Alternate Method(s) to Assist Students -Begin reading the second half of “The Tell-Tale Heart” in class. Encourage students to ask questions if they are unsure of words or meaning. -Have the students take the online quiz on “Poe’s Life” but it will be graded with 7 questions right being an A. - Make sure to give these students extra attention and to go over the vocabulary with them before they have to create sentences for homework that night.

Alternate Method(s) to Challenge Students -Have advanced students read “The Purloined Letter” in class. -Have students take the “Poe’s Life” online quiz and they shouldn’t miss any, hopefully, and that will be an A grade.

-Advanced students need to create 10 compoundcomplex sentences which use the vocabulary word along with a second word from “The Raven” or “The Purloined Letter” that is not one of our vocabulary words in the same sentence. -Have advanced students answer the 8 questions on the hand-out and then provide a well-constructed paragraph on some of the sensory imagery in “The Fall of the House of Usher” -5 paragraph essay response to “The Purloined Letter” or “The Raven.” -HW: Write 10 compoundcomplex sentences using 2 vocabulary words, the second word from “The Raven” or “The Purloined Letter.” Read “The Pit and the Pendulum” and be ready to discuss next class.
