Wavelog documentation (v 1.

Introduction
What is Wavelog?
Wavelog is a blogging client application developed for S60* phones. It allows posting of the
content as text, image, audio or video, to a Web log (blog) directly from the mobile phone
using any type of available network (mobile phone or Wi-Fi network). The application
allows saving the work for later posting in the case there is no available network or to allow
selection of a network with larger up-link bandwidth (faster posting) or lower cost (for
example a free Wi-Fi HotSpot compared to a mobile phone network). For cost details
please refer to the network operator.

What are the requirements?
Wavelog has been developed and tested on Nokia N95 mobile phones. The application
uses XML-RPC protocol for posting to blog publishing systems. Posting from this first
release of Wavelog is tested to the WordPress** (v 2.3.1 or higher) and Drupal*** (v 5.6 or
higher) publishing systems. To protect integrity and confidentiality of posting we strongly
recommend using the SSL transport layer protection by installing and using the
appropriate Web site certificates on the Web publishing platform. For details on installing
and using SSL refer to the Web publishing platform support.

What makes Wavelog different from other mobile blogging clients?
Wavelog does not restrict users to a specific blog hosting provider, social network or an
intermediate content aggregation. It permits a complete freedom for choosing blog hosting
provider or even installing own blog publishing system on the Internet, extranet, intranet, or
a local area network. It is designed for performance, scalability and reliability, so it is coded
in C++ programming language as a native Symbian OS**** application. Wavelog does not
use any form of usage tracking for targeted advertisement or direct marketing purposes.

Why is it not free?
In order to allow users freedom of choice where and how to publish their content and fullfill
strict requirements for developing mobile phone applications users are requested to
purchase the licence if they want to use all features of Wavelog. The licence fee covers the
cost of developing secure and reliable applications for mobile phones and ensures the
evolution of Wavelog.

Using Wavelog
Installing the application
Installation could be performed either from your PC, using Application Installer from Nokia
PC Suite, or directly on your mobile phone by downloading wavelog.sis file from

Same rules apply for Drupal related settings.

Important: Do not forget https in the Internet address if the blog supports SSL transport
layer security!
In the Username and Password fields enter the credentials of the user account that has
sufficient rights to post to the blog. For user account details, please refer to the
documentation of the blog publishing platform.
Once all required information is entered select OK. Now it's time to start blogging.

Web server side settings
Drupal: Make sure that you have enabled Blog API in your Drupal administrator (Select
Administer>Site building>Modules>Blog API) and Full HTML for Input formats (Select
Administer>Site configuration>Input formats>Full HTML)

WordPress: xml-rpc and Blog API are enabled by default. Make sure that your user
account has sufficient access rights to the directory where content is uploaded.

Creating a new post
When launched the application opens a dialogue box where user may enter a Title for the
new post. A title may be assigned later by selecting Options>File>New. Every post is
organized as a table where each cell may contain different content type (text, images,
audio files or videos).

Content type may be chosen by selecting Options>Insert Text, Image, Video or Audio. You
may choose horizontal or vertical layout of the post by Inserting the content to the Right or
Down. Selecting Options>Insert Text would open a standard text editor of your mobile
phone. Please refer to the phone manual for instructions on how to use the text editor.
Select OK when you finish editing text and the application will bring you back to the post
viewer. Selecting Insert Image, Insert Audio or Insert Video would open the Select File
dialogue that allows either scrolling through the list of images, audio files or videos stored
in the memory of your phone or on the micro SD card. You may also search by file name.

For acceptable file size and format that may be posted please refer to the documentation
of the blog publishing platform. When finished, select Post from the Options or select
File/Save for later posting.

Saving work for later posting
Select Options>File>Save. The Application displays “Select Memory Type” dialogue box
and indicates available space to offer selection of the phone memory or a memory card (if
available) as a storage for the file. After memory type selection, the application displays
the File Browser to select a destination directory for the file.

When a directory is selected, the application displays “File name” dialogue to either accept
a title of the post as a file name, or choose a different name. Files are saved with .mbg
extension.

Using previously saved post
Select Options>File>Load. The Application displays “Select Memory Type” dialogue box to
offer selection of the phone memory or a memory card (if available). After memory type
selection, the application displays the File Browser to select the location of your previously
saved post. After selection of the previously saved post (files with .mbg extension), the
application returns to the post viewer. The work could be further edited or directly posted.

Editing a post
In the post viewer, user may navigate through the post using direction keys of the mobile
phone. As previously stated, every post is organized as a table where each cell may
contain different content type (text, images, audio files or videos). Selecting different
content type would open related dialogue box for either editing text or selecting a different
image, audio or video files. It is also possible to insert new content by selecting Insert
from the Options. When finished editing, select Options>Post or select Options>File>Save
for later posting.

Posting
Select Options>Post. The application displays “Select access point” dialogue box to offer
the selection of the most appropriate network(for cost and speed) from the list of available
networks.

It is possible to select a different network for different content types within the same post.
Please refer to the phone manual for details on access points and related settings.
Message “Post successful” indicates that the posting process is completed without errors.
Purchasing the license
The free trial of Wavelog restricted to post text only is available from www.telewaving.com.
To use the application without restrictions users may purchase the license from
www.telewaving.com/shop. Credit card and PayPal payments are accepted.
Please take a note of the Request code as it needs to be supplied during the purchase
process. To find the Request code start Wavelog and select Options>License. The
Request code unique to your mobile phone will be displayed.
Please make sure to enter the correct Request code and the valid e-mail address in the
purchase request form at our on-line shop. This code is used to generate the unique
Authorization code for your Wavelog installation.
Once your payment is accepted you will receive an e-mail with the Authorization code that
looks something like this 62f3-802e-3cb1-4db5. Start Wavelog, select Options>License
and enter the Authorization code exactly as it is in the e-mail message (enter dashes as
well).
The license is valid for one mobile phone. In the case of changing the mobile phone for
any reason, a new license has to be purchased. Changing the SIM card does not affect
the Wavelog license.
Please keep safe the authorization code as you will need to enter it again in the case of
reinstalling the application on the same mobile phone.
