Success is related to a positive evaluation of the results of the career. Career Success has been
defined in terms of the career satisfaction and materials rewards as salary and promotions
accumulated by an individual over ones work experiences (Seibert 2001). The labour market
is changing and together the aspects that characterise career success (Bridgstock 2009). Even
with the changes in the labour market, some skills and qualities remain vital to build a
successful career. However, the qualities creativity and extraversion, and the skill of career
management are the most effective factors that maximize in a long term career success.
Firstly, Creativity is an important quality and it is a differential factor in the job market that
affects positively career success. In the job market abilities related to solving problems and
innovation are essential to survive in the actual scenario of the market. Actually, the market is
less dependent of workers that only follow procedures and use the same approach to solve
new problems, and more dependent of individuals that create new process and
methodologies. According to Morgan (2011) creative individuals are more likely to propose
new strategies or methodologies to simplify process. In addition, creative individuals
establish new strategies to solve problems and also innovate producing new products and
services (Rego 2011). Consequently, creative individuals can to succeed in a long term
because they are susceptible to adapt at the complex scenario of the market given that they
innovate solutions to the new problems. Therefore, creativity is a quality that differentiates
workers and have a positive impact in career success.
Secondly, extraversion is a quality that impacts positively the career success in long term.
Extraversion is a domain of personality and it is associate with sociability, friendliness and
confidence (Seibert 2001). Individuals who has this domain of personality are more likely to
build networks without great effort because for them is natural to build a relationship with

others. Bozionelos (2008) points out that individuals with strong interpersonal relationship
build networks effortlessly and it has impact in the career development, and in social and
emotional areas thus promoting intrinsic and extrinsic success outcomes that compose a
successful career. Seibert (2001) identifies that extraverts are related with extrinsic outcomes
such as promotions and a better salary and they are more likely to have a positive reaction to
a range of situations. Consequently, being extraverted can promotes outcomes such as career
satisfaction and also is related with rewards as promotions. Therefore, extraversion is a great
quality that has a favourable impact in career success.
Finally, Career management is a skill that help career development and it promotes career
success. In order to develop a successful career is necessary to establish effectives strategies
to achieve goals. According to Bridgstock (2009), career management help to establish
realistic strategies for decisions related with career and to avoid the frustration of
expectations not realized. Therefore, individuals who has this ability can plan and analyse
career and predict tendency in the labour market and also they can relate this analyse with
their qualities and ambitions avoiding future frustration. Strauuss (2012) discuss that to have
a proactive career behaviour help many areas such as: building networks, seeking career
advice and also making influence in extrinsic aspects of career success such as promotions
and rewards. In addition, there is evidence that career management improves the productivity
and to work efficiently, resulting in a positive impact in career satisfaction (Seibert 2001).
Therefore, career management is essential start to build a successful career.
To conclude creativity, extraversion and career management have an impact in maximize in a
long term career success. These qualities and skill can provide career satisfaction and
extrinsic career outcomes such as promotions and impact in the salary. It represents positive
impact in career success. However, in comparison, career management should be the most

effective one. Extraversion is a domain of a personality and it for many individuals can be
tough to stimulate and improve. Although, creativity should be easy to be stimulate, career
management has better effective impact in career success. Career management should be an
effective strategy to develop to get a successful career because it only depends of an
intentional management of work and learning, by reflecting and evaluating in order to make
progress.
