The 2010 FNH-Leupold Long Range Precision Competition to be held at Ft. Meade, MD, June 7th- June 11th.
By: Sal Palma
Up to thirty (30) two-man counter sniper/sniper teams will compete against each other in a week of grueling events. In its 16th iteration, this precision rifle match is by invitation only and pits military and law enforcement teams from Canada and the United States in a series of sniper / counter sniper exercises. This year’s event is sponsored by FNH USA and Leupold Stevens, and co-hosted by members of the Baltimore Washington Metropolitan Area Law Enforcement agencies at the Local, State and Federal level. Although teams do compete for top honors and prizes, the thrust for this competition remains five days of marksmanship training for the sniper and counter sniper teams in attendance. During the event members are encouraged to exchange ideas and information; gaining from each other’s experiences. In order to be eligible, both team members must occupy positions or be assigned as counter snipers/snipers, sniper/counter sniper team leaders or instructors of counter sniper or sniper marksmanship. Team members should be volunteers and have operated together as a counter sniper/sniper team in the past. Participants should be in excellent health and physically fit. There will be no exceptions made or cancellations accepted due to inclement weather conditions. The match must go on and teams must be willing to accept whatever Mother Nature has in store. The course of fire will include a Poker Run Shoot, Observation Exercise, Moving Target, Range Estimation and Observation, Stationary Fire, Cold Bore at 200 and 500 yds., Obstacle Course and Movement, and Unknown Distances. Prizes will be awarded to all participants according to the following schedule: FIRST PLACE – Two FN SPR A-3G Rifles with Leupold Optics SECOND PLACE – Two FN SPR A-1 Rifles with Leupold Optics. THIRD PLACE- Two FN TSR XP Rifles with Leupold Optics. FOURTH - THIRTIETH PLACE – Misc. prizes provided by vendors in attendance at the competition.
