.
SUMMARY:
The personal individual visit is focused, for the purpose to enhance the knowledge and experience of
practical manufacturing processes performed in the industry. The purpose of visit is to check and verify
the basic inter-relationship between theoretical and practical going on processes in the industry. Products
like steel bars, rods, wires which are used for construction purposes commonly, these are made from steel
and cast iron.
Aluminum doors, windows, and frames etc. made from Aluminium.
All the above processes are made by means of warm and hot working processes.

Industry visited:
SANA ALUMINUM (Pvt) Ltd.
Industry location:
Industrial Estate Jamrud Road, Peshawar,
Business Type:
Manufacturer, Trading Company, Distributor/Wholesaler
Product/Service:
Steel and iron bars and works *( ARY)
Aluminum doors, windows, frames and other works *(SANA)
.

Manufacturing process:
Product produced:

Architectural aluminum section and their assemblies to international specification and standards
are manufactured here. These include commonly used sections and their fabrication into doors,
windows, ventilators, fixed framed windows, fly screens, balcony railings, shop fronts, paneling,
ladders, grills, diffuses, balustrades, louvers, facades, profiles, windows for the vehicles industry,
and other products of high quality, meeting general and specific customers requirements.

Mechanical properties:
Mechanical properties of the products produced by SANA industry are as follows
Tensile strength= 240 Mpa
0.2 % proof stress = 215 Mpa
Elongation = 12% in 50 mm
Brinell hardness number = 75-80

Production capacity: (Products are made Orderly)

Processing methods & Operations:

Heating and Melting:

Heating and melting billets ranging from 100 mm to 200 mm of raw material in furnace.
Temperature range of furnace (electric furnace) for melting the raw Aluminum is 800C-1000C

Shaping and extrusion process:

Billet of Aluminum is placed in furnace for worm working die casting process, extruded through
die at temperature 226C.

Recycling of waist/scrap:
Waist is also produced which is recycled latterly and pass through the same procedure.

Strengthening process:
Initial product produced in the above steps are softer and having low strength in order to
increase the strength a thin layer of magnesium sulfate is coated on the upper surface of the
profiles and thus the strength is increased by this method.
o coating for corrosion resistance and oxidation safety,
o Dipping in water and in caustic soda in heated form to remove dust
Cutting machine process:
Shaped aluminum bars are then cut to desire length usually 18 feet.

Machining:
Surface treatment done by Buff machine for fine surface finish

Coloring process:
Commonly used colors are;
Champagne color

Silver color
Dull color
Custom color by powder coating processes of Standard Sulfate
Drilling process:

In drilling shop holes for fastening purposes are produced through drilling machine.

Assembly process:
Joining of parts are takes place in fastening shop such as doors and windows frames.
